Chapter 40 Selling Ice
"Godbase, how could you do business like this?"
"Customers are like Buddhas; we must respect them, you know?"
"If no one buys, we won't make any money, and if we don't make any money, our brother will beat us up again..."
Fang Yi'ai, who witnessed this scene, couldn't stand it anymore and immediately launched into a tirade.
"None of your business?"
Choi Shin-ki's eyes widened.
"I'm telling you, if you continue with this attitude, I'll..."
Just as Fang Yi'ai was about to tell his elder brother, a clear voice rang in his ears.
"Hey, this orange juice is 200 coins, right? Give me some."
A young lady from a prominent family stepped forward with her maid.
The maid took out 200 coins and handed them to Fang Yi'ai.
Fang Yi'ai subconsciously took it, then looked at Cui Shenji: "This is how we do business, understand? The customer is Buddha!"
After finishing, he waved his hand and said, "Go and scoop some out of the jar yourself."
However, the young ladies and women made no move.
"Um... what should I use to pack it?"
The young lady's voice was pleasant and relaxed.
"Nonsense, of course we'll use a bowl or a bottle," Fang Yi'ai said impatiently.
"Um... just one more question, where can I find bowls or bottles?" the young lady from a respectable family asked again.
Damn it, is this never going to end?
Turning his head, Fang Yi'ai glared fiercely at the woman: "Of course you should bring it yourself. Do you expect me to prepare porcelain for you just because I sell orange juice?"
The young lady, startled, took a step back.
The young lady was humiliated, and the maid could not tolerate it. She immediately stepped forward and retorted, "How can you do business like this? 200 coins for orange juice and you don't even provide a container? How much does a container cost?"
"How I do business is none of your business! Buy it or not? If not, get lost!"
Fang Yi'ai's eyes widened like saucers, her expression saying, "If it weren't for the fact that you two are women, I would have beaten you up."
"You...we're not buying it anymore, give us our money back!" The maid stamped her foot.
"I'll pay it back."
Fang Yi'ai shoved 200 coins into the other person's arms and then shooed him away, saying, "If you're not going to buy, don't block our business!"
"snort."
The master and servant turned and left.
Well, I've driven away another business opportunity.
The people watched with great interest.
They didn't leave either, wanting to see if these children of officials could close a deal.
"Yiai, isn't it said that customers are Buddha? How can you insult Buddha like that?" Choi Shin-ki immediately began to mock.
"None of your business."
"What did you just say?"
"Keep pushing me and I'll beat you up!"
"You're here? I have plenty of brothers with me today!"
Seeing that the two were starting to argue again, the other friends quickly tried to break them up.
"Gentlemen, I'd like to buy two pounds of ice."
Suddenly, a plainly dressed young man with shifty eyes walked up.
He bowed and nodded obsequiously to the group.
"Do you have money?" Choi Shin-ki looked down at him.
"I don't have any money, I just bought it for that Mr. Hu from earlier," the young man replied.
"Which Mr. Hu?"
The young man pointed into the distance and pointed to the elegant man who had been chased away by Choi Shin-ki earlier.
Seeing them looking at him, the noble man snorted coldly and turned away.
"Didn't he say he wouldn't buy it?" Choi Shin-ki asked disdainfully.
“He originally didn’t want to buy it, but the younger one persuaded him to come back.”
As he spoke, the young man rubbed his hands together: "Is what you just said about getting a free bowl of orange juice for the person who makes the referral if they buy ice cubes true?"
"Oh ho? You're quite the opportunist." Choi Shin-ki gave the young man a serious look.
"It's all thanks to the young masters' care." The young man bowed and nodded repeatedly.
"Alright."
Choi Shin-ki waved his hand and said, "Give him two pounds of ice, and give him a little extra, so that when it melts, people won't say we're shortchanging him!"
Although Choi Shin-ki has the worst temper and is very argumentative, he is actually quite honest.
Seeing that they finally had some business, the shop assistants excitedly carried ice blocks out of the store.
Then he picked up an axe and smashed it down.
As for two jin?
They seem to know how to use a scale.
He gave the eldest brother a piece directly, and it looked like it weighed no less than five pounds.
"Gentlemen, this is far too much."
The young man waved his hand repeatedly, indicating that Choi Shin-ki and the others had given too much.
If such a large block of ice melts, and we hold him accountable later, he won't be able to afford to pay for it.
"Take it if I give it to you. I said it's two pounds, so it's two pounds!" The ice-breaking buddy stared at him intently; he didn't know how to use a scale!
“This…” The young man then looked at Choi Shin-ki.
"Why are you looking at me? Are you going to buy these two pounds or not?" Choi Shin-ki said impatiently.
"Buy, buy, buy..."
The young man nodded repeatedly, then jogged off to get the money.
Upon hearing this, the nobleman didn't hesitate. Since Choi Sin-ki was willing to give him about five pounds of ice, he wouldn't be ungrateful and immediately gave the young man four strings of cash.
That's how they made their first deal.
Five pounds of ice were sold for four strings of cash.
"Young gentlemen, now that the deal is done, how about this orange juice..." The young man rubbed his hands together, a fawning smile on his face.
"Four pounds, scoop out four spoonfuls yourself." Choi Shin-ki waved his hand: "One spoonful of crushed ice, one spoonful of orange juice, if you dare scoop any more, I'll smash your head!"
"Also, be careful when scooping, don't bring any dirty stuff in!"
"Yes, yes, yes..."
The young man nodded repeatedly: "Sir, I'll go get the porcelain bowl."
The young man ran away, but when he returned, he had a new porcelain bowl in his hand.
He first scooped out a bowl, then cautiously asked, "Gentlemen, may I do with this orange juice as I please?"
"Nonsense, if it's in your bowl, it's yours," Choi Shin-ki retorted.
"good."
The young man's eyes darted around, and after filling a bowl, he ran off.
Then I came back.
Then they ran away again.
And then it came back...
"Are you ever going to stop? Can't you just serve it all at once?"
Fang Yi'ai couldn't stand it anymore; it kept buzzing around like a fly.
The young man's face flushed red, and he stammered, unable to answer.
He didn't reply, but the crowd suddenly erupted in a commotion.
One of the villagers pointed at the young man and said, "This man is dishonest; he took the chilled orange juice and tried to sell it."
What?
Everyone was shocked.
A bowl costs 200 coins. The young man sold two bowls. Doesn't that mean he earned 400 coins just by making two trips back and forth?
Oh my god, I'm going crazy!
400 coins! And there are two more bowls, so that's 800 coins in total!
How could someone earn several months' wages for an ordinary person with such ease?
"You sold it?"
Fang Yi'ai's face darkened.
Isn't this just stealing his business?
"I... I just earn a little bit of money running errands," the young man stammered in response.
Then he obediently handed over the money.
He couldn't muster even the slightest thought of resistance when faced with this group of spoiled brats.
"What's all this noise about?"
Wei Shuyu walked out of the shop, followed by a large group of pot-bellied merchants.
Wei Shuyu never expected Cui Shenji and others to sell ice.
If we sell them piece by piece, how long will it take?
Partnering with major merchants and restaurants is the best option.
The reason he hadn't shown up was because he was inside the shop discussing cooperation with the merchants.
Choi Shin-ki and the others were just selling ice because they were bored and wanted to amuse themselves.
"Big brother!"
Upon seeing this, Choi Shin-ki and the others shouted in unison.
