148 Little Mischievous Monkey (Edited)

148 Little Mischievous Monkey (Edited)

"Wow! It's rare to see you two going out together."

They only see each other during holidays; otherwise, they almost never rest at the same time.

"Oh right, right. Good morning, Aunt Bai." Guan Yuehe didn't listen to what Aunt Bai was saying at all. She got into the back seat and patted Lin Yiku on the back. "Let's go!"

Before Lin Yiku started pedaling, she didn't forget to turn around and greet him: "Good morning, Aunt Bai!"

Grandma Bai looked completely bewildered, but without giving it much thought, she continued walking towards the supply and marketing cooperative.

When Guan Yuehe and Lin Yiku arrived at the car factory workers' hospital, it was just past eight in the morning.

Last night, they were both excited and nervous. They talked for over an hour before going to bed, saying they were tired before finally falling asleep. They woke up at 6:30 this morning, and to confirm the news as soon as possible to put their minds at ease, they didn't dawdle, quickly got up, washed, packed their things, and left.

I don't know if I need to be on an empty stomach for the check-up later, I didn't even eat breakfast.

Lin Sitian had just walked over when she suddenly realized something was wrong. She took a few steps back and met Lin Yiku's gaze, who was queuing to register.

"Brother? What's wrong?"

After asking, Lin Sitian realized she had asked a stupid question. If her brother were in trouble, he would definitely go to the military hospital. So she immediately changed her question: "What's wrong with Yuehe? Is she pregnant?"

"...It hasn't been checked yet."

Lin Sitian looked left and right but couldn't see Guan Yuehe anywhere. She was in a hurry to get back to work, so she quickly said, "Oh, okay, you guys go ahead and do your check-ups. I'll go home for dinner tonight."

After a while, Lin Yiku went to find Guan Yuehe with the list, saying, "I just saw Sitian."

"Where?" Guan Yuehe immediately looked around.

"I'm busy with work now. I said I'll be home for dinner tonight."

Guan Yuehe then gave up looking for her and walked with him toward the obstetrics and gynecology department, saying, "I haven't seen her all week."

We'll meet up when we get back tonight, then we'll have plenty to talk about.

Neither of them had ever been parents. They went to the hospital with their registration slips and did whatever the doctor told them to do. They answered any questions asked, extended their hands to have their pulse taken when asked, and did so when asked to do a urine test.

Guan Yuehe and Lin Yiku stared intently at the examination report in the doctor's hand, sitting and standing upright like students listening attentively to a lecture.

The doctor was acting strangely, raising his eyebrows one minute and frowning the next, making their already anxious hearts jump up and down with him. Just as the doctor was about to explain, he suddenly noticed the male colleague who had accompanied him was practically burying his face in the report. The doctor: "..."

Lin Yiku silently moved her head away and stood obediently to the side. The doctor glanced at the woman in front of the table, whose shoulders were shaking with laughter, and was speechless.

This couple, who seemed quite serious and proper just now, have finally revealed their true nature; neither of them seems very reliable.

After asking many questions, the doctor finally gave a definite answer: "She's pregnant, about a month and a half."

After looking at Guan Yuehe's rosy complexion, the doctor added, "Just eat a normal diet and avoid strenuous exercise."

Seeing that their clothes didn't seem to indicate they were in poor conditions, he continued, "It would be best if you came to the hospital for a check-up every month."

The room was quiet for about ten seconds. The doctor confirmed that they had no questions, and they confirmed that the doctor had no further instructions. The doctor was busy calling the next person in, and they were busy thanking him.

"Show me the test report and forms."

Guan Yuehe took it and examined it closely. She and Lin Yiku huddled together, both laymen who knew nothing about the professional terms, but the document clearly stated that she was pregnant, and that was enough.

With this form, they can take it to the family planning department to apply for a birth permit.

Without a birth permit, going to the hospital to give birth will be a big problem, and the child's household registration will be an even bigger problem.

According to the current policy, the child's household registration must follow the mother's, so the little monkey will be registered under her household registration book in the future.

Guan Yuehe looked at the list again and again, when suddenly her stomach rumbled and she realized that she hadn't eaten breakfast yet!

Guan Yuehe found a state-run restaurant near the hospital and ate six steamed buns.

She now feels that her appetite is too normal; she's eating enough for two people!

"To celebrate, shall we go to Uncle Ming's restaurant for lunch?"

"Let's go." Lin Yiku responded immediately. In order to have a restaurant lunch, they had to go back early to queue up.

The walk back from the hospital was easier than the way there, and the wind was cooler.

Hearing her sentimental remarks, Lin Yiku smiled slightly. It was because she was in a good mood that she felt the road was easier to walk on and the wind was cooler.

On the way back, the two of them would occasionally say something seemingly random, but it was all an expression of their joy.

Instead of returning to Ginkgo Hutong, she went straight to the shop. Since all four of her elders were there, Guan Yuehe announced, "Lin Yiku and I will treat everyone to lunch at the restaurant next door."

