Chapter 2

Chapter 2

After drinking a large glass of water, Jiang Suihan felt that her smoking throat was much better. Seeing Jiang Leyun looking at her eagerly, the child obediently took the enamel cup and put it on the table next to her.

She coughed lightly: "Who sent me to the hospital?"

"It was Grandma Lin who helped. When I came back, I saw my sister lying on the ground with blood all over her head. I was so scared that I ran outside to call for help. Grandma Lin was the best. She even asked another aunt to help take my sister to the hospital. Grandma Lin also helped pay for the medical expenses."

Jiang Leyun held Jiang Suihan's hand, looked at the bandaged wound on her sister's head, and her pale face showed fear: "Sister, you have to get better soon. I will try my best to grow up quickly. When I grow up, I will protect you and stop those bad guys from bullying you. I will beat up anyone who bullies you."

He clenched his right fist, pretending to be vicious, and added: "Beat him to death."

When he saw his sister lying on the ground with blood all over her head and face, he was so scared that his legs went weak. He put his trembling hands under his sister's nose to check her breath, and when he saw that she was still alive, he ran out in panic and called for help.

Fortunately, God was kind to him and did not let his sister go like his father. He was no longer an orphan child without a home or relatives in this world.

Jiang Suihan smiled and tapped the kid's forehead, jokingly saying, "You're still a kid. You don't have the height or strength, and your fists aren't even half the size of others. What can you use to hit others? You're lucky if you don't get hit. Kid, don't think too much. Just grow up healthy and happy. Sister is fine."

The younger brother's love was not in vain, as he was thinking about avenging his sister.

The sound of gurgling interrupted the two people's conversation.

Jiang Leyun lowered his head, holding his stomach with both hands, looking a little embarrassed: "I'm hungry. I didn't mean to cry. It cried on its own."

Then there was another gurgling sound, and the child smiled with some gloating: "It's not my stomach that's growling, you're hungry too."

I've been sleeping for almost a whole day, it would be strange if I wasn't hungry.

Jiang Suihan asked the little guy to call the doctor. The doctor who came was a male doctor in his early forties. After a thorough examination, he said that there was nothing serious. If there were any concerns, he could stay in the hospital for another day or two for observation.

The doctor wanted to say that they had lost a lot of blood and should eat something nutritious to replenish their bodies. However, when he saw that the siblings were dressed very raggedly and there was no adult to take care of them while they were in the hospital, and that the six or seven-year-old brother was always busy running around, he thought that their family's situation might not be very good. He took back the words that were on the tip of his tongue and only reminded them to be careful not to get the wound wet when they returned home, and to rest more and not to overwork.

Grandma Lin had already helped pay the hospital fees. Jiang Suihan was more careful and asked the nurse about the total cost of the hospitalization, which was 16.60 yuan.

Hearing this number, Jiang Leyun had a look of annoyance on his face: "It's so expensive. I only stayed for one day. They are robbing me!"

The nurse looked unhappy and spoke in a harsh tone, but she couldn't get angry with a child: "The gauze is free, the ointment is free, the hospital is not a charity, if you don't want to spend money, don't get sick, if you are sick, don't come to the hospital, you don't have to spend money to wait for death at home."

Perhaps she felt that her tone was not very good, so she continued, "Your sister was lucky this time and was sent to the hospital in time. If the wound was bigger and the bleeding was more, she would have to stay in the hospital for more than one day, and it would cost more money. Human life is more important than money."

Jiang Suihan sincerely apologized to the nurse: "I'm sorry, my brother is young and simple-minded. He just feels sorry for me and is not targeting anyone. Thanks to you, I was able to save my life this time. Thank you so much."

The nurse is not an unreasonable person. The child's sister has come forward to apologize. It is not a big deal and there is no need to hold on to it.

"It's my job. Take these medicines back. The instructions are written on them. The wound on your head is a bit big. It may leave a scar, but it's not certain. Everyone's body is different. It's possible that it will slowly disappear after a while."

The nurse's attitude softened. Looking at Jiang Huihan's pretty face, she secretly said in her heart what a pity. Such a pretty face had such an ugly scar on the forehead. She didn't know which bastard could have the heart to be so cruel to such a beautiful girl.

After leaving the hospital, the child was very quiet all the way.

Jiang Huihan turned her head and glanced at him: "What's wrong? You look so depressed. Who made our little cutie unhappy?"

Jiang Leyun frowned, thinking all the way but still couldn't think of a good solution: "There is no money at home, and we still owe Grandma Lin 16.60 yuan. What should I do in the future?"

Although the little guy is young, he has become much more sensible after experiencing a series of family changes. He knows that his father's illness had cost a lot of money before, and the already poor family was hit even harder. Now he owes a large sum of money for his sister's medical treatment.

It gives me a headache just thinking about how I’m going to pay back so much money.

But he was so worried.

