Chapter 12
Xu Zhao came over with the breakfast he had bought. When he saw Jiang Suihan sitting on a stool drying her hair, he was stunned for a moment, then looked away, put the breakfast on the table and opened the lunch box.
Jiang Suhan didn't tie her hair up because it wasn't completely dry yet. She walked with her hair loose to see what he bought. There were steamed buns, rice noodles and soy milk. The steamed buns were big meat buns, and there were 5 of them. The rice noodles were fried with eggs and chopped green onions. It was a full box of food and looked very appetizing.
She turned back to the kitchen to get the dishes and chopsticks, and her movements were a bit rough, so her hair accidentally hit Xu Zhao.
Xu Zhao smelled the scent of Jiang Suihan's long hair at the tip of his nose, a faint fragrance, a bit like orchid. When he wanted to smell it carefully, the person had already walked away. He moved his right fingers on the side of his leg calmly.
Jiang Leyun greeted Xu Zhao, and Xu Zhao brought him a meat bun.
The meat bun is very big and still hot. It sinks when you pinch it hard, but bounces back quickly when you let go.
Jiang Leyun held it with both hands and took a bite. He didn't feel the meat in the first bite, but when he took another bite, he tasted the meat and gravy. He squinted his eyes happily and sat on the stool, swinging his legs back and forth.
As he ate, he commented: "This is the best meat bun I've ever had!"
Jiang Suihan divided the rice noodles into portions. She had half a bowl, considering that the child didn't have a big appetite, so a meat bun and half a bowl of rice noodles should be enough. She left the rest of the rice noodles for Xu Zhao.
Jiang Leyun looked at the half bowl of rice noodles in front of him, then looked at Xu Zhao's portion, and instantly felt what bias was. He pouted and said, "I want more. Half a bowl of noodles is not enough. Sister, you are biased."
Jiang Suihan's face turned red in an instant, and she said angrily, "How am I biased? I'm just worried that you won't finish the food and it will be wasted. Children shouldn't talk while eating, or they won't grow taller."
A meat bun is almost as big as his face. A meat bun plus half a bowl of rice noodles should be enough for him.
Jiang Leyun obviously didn't believe it: "You are lying. I am not a three-year-old child anymore. You can't fool me. Every time you can't convince me, I always say that I won't grow taller in the future. I will definitely grow taller than you in the future."
Jiang Suihan: "Then wait until you grow taller. Eat first, and then have more if it's not enough."
Xu Zhao watched the siblings bickering with interest, and took two chopsticks of rice noodles from his lunch box and put them into Jiang Leyun's bowl: "Is this enough?"
Jiang Leyun grinned: "That's enough, I can finish it."
Xu Zhao looked at Jiang Suihan: "Do you want more?"
Jiang Huihan shook her head: "It's ok, there are still buns. I have a small appetite and can't eat so much. You eat more."
Xu Zhao ate very quickly and attentively. Jiang Huihan and Jiang Leyun couldn't help but be attracted by his gaze. They stared at him in a daze for a while as he devoured the food on the table.
Xu Zhao looked up: "Why don't you eat?"
Jiang Leyun blurted out: "Watch you eat."
Jiang Suihan really wanted to cover her face. This child is too honest.
Xu Zhao explained: "I'm used to it in the army. Sometimes I have to rush for a mission and don't have time to eat slowly."
The army emphasizes speed and efficiency. Time waits for no one, and this is how everyone trains themselves to eat quickly.
Jiang Suihan: "Eating too fast is not easy to digest and is bad for the body."
Xu Zhao: "Well, I will try to slow down next time."
When Jiang Huihan and Jiang Leyun finished eating, there was still one bun left. Xu Zhao asked, "Are you all full?"
The two nodded, and he picked up the bun and ate it in two or three bites. His speed was a little slower than before, but still faster than an ordinary person. Jiang Suihan thought that he might not be full.
She heard that soldiers are big eaters. She secretly glanced at Xu Zhao's belly, but couldn't see any changes. However, if he lifted his clothes, she should be able to see abdominal muscles, but she didn't know how many there were.
This time, Xu Zhao did not rush to wash the dishes. The rice noodles were a bit choking, so Jiang Suihan poured everyone a glass of water and went to the kitchen to wash the dishes.
No children nearby were willing to play with Jiang Leyun, as they thought he was from a bad family. The little guy didn't want to be disliked, so he would rather hide at home and play alone. He ran back to his room, took out a tattered comic book, spread it on the ground, and read it page by page.
He brought this comic book from home. Jiang's father bought him a complete set as a birthday present when he was six years old. Later, when their house was searched, someone wanted to snatch it away. In the struggle, the comic book was torn apart, so only one of them was left.
The stool with a broken leg was repaired by Xu Zhao. Jiang Suihan sat on the stool and slowly drank water from the only glass jar in the house.
Xu Zhao was sitting next to her and suddenly asked her, "How have you thought about it?"
Jiang Huihan was silent for a few seconds before answering: "I promise you."
She thought about this decision for a whole night. Leaving with Xu Zhao was the wisest choice. Staying in Mingjiang City would be in danger and she might not know when she would die. On the surface, there were plots by her aunt and Qin Rongguang, but it was unclear what other conspiracies and intrigues were hidden in secret.
