"Grandma, Shushu brought some delicious food..."
As soon as Wen Rou Rou entered the hospital, she saw a stranger sitting in front of the old lady's bed.
He stopped at the door.
Wen Shu followed behind, "Why isn't Rou Rou going in? Grandma... who are you?"
Wen Shu suddenly remembered that this was the couple the nanny had mentioned wanting to adopt Rou Rou last night.
Wen Shu's face immediately turned cold. "I'm sorry, I didn't agree to what happened last night. Don't come again."
The other person seemed embarrassed, their gaze lingering on the baby. "If you think the nutritional allowance is too low, we can discuss it further..."
"Please leave!" Wen Shu suddenly raised her voice.
The couple's faces immediately darkened, and they muttered something as they left the ward.
Grandma looked at Wen Shu in surprise: "Shu Shu, what's wrong? They just told me that they can register Rou Rou's household registration!"
Wen Shu took out the thermos, and while taking out the food, she said with a smile, "We were also scammed when we went to register our household registration before, and we almost became suspects of illegal and criminal activities. Have you forgotten?"
When her grandmother heard this, she was so frightened that she didn't dare to say a word.
Wen Shu: "Grandma, everything I know was taught to me by you. You are much smarter than me. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Everything comes at a price."
Why would they help register our pet's birth for no reason? What are they asking for? What do they want? What can we offer in return?
As she helped her grandmother sit up, she placed the food in front of her, saying, "There are more scammers out there now than when you were young. These days, scammers specifically target the elderly..."
Grandma was scolded by her and could only laugh and say, "Stop nagging, it's giving me a headache."
The elderly woman in the next room was amused.
After dinner, Rou Rou was watching cartoons on the other side of the hospital bed when the nanny arrived.
"Wen Shu, did you tell your grandmother about what we agreed on last night?"
Wen Shu pulled up a stool for her to sit on. "Auntie, please sit down. I'm here to formally inform you that I cannot agree to any of what you said last night."
The nanny still smiled at her and said, "Wen Shu, don't act impulsively. My son is a good catch; he can find an unmarried young woman. You've had children. It's your good fortune and fate that my son has taken a liking to you."
The couple nodded in agreement: "Yes, yes, young people these days shouldn't be too ambitious and miss out on opportunities."
"Besides, you're married, your child is settled, and our families are relatives, so you can visit often in the future. What's wrong with that?"
The three of them took turns trying to persuade each other.
Grandma sensed something was off. "Shushu, what do you mean? Where are you going to put Rou Rou? And what's with all this talk about visiting?"
Before Wen Shu could speak, the nanny interrupted, "Oh dear, I knew Wen Shu hadn't told you, it's like this..."
Wen Shu immediately interrupted, "Auntie, I respect you as my elder, please don't say such things to my grandmother!"
The nanny was immediately displeased. "Wen Shu, the reason I chose you is because of your good temper. I helped your grandmother find a new ward, and this is your attitude?"
Wen Shu stood up and told her to leave, "Auntie, you've misjudged me. I have a bad temper! This is a hospital room. Please talk outside if you have anything to say."
The nanny's son was waiting outside, hoping for a good outcome, but when he looked up, he found that everyone had been kicked out.
"Mom?" the man asked, puzzled.
The nanny said with a long face, "Wen Shu, I kindly helped your family, and you actually turned your back on me."
Wen Shu closed the ward door behind her to prevent her grandmother from hearing the conversation. "Auntie, I am very grateful to you, but that doesn't mean I want to marry your son. I don't thank people like that."
The man frowned: "Mom, what does this mean?"
The nanny said, "Wen Shu is unwilling to send the child away. She feels that we are causing her and her child to be separated."
The man stepped forward and said, "If the child isn't given away, how will he get registered? I heard that your grandmother was hospitalized to get the child registered, right? This is for your own good."
The man sized her up, his eyes lewd and suggestive. "Besides," he said, "I'm going to marry you anyway, why would I be worried about not having children in the future?"
Wen Shu took a deep breath and looked up at the man: "Sir, I never agreed to marry you from the beginning."
Upon hearing this, the man became enraged and said, "You think I want to marry a prostitute like you? I just want to try something new because you're young and pretty. You're a whore who's slept with by thousands, and you dare to look down on me?"
The nanny quickly reached out and pulled him, "Son, speak properly, don't scare Wen Shu."
"You dare to complain about me? Have you slept with too many men? Do you really think you're something special? A piece of trash like you dares to be picky..."
Wen Shu took out her phone and turned off the record button. "Sir, if you don't apologize to me right now, your job as a state-owned enterprise employee is over."
The man was stunned for a moment, then reached out to snatch Wen Shu's phone: "What the hell? You're trying to pull this on me, give it back to me!"
Using his height advantage, the man snatched Wen Shu's phone in one swift motion. "You actually dared to record this? I'll smash this piece of junk phone right now!"
"Don't you know that the recording function automatically saves to the cloud? So what if you delete it from your phone?"
The man smashed Wen Shu's phone on the ground, yelling, "If you dare go to my workplace, I'll kill you right now!"
Wen Shu sneered, "Tomorrow I'll go to your workplace and let your boss hear your foul language. I'll tell you whether you're even fit to be a state-owned enterprise employee."
The man, clearly used to swaggering around at home, habitually raised his fist and said, "I think you deserve a beating!"
Throughout the entire ordeal, the nanny stood silently by, and even deliberately made room for her son to unleash his fists.
She knew that Wen Shu's family had no men, only an old man, a young girl, and a woman. Even if she was beaten here, what could she do?
To put it bluntly, she has no choice but to get married, whether she wants to or not.
The nanny had taken a liking to Wen Shu and had no intention of letting her run away.
With no man in her family, who would respect her? Where would she go without being bullied?
It doesn't matter if Wen Shu doesn't agree now. She'll have her son come to Wen Shu's house another day. As long as everyone in the neighborhood knows that Wen Shu slept with her son and they're engaged, let's see who dares to introduce her to someone else in the future.
That's how her former daughter-in-law came to be; she wanted a divorce right after giving birth, and dragged it out for five years.
It's good that she was beaten now. It lets her know that after marriage, a man's word is law, and if she dares to contradict him, he'll beat her to death.
A disobedient woman needs to be beaten until she obeys.
The moment the man made his move, a tall, slender figure appeared against the light.
Wen Shu stood still, and before the man's fist could hit her face, she was suddenly grabbed by the collar, pulled back, and thrown to the ground.
