Chapter 129: Settled, Resolved, Leaving, Dependence

Chapter 129: Settled, Resolved, Leaving, Dependence

The solutions to many problems at a particular moment are beyond human control. Although the process is full of helplessness, it will eventually lead to a good outcome.

The villagers knew that setting fire to the forest was the only way to completely prevent the spread of the plague.

At this point, the defensive mage withdrew his magic; three hours of continuous attacks had left him somewhat exhausted. Fortunately, the magical element around the small mountain village was plentiful, which made him feel a little better.

Wokain used magic to send the wood mage into the air. Once the mage was stable, he began to cast spells.

A deep green magical light appeared on his palm. He used this power to quickly form a small magic circle in the air, and then another, more complex magic circle continued to extend from this small magic circle.

Ray had only seen this kind of magic in the section on higher-level magic in that magic notebook, and he couldn't do it yet.

One magic circle after another was created, building upon the foundation of the previous one. The lines on the completed magic circles seemed to possess a life of their own, shimmering and full of vitality.

Finally, the eight-layered magic circle was completed, each layer intricately linked, complex and mysterious.

Ray was stunned by what he saw; such a magnificent and intricate magic circle was formed in an instant, making him realize his own weakness once again.

There is no harm without comparison.

Before witnessing such a breathtaking scene, he had never imagined that magic from another world could achieve such a level.

In the past, such earth-shattering power only appeared in anime and movies, but now this power is actually appearing before him.

This shows how shocking it was for Ray, who still retained a modern mindset.

As the magic circle was successfully formed, the eight-layered magic circle began to rotate and resonate, frantically drawing in the surrounding wood-type magic elements, and vaguely forming a small magic vortex.

The energy lines that drew the magic circle grew brighter and brighter as more magical elements were captured. Finally, a green ray of light fell from the circle at an extremely fast speed, crashing onto the already scorched earth.

It was like an energy rain.

This process lasted only a few minutes. As the energy was exhausted, the magic circle lost all its light and eventually dissipated into the air.

Years later, whenever the villagers in the small mountain village recalled this scene, they felt as if a miracle had occurred.

"it's over."

Wokain reminded them that the villagers, who had become dazed, had regained their senses.

"Magicians from the White Tower, thank you for your help! You saved all the residents living nearby."

Barnett bowed deeply and expressed his sincere gratitude to them.

Thank you!

"Thank you, mages of the White Pagoda!"

"You saved our lives and protected our village!"

"Thanks!"

"grateful!"

...

The villagers expressed their gratitude one after another, and they all bowed in thanks, just like Barnett.

Wokain had received countless praises and adoration; his supporters would always present him with the most beautiful garlands. This was just a trivial little scene, yet for some reason it stirred a small ripple in his heart, leaving him somewhat at a loss.

His teachers always said that he was like a rose in a tower, proud and unattainable, and very far away from people.

He is very talented, obsessed with researching various ancient magic and forbidden arts, and possesses extraordinary strength. However, he lacks the ability to empathize with the common people. His teacher said that this would only distance him further from everyone else, and he would forever remain just a "rose."

During this journey, they experienced a series of events, witnessed the hardships of ordinary people's lives, and also saw the complexity of human nature. These experiences gradually made him understand why he was the rose in his teacher's eyes.

He truly never cared about, or even observed, the lives of ordinary people.

This was not because he was too proud, but because of his family background and social status, which meant he had never been exposed to these things.

I don't know when it started, but the teacher always seemed to be intentionally exposing him to these things. This trip from the capital to this remote town must have been another deliberate act by the teacher.

He understood his teacher's good intentions and was trying his best to understand the lives of people at the bottom of society in his own way.

"I wonder if any of you have time to attend the banquet that the village has prepared for you."

Barnett asked.

Given the magnitude of this event, Barnett wanted to express his gratitude to them in the most solemn way possible in the village.

"Mr. Vorcain."

The defensive mage whispered a reminder, and Vokain finally snapped out of his thoughts.

"I'm sorry, elder, we still have some tasks to complete and must return to town tonight."

"This, this..."

Barnett was in a dilemma. It wasn't in his nature to accept kindness without reciprocating. But these mages from the royal city seemed to lack nothing.

"It's alright, elders, I have already received your thanks."

The defensive mage noticed Barnett's predicament and stepped in to help both sides out of the predicament.

"There may still be some embers in the ashes. You will have to deal with these remaining small flames on your own. Without the aid of magic, you only need some river water to extinguish them."

"well."

"Sir, here, here."

The guide waved his hand and, with an extremely proud air, led the horse out of the woods at the opportune moment.

He had witnessed the entire grand spectacle. He felt extremely proud to serve such a generous and important person.

