Chapter 1: Neil Awakens, Doctor Black, Magic...

Chapter 1: Neil Awakens, Doctor Black, Magic...

"Brother... I... got hit today..."

In a daze, Jianyi heard voices, and at the same time, a series of dull pains came from his brain.

"Brother, Dick and the others laughed at me for being an orphan, but I beat them up today. Aunt Linda baked rye bread with berries today, it was absolutely delicious!"

Neil's incessant nagging, coupled with his headache, was driving Jianyi to distraction.

He struggled to open his eyes and vaguely saw a small, thin figure sitting by the bed.

"Brother, you must try this when you wake up. Brother, when will you wake up?"

Neil's voice gradually turned dejected.

"Shut up."

Jianyi struggled to make a sound, feeling as if he had swallowed a piece of burning coal; his dry throat made him feel uncomfortable.

He clearly remembered dying in a horde of zombies in the apocalypse, so why could he still make a sound?

The moment darkness fell, he felt as if he were drowning in seawater, unable to breathe.

A faint green light flickered above. He swam desperately toward the light, then fell into a coma. When he opened his eyes again, it was now.

Neil stared at Jianyi on the bed in surprise, as if he were seeing him for the first time, and then large tears streamed down his cheeks.

"Brother? Brother, you're finally awake! You've been lying in bed for a month."

"Water." The pronunciation was simple and difficult.

Neil immediately poured a glass of warm water, held Jianyi's head, and fed it to him, which made his throat feel a little better.

"Brother, lie down for a while, I'll go get you something to eat."

Neil carefully put him down and ran off.

As dusk approached, sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow into the somewhat dilapidated house. The sound of a fire could be heard outside.

Jianyi observed this medieval-style place with some wariness.

There were no familiar modern appliances, nor were there any electric lights.

The room contained only a table, a few wooden stools, and two large wooden crates.

On the wooden table sat a roughly made earthenware jar and two cups of the same shape, while a half-used candle was crookedly stuck in the candlestick next to it.

This is a family that is not very wealthy.

Jianyi was certain that he had never been here in the past thirty years and did not know the dark-skinned, thin boy.

He struggled to sit up, but his body wouldn't obey him.

What exactly happened?

Staring blankly at his body, he saw no calluses on his hands from countless battles, his hands were clean and white without a single wound, and there were no hideous scars on his arms.

A cold sweat instantly broke out on my back.

This doesn't look like his body!

But he seems to have his own consciousness...

The answer was obvious, and Jianyi calmed himself down.

Having experienced the apocalypse, possessed superpowers, and witnessed all sorts of incredible things, the so-called soul transmigration doesn't seem like a big problem.

"Brother, are you still awake?"

Jianyi looked at Neil, who was carefully carrying a bowl of mixed grain porridge to the bedside.

"Brother, let me feed you."

Not knowing the situation yet, Jianyi didn't want to come into contact with any strangers.

He refused Neil's offer and scooped up the porridge and swallowed it little by little.

Neil stared intently at Jianyi.

It's good that they can eat. Many elderly people in the village are sick and can't eat, and eventually their health collapses and they die.

Their parents died unexpectedly six months ago, leaving him with only his older brother as a relative. Neil truly doesn't know what to do if his brother remains in a coma.

"Brother, does your head still hurt?"

"Brother, I'll go see Dr. Blake tomorrow and ask him to treat you again."

Neil continued talking to himself, it didn't matter to him whether Jian Yi replied or not.

"Brother, would you like some more?"

Simple shook his head, and Neil took the bowl and placed it in the outer room.

The sun was setting in the west, and the room was already dim, with only the outlines of things barely visible.

Neil lit a candle, quickly tidied himself up, took off his shoes, jumped onto the bed, and wrapped himself tightly in the blanket.

Jianyi really wanted to refuse to share a bed with him, but seeing how happy he was, she couldn't bring herself to say it.

“Brother, your wound got infected and you had a high fever before. Dr. Blake said you might not make it through. I was so scared.”

Neil let out a soft sigh of relief and continued his story.

"Later, I found a wood-elemental stone in my mother's small box, which barely brought your fever down."

“Your wound hasn’t been healing well. It only started to show signs of healing after that fever. But you’ve remained unconscious. They all say you’ve damaged your brain and may never wake up again.”

Neil stared intently at Jian Yi, as if he might disappear in the blink of an eye.

He spoke haltingly and stiffly, not yet fully accustomed to the change in role.

"I feel great now, you don't need to worry."

"Um!"

"Brother, you'll get better, right? You'll definitely get better!"

Neil yawned as he answered his own question, and began to recount the various events that had occurred during the month he had been in a simple coma.

The flying insects circled around the candle flame, leaving flickering shadows on the wall. His voice gradually weakened, eventually turning into a soft snore.

Jianyi looked out the window at the two moons hanging high in the night sky. In the distance, the shadowy branches of trees swayed, and animals howled softly.

What a vibrant world this is...

There were no zombies, and no mutated plants.

A stranger was sleeping next to him, and Jian Yi was prepared to stay up all night.

But the rustling of the wind through the branches was like a lullaby, and coupled with physical exhaustion and dizziness, he gradually fell into a deep sleep.

When I woke up again, the sun was already high in the sky, and Neil was nowhere to be found.

