Chapter 69 Guge, injured and unconscious, stays overnight in a small town
The furnishings inside the house were all normal, and there were no signs of a struggle, so it shouldn't have been a home invasion robbery or anything like that.
Lei drew a conclusion.
He rushed to the top of the stairs and saw Gug lying on the stairs.
He had a cut on his forehead, and a small pool of blood had appeared on the steps. Although the wound had scabbed over, blood would still seep out if touched.
Lei used a healing spell to stop the bleeding.
Old Gug is currently breathing and has a normal pulse, but Lai is afraid that he may have other external injuries, so he doesn't dare to move him easily.
"Guge, Guge! Wake up, wake up quickly."
Ray tried to wake the unconscious Gug, but received no response. Jenny, standing nearby, paced anxiously, circling around the two of them.
This won't do; you must see a doctor.
Although the village doctor was very skilled at treating external injuries, Lai Yi still didn't quite trust him in cases like Guge's, where he had hit his head and fallen into a coma.
After a brief moment of thought, Ray made a quick decision.
“Jenny, I’m going to take your master to town to see a doctor. You’ll come with me to my house later.”
Lai carefully carried Gug on his back, and with some effort, carried him home. Jenny obediently followed behind Lai and her master, without making a sound.
"Neil, open the door."
Hearing the noise, Neil put down his charcoal pencil, slipped on his shoes, and quickly opened the door. He was startled to see Lai carrying Gug on his back, and Jenny following behind.
"Brother! What happened to Grandpa Guge?"
"Get out of the way."
Neil gave up his spot, and Ray carried Gug into the living room.
What happened?
Lamb asked, equally surprised.
He arrived rather late today. After dinner, he thought he would just sit here for a while before heading back, but he didn't expect to run into this.
He helped Lai lower Gug off his back, and the two of them helped Gug onto the recliner.
“I went to deliver food to Guge and happened to find him lying unconscious with a head injury, so I brought him back.”
"Brother, here!"
Ray took the bandage from Neil and bandaged Gug's injured forehead.
"I'm going to take him to town to find Blake later. Gug is old and has been unconscious for a while. I'm worried that he might have other problems."
"Brother, I'll go with you!"
Lamb quickly made a statement.
"no."
Lei refused.
It was already late afternoon, and it would be dark in about an hour; he definitely wouldn't be coming home tonight. Lamb was a little worried about leaving Neil home alone. It would be best if Lamb could stay home with Neil for the night.
"Why don't you stay here for the night? I'm a little worried about Neil being home alone."
Lamb was somewhat disappointed, but then seemed to come up with a solution and perked up again.
"Brother, wait for me, I'm going home."
Lamb rushed out of the house in a flurry. Rae ignored him, found a rope, went outside, hitched up the car, and set off immediately.
Tata looked down on Jenny and kept her distance, watching Lai and Neil bustling around in the living room.
Tata's disdain stemmed from an instinct inherent in high-level magical beasts—they considered ordinary animals to be merely food with little intelligence, unworthy of being compared to them; another reason was reproductive protection, their genes telling them to stay away from these fools who would lower the overall quality.
However, some low-level magical beasts like to mingle with ordinary animals, such as the great-grandfather of the big yellow dog, a seventh-level forest wolf beast.
It didn't take long for Rye to hitch up the mule cart. Lamb also hurried to Rye's house with Hagrid and Lynn.
"Something happened to Guge?"
Hagrid entered the house with a furrowed brow and went straight to Gug, who was reclining on a chaise lounge.
"She fainted due to a head injury and has received emergency treatment."
Ray explained to Hagrid.
"That stubborn old man, I knew this day would come!"
Gu Ge's tone revealed anger and helplessness.
“I’ll go with you. Linda will take care of Neil.”
"good."
"I want to go too!"
Lamb chimed in at the opportune moment, only to be glared at fiercely by Linda.
"Are you going to cause trouble?"
“I’m strong! I can help carry Grandpa Guge. It’s hard for my brother to carry him, and Dad is getting old!”
Lamb volunteered, trying his best to prove his usefulness, and was so anxious that he kept pulling his hair out.
"Okay, let's go together then."
Hagrid finally relented and agreed to let Lamb go with him.
Lai then found a thick blanket and wrapped Gug completely in it. He and Lamb, one lifting Gug's head and the other his feet, lifted him onto the cart, where they sat in the back. Haigra reined in the mule, picked up the whip, and prepared to set off.
Linda had her left arm around Neil and her right hand tightly gripping Jenny's collar. The two of them and the dog stood by the gate to see the four of them off.