After saying goodbye, Wokain and the others mounted their horses and left the small mountain village.

Edmund hid next to Ray and, while everyone's attention was on Wocain, quietly told Ray something and went home.

He didn't want to be caught by the excited villagers and forced to attend some kind of victory celebration.

Only the villagers of the small mountain village remained in the withered forest.

Barnett quickly took on the role of a clan elder, leading all the villagers present to begin the follow-up work.

Lai, naturally, couldn't leave either, so he borrowed a basin from other villagers and started putting out the fire.

More and more villagers from other villages began to join in, chatting as they worked. When the villagers who arrived later heard what had just happened, they were all amazed.

After several hours, all the flames in the forest were finally extinguished. In some places, the bare forest floor had even turned into mud due to excessive watering.

In the forest, all the remaining vines had turned to ashes, leaving no trace, as if they had never existed.

The ground was covered in ashes, and the villagers were in a very sorry state.

Their shoes, pants, clothes, bodies, and faces were all covered in black grime. The problem that had been weighing on everyone's minds was finally solved, albeit crudely, but it effectively addressed the issue. This brought everyone immense joy.

"Alright, everyone go home and tidy yourselves up. We'll send patrols over tonight to keep watch and prevent these flames from reigniting. Tomorrow I'll bring gifts to town to thank these mages who saved us from this ordeal."

After Barnett spoke, the villagers lingered for a while before slowly dispersing and returning home, their faces filled with a relieved joy.

Lamb, with a big, painted face, approached Ray and began to mock him.

"Bro, how did you tear your sleeves while putting out the fire? Hahahaha."

When Ray was carrying water for the villagers, their sleeves were torn by the villagers in their haste, exposing most of one of his arms.

Lamb's appearance was no less impressive; his little red curly hair had somehow been burned off by the fire, severely damaging his image.

Lei and Hagrid were among the first group of villagers to arrive.

Rye told Hagrid about Edmund's plans to deal with the deadwood, and Hagrid told Rye, Brian, and a few others to take their weapons and go there to see if they could offer Edmund some assistance.

"Ray, where's Edmund?"

Hagrid secretly asked Rye.

"He quietly went back when no one was looking, saying he didn't want to attract too much attention."

“Alright, bring Edmund and Neil home tonight, and I’ll treat you to dinner.”

“Okay, Uncle Hagrid.”

Lei was a little tired and dragged himself home. By then, Neil had already come home from school and was sitting at the long table in the living room doing his homework.

Edmund was reading a book that Rye had bought; it must have been found for him by Neil.

"You're back?"

Edmund asked with a smile.

Neil put down his pen, rushed to Ray, and gave him a hug.

"Brother, I heard the woods are on fire. Are you hurt?"

"I wasn't injured; my clothes were accidentally torn."

"oh oh."

Tata circled around Lai twice, seemingly wanting to get close but not quite. After being choked by the stench and sneezing violently, she decisively moved away from Lai, who reeked of her odor.

"Neil, let me go, I need to take a shower."

"Brother, let me boil some water for you!"

Edmund watched with amusement as Neil fawned over Ray, acting like a puppy.

"Uncle Hagrid said he wants us to come to his house for dinner tonight."

"Okay, you go take a shower first, we'll go together later."

"Um."

After Ray went back to his room to get clean clothes to change into, he began to tidy himself up, while Neil sat back down at the president's table.

"Ah, my brother smells so strange. Besides the wood ash, there's also a stinky smell on him."

"Hmm? What's that smell?"

Edmund was puzzled; he only smelled something burning.

“Neil, what do I smell like?”

Neil sniffed carefully and came to a conclusion.

"It smells of metal and fire. Ah, Uncle Edmund, you smell like my brother too. Did you go to the Dead Forest too?"

"Yes, but I came back earlier."

Neil had an "I knew it" look on his face.

"Uncle Edmund, I have a question for you, just between us."

Neil put down his pen and said mysteriously.

"What's the problem?"

Edmund whispered back, matching Neil's subtle gesture.

"What is the royal city like?"

"The royal city has a large and tall castle and towers, wide roads, all sorts of shops selling a wide variety of goods, and countless outstanding people contributing to the prosperity of the nation every day. And..."

Neil listened attentively to Edmund's story.

"Neil, do you want to go to the royal city?"

Edmund stared into Neil's eyes and asked.

"No, I don't want to go."

Neil shook his head firmly.

"I just want to stay by my brother's side forever. Wherever he goes, I will go."

"Good boy."

Edmund stroked Neil's soft hair.

If this is your wish, then what reason or status do I have to disrupt your peaceful and happy life now?

He couldn't help but think of it.
