Chapter 248 Unexpected Wartime Visitors, Intentions, Arrival
Wasn't Vesper on the battlefield in the Third Territory?
Upon hearing what the butler said, Ray's first reaction was one of doubt.
He quickly got up and changed his clothes, startling the little monster who was already drowsy and about to fall asleep.
Where is he now?
"Two people came to the study; the other was Mr. Nash."
"Okay, I understand."
As he buttoned his shirt, Lai hurried to the study.
"Ray, wait for the beasts! The beasts want to go too!"
Vesper and Nash were sitting on the sofa in the study, holding hot tea that Cher had prepared.
The two waited only a short while before Ray rushed over. His face showed obvious surprise at seeing them.
"Long time no see, Ray."
Nash greeted Ray with a smile, but his face couldn't hide his fatigue.
"you......"
"I know what you want to ask, but don't rush, let's hear what the adults have to say first."
Nash said, glancing at Vesper who was still drinking tea.
"Please sit down."
Vesper gestured for Lei to sit in the chair next to him, showing none of the awkwardness one might expect from someone visiting Victor's Manor for the first time.
“Lay, actually we came here today to see your little friend.”
Young friend, it's Ryan.
“You said He is here now.”
"good."
Ryan didn't want to show himself to Vesper, but He said he could listen to what Vesper had to say first.
"The situation in Eaton Forest is not good, and operations are quite difficult. In order to end the war as soon as possible, and for the safety of all the residents of the continent, I would like to borrow your strength."
Ah, this...
This is indeed not something that Ray can decide.
Ryan is independent. Although the contract binds Him firmly to Ray, Ray does not have the right to make decisions for Him.
Why should I help you?
Ryan has appeared.
Nash was so startled by the elementalist who suddenly appeared in front of him that he choked on his water.
Having spent so much time with Ray, this was the first time he had ever known that Ray actually had such a fantastical creature by his side, a creature that only existed in various books.
"I can give you a chance, if you can convince me."
Lian lowered his eyes and looked at the white-haired old man on the sofa.
Their eyes met, and both Ray and Nash sensed a growing tension in the air.
"Is that a true elementalist?"
Nash leaned close to Rye's ear and asked what he thought was a whisper. In reality, everyone present heard him.
"Four, really."
A furry beast head suddenly emerged from between Nash and Ray.
Nash stared in shock at the little monster blinking his big blue eyes and shoved him away from Rye.
Tata said: "Lei, beast, crocodile human, stay away."
Lai was at his wit's end. Tata's sudden revelation of his identity left him with no way to salvage the situation and he could only accept it.
You can't just knock Nash unconscious with a brick and make him forget everything that just happened.
The Archmage smiled. He really didn't know how to persuade Ryan, but he was willing to give it a try.
The fact that the Elementalists have joined the war will at least push back the end of the war by a few years.
"Whatever your request, I, representing the White Tower, can grant it as long as it does not violate the interests of any race."
Vesper's words carried immense weight, essentially gambled the fate of the entire White Tower.
"What if I wanted the whole White Pagoda?"
"Please go ahead."
"hehe."
It's not that Ryan couldn't go; He simply disdained to go.
Demons, humans, or other races on the continent—none of them mattered to Him.
Even if all living things were to become extinct at this moment, He would still still exist.
Elements are born from elements and return to elements; they are the very composition of this world.
“I may go, but I must take him with me.”
Ryan looked at Ray, realizing that humans were innocent victims caught in the crossfire.
"I?"
Ray pointed to himself and noticed that everyone else in the room was looking at him.
"I can't do it."
Lei waved his hand.
"If we really go to the battlefield, I'll just be cannon fodder and drag everyone down."
"It's alright. Stay by my side, and I will protect your safety."
Nash winked at Ray, signaling him to agree quickly. This was a golden opportunity, and he was afraid Ryan might suddenly change his mind again.
"Okay, I'll go."
Ray had no choice but to agree, and Nash breathed a sigh of relief.
"The beasts must go too!"
Tata said anxiously, her voice extremely loud.
"Even beasts can protect Lai!"
"Okay, everyone go."
Before Ray could even refuse, Vesper had already agreed.
"Thank you for your help to the people of the entire continent. My promise remains valid, no matter when or what you need."
The Holy Archmage solemnly promised.
Words become law; a certain agreement has been reached between the two.
Only the world where Ray was injured was achieved.
After the matter was settled, Lai saw the two off.
Time is of the essence; they will depart tomorrow afternoon. Leigh has less than a day left.
He needs to prepare as soon as possible and handle all the matters at the manor.
Ray first went to the Vatican to tell Edmund about it.
Neither of them expected that the one most likely to go to the battlefield would not go, while the one least likely would go.
"Go in peace. I'll take care of things at the manor. With a Saint Magister as your guarantor, you shouldn't be in any danger."
Even so, over there, if you sense anything is amiss, you immediately run away.
