Chapter 20 Mother and Daughter "Yingzi, you can't forget your parents' home after you marry into their family..."

Lunch was ready, and Li Fengju called from the kitchen, "Someone bring the bowls and chopsticks."

Without Wang Ying's call, Zhao Yunsheng immediately stood up and headed for the kitchen. Wang Hui and Du Jianguo were still in the room, and upon hearing the noise, they emerged. Wang Hui's annoyance was no longer apparent; she dragged Du Jianguo along to the kitchen to fetch the dishes.

Wang Ying just sat there and waited for all the bowls, chopsticks and side dishes to be served on the table. She then picked up her chopsticks and started eating.

Li Fengju had been keeping an eye on Wang Ying. Seeing her buried in her food, silent and not even glancing at them, as if she were a distant relative, she felt increasingly distressed. Halfway through the meal, while going to the kitchen to add more food, Li Fengju couldn't help crying.

"Mom, why does it take so long to serve the meat?" Wang Hui muttered.

Wang Yongren stood up and joked, "I'll go see if your mother is eating in the kitchen."

When Wang Yongren arrived in the kitchen, he saw Li Fengju wiping her tears with the corner of her apron lifted up.

"Why are you crying again? And you're crying alone in the kitchen. The whole family won't be able to eat?" Wang Yongren sighed.

"Old Wang, Yingzi must have separated from me." Li Fengju choked.

"What are you imagining? That's just her nature." Wang Yongren walked over and brought the plates. "Stop crying and go back to eat. If she doesn't support you in the future, I'll sue her."

Li Fengju wiped her tears and rolled her eyes at Wang Yongren. "Don't talk nonsense. Go back first. I'll wait for you."

Wang Yongren carried the meat plate back to the main room.

"Where's Mom?" Wang Hui asked.

"I'll come right away if there's anything." said Wang Yongren.

Wang Hui thought her mother had gone to the bathroom, so she didn't ask any more questions.

Wang Ying just focused on eating and didn't realize that her mother was crying in the kitchen because of her coldness. She didn't think about herself at all.

Li Fengju stayed in the kitchen for a while before coming back to continue eating.

Zhao Yunsheng gently kicked Wang Ying's foot, and Wang Ying turned his head slightly to look at him.

Zhao Yunsheng said to Wang Ying in a voice that only they could hear: "Mom has cried."

Wang Ying then looked at Li Fengju. Her mother's eyes were already red and swollen when she came today, so she didn't notice it just now. But her mother's nose is a little red now, so she must have really cried.

Wang Ying was calm and still didn't think about herself. She thought that Wang Hui might have complained to her and she couldn't bear to leave Wang Hui.

After lunch, Wang Hui rushed to wash the dishes, but Wang Ying remained motionless. Zhao Yunsheng was even more active than her and followed her to the kitchen carrying the dirty dishes.

Only Wang Ying and her father were left in the main room.

Wang Yongren was displeased by Wang Ying's coldness and indifference. He felt that Wang Ying was petty and unfilial. How could children bear grudges against their parents? Everyone has their own strengths and weaknesses. Even if they occasionally failed to treat Wang Ying equally, their treatment of her wasn't bad at all. Her current marriage was arranged by her family.

Wang Yongren, under the influence of alcohol, said to Wang Ying, "Yingzi, you can't forget your parents' just because you're married! It wasn't easy for your parents to give birth to you and raise you. Besides, what girl doesn't need the support of her parents? Just... just because you and Huihui were a little unfair in the past, you're holding a grudge against them?"

Wang Ying felt puzzled and thought that she had brought back too much meat today, which had made her father angry.

"I don't understand what you are saying." Wang Ying just said.

Wang Yongren pointed towards the kitchen, actually intending to point at Li Fengju. Wang Ying thought he was upset that she hadn't washed the dishes, so she said unhappily, "I've been washing dishes at my parents' house for over ten years. Now that I'm back home, can't I take a break?"

Wang Yongren sobered up a bit after hearing what Wang Ying said. He stared at Wang Ying blankly. The girl really did hold a grudge against him. But he couldn't get angry. After all, the girl was not only his girl now, but also someone else's wife.

