Chapter 56: Exit Potion, Beef Fat, Castration Techniques...

Chapter 56: Exit Potion, Beef Fat, Castration Techniques...

In winter, the roads are cold and slippery, making it difficult for mule carts to travel.

Ray only took the mule with him; he didn't harness the cart.

The mule carried a basket on each side of its back, and Tata, wrapped in an animal skin, was placed in one of the baskets and taken to town.

Wearing a thick cotton coat, Lai walked for more than an hour before finally seeing the entrance. There were only a few scattered people and an oxcart carrying firewood.

He waited a while before it was his turn, paid the copper coins, and immediately went into the city.

First, I went to Black's clinic.

Pushing open the door, the bell jingled, and the warmth of the room instantly enveloped him. Jack, wearing a light shirt, was working downstairs, while the fireplace inside burned brightly.

Jack only recognized Rye when he took off his hat.

"Mr. Victor, you've arrived!"

Jack put down what he was doing and helped Ray take off his cotton coat and hang it on the wall.

“It’s a bit warm in here, you should take off your coat and hang it up. Dr. Blake is stingy, but that’s one good thing. In winter, he never lets the fireplace go out. In winter, the clinic is definitely the warmest place in town.”

Jack muttered to himself, and it was clear he was very satisfied with the clinic in this respect.

"Isn't Dr. Blake here?"

"Ray asked."

"He's been gone for a long time. Someone in town broke their arm, so he should be back soon. Please sit down and rest for a while, and have some barley tea to warm yourself up."

Jack poured Rye a cup of tea and told him to sit on the sofa and rest.

Are you here to buy medicine or to see a doctor?

"To see a doctor. An'an woke up once, but has been sleeping and hasn't eaten anything since. Neil was worried about his safety, so I brought him to see Dr. Blake."

Where is it?

Ray pulled a small ball of fur out of the animal hide. It was curled up in a ball, its body warm and cozy.

Because it doesn't eat much, it's even thinner than when Neil first found it.

"Poor little guy."

Jack patted Tata's little head.

Ray and Jack chatted casually for a long time. The bell rang again, and the two turned their gaze to the doorway, where a figure carrying a medicine box stood.

"It's Dr. Blake, he's back."

Jack stepped forward, took Blake's medicine box, and helped him hang his hat on the wall.

As soon as Blake entered the room, he saw Lai sitting on the sofa, holding a ball of fur.

"Ray, it's been a long time."

"haven't seen you for a long time."

The two greeted each other.

Blake washed his hands several times before sitting down and drinking some hot tea.

How is the patient?

Jack asked.

"Fortunately, it's not too serious. It's just that a piece of bone was raised after the fracture, but I managed to put it back in place. After taking some medicine, it will heal in a while."

Jack was already used to such simple and blunt descriptions.

Although Blake may seem unreliable, his medical skills are trustworthy. Even though his consultation fees are high, many people are eager to see him.

"How is the little one?"

Blake tried to tease Tata with his skillful hands, but unfortunately Tata was fast asleep and didn't react much, only reflexively waving his furry paws a few times.

"I woke up the day before yesterday, drank a little bit of mutton soup, ate a few pieces of radish, and then fell asleep again. But I haven't woken up since. Could there be something wrong?"

Blake used magic to examine the little guy, and the little guy's body responded well, with a faint magical response.

Wow, it's a very talented little monster.

The difference between magical beasts and ordinary animals is that magical beasts have stronger physical functions, possess a magic core within their bodies, and some magical beasts can use magic.

Their ranking is determined by the strength of their ability to use magic.

In reality, there is no difference in levels among monsters; it's just that humans created these levels to avoid conflicts with powerful monsters.

Some people even traveled all over the continent to gather information on various magical beasts. They had an extremely obsessive attitude towards magical beasts.

"It's fine, no problem. When it wakes up, feed it some raw meat and bones, or goat's milk or cow's milk."

Lei nodded.

“Lei, since this little monster might be related to the beast-hunting caravan, I have to remind you.”

"Blake, you speak."

"Hmm. The little magical beast left the nest while still a cub. Due to the lack of parental guidance, it may have some personality flaws when it grows up. It has magical talent, and its curiosity during puberty may cause some destruction."

"My personal advice is not to keep such a dangerous little creature around. It's best to send it back to its original place."

Blake took a sip of water and continued.

"However, I know these things are difficult to do, so you need to educate it well in daily life. Monsters are very intelligent; they can understand what you say. There are also rumors that high-level monsters can talk, but I don't know if it's true or not."

Blake added jokingly.

"I know that book! When I was little, the pastor at church would bring that book to class every week and tell us about all sorts of monsters. It was called... what was it called again?"

Jack was so anxious that he scratched his head and racked his brains, but he still couldn't remember it after thinking for a long time.

"I have some medicine here that can help improve the little guy's health. Would you like to take a bottle?"

Ray hesitated for a moment, but looking at the thin little guy on his lap, he still bought medicine for Tata, just like countless pet-owning families on Earth.

