Chapter 72

Chapter 72

It was almost five in the afternoon and the sky was getting dark. Jiang Huihan was torn between going home to eat first and then bringing food to Xu Zhao, or waiting a little longer as perhaps her mother-in-law was already on her way to the hospital.

Xu Zhao glanced at Jiang Suihan and said, "Go eat first. You don't need to come over in the evening. The nurse is here. Let my mother bring dinner over."

Jiang Suihan didn't say anything. Seeing his expression was a little strange, she asked, "What's wrong with you? Did your wound split open again?"

Xu Zhao's face flashed with embarrassment. He tried his best, but couldn't help but said, "I drank too much milk. I want to go to the toilet."

I drank two large glasses of milk and then half a glass of water. My bladder was about to explode.

Jiang Suihan blushed and glared at him: "If you want to go to the bathroom, just go. Why are you telling me?"

Xu Zhao suddenly felt tired. Did she forget that he had just had surgery last night and still had injuries on his body?

"Go outside and get someone to help me. I want a man."

Jiang Huihan slapped her head in annoyance and secretly complained to herself that pregnancy really makes women stupid for three years. She even forgot such an important thing. She felt a little sad and worried that such things would continue in the future.

At this time, people in the hospital were either having dinner or busy with other things. There were few people in the corridor. There were female nurses, but no male doctors.

Jiang Suihan looked around outside but still couldn't find anyone, so she went back, hesitated for a few seconds, and then said, "Let me do it."

Xu Zhao's eyes fell on her, seeming a little hesitant.

Jiang Suihan got angry instantly and complained, "You're disgusted when I help you? Hurry up, I'm hungry, it's not like I haven't seen it before."

In fact, she didn't think it was a big deal at first, it was just a very common thing, but seeing Xu Zhao's shy and awkward look, she reflected on whether she was too reckless and lacked the reserve that a girl should have?

The corner of Xu Zhao's mouth twitched. Okay, she didn't feel embarrassed, so there was no need for him, a grown man, to be shy.

The toilet is at the end of the corridor, about five or six minutes' walk away.

Jiang Suihan pulled Xu Zhao's arm and put it on her shoulder. Xu Zhao tried his best not to press on her. After two months of good food and drink, she was a little fatter than before, but still looked a little thin.

Fortunately, there was no one in the bathroom, but Jiang Huihan couldn't help blushing. She held her breath the whole time and tried not to open her eyes. After they were done, they returned to the ward and helped Xu Zhao lie down.

Without giving him a chance to speak, she hurriedly said, "I'm hungry. I'm going to eat. I'll bring you some food later."

As soon as he finished speaking, he ran away with a red face.

"Sui Sui." Su Ying hurriedly called Jiang Suihan, walked up quickly, and said anxiously and worriedly, "I saw the note you left, saying that Xu Zhao was injured and hospitalized. How is he? Is he okay? Is his injury serious?"

When she got home, she found no one at home. She thought Jiang Huihan might have gone out for a walk. When she was pouring water, she saw a note on the table in the living room. She moved the cup away, picked up the note and looked at it. Su Ying was almost scared to death. Her legs went weak and she had to support herself on the table with her hands to avoid falling down.

He didn't even drink the water, hurriedly closed the door, rode his bike to the hospital, and just after parking the bike and walking to the door, he saw Jiang Huihan coming out of the hospital.

Jiang Suihan said hurriedly, "He had an operation last night and it was very successful. The doctor asked him to stay in the hospital for a few days for observation. He will be discharged if he recovers well. Don't worry too much, mom. I'll take you to see him now."

Hearing that the situation was okay, Su Ying felt relieved a little, but she was still worried because she couldn't see the person in person.

"Why are you back again?" Xu Zhao looked up and saw Jiang Huihan, and asked subconsciously, and then his mother followed in.

Su Ying walked straight past Jiang Huihan, went to the bed, lifted the quilt on Xu Zhao, and looked at him from head to toe, from toe to head, without missing any part of his body, until she was sure that he was fine, and then she slowly let out the anger she had been holding back at home.

