Chapter 157 The Death of the Little Fairy (Part 2) Herbs, dissipation, bones...
The little elf led the way, with Lai and Tata following leisurely behind, followed by a group of curious little creatures.
As expected, the little elf led Lai to dig up many more herbs. It seemed very familiar with the area, as if it had been there many times before.
"Okay, that's enough."
Lai showed it the basket that was already full, and the little elf gave up on continuing to search with Lai.
It flapped its wings and flew to Lai's shoulder, affectionately nuzzling Lai's cheek.
"Don't you dare kiss Lai Yi! Ouch!"
Tata glared angrily at the elf; he knew the little guy had no good intentions!
The little elf paused for a moment, as if not understanding what it had done to offend the little monster, and moved even closer to Laiyi, looking aggrieved.
"Tata, don't fight."
"No beasts."
Tata frowned as he looked at Laiyi, only to find the little elf making a face at him.
"Oh! It's bad! It did it on purpose!"
Ray turned to look at the little creature on his shoulder, which nuzzled his nose affectionately. Aside from being a bit clingy, Ray didn't notice anything wrong.
"Okay, let's take it back and then go home."
Tata was a little annoyed that Lai had changed the subject. She snorted, ran a few steps, turned her back to Lai, and muttered to herself. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She stopped and looked at the other guy flying.
"Lord Ryan said, wasn't it just mocking the beast?"
Somewhat lost in thought, Ryan glanced at the sulking little monster and the happy little elf clinging to Laiyi.
Logically speaking, these little creatures born from natural things shouldn't have high intelligence, nor should they exhibit the behaviors just now. Perhaps they are worth studying.
Tata's words brought Him back to his senses.
"have no idea."
To be honest, Ryan was more interested in the ginkgo tree than in the love-hate relationship between the two little ones.
"Aww!"
Tata became even angrier and ran away.
"Tata, don't run too far."
"Awooooo!"
That beast doesn't need Lai's help!
The sky was dark and gloomy. It was fine when we came out, but now large patches of dark clouds had gathered in the sky.
Lai quickened his pace back to the vicinity of the ginkgo tree. Staying in the forest in this weather could be very dangerous if there was a thunderstorm.
We're leaving, but we can't take you with us.
"Ray said to the elf."
It pretended not to understand and flew around Lai again and again, refusing to leave.
"I can help you solve it."
When Ray heard the word "solve" from Ryan, he felt a strange chill run down his spine.
"Thank you, but I won't trouble you."
Ryan looked down at Lai for several seconds, then leisurely flew to a branch of the ginkgo tree and sat down to see how Lai would deal with the little thing.
Do you need any more energy balls? I can give you a few more.
The little elf shook its head, wanting to get closer to Laiyi.
"That's all for today. I'll come see you again in a few days when the weather is nice, okay?"
The little elf seemed to be deep in thought, as if seriously considering the problem, which gave Lei some hope, but it still shook its head, and the situation reached a stalemate.
The sound of rustling leaves came from the woods.
The wind is picking up.
Ginkgo leaves drifted down in the wind, creating a golden rain. Lai and the elf faced each other, waiting for one of them to give in first.
The wind stopped, but the leaves were still dancing. Lai noticed that there were some small white particles mixed in with the bright yellow leaves.
He raised the back of his hand and held it for a while, then discovered that these small white particles were actually small, regularly shaped ice crystals.
It's only a few months old, and it's already snowing.
Lai was somewhat taken aback; the first snow of the year had come so unexpectedly.
The little elf followed Laiyi's movements, looking up at the sky, its pupils reflecting the fluttering ginkgo leaves and snowflakes it had never seen before.
At first, the snowflakes fell sparsely, but now they have turned into a light snowfall.
It looked at the small white flowers with curiosity, and the light on its wings gradually dimmed again.
Its body was already very weak, but it was very happy and excited to encounter Lai in the forest today.
"Ray, what?"
The little elf struggled to learn to speak, trying to communicate with Lai using the few words it knew.
"Snow."
Lei Yi effortlessly understood what the little sprite meant and answered its question.
"Snow~"
It was very happy that it had learned a new word.
"Snow, beautiful."
"Um."
"Snow~"
"Snow~"
Lai heard other little elves chiming in from the corner; they seemed to enjoy mimicking the words of their kind.
The little elf happily spun around twice in the air, then suddenly felt all the strength drain from its body.
Ray saw the light on its wings completely disappear, and it crashed to the ground like a ginkgo fruit. He caught the suddenly falling sprite with his hands in a flash.
The little elf lay on Lai's palm looking weak and bewildered, which made Lai feel that something was wrong.
What's wrong with it?
Ray asked Ryan.
Ryan remained motionless on the ginkgo tree, glancing down at the little elf lying in Lai's palm.
"It's dying."
Lei frowned.
"Can I use a healing spell to save it?"
"No, that's just how they are."
A green light flickered in Ray's palm, turning the elf's transparent wings green. But just as Ryan had said, his magic had no effect whatsoever.
He felt that this small body was like a funnel, no matter how much magic he channeled, it all leaked out without being absorbed.
The little elf lay in his palm, staring at him without blinking, and Lei's expression was not good.
Suddenly, it moved.
It struggled to support its body and tried to flap its wings to bring itself to eye level with Ray.