She was holding back her laughter, waiting for them to ask so she could surprise them with a surprise.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Guiying and Aunt Fang exchanged a glance and immediately asked with certainty, "Have you had a checkup? You're pregnant?"

Grandpa Lin smiled and looked over, waiting for a definite answer. Only Guan Canghai, who knew nothing, widened his eyes in surprise, "I'm a grandfather again?"

"You guys knew?" Guan Yuehe glanced at Lin Yiku behind her. "You told me?"

Lin Yi shook his head. She hadn't asked him to say anything, and he wasn't the type to keep secrets. How could he possibly leak the information beforehand?

Jiang Guiying chuckled smugly, "With your two acting so strangely these past few days, how could I not guess?"

Although they didn't say it directly, both of them were incredibly cautious, as if they were carrying some precious treasure. Plus, Yi Ku said she had taken the day off to accompany Yue He out.

She and her friends guessed that she had probably gone to the factory hospital for a check-up.

Adding to that their barely suppressed laughter when they arrived, and their offer to treat them to a meal at a restaurant, the 80% guess turned into absolute certainty.

Since they had guessed beforehand and she didn't want to scare them, Guan Yuehe wasn't disappointed. She laughed and praised, "Old ginger is spicier!"

When she and Lin Yiku decided to start dating, she wanted to keep it a secret from her family and give them a big surprise. However, her family had already guessed it beforehand, and the big surprise was gone just like that.

However, while there were no big surprises, there were still some small ones.

Several elders urged them to quickly take out the form and take a look, one after another opening their mouths:

"What did the doctor say? Did he say there was any problem?"

How old are you?

"It's been over a month, so... she'll probably be born around February next year. If it's a little earlier, she might be able to give birth before the Lunar New Year."

"The obstetrics and gynecology department of our factory's workers' hospital is well-equipped. This year, they imported a super-sized machine from abroad. When the pregnancy progresses, I feel more at ease going to the workers' hospital for an ultrasound."

"Oh right, we need to get the birth permit done quickly. I saw that Hongmei from our compound got it from the neighborhood office. I'll go ask her later what documents she needs..."

Guan Yuehe only remembered to go to the neighborhood office to apply for a birth permit when she heard them talking. She didn't listen to anything else. She gave Lin Yiku a wink and told him to go and queue up early.

It's Sunday, and the line to eat at the restaurant already stretches out onto the street. Although they have a good relationship with Grandpa Ming, if they cut in line now, they'll probably get yelled at by the people waiting outside.

Guan Aiguo silently pulled out the form and looked at it, then asked the question that had always puzzled him: "Can the machines in the hospital really tell the sex of a baby?"

Otherwise, why would people keep asking Sister Sitian to help them find out if the baby in their belly is a boy or a girl?

Guan Yuehe recalled the large, square machine she had seen during her checkup today and shook her head. "You can ask Sitian another day. Anyway, I can't understand what the machine is showing."

However, she and Lin Yiku didn't think about asking, and they weren't even in a hurry to name the child.

The child doesn't have to be registered immediately after birth; we can figure it out later.

Guan Aiguo scratched his head, somewhat unable to imagine what the child born to his second sister and Yiku would look like.

He's definitely tall, and his strength... is probably not small either.

He only dared to think it in his heart, while the elders said it directly.

"Oh dear, with their looks, their children are bound to be short!"

"I just hope my child won't have the same personality as Yi Ku. Oh, he was so naughty when he was little... You all know what I mean, his dad and I really wanted to beat him every day..."

Guan Yuehe laughed heartily.

Lin Yiku, who was queuing outside, raised an eyebrow. Just by looking at her grinning at him, he knew they were making fun of him again.

They ordered a table full of dishes for lunch, but made room for Grandpa Ming and packed the leftovers to take home and eat.

"Guiying, is there some good news in your family?"

"Great news!" Jiang Guiying nodded repeatedly.

She hadn't urged them before, but she was very anxious. The young couple was planning to have a child but hadn't yet, and she was afraid that they were trying but hadn't been able to conceive!

That's perfect, it's not too late for Yuehe to have a child at her age, it's just right.

In recent years, there has been a push for later marriage and childbirth; it's normal to get married after the age of 25. If you get married too early, you might not be able to get a birth permit and have to wait. Having a child before the age of 30 is perfectly normal.

Lin Sitian went straight back to Ginkgo Hutong after get off work in the afternoon and brought Guan Yuehe a few packets of milk powder.

Actually, she didn't lack baby formula, but Lin Yi had asked her old friend Zhong Sheng to help bring some back. After giving birth, she could buy formula at the hospital with a doctor's prescription.

"Chen Lizhong isn't coming back with you?"

“Didn’t their factory import a color TV production line from Japan? They have a heavy production schedule this year, so I’m leaving get off work an hour later. I’m rushing back; I can’t wait for him.” Lin Sitian circled around her. “What did the doctor say? Is everything alright?”

