Chapter 26: Reality: Marrying You is Really Good

Wang Hui and her friends were supposed to go out early in the morning. Before leaving, Wang Hui discovered that two mooncakes were missing from the mooncakes that were to be given as holiday gifts.

There were originally four mooncakes, and the fact that two were missing was too obvious. Wang Hui knew without asking that Du Wenli must have stolen some, but she refused to admit it, accusing Wang Hui of stealing them and framing her. Sun Qiaoling was not home, and the two sisters-in-law had an early morning argument. Du Jianguo's grandmother intervened, driving Wang Hui to tears.

Wang Hui had already been feeling unhappy for the past few days, and now she felt even more aggrieved. Du Jianguo was a poor talker, incapable of coaxing or problem-solving, and only served to irritate Wang Hui further. The two of them drifted back to the gift they had given her during their last visit. Wang Hui complained that the Du family didn't take her seriously, giving her far less than her older sister.

When Du Jianguo heard this, his usually gentle personality suddenly became angry. He asked Wang Hui if she regretted marrying him and still wanted to marry Zhao Yunsheng.

Wang Hui was filled with anger and resentment when she heard Du Jianguo's words. She remembered how Du Jianguo had looked at her elder sister the first thing he did when he entered the room, and how he had done the same the day he returned home. She felt that he was the one who was regretting the decision. Overwhelmed with anger and resentment, Wang Hui wanted to slap Du Jianguo, but she was afraid that a slap would ruin their friendship and turn them completely against each other. She looked at him with resentment, tears streaming down her face.

Du Jianguo couldn't stand Wang Hui's look the most, and he immediately softened his heart. Somehow, inspiration and courage burst out, and he went to his grandmother's room to ask for two mooncakes to make up for the gift, temporarily resolving the matter.

Du Jianguo wrapped the mooncakes, fetched water for Wang Hui to wash her face, and even applied some cold cream on her. Only then did he appease Wang Hui. Then the two of them went out and returned to her parents' home.

At the Wang family, Li Fengju was cooking in the kitchen but was not at ease. She would go to the main room to check on Wang Ying and his wife, and then go out to see why Wang Hui and the others had not returned yet.

Wang Ying sat eating a pomegranate peeled by Zhao Yunsheng, feeling bored. She muttered, "I should have brought the sweater back to knit it earlier. I'm so bored."

"Basic work and rest. You should enjoy the leisure time now. When you start working, you won't be so free." Zhao Yunsheng said as he peeled a few more pomegranates for Wang Ying and stuffed them into her mouth.

Li Fengju went to the door and looked eighteen times, but didn't see the two people. While she was cooking, Wang Hui and her husband arrived.

When Wang Hui and the others arrived at the door of the main hall, Zhao Yunsheng was still peeling a pomegranate for Wang Ying.

"Sister, brother-in-law." Wang Hui called out, and Du Jianguo also greeted them.

Wang Ying hummed, then sat still, not even raising his eyelids, and continued to eat his pomegranate. Zhao Yunsheng called them for tea.

Wang Hui brought the gifts to her parents' room. She glanced around and didn't see any gifts from her eldest sister and the others. She guessed her mother had put them away. She didn't look through the cabinets and left the room. As she passed the main hall, she said, "I'm going to the kitchen to help Mom cook."

Wang Hui came to the kitchen, and Li Fengju looked up: "Oh, Huihui is back!"

"Well, where's Dad? Why can't I see him?" Wang Hui walked to the pot to see what Li Fengju was cooking.

"I don't know what happened at the factory, but they called him over early in the morning." Li Fengju looked at Wang Hui and noticed that her eyes seemed a little swollen. She wanted to ask but didn't open her mouth, thinking that they could talk slowly after dinner.

"My eldest sister seems to have become a little lazy after getting married. She doesn't even come to help. She just sits there eating pomegranates." Wang Hui said sourly.

"There's nothing busy, you can go and sit down too," said Li Fengju.

"I'll help mom." Wang Hui smiled affectionately at Li Fengju.

