Chapter 60: Factory Bully She is not a Factory Bully

"Okay, then we'll go together. You guys pack up. We'll go directly from the workshop and won't come back." Wang Ying said with a smile.

A few people packed up their personal belongings and headed to Workshop 4 together about ten minutes before the end of their shift. The leader of the quality inspection team next door popped his head out to look at them, then retreated back.

The employees of Workshop 4 were already preparing to get off work. When they saw that Wang Ying and his group had arrived on time, their faces turned a little ugly for a moment. Director Fang was not there at that time.

Several people from the development team were blocking the door. If they weren't wearing workshop work clothes and had their work badges pinned to their chests, they would have looked like a few "bullies" who had come to collect debts.

Wang Ying watched them finish their work, exchanging glances, probably wondering what to do next. They probably saw Team Leader Wang as a lawless factory bully, relying on her status as Director Zhao's daughter-in-law.

Xu Lili stood next to Wang Ying, feeling inexplicably excited and passionate, thinking that she would be fighting side by side with the team leader next.

When it was time to get off work, Wang Ying didn't say anything. She just blocked the door with her men, waiting for them to speak.

At the end of the day, everyone was anxious to get home. With families at home, no one was idle. Seeing Wang Ying silent, they wondered what she was up to, and they all thought this little girl was difficult to deal with.

The veteran operator Wang Ying had questioned today said, "Team Leader Wang, feel free to ask whatever you want. We're just ordinary workers, and we might not know what you're asking. Please don't embarrass honest people like us."

It is a characteristic of this era to start accusing others of something as soon as there is a disagreement. Wang Ying has never made things difficult for them. It is they who have always made things difficult for the people in their own group, and even framed them for having flour scattered.

Wang Ying glanced at Tian Yong, who had framed Luo Wenshu that day, and then said slowly, "I was asking you questions to complete the organization's mission, but you didn't know the answer. You know best whether I've embarrassed you or not."

"Then ask me. I have to hurry back to cook." said a female comrade.

Wang Ying had a lot of questions to ask, but after looking through the archives that afternoon, she didn't really have anything to ask. She had said she would come, so how could she not come? She couldn't just keep being "ignored" by them. If she didn't fight back and show some attitude, it would be difficult to get her work done.

Wang Ying asked, "Are there any of us comrades who used to work at the old bakery?"

They didn't expect Wang Ying to ask this, and subconsciously looked at the old operator who had been questioned by Wang Ying today.

Seeing that everyone was looking at him, the man had no choice but to say, "I am."

"Is there any difference in taste and quality between the peach cakes produced by our factory now and those produced by the previous pastry factory?" Wang Ying asked.

"The recipe is the same and the taste is similar." said the man vaguely.

"There's a difference, but do you know why?" Wang Ying felt this was a crucial question, one that posed a serious threat to product quality and warranted special attention. In the near future, corporate reforms would begin, with companies becoming self-sufficient and the market opening up further. Their quality would ultimately be eliminated.

"I don't know either. I really don't know," the man said.

"Then please think carefully about it and recall every step you know carefully." Wang Ying sighed. "Ah, you know, one time, I was at the supply and marketing point and heard someone say that the peach cakes produced by our factory were far inferior to those in Shanghai. They said our factory was just not good enough and couldn't compare to those big factories."

When Wang Ying said this, the employees in Workshop 4 were somewhat unhappy. After all, they were the ones who produced most of the peach cakes in Beichong. Although it was an organizational task, who wanted to be criticized for their incompetence?

The old employee said, "I see. I'll go back and think about it."

Wang Ying smiled and said, "Thank you for your help, old comrade. Actually, I just want our factory to produce peach cakes that are no less delicious than those in Shanghai, and then produce more cakes that ordinary people like. I think you comrades must have the same idea as me."

Wang Ying felt some of their expressions begin to soften, so she continued, "The second question is about the fried fruit snacks we use during the Lunar New Year. Is there any way to improve them to make them softer and more suitable for the elderly and children?"

"How do we know this? Aren't fried fruits always like this? Can they still be called fried fruits if they are soft?" said an employee.

At this time, another employee said, "Add more eggs, heat the oil a little higher, and control the time a little better, and it will be more crispy and tender."

Sure enough, I was able to get some information, but eggs were in short supply, so it was a bit difficult to get it. Wang Ying smiled and said, "Thank you, comrade. I'll take note. I have one last question. I'm going to start testing a new product in the next two days. Who of you will follow me?"

Thirty people, not a single one said a word, it seemed no one wanted to follow her. Wang Ying was not disappointed either, it was obvious that these people listened to Director Fang, and they would not dare to do anything unless Director Fang spoke.