Zhao Yunsheng and Wang Hui were both driven back by Li Fengju.

Wang Ying had been sitting since she came back. Now she stood up and said she wanted to go to the bathroom. Zhao Yunsheng followed her to the public toilet in the alley.

After Wang Ying came out, Zhao Yunsheng asked her, "What's wrong? You look unhappy."

"No, that's just my nature," said Wang Ying.

Zhao Yunsheng looked at Wang Ying and didn't ask any more questions. Wang Ying and Zhao Yunsheng walked back. When they reached the door of Wang's house, Wang Ying didn't turn around and continued to walk forward. Zhao Yunsheng followed her.

After they walked for a while, Zhao Yunsheng heard Wang Ying sigh, so he went to hold Wang Ying's hand.

Wang Ying tried to break free, but Zhao Yunsheng said, "It's dinner time, and there's no one around. Just hold on for a while."

Wang Ying's emotions were dampened by Zhao Yunsheng's outburst. She looked at him and thought, "It's best not to dwell too much on the past, let alone past lives." Others, especially those who hurt her, couldn't understand her pain. Why should she waste her emotions on them? She could just ignore them.

"Go back." Wang Ying said.

"Where are you going back to? Back to our home?" Zhao Yunsheng said.

"Yeah." Wang Ying said.

Zhao Yunsheng didn't ask any more questions and took her hand and walked back. When they reached the door of Wang's house, they separated their hands.

Seeing that Wang Ying didn't look for her, Li Fengju took the initiative to look for her.

"Yingzi, I can't find the sweater pattern you drew for me last time. Come and help me redraw it." Li Fengju hurriedly stepped forward and said when she saw Wang Ying coming back.

Wang Ying didn't think much of it, thinking that her mother really wanted her to draw flowers, so she followed her mother to their room.

After entering the room, Wang Ying opened the drawer to look for paper and pen. Li Fengju just stood there looking at Wang Ying.

"Yingzi, how have you been at the Zhao family these past two days?" Li Fengju asked.

"Pretty good." Wang Ying said as he took out a pen from the drawer, but couldn't find any paper.

"That's good, that's good." Li Fengju said, "Look at the gifts they gave me, I know they must be satisfied with you."

"It's okay." Wang Ying said.

Li Fengju felt that Wang Ying was too cold, even colder than before at home, and she always felt uncomfortable.

"Why is there no paper? I'll go look in our room." Wang Ying didn't find any paper, turned around and was about to leave, but was stopped by Li Fengju.

"Don't look for me anymore. Mom just wants to talk to you." Li Fengju said.

Wang Ying looked at Li Fengju, her face still expressionless, as if waiting for her mother to continue.

Seeing Wang Ying like this, Li Fengju didn't know what to say.

Seeing that Li Fengju didn't say anything, Wang Ying said, "Didn't you want to talk to me?"

Li Fengju felt incredibly upset, feeling like her daughter wasn't close to her anymore. Her voice trembled as she spoke, "Yingzi, it wasn't easy for Mom either. Huihui wasn't well when she was little, so we had to pay more attention to her. We might have neglected you, but compared to other families, you haven't been treated unfairly by Mom and Dad."

Wang Ying thought her mother wanted to talk to her about something, but it turned out to be this.

"What do you mean by not treating her unfairly, Mom? If you hadn't asked me to stay at home to take care of Wang Hui and wait for her to go to school together, I should have graduated from high school two years ago." Wang Ying said lightly.

"Then before, before..." Li Fengju was a little unable to continue.

Wang Ying continued her words, "Why didn't she cry or make a fuss before? Why didn't I cry or make a fuss when I was little? But does crying and making a fuss help? Doesn't that mean I don't have to take care of her after she cries? Isn't it only by being obedient that I can get your praise and the same things as her?"

Li Fengju lifted the corner of her apron and wiped away her tears: "It's not easy for my parents either..."

"Well, it's easy for me," said Wang Ying.