It wasn't because I liked it, I just couldn't stand how weak it was. After all, it was so small when it was captured and almost died...

As he thought to himself, Lai readily paid three silver coins.

"Just add a spoonful each time you feed them."

Blake took out an enormous vial and slammed it onto the table. He patted the vial, which was filled with green potion.

"It's worth it! Enough to drink for a month."

"..."

"It's definitely worth it."

Lei silently placed the potion in the basket.

Wow, it's quite heavy. Its size is comparable to a medium-sized bottle of Coke in the supermarket.

Jack covered his face. Blake had just filled all the potions in the store with all of them for Rye.

The materials used to make this aren't expensive, but the process is quite complicated. Blake has only made it once in the last two years and has stockpiled several large bottles. Mainly because there aren't many people in town who keep magical beasts, he hasn't sold many yet.

No patients came to see him, so Ray chatted with Blake for a while about various topics related to Warcraft. Ray only got up to leave when Blake started getting busy again.

After leaving the clinic, Lai headed straight for the various markets.

The winter market wasn't as deserted as I'd imagined.

With the arrival of winter, the number of people selling various game and furs at the stalls increased; the vegetables were mostly potatoes, sweet potatoes, taro, pumpkins, Chinese cabbage and other things that could be stored for a long time.

Apart from the uniform Chinese cabbage, there were no other leafy green vegetables to be seen.

"Aren't there any other vegetables?"

Lai tentatively asked the stall owner.

"Other vegetables? We'd have to go to the town center. Those are things only nobles can afford. To put it bluntly, we shouldn't even think about it. They grow them by burning charcoal all day long!"

The stall owner spoke very rudely, with a hint of self-deprecation and disdain.

Lai listened to everything the stall owner said without uttering a single word in response, displaying complete sincerity. In reality, he filtered out all the irrelevant information, letting it pass through his ears.

Angry youths exist in every era and everywhere. If their opinions differ from your own, there's no need to argue with them; doing so will only make them angrier. The same applies to dealing with online trolls.

After leaving the stall, Lai bought a few small pieces of processed cowhide. They were just scraps and not worth much; he bought them to make book covers.

Afterwards, Lai went to find Mu's butcher stall, and sure enough, he was still there.

"Lay, you've come at a really bad time. The beef is all sold out."

Mu looked embarrassed.

"It's alright, I was just late. I'll come earlier next time."

"but,"

Mu changed the subject.

"I left you some beef tallow, see if you can use it."

The shepherd's "some" was quite different from Ray's "some." The shepherd pulled a large lump of beef tallow from a cloth-covered basket. Pure tallow, without a trace of beef. It weighed approximately twenty pounds.

"If you can use them, install them all for me."

Mu had specially reserved some lard for him, and he couldn't let him down. Even if he didn't need that much, Lai would buy it all. He could just make a larger batch of hot pot broth at once; if he sealed it in small jars, it would keep for a long time.

Come early in seven days, and I'll save you a good piece.

"Okay. Why didn't Li come? I left him at the neighbor's house."

Mu rarely smiled.

"Fifty copper coins a day, plus some food expenses. I go back early, and I'll bring some leftover meat to the auntie. She takes very good care of me."

"That's good too. It would be a loss if the child got cold in the winter."

Mu nodded in agreement.

That makes sense.

"That's right!"

Mu seemed to have remembered something important.

"My family's Gulu beast has given birth to cubs. How exactly do I perform the castration procedure?"

"How many days has it been raining?"

"It's been four days. I added more hay because it was cold. If it gets any colder, we'll have to burn firewood."

"Four days."

Lei thought about it carefully for a while before giving his answer.

"Seven to fifteen days later, find a clean and sharp knife or dagger, and buy more medicinal wine. Put the tools in boiling water for a while before using them. Hang the male baby upside down, apply the medicinal wine to the egg, make a cut with the dagger, squeeze out the two balls inside, and then cut it off with a swift motion."

Lai made a downward slashing motion, and Mu immediately understood.

All those years of selling meat weren't for nothing; he knows the Gulu Beast's various structures like the back of his hand.

"Apply the medicated wine again after the procedure to prevent infection."

"Okay, okay, I'll do whatever you say."

Mu nodded repeatedly.

The little guy needs to eat raw meat and bones, so Lai bought another piece of good meat and a Gulu beast heart.

After paying, he placed the wrapped beef tallow and meat at the bottom, then lined the middle with the oil paper provided by Mu Youqing, and finally put Tata on the animal hide.

"A very cute little monster."

Mu recognized Tata's identity at a glance. As an orc, he had a very keen sense of smell and ability to distinguish.

Do you know what kind of magical beast it is?

Blake didn't give a clear answer to the question, so Ray casually asked Mu.

"I don't know either. I left the tribe too early and didn't fully learn many things. I'm very sorry I couldn't help you."

"It's okay, I just asked as a last resort."

Mu scratched Tata's head and then its chin, and Tata stretched out its four little paws comfortably.

"Li also likes having his head and chin scratched like this."

Mu smiled gently.

Lai left with his belongings and continued to investigate the markets he knew.