After covering her son with the quilt again, Su Ying finally had the heart to look at her son's face. Seeing two light pink wounds on his handsome face, she couldn't help but frowned: "It's ugly."

The corners of Xu Zhao's mouth twitched involuntarily. Only a mother would say such words.

He looked at his mother helplessly: "Mom, I am a wounded soldier after all, can you please not attack me personally as soon as we meet?"

Su Ying turned her head and looked at Jiang Suihan: "Sui Sui, do you think he has become uglier?"

Jiang Suihan nodded sincerely. The wound had already scabbed over and fallen off, leaving only two long light pink scars. They might not be visible after two or three months of recovery.

Just like a fine vase with a shallow crack on it, although it does not affect the beauty very much, it still has an impact. Especially for people with obsessive-compulsive disorder, they can't stand defective things around them.

When she came to the hospital in the afternoon, Jiang Huihan saw an old wound on Xu Zhao's face. She really wanted to touch it, but she couldn't show it, for fear that Xu Zhao would think she was weird. She tried hard not to look at his face so that she wouldn't keep staring at his face.

Su Ying carefully examined the two light scars on Xu Zhao's face, her frown still not relaxing: "The wound doesn't look very deep, it shouldn't leave a scar, right?"

Jiang Suihan had no idea about this and said uncertainly, "Maybe it will be gone after a while. As long as you don't have a scar-prone constitution, it shouldn't be a big problem."

Su Ying sighed with regret: "What a handsome face, ah, it's a pity to look at it."

Jiang Suihan nodded in agreement and said subconsciously, "Yeah, what a pity."

To be honest, when she agreed to get married with Xu Zhao, his face played a big role. The term "invisible face control" best describes her.

Xu Zhao felt a dull pain in his wound. He was angry at the two women at home and said weakly, "Have you said enough? I'm hungry."

After a while of joking, the atmosphere in the ward became much more relaxed.

Su Ying made the decision directly: "I won't cook tonight. I'll go home and get my lunch box to go to the cafeteria to get food. Sui Sui, do you want to go home to eat or stay in the hospital with Xu Zhao?"

"I'll stay in the hospital with him. Mom, please help me check if Lele has returned home, and keep his portion of the meal for yourself." Jiang Suihan thought for a moment, then quickly shook her head, "No, I'm worried about leaving him at home."

She thought about going home first and visiting Xu Zhao tomorrow. There were nurses in the hospital anyway, and Xu Zhao could call the nurses for help if anything happened. However, on second thought, she was not so reassured. There were only a few nurses on duty, and they were busy. People tend to get sleepy at night, and if something urgent happened, no one might come even if she called for a long time.

Su Ying saw Jiang Huihan's dilemma and suggested, "I can take Lele with me on my bike, that would solve the problem."

She thought to herself, what's the point of fussing over this?

Jiang Suihan looked listless: "Do you think I've become stupid?"

Xu Zhao replied calmly: "No, you're overthinking. You're just tired and don't want to bother thinking."

Jiang Suihan immediately sat up straight and glared at him: "You are lying. What you just said was clearly a roundabout way of saying that I am stupid. How dare you say it's not true?"

Xu Zhao remained silent.

Jiang Suihan held her chin with both hands and asked him, "Do you think I will give birth to a little fool?"

Xu Zhao glanced at her and saw that her brows were furrowed, her lips were pursed, and her eyelids were drooping, hiding the former brilliance in her eyes. She looked like she was thinking hard and was very sad.

That's not a problem!

Xu Zhao sighed silently, and had to cheer up and said seriously: "No."

Jiang Huihan was determined to get to the bottom of it and continued to think divergently: "How do you know it won't happen? Everything has a one in ten thousand chance. If, I mean if I really gave birth to a stupid little kid, would you dislike him for not being as smart as other children? Would you feel disappointed?"

Xu Zhao didn't take the bait and found another unexpected entry point: "Not smart and stupid are almost equivalent. These two words should not be used together."