Li Fengju couldn't continue speaking again. She looked at Wang Ying as if she had never known this daughter.

Wang Ying sighed: "Why are you crying? Do you think I'm too cold to you? Compared to that real disobedient child, I'm not that bad." She repeated what her mother had said to her just now.

Now Li Fengju really couldn't bear it anymore, so she sat down on the stool in front of the sewing machine and lay there sobbing softly.

Wang Ying didn't want to make her mother cry like that. She thought she could coax her mother back to her senses with just a few nice words, but Wang Ying didn't want to. Just because she didn't deliberately seek revenge on any of them didn't mean she forgave them.

Li Fengju cried for a while, and when she saw Wang Ying didn't say anything, she looked up at her and said, "Yingzi, Mom never thought it would be like this."

"What's the point of talking about this now?" Wang Ying said, "If you don't want to show off, I'll leave."

Li Fengju hurriedly called her: "Yingzi! Don't leave so quickly, Mom still has something to say."

Wang Ying didn't leave and looked at Li Fengju.

Li Fengju had originally wanted to ask them to discuss the Mid-Autumn Festival gifts since they were both here today, so that the difference wouldn't be too great. But looking at Wang Ying, Li Fengju couldn't bring herself to speak.

"Mid-Autumn Festival is in two days. You can come over for dinner then," said Li Fengju.

"Got it." Wang Ying said, "Anything else? If not, I'll go back. I need to get Yunsheng a sweater before the temperature drops."

"Are you leaving now?" Li Fengju stood up and tried to pull Wang Ying's hand, but Wang Ying struggled twice but failed.

"Yingzi, it was mom's fault in the past. Just look to the future. Mom really treats everyone equally." Li Fengju said.

Wang Ying thought to herself, "You've been talking about fairness for so many years, I wonder if you're tired of it. And why are you suddenly trying to be fair when you've never been fair before? Are you suddenly caring about me, your daughter?"

"I understand." Wang Ying said as she tried to break free from her mother's tight grip on her hand.

Seeing that Wang Ying was resisting strongly, Li Fengju had no choice but to let go of her hand reluctantly.

Wang Ying left the room, and Li Fengju followed. Wang Hui immediately glanced at her mother and her elder sister. Seeing her mother's red eyes, she felt unhappy. Why did her mother still care about her elder sister?

Wang Ying ignored these people and said to Zhao Yunsheng, "It's getting late. Let's go back and pack up. You have to go to work tomorrow."

Zhao Yunsheng smiled and said, "Okay, then, Mom and Dad, we'll go back first. We'll be back in two days anyway!"

Wang Yongren was not satisfied with Wang Ying, but was very satisfied with his son-in-law Zhao Yunsheng. He only regretted that he was not his biological son.

"Okay, you guys go back first. We also need to clean up our house," said Wang Yongren.

Du Jianguo looked at Wang Hui, asking with his eyes whether they wanted to leave too, but Wang Hui didn't say anything.

Li Fengju remembered to return the gift, and hurried back to the room to take out the two towels, two bowls, and a new pair of bamboo chopsticks that she had prepared earlier.

"This is a return gift. It's your responsibility. You can take it back." Li Fengju said as she wrapped the dishes and chopsticks in a towel and handed them to Wang Ying.

Wang Ying accepted the return gift and said, "Mom and Dad, I'll go back first."

"Well, come home if you have nothing to do." Li Fengju was about to cry again. She was obviously her daughter, but now she left her and left home, but said she was going back.

"When Yunsheng is free, bring Yingzi back. He rides his bike very fast." Wang Yongren said.

"Okay, Dad." Zhao Yunsheng agreed with a smile, nodded to Wang Hui and her husband, and said, "Then we'll go first."

"I'll see you off." Li Fengju said hurriedly.

After Wang Ying and Zhao Yunsheng left the door, Wang Hui and Du Jianguo both looked at their backs. Wang Hui suddenly realized that she hadn't said a single word to her elder sister today.

Wang Hui turned around and found that Du Jianguo was still looking at her elder sister's back. Her face immediately darkened and she twisted his arm.
