The sun was shining brightly, the weather was perfect, and it should have been a peaceful day. However, in a conference room on one floor of the office building, the atmosphere was tense. The general manager slammed his fist on the table in anger: "Is this the result of all your hard work? You'd better deal with it yourselves!"
The general manager was so angry that he walked out, leaving a large group of people looking at each other in bewilderment.
Xu Lai's colleague whispered to her, "They come here every month, we're used to it."
Xu Lai twirled her pen without saying a word. She tidied up her things and returned to her workstation.
A little while later, Liang Xuzhou was seen leaving the office with a folder in his arms and heading to the general manager's office.
After a while, he returned to his office with a beaming smile. As he passed Xu Lai's workstation, he called out, "Xu Lai, come to my office."
Xu Lai got up and followed, slipping a resignation letter into the folder.
Liang Xuzhou slammed the project proposal on the table, in high spirits. The general manager not only had a positive view of the project but also praised him for doing a good job.
Even though he didn't write the project proposal, his name is the one who ultimately signed it, so that's fine.
Xu Lai knocked on the door, and Liang Xuzhou said, "Come in."
"Manager Liang, is there something you need?" Xu Lai asked directly.
Liang Xuzhou closed the door, took Xu Lai's hand, and said, "Now that we're all alone, why are you being so polite with me?"
Liang Xuzhou is her boyfriend. They went to the same university, but only met at the company. After they met, Liang Xuzhou pursued Xu Lai, and Xu Lai agreed in a moment of passion.
He leaned in to kiss her, but Xu Lai subtly dodged him. She smiled and asked, "What did you want to talk to the general manager about?"
Liang Xuzhou paused for a moment before saying, "I just showed the project proposal to the general manager, and she was very satisfied. She said she would put me in charge of this project. Lai Lai, I'll be promoted again soon."
She's been with the company for three years, and this isn't the first time something like this has happened. She'd tolerated it before, but this time she wasn't going to.
She pushed Liang Xuzhou away and questioned, "Didn't I write this project proposal? How did it end up in your name?"
He smiled, hugged her again, and coaxed, "Isn't what's yours mine? Besides, if I get promoted and get a raise, you can stay at home and take good care of the family."
Xu Lai pushed him away: "Consider those as gifts, but not this one."
She turned to leave, and just as her hand touched the doorknob, Liang Xuzhou said in an icy voice, "Xu Lai, have you thought this through?"
Xu Lai opened the door, leaving behind the words, "I am perfectly sober."
She went straight into the general manager's office, placed her resignation letter on the table, and said, "I intend to resign and report Liang Xuzhou for repeatedly plagiarizing my project proposals and having an office romance."
The general manager was stunned by her barrage of information. She waved her hand and asked, "Wait, whose project proposal did he take?"
Xu Lai straightened his back: "Mine, most of the project proposals he submitted in the past three years were my hard work. I am very familiar with the content. If you want to prove it, I still have the original manuscripts."
The general manager then asked, "Who else is having an office romance with him?"
Xu Lai sneered: "Naturally, it's Lin Yun."
The general manager looked grave and thought for a moment before saying, "Both of these matters need to be investigated. Without solid evidence, you may face suspension."
Xu Lai pointed to the resignation letter: "I'm sorry, Mr. Gao, I wasn't planning on leaving anyway. By the way, I sent the electronic version to your email address before, so it doesn't count as a breach of contract."
The general manager advised, "Xu Lai, I have high hopes for you. Why don't you reconsider? If the investigation is true, you can take Liang Xuzhou's position."
Xu Lai shook her head: "I don't have that idea at the moment, thank you for your kind offer."
She pushed open the office door and walked out. Liang Xuzhou was waiting at the door. As soon as she went out, he pulled her to the fire escape.
Xu Lai pulled her hand away and said, "Let go of me, I don't want things to get too ugly."
Liang Xuzhou leaned closer to her and asked, "What did you say to President Gao just now?"
Xu Lai stared at him: "What, are you scared?"
Liang Xuzhou squeezed her hand and said, "I'm warning you, at worst we'll die together, but you can't escape this office romance."
Xu Lai laughed and reminded him, "Liang Xuzhou, have you forgotten that the one you're dating is Lin Yun? What does it have to do with me?"
His expression changed: "How did you know?"
Xu Lai took out her phone and started recording. Liang Xuzhou's voice came through: "Xiao Yun, I like you. What kind of person is that Xu Lai? We can't even get close to each other normally, she's like a nun. Once I'm promoted to director, I'll dump her and we'll be together openly, okay?"
Lin Yun gave a coquettish laugh: "Okay, let's not mention her, she's such a spoilsport."
As luck would have it, Xu Lai was working overtime that day writing a project proposal. She was so tired that she fell asleep at her workstation. She happened to be covered with a blanket, and the two of them, feeling guilty, didn't dare turn on the light, so they didn't notice her.
Instead, she was woken up and enraged by what she heard, but she quickly calmed down, recorded the conversation, and filmed a video as evidence.
Xu Lai pushed him away and said, "If you don't mind, I can send a copy of the recording to all my colleagues in the company."
She left after she finished speaking, leaving Liang Xuzhou standing there in a daze.
Back at her workstation, Xu Lai began packing her things. She had discovered Liang Xuzhou's infidelity a month ago, and at that time she wrote a resignation letter and sent it to General Manager Gao's email address.
Mr. Gao doesn't often check his email, so she won't notice it for a while.
She has indeed gained experience in the three years she has been with the company, but she is always overshadowed by the men. The higher-ups always feel that the male colleagues are more hardworking and conscientious than the female colleagues.