Li Fengju didn't chase Wang Hui away anymore. Now that her daughter was back, she didn't need her to do any work, so it was good for her to stay here with her. Wang Ying had been back to her parents' home twice, but she had never been to the kitchen once.

In the main hall, Wang Ying had finally had enough of the pomegranates and told Zhao Yunsheng to stop peeling them. Du Jianguo looked at Zhao Yunsheng and Wang Ying, feeling an inexplicable discomfort.

Before lunch, Wang Yongren returned. He was delighted to see his two sons-in-law, but he was unhappy when he saw Wang Ying. This girl didn't even smile at him. Even when she saw him return, she stood up slowly and greeted him after her two sons-in-law stood up first.

"Dad goes to the factory during the holidays. The factory really can't do without old employees like you," said Zhao Yunsheng.

Wang Yongren went to the washbasin rack to wash his hands. He was delighted to hear his son-in-law's flattery. He smiled and said, "Isn't the city going to transfer a group of people? The leaders above think that the city should retain a group of reserve talents, and they will probably organize an examination."

Wang Ying and Zhao Yunsheng exchanged glances. Had Director Zhao's conversation with Deputy Mayor Sun last night reached the factory floor this morning? Apparently, the exam was a done deal.

Wang Hui brought the cooked dishes into the main room and asked, "What exam?"

Wang Yongren said, "We don't know yet. We'll have to wait for notification. The factory leaders will come to collect opinions from us veteran employees to see what problems and difficulties we have in our work and what our vision is for the factory."

Du Jianguo said, "That's great. I wonder if the garment factory will participate. If they do, Huihui, you can take the exam. Then we can go to and from get off work together."

Wang Hui placed the dishes on the table, frowning as she thought. It seemed like there hadn't been any exams in her previous life. The notice came right after National Day, and she'd been sent to the countryside since then. How could there suddenly be an exam? Could it be that one of her leaders had been reborn?

"Huihui?" Du Jianguo called out when he saw Wang Hui didn't say anything.

Wang Hui came back to her senses and said, "Then I will definitely take the exam."

Wang Yongren chuckled and said, "I'm afraid I'll disappoint you. People like you and your elder sister, who don't need to go to the countryside in the first place, are not allowed to participate."

Wang Ying and Zhao Yunsheng exchanged a look, both stunned. They had never imagined such a possibility...

"Why?" Wang Hui certainly wanted to pass the exam to get into the factory. This was much more powerful than replacing Du Wenxiu.

"What basis do you need? The selection is supposed to be from those who go to the countryside. If you don't need to go to the countryside, you will definitely not be allowed to participate." Wang Yongren said.

Wang Ying subconsciously thought that if she had known earlier, she would not have gotten married. She didn’t know if it was too late to divorce now.

Zhao Yunsheng seemed to see what Wang Ying was thinking and twisted Wang Ying's thigh under the table.

Wang Ying was twisted and felt pain, so he kicked Zhao Yunsheng. Zhao Yunsheng dodged, and Wang Ying kicked the leg of the square table, almost overturning it.

"What are you doing, sister? Are you dissatisfied with my parents? Go back to your parents' house and kick the table." Wang Hui was standing by the table and was startled.

Wang Ying ignored her and just stared at Zhao Yunsheng, looking at his legs, signaling him not to move and letting her kick him.

Zhao Yunsheng really didn't move his legs, so Wang Ying kicked him, and only then was Wang Ying satisfied.

Wang Yongren saw what Wang Ying and his wife were doing and thought Wang Ying was going too far, so he said, "Yingzi, don't bully Yunsheng."

Zhao Yunsheng said with a smile: "Dad, Yingzi and I were just joking. I was the one who provoked her first."

Wang Yongren was silent. After his son-in-law said so, what else could he say? He said that Yunsheng was a perfect son-in-law, while Yingzi was the one who was not worthy.

Zhao Yunsheng continued, "Dad, who told you that only people who were sent down to the countryside can take the exam?"