"Auntie, the door to Guge's house isn't locked. When you have some free time, could you please lock it for me? I'm worried that some unscrupulous people might try to steal things when no one's home."
"You can set off with peace of mind. Leave things at home to me."
Linda waved, urging them to hurry up and leave.
"Is there anything else?"
Hagrid asked Rye.
"It's gone."
"Then let's go."
Hagrid cracked his whip, and the mule cart moved along the main road toward Rosen. Ray and Lamb held onto Gug in the cart to prevent him from injuring himself on the road.
"Aunt Linda, will Grandpa Gug be alright?"
Neil tilted his head back and asked Linda, who then rubbed Neil's head.
"He'll be alright, God will protect him. Have you had dinner tonight?"
"I've already eaten. My brother stewed some meat."
"Let's go to Guge's house now and lock the door."
"good."
......
Hagrid drove the mule cart as fast as he could, finally arriving in Rosen Town before nightfall. As soon as they arrived, Lamb rushed to carry Gug on his back, while Ray could only stand by and help support him.
As darkness fell, the streets became quiet, and candles were lit in the rooms where people were staying.
Some of the small shops lining the street had closed early; others, with more money to spare, had lit a long row of candles to illuminate the way for their customers. Three figures hurrying along added a touch of vibrancy to the street.
They arrived at Blake's clinic quickly. It was just getting dark, and the clinic was still lit up through the windows facing the street.
Knock knock knock.
Hagrid knocked on the door, but Jack opened it again. Seeing the group of people standing outside, one of whom was carrying another on his back, Jack knew exactly what had happened. He stepped aside, holding the heavy door open, and let Hagrid and the others in.
"What kind of injury did the one on the back suffer?"
"He hit his head in the afternoon, bled a lot, and has been unconscious ever since."
Hagrid answered.
"Put him on the bed first."
Lamb placed Gug on the bed board.
"Wait a moment, I'll go and call the doctor down."
After saying that, Jack took two steps at a time and went upstairs to call Blake.
The fireplace on the first floor was warm, but it soon became unbearably hot as people entered, so they took off their hats and unbuttoned their coats.
Where is the patient?
The three of them turned to look at Blake, making way for him so they wouldn't stand by the bed and block his view.
"Hagrid, it's you."
"Oh, and Ray too. How many times have we met this month? Who got injured this time?"
After greeting Hagrid, Blake couldn't resist making a casual joke.
Lei was also helpless about this, as he had indeed been traveling around here a lot lately.
Blake removed the bandages from Gug's head to check the condition of his head wound.
"Have you dealt with it?"
Blake asked Ray, the meaning of which was self-evident, referring solely to magic.
"Yes. But I don't know why, almost two hours have passed and he still hasn't woken up."
"Let me check."
Several people gathered around the bed, watching Blake examine Gug. A faint green light emanated from the use of magic, illuminating the small area.
Blackchin's slightly furrowed brows slowly smoothed out, and he withdrew his hand.
"How about it?"
Hagrid asked.
"No problems were found in his body; the coma was likely caused by excessive blood loss."
Blake continued to examine Gug's condition.
There were no marks on his upper body, but a bruise was found on his calf, which was obviously red and swollen.
Blake's expression turned serious. He squeezed his calf hard and, after several examinations, reached a final conclusion.
"There's no fracture, but the fall was quite severe, and walking will be a bit difficult for him for the time being."
The three of them finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"I'll give him some medicine first and observe him here overnight. If he still hasn't woken up by tomorrow, the problem might be serious."
Blake's words made the three of them, who had just relaxed a little, tense up again.
“It’s getting late, you probably won’t be able to go back today. There are two beds on the second floor, and Jack needs to stay on the first floor. You three should discuss who will stay and take care of him. I’ll go find the medicine.”
Hagrid looked at Ray and Lamb and volunteered.
“I’ll take care of Gug. I’ll give you two some silver coins to stay at the town’s inn. There are all sorts of people in the tavern, so don’t think you can broaden your horizons there. Ray, keep an eye on Lamb.”
"good."
Hagrid made the final decision.
Actually, it would be better for either Lai or Lamb to stay here to take care of the child while the other child moves out. However, considering Gug's special situation tonight, and fearing that something else might go wrong, the two children couldn't make a decision. So, he stayed.
"Go on, all the hotels will be closing soon."
Hagrid urged the two to get dressed, slipped Lamb five silver coins, and watched them leave.
The two figures gradually disappeared into the dim night.