"Okay then. We'll ask Director Fang for someone directly." Wang Ying said, "If you have nothing else to do, you can go home."

The people in the workshop breathed a sigh of relief and were about to leave when they heard Wang Ying say again: "When you go to work tomorrow, please answer some of my production questions without affecting your work. I hope you can cooperate with me, otherwise you will have to work overtime, which is not good." Saying this was the purpose of her doing this today.

After Wang Ying finished speaking, he took the lead and left with the team. Xu Lili was still a little disappointed and whispered, "Team Leader, is that all?"

"Then what do you want to do? We are outnumbered and cannot win a fight." Wang Ying said jokingly.

Xu Lili also laughed: "I thought the team leader was going to show off his power!"

"What authority do I, an acting team leader, have? I just want them to cooperate with me in the future," Wang Ying said. She understood that everyone was having a hard time, and keeping them for a few words was enough to achieve her goal. She wasn't a factory bully. Keeping them for too long, and sparking public outrage, wouldn't benefit her.

Zhou Qianjin said, "Team Leader, this is enough. It's a warning to the enemy."

"Let's see whether they cooperate tomorrow. If they don't, we will make an example of them to scare the monkeys," said Wang Ying.

Several people walked towards the factory gate while talking, said goodbye and left at the gate.

As Wang Ying walked home, she pondered new product development, her thoughts drifting further and further afield. The various cookies, cakes, and snacks she had seen and eaten in her past life kept flashing through her mind. But just because she had seen and eaten them didn't mean she could make them. After all, the conditions were there. If she wanted to achieve her goal, she would have to work slowly over time.

Wang Ying walked to the entrance of the alley on her side of the road and saw Zhao Yunsheng riding his bicycle towards her. Wang Ying put his work aside for the moment and quickened his pace with a smile.

Zhao Yunsheng quickly approached Wang Ying, who asked him, "Where are you going?"

"I'll pick you up." Zhao Yunsheng said.

"I'm back now, just a little late. Is Dad home yet?" Wang Ying said.

"No, your food factory is really busy." Zhao Yunsheng turned the car around and said, "Come on in."

"It's just a few steps to get home." Wang Ying said this but still sat on the back seat of the bicycle.

When the couple got home, Wang Ying put down his bag and went to see Chen Xiuqin first.

"Mom, how do you feel today? Has the swelling gone down?" Wang Ying asked.

"It has gone down a lot, and it hardly hurts if I don't touch it. It's good to take a sick leave occasionally. Look, I'm finally finishing knitting this sweater for your dad." Chen Xiuqin said as she patted the sweater that was half-knitted next to her.

Wang Ying smiled and said, "Being healthy is the best. Mom, I'll go make dinner first."

"Go, go."

Zhao Yunsheng came back first and had already done everything that needed to be washed and cut, and was waiting for Wang Ying to come and cook.

Today, Wang Ying was stewing tofu at home. She cut the tofu into pieces and put them into the pot. While waiting for the pot to boil, she said to Zhao Yunsheng, "Do you have a book with recipes or something like that?"

"How could I have that kind of book?" Zhao Yunsheng said with a smile, "Didn't you hear what Director Zhao said? I only know about romance."

Wang Ying just asked casually, and Zhao Yunsheng said no, and the matter was forgotten.

Dinner was ready, and Director Zhao arrived home, looking rather unhappy. Wang Ying suspected it was about the nuts and dried fruit.

At the dinner table, Wang Ying didn't ask. After they had finished eating and washed the dishes, Wang Ying asked, "Dad, is it that the dried fruit batch isn't going well?"

"Yeah." Director Zhao responded.

"Forget it if it doesn't work," Wang Ying said. "There's no need to offend anyone."

"It's already been negotiated," Director Zhao said. "But it's only for this year. Don't even think about it later."

Wang Ying understood and nodded, saying, "I understand. Thank you, Dad."

"How do you plan to use it?" asked Director Zhao.

"I think that Yunpian Cake is just cake and a little red and green silk, which is a bit too monotonous. Add some dried fruits and nuts, not too much, just a little flavor," said Wang Ying.

Director Zhao nodded: "That's fine. What other plans do you have?"

"Do you think this would work? Keep the cakes, keep the fried fruit, and add a new product."

"Have you got any ideas on the new product? I heard you went to the archives today." Director Zhao said again.

"Well, I found two recipes in the archives, one for butterfly pastry and one for cake," said Wang Ying.

"Which one do you want to add?" Director Zhao asked.

