Chapter 6 Taoist Priest
Just as Ling Jinsui settled the strange man and turned to leave, his sleeve was suddenly pulled.
She looked down and saw that the man's eyes were trembling under his eyelids, and his right hand pulled her sleeve very forcefully.
Grandpa Ling had already left the reeds, and, unaware of what was going on, he was still whispering, "Hurry, the sound of horse hooves is getting closer."
Jin Sui wanted to pull the sleeve out of the man's hand, but failed after trying twice. She made up her mind and tore off half of the sleeve directly from the shoulder.
He bowed his head again and said to the man, "Take care."
The two of them would probably never have any contact again in this life, and she was just acting according to her conscience as a doctor and couldn't just stand by and watch someone die.
Also, if she behaved too coldly in front of Grandpa Ling, the contrast with the original owner would be too great, and Grandpa Ling would definitely become suspicious.
Ling Jinsui didn't see that when he rushed out of the reeds, the man's eyes just opened a little.
He only saw the graceful figure disappear in the reeds, and did not see the appearance of his savior.
In his right hand he held the half sleeve she had left behind, in his left hand he held a soft pastry, and her words of advice from Zhen Cheng:
'Believe in yourself, you will survive'...
When Jin Sui and Grandpa Ling were carefully escaping along the reeds under the river bank, the police happened to find this place.
Coincidentally, just as they were about to search below the river bank, the sun rose and a group of wild ducks flew out from the reeds.
The officers were sure that there were no Tibetans here, otherwise the wild ducks would have been flying and quacking, so they immediately rode their horses along the official road to chase them.
Hearing the sound of horse hooves fading away, Jin Sui and Grandpa Ling finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Unfortunately, the two men were unlucky and did not encounter any boats after walking along the river bank for a long time.
Fortunately, Jinsui picked up a lot of wild duck eggs in the reeds, and the grandfather and grandson had a full meal.
Jinsui talked about her experiences along the way after leaving Jiangjia Village.
After finishing speaking, I concluded: "How come there are no good people in this world?"
Grandpa Ling also sighed: "It has been a rough few years! There are bandits roaming around even close to the town, and merchants and officials are colluding to harass the people."
"Taxes and levies have increased. Look at this road. It's the spring ploughing season, but there are not many farmers working. There are wastelands everywhere."
"Let's not go into Dazhou City on this journey, and get to Jiangnan as soon as possible."
As they were talking, a small fishing boat appeared on the river. The two men quickly leaned over and hid. Grandpa Ling stretched his head to look at the fishing boat. There was only an old man on the boat casting a net.
He whispered to Jin Sui, "Stay still, Grandpa is going to ask for directions."
Then he straightened his Taoist robe and walked out of the reed marsh.
Jin Sui stared at Grandpa Ling's back while clenching his palms. A familiar burning sensation and colorful spots of light appeared.
She returned to the laboratory again and came in twice, each time hurriedly taking something and leaving.
This time she wanted to feel around carefully, and found that the doors and windows could not be opened, but the things she took away were all restored to their original state. She was instantly overjoyed.
I drank a bottle of mineral water first, then found an inconspicuous thermos cup, put a plastic cover on it, and used it to hold water in the future.
I ate a few more energy bars and regretted not having stocked up on snacks in the lab earlier. Thinking that my assistants loved snacks, I hurried to the tea room to look for some.
Sure enough, I found a box of instant noodles, chocolate, konjac and other snacks.
What made her even more delighted was that in the cleaning room, in addition to cleaning supplies, she also found dishes placed there by the cleaning lady.
I think I bought it before going to work and planned to take it back after get off work.
A bag of potatoes, a bag of sweet potatoes, a bag of fresh peanuts with mud, two tomatoes, a cabbage, and no meat.
What made her happy was not that she could eat these vegetables, but that they could be planted as seeds!
As long as she got rid of the original owner's obsession and sent him to the afterlife, she would be able to settle down with Grandpa Ling and then grow these crops.
As a test, she took out one of the six potatoes to see if she could restore it.
She was just about to go to the bathroom to take a quick shower when suddenly, a colorful circle of light flashed before her eyes. When she opened her eyes, she found herself lying in the reeds, looking at Grandpa Ling's back.
Holding a thermos in one hand and a mashed potato in the other.
She calculated the time silently, ten minutes at most.
I put down the thing in my hand and pressed my palm again. The burning sensation was gone, only the pain of the flesh being pinched.
She didn't panic and planned to try again later.
It seems that there is a time limit for entering the laboratory. There is a long time to go, so you can explore it slowly on your own.
The mere fact that she discovered that the items inside could be restored after use gave her confidence.
Antibiotics are priceless treasures in this era!
After a while, Grandpa Ling came back with a few old clothes that smelled of fish in his hands.
Passed it to Jinsui and said, "Change your clothes to become a boy first, and wait until Grandpa buys you a set of Taoist clothes in town."
Jin Sui was a little surprised. She didn't expect Grandpa Ling to be so accepting and offered to let her dress up as a man.
She had the same idea, and was thinking of persuading Grandpa Ling to go to town to buy men's clothes! She didn't hesitate, and ran into the reeds and took off her coat.
She spread Zheng's old clothes into strips, wrapped her lower chest over her inner garment, changed into brown coarse linen men's clothing, and tied her hair into a high ponytail.
Except for his face being too pale, he looked quite realistic in his costume as a farm boy.
When we came out of the reeds, Grandpa Ling was making a fire and roasting potatoes. He also roasted two fish, which he said he bought from a fisherman.
I found some wood ash and gave it to her:
"Wash your face and neck, make your eyebrows thicker, don't look at people with your eyes wide open, speak in a rough voice, and stand behind me when you meet someone. You can deceive them."
Jin Sui smiled and said, "Grandpa really has quite a bit of experience in the martial arts world."
Grandpa Ling said proudly: "That's how many years Grandpa had been wandering around before he met your grandmother."
Jinsui gave him some anti-inflammatory medicine and asked him to apply some external medicine.
The grandparents and grandchildren ate baked potatoes and grilled fish and finally had a chance to catch their breath.
Grandpa was very surprised when he took a bite of the potato: "I thought it was Pueraria root, this is much more delicious than Pueraria root, where did it come from?"
Jin Sui said calmly, "I found it in the reeds. Unfortunately, it's the only one. It must have been dropped by the fisherman accidentally."
After eating, Jin Sui asked tentatively: "Grandpa, do you know what crime my father committed?"
Grandpa Ling's face instantly turned sad. His only son died at an early age. The pain of seeing a young man die was so heartbreaking that it was unbearable to watch.
After a long while, Grandpa Ling finally sighed and said, "You say it's disrespectful, but your father is a seventh-rank county magistrate, what disrespect could he have committed?"
"Wait until we find your mother and brother, and then ask them in detail."
It seems that Grandpa Ling doesn't know the inside story either.
The reason why Jin Sui wanted to ask clearly was that she could feel that although she had found Grandpa Ling, the original owner's obsession had not disappeared.
In other words, if she wanted the little girl to rest in peace, she had to do something else.
What the little girl cares about is naturally her family and relatives, so she has to find her mother and brother first.
After resting, the two men eliminated their traces in the reeds and walked towards the town along the river bank.
The farmers we met along the way were all pale and thin, with sad expressions and tattered clothes.
The old Taoist priest brought his little Taoist boy, who was also unsophisticated and somewhat conspicuous in the crowd, but the people just glanced at them and no one spoke to them.