"Ray, you're not a soldier, and you don't serve either side. Life is only once, and I'd rather see you alive than stay there forever."
Edmund's words of advice were earnest and entirely for Ray's own benefit.
At this moment, he was no longer a knight, nor any other identity, but a father who cared for his child.
That afternoon, he told Ray all the ways he knew how to survive on the battlefield.
He hoped that Ray would prioritize his own safety over there.
Time flew by. Lai packed his belongings and gave the people in the manor some detailed instructions, leaving them enough food and gold coins.
"I don't know when I'll be able to return. Be careful, and if you have any problems, go to Baron Edmund; he will help you."
Cher, Vincent, and Diana escorted Ray and Tata to the White Tower.
Kama actually wanted to go, but she had three young children at home who needed to be taken care of, so she couldn't go.
After saying goodbye to them, Ray led Tata through the gates of the White Tower. Nash was waiting for him there.
"Lay, you're here. Don't worry. I'll protect you with my life."
Nash made a solemn promise.
"The master has already assigned me to protect you closely over there."
Nash continued, winking at Rye.
“I stayed at home yesterday and my family told me about you. Ray, thank you for taking care of my family during this time.”
"We don't need to be so polite between us."
Ray patted Nash on the shoulder.
The two walked into the white pagoda side by side.
Tata walked straight ahead without looking to the side, strutting confidently and proudly. This drew curious glances from the people at the White Tower every now and then.
Nash led Ray all the way to the second underground level of the White Tower, where the Holy Archmage was already waiting.
In addition, there were a dozen or so magicians, hidden under their wide robes, making it impossible to discern their true faces.
They were all strangers.
Ray thought to himself. He obediently stood next to Weisper, following Nash.
"You've arrived."
The Holy Archmage's smile was amiable. The others all cast inquisitive glances at Lai.
"Um."
Lei returned a smile.
"Is everyone here?"
Someone asked.
"No, we're still missing one."
"Gently! Gently lift! You idiots!"
Golden Oak's voice was very distinctive, and Ray recognized him immediately.
A group of people poured into the basement and carried more than a dozen large wooden crates to the side of the central lampstand-shaped stone pillar.
Lai then realized that there was a huge magic circle carved on the ground.
After putting the things down, the group left. Golden Oak, wearing a set of gleaming chainmail, walked straight up to Vesper.
"The things are ready. Let's make it clear, this is the last time I'll help you."
"Yes. As agreed, you are free to stay or leave after the war ends."
Golden Oak exhaled a breath from its nose, raised its eyebrows, and looked quite smug.
"That's more like it."
"Oh, right, this is for you."
Nash took out a dark green mage's robe and handed it to Ray, gesturing for him to put it on.
When Golden Oak noticed that Ray was there, his eyes lit up and he immediately stood next to him.
"Hey."
Golden Oak nudged Ray with his broad shoulder.
The dwarf was strong and unaware of it, and coupled with his hard chainmail, he nearly knocked Ray off balance.
What's wrong?
Ray looked at Golden Oak with a questioning gaze, and Nash took a half step back but then stopped abruptly.
In the years since he took over collecting materials for the dwarfs, he's been constantly berated by Golden Oak. Now, he's developed a conditioned reflex to hide whenever he sees him.
What are you doing here?
Ray tried to pretend he hadn't heard, but the dwarf stubbornly persisted until he got an answer, asking incessantly.
The appearance of Golden Oak on the second basement level had already attracted a lot of attention, but now the focus is even more on Golden Oak and Laiyi.
They weren't so unrestrained because of Vesper standing next to them.
"Go help."
Lei answered in a low voice.
"Oh, I see. I was just going to help out."
Golden Oak stroked his handsome beard.
There was no objection raised by the White Tower to inviting Lai, an unknown nobody, to help on the battlefield.
"Everyone's here, let's go."
When Vesper spoke, the others also withdrew their curious gazes.
A person dressed in a dark blue mage's robe walked to the central stone pillar, took out a round stone about the size of two fists from the wide sleeves of the robe, and placed it on the pillar.
"That's an energy stone."
Golden Oak explained that, after the dwarf reminded him, Ray looked at it carefully for a while before he finally realized that it was indeed an energy stone.
"Why bother polishing it? It's not like the whole piece is unusable."
Golden Oak muttered to itself.
The others seemed to have gotten used to it and selectively ignored Golden Oak's various actions and complaints.
With the energy stone in place, the blue-robed mage immediately activated the magic circle.
Lai felt an unusually powerful magic spreading outwards. The previously inconspicuous magic circle on the ground, starting from the stone pillar, gradually began to glow.
The moment the entire magic circle lit up, he felt a strong sense of weightlessness.
In a flash, a completely unfamiliar scene appeared before his eyes, one he had never seen before.
"My lord, you're back."
Beside a magic circle in an unfamiliar location stood a mage in white robes and a middle-aged knight in armor.