"My factory director said only families with transfer quotas are allowed to take the exam. The requirements are quite high, and few people are accepted," Wang Yongren said. "And it's not based on what you learned in your school textbooks. Even if you two sisters were allowed to take the exam, you'd have a hard time passing. Forget it. Also, this time, whoever passes the exam gets the position. No selling or substitutions allowed. The requirements are quite high anyway."

Wang Ying felt a little discouraged. All her hard work and excitement was in vain, all for nothing. But this was reality; it couldn't all be as she'd imagined. As for her being able to take the exam without getting married, that was impossible. If she hadn't gotten married and hadn't persuaded Director Zhao, there wouldn't have been any exam.

Wang Hui felt dissatisfied, but she thought that Du Wenxiu's job would be replaced in the future, so she didn't care too much and went back to the kitchen.

Wang Hui returned to the kitchen, and Li Fengju said, "Your dad is back, isn't he?"

"Well, I'm back. They said the factory is going to have an exam to recruit people." Wang Hui said.

Li Fengju was about to add tofu to the pot when she stopped and said, "Hiring people? Hiring at this time?"

"Who knows? Besides, they only recruit people from those who have been sent down to the countryside. My elder sister and I can't participate," said Wang Hui.

Li Fengju thought to herself that if she had known about this exam earlier, Yingzi might not have to get married, and she and her daughter wouldn't have to separate.

But there is no such thing as knowing in advance in life. If she had known that she and Yingzi would become estranged, she would not have been partial. Li Fengju held the tofu firmly and started cutting it into the pot.

Li Fengju and Wang Hui, mother and daughter, prepared lunch together. Zhao Yunsheng and Du Jianguo went to the kitchen to get the bowls and chopsticks, but Wang Ying still sat there motionless.

Wang Yongren looked at Wang Ying and wanted to say something to her but didn't open his mouth.

At the dinner table, the family was still talking about the demotion and the exam. Zhao Yunsheng saw that Wang Ying was depressed, so he kept picking up food for her.

After lunch, Li Fengju cleared the table, and Wang Ying stood up. Li Fengju thought Wang Ying wanted to help her clean up, and she was happy when she heard Wang Ying call Zhao Yunsheng to accompany her to the public toilet...

After the couple left the Wang family's house, Zhao Yunsheng chuckled softly: "You don't go through this process every time you go back to your parents' home, do you?"

Wang Ying was stunned, remembering that she had done the same thing the last time she returned home, and she also smiled: "What's wrong with this process? Waiting for food and drinks, no need to do anything, this is how it should be when you return to your parents' home!"

Zhao Yunsheng saw Wang Ying smile and touched his arm with his arm: "Are you not angry anymore?"

"What's there to be angry about? It's not up to me to decide on this matter," said Wang Ying.

"Let's go home and ask Director Zhao. Maybe there is a solution." Zhao Yunsheng said.

Wang Ying felt that there was little hope. The leader said that they wanted to reserve talents for the city's construction, and those of them who did not need to go to the countryside were already reserve talents.

Wang Ying shook his head and sighed, "We still don't see the whole picture, and we only see it from our own perspective."

Zhao Yunsheng smiled. "That can't be helped. We're not the mayor. Look, Director Zhao has been working for half his life, and even when faced with this situation, he was too stubborn to change his ways. I never thought he could be this way."

Wang Ying nodded.

As they walked slowly forward, Zhao Yunsheng whispered, "Were you just thinking that if you hadn't gotten married, you would have had a chance to take the exam?"

"No," Wang Ying said, "If I hadn't gotten married, I wouldn't have had this exam."

Zhao Yunsheng snorted, "So, you're just being realistic and don't think marrying me is a good idea at all?"

Wang Ying stopped and looked at Zhao Yunsheng: "That's not the case. It's really nice to marry you."

Zhao Yunsheng finally became happy and said, "Don't worry. I think even if there's no chance this time, there will be a chance next time. Did you notice that Dad said that this time's positions cannot be bought, sold, or replaced."

"Yeah, I noticed it. I'll ask Dad when I get home. He must know more." Wang Ying said.

Zhao Yunsheng nodded: "Maybe there is a chance of turning around."