Jiang Suihan said "oh" and looked a little embarrassed. She taught Chinese to fourth and fifth graders, and she didn't even notice such an obvious mistake in word usage!

Well, Xu Zhao was right, she was too lazy to use her brain lately.

Xu Zhao secretly breathed a sigh of relief, luckily he managed to get away with it.

At night, my mother-in-law stayed in the hospital to keep watch, so Jiang Huihan and Jiang Leyun walked home and left their bicycles in the hospital so they were not afraid of them being stolen.

Tomorrow is Chinese New Year and today is New Year’s Eve.

The doctor routinely checked Xu Zhao's wound and said, "You have recovered well. You can go and get discharged. Remember not to do strenuous exercise and eat a light diet. Don't eat spicy food, which can easily stimulate wound healing. Come back for a checkup in a week."

Su Ying said seriously: "Don't worry, Doctor Liang, I will keep a close eye on him."

Jiang Suihan also said, "Thank you, Dr. Liang."

Doctor Liang smiled, as if his seriousness just now was just an illusion: "You got hurt at a bad time this time. There are so many delicious foods during the Chinese New Year. Xu Zhao, you can only watch others eat."

Xu Zhao changed his clothes and sat beside the bed. Hearing this, he raised his eyelids and said calmly, "Aren't you alone during the New Year this year? Did someone make you something delicious?"

The smile on Dr. Liang's face froze for a moment, then quickly returned to normal. He turned to Su Ying and said, "Aunt Su, you must remember that Xu Zhao must eat a light diet, avoid eating too much meat and fish, and avoid fried or spicy food if possible."

Su Ying regarded Dr. Liang's words as an imperial decree and nodded, saying, "I will definitely follow the doctor's advice. I won't let him eat any of the fried meatballs, radish balls, or fried crispy corners that we make at home. Can he eat the braised pork?"

Doctor Liang stretched out his fingers to push up the glasses on his nose and said calmly, "It's a bit greasy."

But it didn’t say whether I could eat it.

Su Ying thought she understood what Dr. Liang meant: "Okay, then don't give him the medicine."

Xu Zhao's face turned green, and he gave Dr. Liang a look that seemed nonchalant but actually contained a threat.

Dr. Liang shrugged nonchalantly.

Xu Zhao didn't have much stuff, so he didn't need to pack. The hospital was not busy during the New Year, so Dr. Liang sent them to the hospital entrance.

Su Ying stopped and asked Dr. Liang with a smile: "Xiao Liang, do you have time to have dinner at home tonight?"

Doctor Liang: "No, Aunt Su, my colleague has to take leave for an emergency at home. I'm on duty for him tonight and can't leave."

When Su Ying heard that Dr. Liang was busy, she didn't force him: "Okay, next time you are free, remember to come to our house and sit down. Don't be polite to Auntie. Your eldest brother and sister-in-law are not here, and you are alone here, busy with work, and there is no one around you who cares about you. I feel sorry for your parents when I see you."

Dr. Liang couldn't stand the nagging of elders, so he hurriedly said, "I will definitely go when I have time. I have something else to do, so I'll leave first."

Su Ying sighed and opened her mouth to continue speaking, but Dr. Liang turned around and ran back to the hospital.

Seeing Jiang Suihan stamping her feet due to the cold, Xu Zhao helped her pull up her scarf a little, and then put her hands in his coat pockets: "Are you still cold?"

Jiang Huihan took a breath and said, "It's cold."

Su Ying turned her head, a little speechless. They were still clinging to each other in such a cold day. If they were cold, they should just leave. Wouldn’t they feel cold if they hugged each other?

The New Year is approaching, and the family compound is very lively. There are children's laughter everywhere and fragrance in every household. Some daughters-in-law are hardworking and get up early to show their skills in the kitchen. Many delicious dishes are brought out of the kitchen, and the children's mouths never stop eating.

I pray silently in my heart, hoping that every day from now on will be Chinese New Year.

When they got home, before Jiang Huihan had time to take off her scarf, Jiang Leyun handed her a letter: "A letter from Sister Wei Yu."

Did Wei Yu send a letter?