Jiang Suihan didn't dare to look down on anyone of this era. She couldn't imagine how dark this period of history was. She couldn't rely on luck and naively think that she was very powerful and could defeat those bad guys. She was an ordinary person who grew up under the red flag. She didn't have the confidence in her mind and means.
There are still several years before the unrest ends, and the city will only become more and more chaotic, with more and more evil spirits popping up. The Jiang family only has her and Jiang Leyun, who have no power or influence, and yet have to bear such an identity. If they are harmed by others, they have no place to seek justice.
Take yesterday's incident for example. She was a weak woman. If Xu Zhao had not arrived in time, and Qin Rongguang had wanted to force himself on her, she might not have been able to escape unscathed.
Compared to the city, the army is the safest. With Xu Zhao's status as the guardian, those people should not dare to do anything to them.
Xu Zhao looked at Jiang Suihan steadily: "Have you really decided?"
Marriage is a major event in life and should not be taken lightly. He hopes that Jiang Suihan will think it through and not do anything impulsive that she will regret in the future.
Jiang Suihan pursed her lips: "Confirmed and certain."
She is a rather conflicted person, but mostly she is conflicted beforehand. If she makes up her mind to do something, she will complete it seriously and not give herself the chance to regret. No matter what the result is, the choice is her own.
Besides, with Xu Zhao's conditions, marrying him was a great advantage for her, and she should be the one asking him if he would regret it.
"With our family's current situation, will marrying me have any impact on your future?"
Xu Zhao said with certainty: "No."
In fact, there will still be some impact, but it's not a big problem. He has accumulated a lot of military merits over the years and was promoted too quickly. He has already attracted the attention of some people and blocked the way of some people. According to his father's opinion, he can wait for two or three years and there is no need to rush.
The outside world has been in chaos in recent years, and he is aware of this situation. However, the army is relatively stable and has not been greatly affected.
He had considered that if Jiang Suihan did not agree to get married and was unwilling to leave Mingjiang City, he would do his best to help her resolve the issues here and give the Jiang family some money, which would be considered a favor between the two families.
Jiang Huihan held her chin with one hand and stared at Xu Zhao, and asked a very stupid question: "Will you be nice to me?"
Xu Zhao replied solemnly and seriously: "I promise you as a soldier that I will be loyal to you, protect you, and treat you well for the rest of my life, just like I am to my country."
Jiang Suihan thought that it was unnecessary to put herself on the same level as the country. She was very self-aware and she could not compare with the country.
However, she was quite satisfied with this answer and felt sweet inside.
"Then will you listen to me?" Jiang Suihan continued to ask questions.
Xu Zhao didn't give a perfunctory answer. His expression was a little tangled. He thought for a second before saying, "If you have a point, then I will listen. If you are being unreasonable and making trouble, then I will talk to you properly."
As if realizing that his answer was too blunt, he added: "I may not be able to listen to everything you say, but I will try my best and I will listen to what I should listen to."
That is words that he should not hear, and he will refuse to listen.
He is really a principled person and never does things perfunctorily for others.
Jiang Huihan said unhappily, "Do you know that it's easy to be single if you answer like that?"
Such a straight-forward answer is consistent with his style and is expected.
Fortunately, she is not the kind of person who likes to make trouble. Otherwise, after hearing such an answer, she would definitely make trouble to the end, asking him to promise to be absolutely obedient, and even set three rules. No matter what his girlfriend does or says, it is right, and she will not accept any rebuttal.
Xu Zhao frowned slightly. He had been in the army for many years and had no experience in getting along with female comrades. Jiang Huihan pursed her lips and glared at him. She looked angry and had no momentum at all.
He hesitated: "Are you angry?"
Jiang Suihan wrinkled her nose at him: "No, I'm not angry. What's there to be angry about? What you said makes sense. Why should I be angry? If I'm angry, doesn't it mean that I'm unreasonable?"
Getting angry with a straight guy will only make yourself angry. She knew that Xu Zhao was right. No one would be so unprincipled as to always listen to another person. What she wanted was not good words from him, but an attitude.
Listening to the words and the tone, he is definitely angry.
Xu Zhao was not good at coaxing people, so he stiffly changed the subject: "Anything going on the day after tomorrow?"
Jiang Suihan didn't know what he was going to do, so she asked him, "I'm a very idle person. I don't have to go to school or work. What can I do? If you have something to do, go do your thing first. I don't have anything to do here."
Xu Zhao said suddenly, "Then let's go get the marriage certificate together the day after tomorrow. The sooner we get things done, the earlier we can leave."
Before leaving, he specially signed a marriage application report with Political Commissar Zhou. Special matters should be handled specially, and if nothing unexpected happens, the application should be sent to Mingjiang City in the next two days.
"No? Why are you in such a hurry? I, I'm not ready yet." Jiang Huihan was a little worried. Although she decided to go with Xu Zhao, getting married felt a little abrupt.
the day after tomorrow? If you count carefully, it only took two days.
The two had only met once, and it wasn't even this fast even though they were on a blind date.
Is this military speed?
