Chapter 3 Grandfather
Ling Jinsui felt a little itchy on his face, and when he touched it, he found that his face was already in tears. It seemed that the original owner's obsession still had a great influence on this body.
She didn't feel scared at all. Instead, she felt like someone was with her.
What is certain is that Grandpa Ling is heading north to Yan area, and it has only been a few days since he set out. If she rides her donkey faster, she should be able to catch up with him.
In this era, there were no convenient means of transportation like in later generations, nor so many roads. There was only one official road, and the ferry was fixed.
She was confident that she could dispel the original owner's obsession and allow her to pass away peacefully.
As for her own hope of finding her way home, I'm afraid her hope is slim.
The fire had gone out, the sky was turning pale, and she was starving.
There is no hope for hunting. With her physical condition, she can't even catch a rabbit if it runs past her.
Fortunately, there were plenty of wild vegetables in the mountain stream in early spring. She picked some that she recognized and washed them in the stream.
She roasted it on a burning stone and ate some. Her hunger was not as strong after that and she immediately set off.
When she passed by the town, she didn't dare go in. She took out the smallest piece of silver and bought six whole grain cakes and a bag of carrots at the cake stall outside the town.
The latter was her vitamin supplement and reward for the big blue donkey. The cake was extremely unpalatable, hard as a stone, and mixed with salt mud.
The donkeys kept on walking, but the big blue donkey didn't want to go, so she tempted him with carrots.
It was dark again when she walked. She was already a hundred miles away from Jiangjia Village and passed by a small town. Only then did she dare to enter the town.
I didn’t dare to stay overnight, so I bought a thick blanket and went to the pharmacy to buy some herbs, and made my own powder to repel snakes and insects.
She couldn't finish the salty mud biscuits, so she fed them to the big blue donkey. She also bought some black flour buns and carried them on her back and continued to sleep in the wilderness.
With the blanket, I no longer felt cold, and the cry that seemed to come from my soul no longer sounded.
She walked like this for three days and finally left the territory of Shencheng. Only when she was sure that there were no pursuers behind her did she breathe a sigh of relief.
Once again when she passed by an unknown town, she boldly entered the only inn in the town. If she didn't wash up, she would be disgusted with herself for being so smelly.
I carefully observed the waiter's reaction, and there was nothing unusual. It seemed that neither the old lady's connections nor the government's notices had reached this small town.
In this way, she had the most comfortable sleep since her time travel, even though the bed was hard and musty, and there were bedbugs and rats in the room.
In the morning, she was eating a simple bowl of plain noodles in the hall when she suddenly saw two officials come in, and then the honest-looking waiter pointed at her and said:
"It's her, an orphan girl, without a guide."
Ling Jinsui was shocked. You are such a bad boy with thick eyebrows and big eyes. You called the police without a pass! Wasn't the one-cent reward I gave you last night not enough? You didn't even remind me! It was only then that she discovered the greed mixed in the seemingly honest eyes of the waiter.
This is because he was sure that she was alone, but she carried silver and a valuable big blue donkey with her, so he had evil intentions!
She looked at the doors and windows, heard the bray of a big blue donkey in the backyard, and estimated that it would be unlikely for her to escape by using the same old trick.
The police officers are not as easy to deal with as Jiang Youzhi and the old woman.
She took the initiative and immediately stood up to salute the official, bowed her head and cried:
"Sir, my grandfather is sick, and I just want to go to the city to get him some medicine. I didn't know that I need a pass to enter the town!"
The officer did not scold her, but just said:
"In the past, it was indeed not allowed, but the higher-ups have just issued an order that all single people, regardless of gender, who have no way to be brought into the town must be sent to the county seat."
"Don't worry, we'll send it over for inspection and release it immediately."
Ling Jinsui wasn't sure whether they were arresting her, but she definitely couldn't enter the county town because her identity couldn't stand up to verification.
Her hand slipped, and two pieces of silver from her sleeve fell into her palm. She quietly stuffed them into the hand of an official and pleaded:
"I beg the official to let my daughter go home. My grandfather is still waiting for me to take care of her!"
Then she saw the greed and snickering in the eyes of the official, and her heart sank. She was careless. Don't show off your wealth! To them, the big blue donkey and the silver on her were both a windfall.
Sure enough, although the officer took her money, he said righteously: "How can we not obey the orders from our superiors! Let's go, we'll talk about everything in the county town." After saying that, he was about to pull Ling Jinsui.
When one plan fails, another one comes up. Ling Jinsui covered his stomach and said:
"Wait for my little girl to go to the toilet. The food in this store is not clean."
Perhaps because of the two pieces of silver, the officer allowed it.
The toilet and the backyard are in different directions, so the spiritual big blue donkey can only be left alone for the time being.
While paying attention to the surrounding environment, she secretly hated that she had not met a single good person since she traveled through time! The waiter, who looked honest but had a bad heart, followed her all the way to the toilet, and only left in a hurry when another customer came to the lobby.
He also shouted: "Hurry up! The officer is waiting."
Ling Jinsui hurriedly agreed, and as soon as he left, he immediately climbed over the low wall outside the toilet, followed the wall to the corner like a cat, and climbed over the courtyard wall by stepping on the firewood pile.
He walked quickly out of the town without stopping, not daring to run for fear of attracting more attention.
After leaving the town and seeing fewer people on the road, she dared to run wildly. She ran until she was exhausted and then hid in the woods to catch her breath.
I dare not walk on the main road, so I can only take the mountain paths.
Dusk came again, and luckily I saw a land temple. It seemed that I had to stay here tonight.
Without her blanket and donkey, she was afraid she would freeze to death sleeping in the mountains.
There was only a clay statue of the land and an offering table in the temple. She barely hid under the offering table to avoid the wind, preparing to have a good sleep and then go to a nearby village to buy some clothes and food tomorrow.
In the middle of the night, she suddenly heard crying and laughing. She woke up suddenly and saw flickering lights in the temple. There were at least a dozen people talking in the small old temple.
Ling Jinsui was glad that none of them lifted the old blanket on the tribute table to take a look, otherwise she would have nowhere to hide.
She carefully lifted a corner and looked out, only to see three burly men carrying large swords, eating barbecue and drinking strong liquor.
Behind them was a row of tied-up people, both young and old, who seemed to have been captured on the road.
Those who were tied up kept crying and begging, saying that they would give money if they were released.
The three big men ignored him, as if they were not arresting people for money.
One of them smiled regretfully and said:
"It's a pity that we didn't catch the woman, otherwise we would have had more fun tonight."
Another man suddenly waved his knife at the crowd, scaring them into shrinking into a ball. He pointed the tip of his knife at an old man in a tattered Taoist robe and said, "You old Taoist priest, you should know some magic tricks, right? Perform a few for me to amuse myself."
Ling Jinsui couldn't see the Taoist's appearance clearly, but he could only hear him say in a deep and mellow voice: "The old Taoist can only pray for blessings and tell fortunes, but he can't do magic tricks."
The big man laughed: "Praying for blessings and fortune-telling! Didn't you expect that you would have a disaster today? You are such a liar!"
Ling Jinsui could no longer hear what they were saying because she recognized the voice of the old Taoist priest.
The trembling deep in her soul and the excitement from another soul made her sure that the man was the Grandpa Ling she was looking for.
