Chapter 74 A narrow escape, minor injuries, and returning home.
"Brother! Brother! Where are you?"
"Where did you hide my brother?!"
Even from a distance, Lamb's anxious shouts could be heard; it was clear he was on the verge of hitting someone. Ray rushed downstairs to find the nearly out-of-control Lamb.
"Lam, I'm here, Lamb!"
After calling out several times, Lamb finally released the servant's collar and rushed to him.
"Brother, are you alright? I thought something had happened to you. If something had happened to you, how could I explain it to Neil!"
Lamb looked tense and fearful.
"Brother, where did you go? Why didn't you tell me?"
"I'm sorry, Lamb, something suddenly happened. I'll tell you when we get back."
The people in the hall were all watching them, so it wasn't convenient for them to talk about certain things.
"Ha, the missing person is back. Your good brother has turned this place upside down."
An old woman made sarcastic remarks about Lamb, saying the fault lay with them, and Ray politely apologized to her.
The lobby is now filled with everyone from the entire hotel.
There were four people who had experienced last night's events: an old woman, a country woman carrying a huge bundle followed by young children, a middle-aged man who was drunk, and a hotel staff member.
"Now that we've found the person, let's enjoy our breakfast."
Jin, neither humble nor arrogant, smoothed things over and arranged for everyone to be seated. In a corner where no one could see him, he gave Lai a strange smile.
What else does Jin know?
Ray frowned as he looked at him.
"May I sit with you?"
The woman from last night brought a tray to Ray and Lamb's table.
A handprint and a bruise appeared on her face. The man, who had changed his clothes at some point, was now glaring fiercely at the three of them.
"You can sit at the table next to us."
"Thanks."
The woman sat down and began to eat in silence. Large tears fell onto her plate with a soft patter.
This attracted Lamb's frequent glances at her.
"Eat quickly, we still need to visit the patient later."
"Okay, sure."
Lamb quickened his eating pace, stuffing a whole bird egg into his mouth.
To be fair, the pork chop tasted really good; Lai ate the last piece of meat on the plate.
A hearty breakfast and warm morning tea brought comfort to early risers, calming their emotions.
Those who were on their way continued on their way, while those who were resting continued to rest. Jin instructed his male servant to summon the four men to an empty room on the second floor and give each of them a small bag.
"The compensation and last night's room fee are included. I hope everyone can keep quiet about this."
The man snatched the pocket and emptied out the gleaming silver coins. Greed and excitement were blatantly displayed on his face; he was beaming with joy.
"Absolutely, absolutely! Butler Jin, please rest assured, I assure you I will not reveal anything!"
Jin held men in contempt and said nothing, only offering a meaningful smile.
"Here's what you wanted."
The woman took the silver coins, counted the amount inside, and then held them tightly in her palm.
"Thanks."
Both Ray and Lamb received two small bags. Lamb looked at Ray with hesitation, unsure whether he should accept this substantial compensation.
“Take it, Lamb, it’s what we deserve.”
Ray accepted the money without hesitation.
He still vividly remembered the unpleasant experience from that morning. The other party had actually tried to trick him into signing that deceptive contract, and he had only received some financial compensation that was insignificant to them.
After all, that room full of collectibles couldn't be easily acquired with just a few gold coins.
Not wanting to have any further involvement with this place, Ray took Neil and left immediately after receiving the compensation. They then bought four servings of bread and sausages at a bakery and went to Black's Medical Clinic.
The air was chilly on this winter morning. The morning market was already open, and there were many more pedestrians on the street, each carrying a shopping basket.
Ray and Lamb walked for a long time before finally arriving at the infirmary. Along the way, Ray concealed the necromancer and skeletons, and briefly explained what had happened that morning.
Lamb heard that Ray had met with the owner of the Kako Inn, and that he also
After giving Lai a decorative item, he was stunned.
His brother is really something; he manages to meet new people wherever he goes.
"Lam, come in quickly."
"Okay, bro."
Rye pushed open the door of the clinic. Jack was cleaning the ashes from the fireplace, but Hagrid and Gug were nowhere to be seen.
"Jack, where's Uncle Hagrid?"
"It's upstairs, hurry up, it's very dusty and choking in here."
Jack had a cloth wrapped around his face, and his voice was muffled.
"I brought you breakfast, remember to eat it when you're done. I've also left the lamps here for you."
On the table, Lei placed a lamp, a newly bought candle, and a breakfast.
"You're too kind, Mr. Victor. Thank you very much for your generosity."
"It's alright, you've worked hard taking care of the patient."
Ray and Lamb went upstairs.
Hagrid was awake and sitting at the table drinking water. Gug was still asleep in bed.
"Uncle Hagrid, is Gug awake?"
Hagrid nodded; although his eyes were somewhat bloodshot, he looked very energetic.
"He woke up around midnight last night. He got up once, we chatted for a while and then he fell asleep again. Luckily you brought breakfast, so we'll wake Guge up later and let him eat some too. For now, let him continue sleeping."
Is Dr. Blake still there?
"Lay then asked."
“He sleeps upstairs. I asked Jack, and he usually gets up very late.”
"Okay, let's eat, Uncle Hagrid. Lamb and I have already eaten at the hotel's small restaurant."
"Um."
Guge's head was wrapped in bandages, his lips were pale, and he looked very haggard. It was probably due to excessive blood loss.
His disheveled appearance made Lai feel very uncomfortable. At this moment, Lai truly felt Guge's aging. He was no longer young, living alone in the small mountain village, but he did not need anyone's pity.
Gug slowly opened his eyes and turned his head to look at Hagrid and the others, just as Ray happened to be looking at him.
