Chapter 139 Conflict and Mutual Brawl: Sugarcane and Brown Sugar, Live
Taking advantage of his size, Gris used brute force to attack Neil. Neil dodged some of the punches, but still inevitably took a few hits.
The size difference was a big problem, but constantly getting beaten up wasn't an option either. Neil changed tactics, dodging Gris's punches while seizing every opportunity to attack his legs.
Gris had so much fat that Neil felt like he was hitting a fleshy cushion every time he shot at him. The fat on Gris acted as a great buffer, deflecting a lot of the impact.
Danny was very anxious as he watched Neil being at a disadvantage and taking a lot of punches.
He wanted to go back to the village and tell the adults so they could come and help, but he was afraid that while he was away, Neil would be beaten to death by Gris's fists.
Danny was caught in a dilemma, struggling with what to do, his face turning red.
"ah!"
Danny gasped in surprise at the sight before him.
Neil was caught off guard and Griss punched him in the head.
The punch was quite heavy, and Neil swayed a few times before regaining his balance.
Danny clenched his fists nervously, his nails digging deep into his palms. His heart pounded, and his forehead was covered in sweat.
What if Neil gets killed?!
This thought filled Danny's mind; his reason had completely vanished.
No, no, no!
Seeing Griss punch Neil in the face again, Danny's concern for Neil overcame his fear of being hit, and he grabbed a tree branch from the ground and rushed over without thinking.
"Get out of here, let Neil go!"
Gris was distracted by Danny's voice, and Neil took the opportunity to give him a headbutt.
Gris felt a stinging sensation in his nose, followed by a throbbing pain in his arm.
"Well, you dare to launch a sneak attack!"
Danny's hard-won courage was dispelled by a single look from Griss. He stepped aside helplessly, unsure of what to do next.
This brief conflict gave Neil an opportunity.
The dizziness in his head had subsided, and Neil, holding onto one of Gris's legs, dragged him down with all his might, finally tripping him.
Gris took a hard fall, and Neil sat on top of him, swinging his fists forcefully.
Danny felt the ground shake the moment Griss fell. He just watched as Neil pinned Griss to the ground and began punching him repeatedly. The situation had completely reversed.
"You worthless brat, try hitting me again!"
Gris shielded his face from Neil's fists with his hands, cursing incessantly.
"Damn it, your parents died long ago because of you, you little brat. Your brother also damaged his brain because of raising you, and he almost went to see your short-lived parents."
You're a jinx!
Gris has a foul mouth and dares to say anything. Since he's too fat to get up and fight Neil, he keeps insulting him with words.
As Gris cursed, Danny watched as Neil's blows became increasingly violent.
Danny was timid and noticed that Neil seemed to be losing control. He didn't dare to go closer, but he was afraid that Neil would kill Gris. After much hesitation, he finally mustered up the courage to go forward and pull Neil away.
"Neil, Uncle Neil, stop fighting! We need to go home quickly. Uncle Ray is waiting for you to come home for dinner!"
Danny grabbed Neil's arm from behind and shouted at Neil at the top of his lungs.
"Stop hitting him! Stop hitting him!"
Ray...eat...
Neil vaguely heard a few words.
Lei...
Yes, it's the older brother.
Ah, my brother is still waiting for me at home. I can't let him see me like this.
Neil stopped, and was pushed to the side by Griss's arm. Danny helped Neil up.
The two stood by, looking at Gris, who was still lying on the ground.
His nose had been broken by Neil, and it was bleeding profusely. There were messy bloodstains around his nose and mouth, and his clothes were in disarray. He lay on his back on the ground, panting heavily.
Neil looked just as bad, his clothes were also messy, and there were a lot of wild grass in his hair.
"Let's go, let's go home."
Danny grabbed Neil and pulled them back without looking back, afraid that Gris would get up and give them both a hard time. Neil followed Danny's lead and left, his mood extremely low.
The two walked quietly along the road, neither of them speaking.
But Danny kept an eye on Neil's movements out of the corner of his eye, worried that he might get angry and go back to fight Gris again.
"Neil, where are you going!"
Danny nervously called out to Neil, who had strayed from the path.
"I'm a little dirty, I'm going to take a shower."
"Okay, sure."
Danny looked at Neil's dirty hands, with some bloodstains on the back of his hands. He followed closely behind Neil, watching him wash himself clean.
After tidying up, Neil didn't look so disheveled, although his clothes were still somewhat dirty.
"Danny, stay away from things like this in the future, and don't get too close."
Danny glanced at Neil, then lowered his head and fiddled with his fingers without saying a word.
He had always kept his distance, and there had been many instances of bullying in the past. It was only this time, when he discovered that Neil was being bullied, that he secretly followed him.
Aren't you scared?
Neil asked Danny.
He knew that his nephew, who was a year older than him, usually acted like a coward.
"A little."
But I'm more afraid that something might happen to you.
Danny said in a low voice, keeping the rest of his words to himself.
"Let's go home and have dinner early. Don't tell anyone what happened today, understand?"
"knew."
The two then embarked on their journey home.
Neil took Danny home, and only went home after seeing Gris's departing figure in the distance.
Lai and Lamb are processing the fresh sugarcane they brought back today.
"Brother, I'm back. I'll come down and help you in a bit."