Lei could tell that it was putting on a brave face.
“I like it, Lei.”
He heard the little guy say that and felt a cool kiss fall on his forehead.
It quickly flew away from Lei's forehead, a happy smile on its face.
There were no regrets, no tears; perhaps it didn't even know what death was.
The sprite's wings stopped flapping again, and this time Lei failed to catch it.
The tiny body suddenly shattered during its descent, turning into specks of light and dust, which eventually disappeared into the air.
It always had a smile on its face, and Ray felt a sense of emptiness in his heart.
"Human, what's with that expression?"
Ryan sat on Ray's shoulders.
"That's how they are: born in early spring and die in late autumn, with a lifespan of only a few months."
Ryan pointed to a group of little elves hiding behind the tree, with light dust constantly drifting out from among them.
"They're too weak, but yours is special. It's the first little creature I've ever seen that actively makes a pact with a human."
This first snowfall was too light; it has already stopped falling, and there isn't even a thin layer of snow on the ground. The fallen leaves are damp, the residue left by the melting snowflakes.
Will it come back to life next spring?
Ray felt his mouth was dry, and he thought he had asked a stupid question.
Won't.
"No. I've said before that their lifespan is very short."
Ryan's response was a long silence.
"I suggest you forget about it as soon as possible. Once it's dead, it's dead. Their 'mother' will reclaim the energy that was spilled out."
Ryan continued, looking at the old ginkgo tree.
The shadows of the trees swayed, as if the ginkgo trees were responding to Ryan's gaze.
"Let's go back quickly, it's going to rain."
"Um."
Lei rubbed his cheeks.
"Tata, come out, we're going back."
The little monster emerged from a gap in the bushes, looking dejected.
He didn't go far; he returned to the old ginkgo tree ahead of time and hid himself completely. He had seen everything that had just happened.
He just didn't like the noisy little guy bothering Lai too much, but he didn't expect it to...
"Tata?"
The little monster, unlike its usual lively self, looked listless.
"Lay, the little thing has disappeared, and the beast is feeling a bit uneasy."
So they had all seen it. Lei understood.
“Tata, come here.”
Tata came to Laiyi's feet and was hugged in his arms.
"It's okay, let's go home."
"Okay, sure."
Tata buried her face in Ray's arms.
Before the raindrops even fell, the surviving little creatures huddled in small groups under the large leaves that provided shelter from the rain.
They watched their companions turn into specks of light and disappear one by one, without any expression. Then, those who remained alive gathered again into new small groups.
On the way home, Lai kept his head down and didn't say a word, while Tata remained in the same position, lying on Lai's arm.
Although the time spent together was short, witnessing the passing of a life always leaves one feeling uneasy, especially when it's such a precious little one.
Lai silently cleaned up the herbs, while Tata listlessly stayed in her little nest, resting her chin on the edge of the basket and watching Lai's movements.
The light rain outside the window gradually turned into a continuous mist.
A single autumn rain brings a chill, the air becoming damp and breezy. Lai skillfully lit the fireplace. The small flames burned brighter and brighter, gradually dispelling the chill brought by the autumn rain.
Such a life is rare; with enough to eat and wear, and plenty of food, one can light a small fire anytime to keep warm when it's cold. Time seems to slow down, bringing a profound sense of peace to Lai's heart.
"It's getting cold again. Let's make some stewed meat and some noodles tonight."
"Okay. Lei, the beast wants noodles today too."
"good."
Tata glanced at Lei in surprise; he wasn't usually this easy to talk to.
"The broth isn't too strong in flavor, so you can eat it too."
"Thank you, Lei."
The little monster's polite thanks surprised Lai Yi; it seemed the little monster was in a bad mood today.
This strange atmosphere continued until bedtime.
The rain had stopped for a long time, but the cold air it brought continued to linger in the air.
Lai put away the thin blanket he had used in the summer; it had become tattered when Ryan hatched, but Lai had always used it.
The thin blanket was replaced with a quilt, and the little monster jumped onto Laiyi's bed, finding a comfortable spot to lie down.
Even Ryan didn't leave, choosing to stay by the warm fireplace in the living room, perhaps afraid that the rain from the tree might accidentally wet its clothes.
The glass lamp was turned off, plunging the bedroom into darkness.
"Ray."
"Um?"
"The meat soup was delicious today, and it was so warming."
"Um."
A while later.
"Ray, are you asleep?"
"No."
"The beast is still a little sad; the beast misses Big Yellow."
"well."
Lai sighed and tucked the little monster into the blankets.
"Go to sleep, it will all be over when you wake up tomorrow."
"Um."

Inside the Kako Inn, on a floor where no one was allowed to set foot, the necromancer Seral cherished his beloved toy.
—It was a skeleton that exuded a cold white and icy aura.
His palm slid over every bone inch by inch, the movement exuding an eerie and ambiguous atmosphere.
Serar's breathing became somewhat rapid.
"Say something, please. Don't always ignore me like this."
The voice was deep, like the whispers of lovers.
"abnormal."
The sound was transmitted through a magical artifact, carrying a metallic chill.
Serar chuckled softly.
"Shudun, Shudun..."
Seral turned its skull and kissed it.
The soul fire in the skull's empty eye sockets flickered violently for a moment, then quickly subsided.