"I'm still thinking about it and want to find out if there are any other recipes." Wang Ying said that she actually still wanted to make shaqi ma. This kind of snack did not become popular in their place until many years later, and that was because of the popularity of TV commercials. They didn't even know there was such a food. It was fragrant, soft and sweet.

Unfortunately, finding the formula was a bit difficult. She definitely didn't have it locally, so she'd have to go elsewhere to learn. But she might not have the time, and the layers of approvals were a hassle. Still, she definitely needed to learn it later, so she could take her time and figure out the immediate issues first.

"We must hurry up, time waits for no one," said Director Zhao.

"I know. By the way, Dad, do you still remember Lu Zhongming?" Wang Ying asked.

Director Zhao was stunned: "You know him, oh, you saw him in the archives today?"

"Yes, he must be an old employee of the original pastry factory. I want to find the old employees and ask them about the peach pastries." Wang Ying said.

"Well, not only is he a veteran employee, he's also the cousin of the former pastry factory owner," Director Zhao said. "He wasn't actively trying to reform himself. He was passive and lazy at work. He even ate peach cakes while on the job. He was caught, criticized several times, and then fired. If you contact him, even if he knows, he probably won't tell you."

"That may not be the case. Wasn't he reported by Fang Hongjun? Fang Hongjun and I are now at odds with each other," said Wang Ying.

Director Zhao looked at Wang Ying and said, "If you can really find him, you might be able to find out something."

"Then I'll try it later." Wang Ying said, "By the way, Dad, I also want to change the packaging of the cloud cake."

"Change the packaging?" Director Zhao adjusted his sitting position. "Why do you want to change the packaging when everything is fine?"

"Want to try something new?" Wang Ying said, "I'll show you the new packaging once I've designed it. Then I'll ask Uncle Gao and the others to make it."

"You don't want to end up in a situation where the budget won't be approved," Director Zhao said.

"No." Wang Ying said.

"Anyway, you have to keep in mind that the higher-ups have already made some concessions. They can't keep making concessions," said Director Zhao.

Wang Yingze smiled and said, "It's precisely because the higher-ups have been making concessions that I think they'll make more. After all, they've already made concessions so far. Once I make the sample, they'll definitely agree."

Director Zhao looked at Wang Ying. He didn't expect that his daughter-in-law had such a shameless side.

Upstairs, Wang Ying sat at his desk, pencil in hand, designing the packaging for the Yunpian Cake. Currently, Yunpian Cake is typically made in two pieces, weighing half a pound, wrapped in red paper with the words "Yunpian Cake" and the factory name written on it.

Zhao Yunsheng was sitting on the bed reading a book. Seeing Wang Ying writing or drawing, and seemingly not working on a work report, he asked, "Yingzi, what are you doing?"

"I want to design new packaging for Yunpian Cake," said Wang Ying.

Zhao Yunsheng got out of bed and came to Wang Ying. He saw that Wang Ying's paper was a mess with words and pictures. Some of the words and pictures were painted and then erased after she finished them. Among them was the word "Fu".

Zhao Yunsheng looked at Wang Ying, pointed at the word "Fu", and said jokingly: "Did your hand slip? How dare you write this on the packaging?"

This kind of thing was considered "Four Olds" and could not be written on the packaging. Wang Ying hadn't noticed it when she wrote it, and only remembered it after she had finished writing it, and hurriedly blacked it out.

Zhao Yunsheng pulled up a chair and sat next to Wang Ying. He said, "I'd like to give you some advice. What kind of packaging do you want?"

Wang Ying said: "It should be simple and distinctive. It would be best if the wrapping paper could be easily opened without being damaged, and the paper could be reused after being opened."

Zhao Yunsheng raised his eyebrows and said, "Yingzi, your requirements are quite high. This should be left to professionals."

Wang Ying also knew that professional matters should be left to professionals. The problem was that she didn't know such a person, and her factory didn't have such a person either. That's why she wanted to try to do it herself. She looked at Zhao Yunsheng and asked, "Do you know such a professional?"

"I'll go to your workplace and ask for you tomorrow," Zhao Yunsheng said. "There's someone at my workplace who likes to draw, make blackboard newspapers, and do handicrafts. I think he could do it."

Wang Ying threw the pencil away and said, "Tsk, I really can't rely on myself for everything."

"Of course, no one can do everything. Besides, you're the leader, so just take charge. You come up with ideas and let others help you realize them. If you need anything in the future, just tell me. I'm still here at home!" Zhao Yunsheng put his arm around Wang Ying's shoulders. "Let's go to bed."

Wang Ying looked at Zhao Yunsheng. Who said he only understood romance? Didn’t he understand other things as well?