"No need, Lamb and I will take care of it. You go back to your room and rest. Do your homework first, and then wash two radishes and an old cucumber. We'll have meat pies and soup for dinner."
"OK."
The brown sugar boiling process has reached the cleaning stage.
The iron pot sat in the yard, ready to be used at any time. This pot was much larger than the old one.
The previous one was left in Aishan and used specifically for cooking. This one is a new one that Lai bought from Timuchi.
Neil went back upstairs, took off his shirt, and checked his injuries.
There were several bruises on his arms and shoulders; no wonder his shoulders felt a little sore when he came back.
With Danny's help, he taught Gris a lesson and broke his nose. Knowing Gris's personality, he would definitely not let it go.
Gris came to him seeking revenge, which wasn't a big problem.
Before long, the first half of the semester will be over, and I will transfer to the college in the city after the harvest festival. I'm not afraid of him coming to bother me.
But if he leaves, and only Danny is left in the village, what will happen if Gris tries to stop him?
The more Neil thought about it, the more suffocated he felt.
His original intention was not to implicate anyone; he wanted to resolve these troubles on his own. But he never expected to witness Danny's courage today. It seems he'll have to make other plans to resolve this potential problem for Danny.
Ray and Lamb were busy in the yard, while Neil sat by the window quietly watching the two of them.
With a creak.
The bedroom door was kicked open, and Tata wriggled into Neil's bedroom, her tail swaying.
"Tap tap~ Tap tap~"
Neil's serious expression vanished, and he watched with delight as the little monster lightly leaped onto the headboard.
For the first time ever, Neil received this kind of "favor".
Tata is usually more attached to Lai, and spends most of her time either sleeping or sleeping.
Neil quickly buried himself in Tata's fur, but before he could hug her enough, Tata slapped him.
He wasn't annoyed and released the little monster with great restraint.
Tata was too lazy to move, so she turned over and went to sleep, which finally improved Neil's mood.
He put his shirt back on, went downstairs to pick radishes and old cucumbers, processed them, washed his hands, and then went to help Lai.
Tata lay sprawled on Neil's bed, listening to the conversation in the yard.
"Brother, I'm here to help!"
"Have you finished your homework?"
There is no homework today.
"Ah, then take the leaves off the sugarcane and put them together."
"good!"
...
Amidst the noises outside, Tata finally drifted off to sleep.
Tears, nosebleeds, dust, and bits of grass covered Gris returned home with a face full of grime.
Booz's wife was doing farm work when she saw her son's disheveled state and was heartbroken. She fetched medicine and water, running around Griss in circles.
"Damn it, who beat you up like this? Tell me who it was, and I'll take you to their parents!"
Gris was made to wash his face and hands. Fortunately, he only had bruises on his face, with no cuts.
"Don't worry about me, I'll take revenge myself!"
"What revenge? Tell your mother who it is. When your father comes back, we'll go to his house together to find him!"
Gris was beaten for robbing money, so naturally he didn't dare tell his family.
Listening to his mother's nagging, he felt increasingly uncomfortable. When had he ever suffered such injustice?
With a loud slam, the door slammed shut, and Gris returned to his room.
"Why are you so disobedient, child!"
The only response she received was the sound of the bedroom door locking.
It wasn't until just before dinner that Lai and Lamb managed to clean two-thirds of the sugarcane.
As dinnertime approached, Lai started chopping filling and making pancakes, while Lamb and Neil continued washing all the sugarcane.
There's enough time; there's no rush to finish all the work in one day.
Lamb had dinner with Ray before leaving, and they agreed that he would come over the next morning after dawn to help finish the work.
There are few people in the village in the morning, so it's best to avoid people when making brown sugar.
Having stayed in the village for so many days, the work on the hillside has been delayed quite a bit.
After confirming that Hagrid didn't need him, Ray finished making the brown sugar and went back to his work on the hill.
The weather has been good this year, and the crops in the fields are growing well. It will be harvest time soon.
The wild chestnuts, pine nuts, and persimmons in the mountains are waiting for you to pick them.
Life is so busy that you can't stop for a moment.
Lamb arrived at dawn the next day.
Lai added some dried fruit to the fermented dough and threw it into the oven, and the two of them started pressing sugarcane juice in the living room.
Lamb was strong and took the initiative to do the main physical work. The two of them ate breakfast in between and finished processing all the sugarcane in less than two hours.
When Neil came downstairs, he saw basins of light green sugarcane juice in the living room.
It was still early, but it was already a bit late for Ray. After telling Neil to eat the bread he had left for him, Ray immediately began the cooking process.
A few hours later, the cooked brown sugar syrup was laid out on the long table, using the same mold as last year.
The remaining brown sugar water was poured into a whole large pot.
"Ah, making this stuff is so exhausting."
Lamb sat undignifiedly in his chair, complaining. Neil had already gone to school.
"How is Farah's recovery going?"
While busy with his work, Lai asked.
"It's all good. Grandma Afu said she's alright now and plans to leave tomorrow. Brother, are you going to the low mountains?"
"Yes, I need to go over there and take Yilu and the others there. Then I'll go up the mountain to check if the mountain produce is ready for harvest."
"Brother, I want to go with you to pick those mountain products this year!"
"Okay, wait until I'm done with this."
"Uh-huh."