The blanket he had slept on had been neatly folded, and the room appeared to have been tidied up simply.

He is a child with very good living habits.

As Jian Yi thought this, he squinted at the sky and thankfully there was only one sun hanging in the sky.

Outside was a courtyard surrounded by a low stone wall, beyond which lay a large open space and a very tall tree. The chirping of birds echoed outside the window.

Footsteps approached, and Jian Yi's eyes suddenly sharpened as he shot towards the door.

"Brother! I'm back with Dr. Blake!"

Neil strode into the room carrying a large suitcase and slammed it down on the wooden table. A middle-aged man in a white shirt followed him in.

Jian Yi observed him discreetly, while Blake also watched Jian Yi's state.

"Dr. Black, my brother's head still seems to be hurting a bit."

Neil poured a glass of water for Blake, stood obediently by the makeshift bed, helped him sit up, and thoughtfully placed a pillow behind his back.

Blake sat on the wooden stool and took a sip of water.

"Ray, congratulations on waking up. Last time I came, little Neil was crying like a little cat."

Blair looked at Neil with a mocking expression, received a glare from him, and shrugged.

Jianyi then learned the original owner's name. Having inherited his body, it seemed he should also inherit the name "Laiyi".

"Ray, can you describe how much pain it causes?"

"I feel a bit dizzy and have a dull ache."

"Um."

Blake nodded, walked to the bedside, and reached out to touch Ray's forehead.

Ray frowned, trying to dodge, but a warm sensation came from Blake's palm, easing the dizziness in his head and eliminating the dull pain that had accompanied him since waking up yesterday.

Healing abilities?!

Ray was a little puzzled, but from Neil's calm eyes, it seemed that superpowers also existed in this world.

What kind of place did he end up in?

Alright, Blake lowered his right hand, and a faint flash of light could be seen.

Are you feeling better?

Blake smiled as he looked at Rye.

"Much better."

"You suffered a serious head injury, but thankfully you have woken up safely. There may be some aftereffects."

Blake pointed to his head.

"It seems you've recovered most of the way. You'll need to rest more in the future. I'll leave you some medicine to relieve the dizziness; just take it all."

Blake opened the wooden crate, which was filled with bottles and jars of various colors. He rummaged through it for a while and pulled out two bottles of medicine.

"Twice a day, one spoonful each time."

Neil carefully tucked the medicine into his pocket, nodding vigorously. Then he pulled a small bag from his pants pocket, emptied its contents into his palm, picked out a few shiny silver coins from a dozen or so brownish-yellow coins, and handed them to Blake.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Blake took the silver coin, his smile becoming even more genuine.

Neil saw Blair off, and after a while, he returned to the room with a spoon, handed the medicine to Ray, and told him to take it.

While accepting the medicine, Lei discreetly gathered information.

"What did Dr. Blake use to treat me? I felt much better as soon as he touched my forehead."

"Brother, are you talking about magic?"

magic......

When talking about Magician, his eyes started to sparkle, and his face showed the innocence and naivety that a child should have.

"The village doctor couldn't cure your illness. That night you had a high fever, so I begged Uncle Hagrid to take me to town to find a doctor. Uncle Hagrid brought Dr. Black back with him."

“Dr. Black’s hands glow. I asked Uncle Hagrid and he told me that this doctor has magic and can heal you.”

"What kind of magic does he use?"

"It seems to be a wood element."

Neil scratched his head and tucked his overly long bangs behind his ears.

"Brother, I'll go get you something to eat."

After listening to Neil's words, Ray fell into deep thought.

In the third year of the apocalypse, he awakened his wood-based superpower. Although it was somewhat useless, it was better than nothing; at least he could accelerate the growth of seeds.

This world possesses magic; could he possibly assume that his own superpowers could also be used here?

Lei drank the same multigrain porridge he had last night, thinking about trying to activate his powers when no one was around. But for him right now, the most important thing was to get out of this bed.

After eating, Ray seemed to have regained some strength. Neil, unable to persuade him otherwise, helped him slowly stand up.

He refused Neil's offer to continue supporting him as he walked, and instead, he slowly made his way outside, holding onto the wall. Neil followed behind him like a little shadow, worried about him.

Lai walked out of the bedroom, through the living room, and finally arrived in the yard.

It must have been early summer, and everything around was lush and green.

They lived in a two-story house built of stones and wood, and the roof on the second floor looked dilapidated, perhaps because of something that had happened to it.

I'd make a simple bet: if it rains, the second floor will definitely leak.

The yard was full of weeds, and the low stone wall he saw last night was missing many stones and was crooked.

"Brother, are you tired?"

Before Ray could answer, Neil ran back into the house and brought out a recliner with a backrest, placing it in a shady spot while looking at him expectantly.

Left with no other option, Ray had to sit on it.

Getting some sunshine is good too.

Neil was like a busy little bee, fetching a blanket and water, and finally quieted down when Lai closed his eyes.

A note from the author:

----------------------

I wanted to read a story where the protagonist seriously farms, but either they'd switch gears midway through to fall in love, or they'd get involved in business or take the imperial examinations. After starting to write this story, I realized that purely farming would be quite boring, so the protagonist will also do other things besides farming.

I have tens of thousands of words saved up. I hope you all enjoy this story. Please add it to your favorites and leave comments!