"It's alright, I'm full of energy."

Honestly, apart from suddenly not being able to finish the fish and meat in the company cafeteria and having a slightly larger appetite, she didn't feel that pregnancy had brought any major changes.

Lin Sitian smiled mysteriously, looked around, and saw her brother washing shoes in the yard outside before whispering, "You and my brother are incredibly efficient!"

I gave her the remaining family planning supplies in April, and it's only June now, the baby is already over a month old! Does that mean all that effort for half a month was wasted...?

"You two are both destined for great things; you'll succeed at whatever you do..."

Guan Yuehe immediately covered her mouth with her hand.

Some things are better left unsaid; it's enough to keep them to yourself.

Neither of the two families specifically spread the news of Guan Yuehe's pregnancy, and Guan Yuehe didn't mention it at work either.

The little monkey is currently very well-behaved and does not interfere with her usual work at all.

However, this morning she went to the neighborhood office with her documents to apply for a birth permit. Two of the staff members at the office were neighbors from Ginkgo Hutong. Without her saying anything, in a few days, all the neighbors in the hutong would know that she and Lin Yiku were having a baby.

Although we've only just received some news about the baby, there are still many things that need to be prepared as soon as possible.

She and Lin Yi didn't need to worry about the baby's clothes and diapers.

Gu Mannian still kept all of Gu Yu's clothes and diapers from before she was one year old. He took them all out, washed and dried them at home before sending them over.

I didn't realize how many clothes Gu Yu had before!

They all look very new.

Even if we don't make new clothes, these are enough for Little Mischief to wear.

Gu Mannian said, "Your sister made all of these when she had time. Look, this one is Gu Yu's favorite. When the neighbors in the family compound came to ask for old clothes, Gu Yu couldn't bear to give them to them."

Hearing that her aunt was pregnant, Gu Yu generously emptied out all the clothes that had been stored away in her closet.

Guan Yuehe clicked her tongue several times. No wonder Gu Yu loves to dress up now; it turns out her older sister cultivated this habit since she was little.

I must say, her sister has great taste; children's clothes should be colorful and vibrant to look good.

Guan Yuehe pinched the chubby little face next to her, who was eagerly waiting for praise, and said, "Auntie didn't treat you to cream popsicles for nothing."

Gu Yu's eyes lit up. "Auntie, let's go buy it now!"

"..."

This kid really knows how to seize an opportunity; when did she say she was going to buy popsicles now?

Gu Mannian said sternly, "You won't get any popsicles today or tomorrow!"

By the way, tell the adults in the house not to take her to the supply and marketing cooperative to buy popsicles.

"Section Chief Mo's family got a new refrigerator. She went to their house to watch TV and secretly asked Mo Mingqi to buy her popsicles. She ate popsicles there for three days in a row! Luckily, I went to pick her up early last night, otherwise I wouldn't have found out."

Gu Yu nervously clenched her fingers.

Jiang Guiying looked at her like that and felt both annoyed and amused. She poured her a glass of warm water and said, "You only have water to drink today."

Guan Yuehe avoided Gu Yu's pleading look; when a child is itchy, you have to discipline them.

She then turned to pack the clothes that Gu Mannian had brought.

"By the way, my sister's going to be on vacation soon, right?"

"It'll be soon," Gu Mannian said. "There should be other plans after the holiday."

Guan Yuehe suddenly remembered something, "Mom, where was Teacher Zhang assigned? Why haven't we heard anything about it?"

"Oh! I didn't even remember until you mentioned it." Jiang Guiying looked at Aunt Fang again, who also shook her head.

The two of them have opened a shop and are busy with other things, so they don't really know much about the latest gossip in the alley.

But judging from the usual situation, if Zhang Desheng were assigned to a unit, wouldn't Zhang Ersao, with her gossipy nature, spread rumors everywhere?

Either the assigned unit wasn't good enough, or the assigned unit was too good, and people are afraid of something going wrong, so they're keeping it a secret.

A series of firecrackers went off outside the wall.

"Is it the wedding procession returning?!" Jiang Guiying ran out to see the excitement, and Gu Yu also pulled Gu Mannian along to walk outside.

Aunt Bai's family is holding a wedding banquet at home today, and the lively atmosphere in the No. 2 courtyard has been going on since morning.

"Sister Yuehe, it's time to go eat." Wu Jiawang was asked to come and call her.

"They're here."

Guan Yuehe locked the door, took the red envelope, and went out. There were firecrackers scattered at the entrance of the alley. A group of children ran out from the No. 2 courtyard, their pockets bulging with candy, biscuits, melon seeds, and peanuts, and were busy picking up firecrackers to play with.

In Courtyard No. 2, Aunt Bai and her family were busy greeting guests and helping them to sit down. The neighbors in Courtyard No. 2 helped serve the dishes to the table, while Bai Yuejin led his wife to identify people.

Good days are coming one after another.