Jiang Suihan patted her brother's head and said, "I'll find a way to deal with the money issue. I told you, kid, don't be sad all the time, or you won't grow tall in the future."

She had just searched her entire pocket and only found one dollar and twenty cents, which was a drop in the bucket compared to the sixteen dollars and sixty cents. She was also worried about money, but she didn't expect that the brother and sister would think of the same thing.

Jiang Leyun curled his lips, with an expression that said you can't fool me: "No way, my father is very tall, and I'm his son, so I won't grow short. Anyway, I will definitely be taller than you in the future."

He is a boy and his sister is a girl. In the future he will definitely be taller than his sister and protect her.

Jiang Leyun took the key from his neck and unlocked the door. Jiang Suihan followed him in. The room was in a mess, as if it had been robbed.

Clothes and quilts were thrown on the ground at random, and black shoe prints could be seen on them. The table and stools were kicked over, and a big hole was smashed in the middle of the wooden bed. Other things were broken into pieces and almost nothing was intact.

The little guy clenched his fists and his face turned red with anger.

Looking at the messy scene in front of her, Jiang Suihan felt her head start to hurt again. On the way, she was still thinking hard about her big plan to make money. It seems that the most important thing now is to clean up this dilapidated house.

Compared to the distressed Jiang Suihan, Jiang Leyun calmed down quickly. He bent down silently and picked up a bowl that had fallen on the ground. It had a small crack on it, but it was still usable.

Their family is very poor now and they can hardly afford to eat. They don't have extra money to buy new bowls, so they keep whatever they can use and don't throw it away.

This is most likely the only bowl in the house that can be used for eating.

Five months ago, he was still a young master who knew nothing about the sorrows of the world. In just a few months, he has come to realize the hardships of life. Looking at the child's ragged clothes full of patches and his dirty little face, Jiang Suihan felt sad.

It is not right to say that a child without parents is just a weed. At least she has an older sister. She will take on the responsibilities of an older sister and try her best to keep herself and her brother alive in this era.

Jiang Leyun picked up the clothes on the ground and brushed off the dust. Suddenly, a yellow envelope fell out. She picked it up and saw that it was written by her father to her sister.

"Sister, this is a letter Dad wrote to you." The child handed over the letter.

Jiang Huihan took the letter, opened it, and shook out a piece of letter paper.

In the letter, Jiang's father talked about how he felt he didn't have much time left and was worried that his two children would have no one to take care of them after his death. He wanted to find a way out for the two siblings, so he tried every means to contact an old friend.

Many years ago, Jiang's father saved that friend's life, and the two had agreed to become in-laws in the future. However, later Jiang's father went abroad to study, and that friend went to work somewhere else. As they moved to different places, one in the south and the other in the north, the two families gradually lost contact.

The letter also mentioned that the friend promised to help, and said that his son was not married and the agreement made that year still stood. He had already written to the friend's son, telling his daughter to wait patiently. If nothing unexpected happened, the friend's son would come to see her in the near future.

After reading the letter, Jiang Suhan looked confused. She needed to think it over carefully. In other words, her father was worried that she and her brother would be bullied after he left, so he found his old friend. Both old fathers had an unmarried child, a boy and a girl. It was simply a fate arranged by God.

So the two old fathers hit it off and decided to get the two children together and get married.

This is indeed a solution to the current dilemma, but the key is that she has never seen her father's friend's son, let alone his appearance, personality, or character.

In her impression, her father was a learned and steady man. He casually betrothed his own daughter to a man he had never met. Such an unreliable behavior did not seem like something he would do.

But why did he tell her in a letter instead of telling her in person? Was he worried that she would develop a rebellious mentality and refuse to listen to her old father?

Everything said in the letter was just one-sided words from Jiang's father. How could he be sure that his friend's son would come? This was just a joke between the two parents many years ago. Besides, given the current situation of the Jiang family, there was no need to drag another person into the quagmire.

Think about it from another perspective. Even if someone is not married, it doesn't mean that they don't have someone they like. It's really not a good idea to match people up randomly.

According to what my father mentioned in the letter, he sent a letter to that person more than two months ago. Now it has been more than two months, almost three months, and I haven’t seen even a shadow of that person. I guess this matter is up in the air.

Jiang Leyun grabbed Jiang Suihan's hand and stood on tiptoe to read the letter: "What did Dad say in the letter?"

Jiang Suihan put the letter away and lied with open eyes, without any psychological burden of lying to children: "Dad didn't say anything special in the letter, he was just worried about us. Okay, stop making trouble, clean up the house quickly, it's a mess, those people are so mean, the dishes are broken."

Jiang Leyun was successfully led astray, and said bitterly: "That's right, it's so bad."

He looked at Jiang Huihan with a bitter face: "It's useless even if there is a bowl. There is no food at home."

The brother and sister looked at each other, and both of us felt depressed.