"Ray, Lamb, you're here."
Lai and Lamb went to the bedside and helped Gug up.
"I bought breakfast, so I'll eat something when I get up."
"That's what Lei said."
"Alright. I'm getting old, and it's rare for me to sleep for such a long time. I'm sorry to trouble you younger generations."
"This is what we should do, you don't need to worry about it."
As Lamb spoke, he carefully helped Gug up and led him to the table.
Although Guge's leg wasn't broken, the injury was quite serious. There was some swelling under the purplish-blue bruises, and he walked with a limp, needing someone to help him or using crutches for support.
"Does your head still hurt?"
Hagrid asked.
"It doesn't hurt anymore, but I feel a little dizzy."
"Eat something quickly, you haven't eaten all day yesterday afternoon and evening."
Hagrid handed Guger some bread and sausages, and poured him a cup of barley tea.
Although Gugge had a poor appetite, he ate a little due to hunger. Halfway through his bread, Blake joined in the breakfast.
After the group finished breakfast, they went downstairs, where Jack was adding branches and firewood to the fireplace.
"Good morning, Dr. Blake."
Good morning, Jack.
"Dr. Blake, the price of firewood has been rising rapidly lately, and it will definitely be even more expensive when the coldest season arrives. Should we reduce our firewood usage, or should we stock up now?"
Jack casually asked Blake a question, and Blake thought for a moment but didn't immediately give Jack an answer.
"Wait a little longer, how many more days will the firewood the clinic has stockpiled last?"
Five days.
"You've been buying firewood from nearby villages as usual these past few days. I'll find a way to help you as soon as possible."
“Yes, Dr. Blake.”
Hagrid and Ray exchanged a glance, but neither of them spoke.
If Blake hadn't said to wait a little longer, or if they weren't family members of a patient coming for a checkup, Hagrid would have directly offered to get Blake several truckloads of firewood. But seeing Blake's unhurried demeanor, he seemed to have his own connections, so they decided not to interfere and cause him any trouble.
How are you feeling today?
Blake asked Gugge to begin the consultation and diagnosis.
The examination results were good, but Guge is old, so his recovery time will be a little longer.
After Hagrid paid the medical bills, Lamb carried Gug, and the four of them retrieved the mule cart and returned to the small mountain village.
The key was with Linda, so we went to Hagrid's house to get it first, and also picked up Neil, who was temporarily staying in Lamb's room.
Little Neil hadn't seen his brother all night, and was also worried about Gug getting hurt, so he had dark circles under his eyes.
"Brother, you're finally back! I was so worried! How is Grandpa Guge? Is he badly injured?"
"Little Neil, the fact that I can sit so energetically in the car tells you I'm fine."
Neil gave Gug a big smile.
"That's wonderful!"
Linda looked at Hagrid with a questioning gaze.
"It's just some superficial injury; nothing inside the head was damaged. It will be fine after some rest."
Hearing her husband's answer, Linda finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Come inside quickly, we need to head to Guge's house first."
After Hagrid finished speaking, he continued driving to Hagrid's house.
They didn't get the key, and just as dawn broke, Linda told Reese to go to Gug and Lai's house and light the fireplace so that their rooms wouldn't be too cold when they returned.
When we arrived at Guge's house, smoke was still billowing from the chimney of the small building.
Lamb carried Gug on his back as always, and only after everything was settled did everyone leave.
Hagrid and Ray agreed that for the next period of time, Ray would bring Gug breakfast and dinner, while Hagrid would bring lunch, until Gug recovered.
Hagrid was worried that Ray wouldn't have enough food, so he had Lamb carry a bag of it over for him when he got back.
The house was warm and cozy thanks to Reese's heater. As soon as he got home, Lai relaxed completely and sprawled out on the recliner to rest.
"Brother, what is this? Can I open it and take a look?"
Neil asked Ray, who glanced back and saw the small square scarf wrapped around his neck.
"See? Don't be scared."
Neil opened it, revealing a lifelike miniature plaster skull inside.
"Ah! It's a skeleton."
"Hmm, it's a decoration given by a stranger, but his taste is really terrible. Don't display it outside."
"Okay. Brother, have you had breakfast yet?"
"I've already eaten. What about you?"
“I’ve already eaten. Aunt Linda made a thick soup this morning.”
"Okay, Neil, are you going to school today?"
"No, I'm not going. Lisgo got me and Luna excused from school. There's nothing to learn lately, and winter break is just around the corner."
"Then you look after the livestock at home, I'm going to take a nap."
"Okay, brother, you go to sleep."
The warm fire quickly lulled Ray into a sleepy state, and he gradually drifted off to sleep in the recliner, with Neil covering him with a blanket.
"Brother, you've worked hard."
Neil said in a low voice.
Tata glanced at Ray on the recliner and felt he was more comfortable there. She clung to Ray's trouser leg and laboriously climbed up. Nestled in Ray's arms, she drifted off to sleep.
Neil yawned, lowered his voice, and began doing housework.

Some rumors (unverified): It is said that the first undead was born in the ruins of an ancient battlefield on the continent of Casa. Since then, the undead race has rapidly developed and expanded, becoming one of the most mysterious races on the continent.
If you think the souls of the deceased are this mysterious race, you are sorely mistaken. They can only be considered "spirits," not a "race of the dead." They are simply some pitiful people who, for various reasons, are bound to this painful mortal world.
Editor's Note: If you unfortunately encounter a spirit of the dead, run away immediately! Most of them do not have their own thoughts or consciousness! (Sincere advice from the editor's unfortunate personal experience)
