Xu Lai took Xia Ning to the cafeteria. At that time, she really liked the roast duck rice at the third cafeteria. She usually ordered a combination of char siu and roast duck.
The two ordered their food and sat down to wait. After a while, two girls came over and stood not far from them. Xu Lai noticed them, but they covered their faces and walked away.
Xia Ning brought over the food and asked, "Who were those two girls just now? Why did they keep staring at us?"
Xu Lai shook her head: "I don't know her." She graduated four or five years ago, so she couldn't possibly be a junior from her school days.
As they finished their meal and prepared to leave with their trays, the two men finally mustered the courage to approach and ask, "Are you Xu Lai, the short video blogger?"
Xu Lai was taken aback, then smiled and replied, "Yes, I am Xu Lai. You guys actually found my video."
One of the girls said, "I've been following you since the tofu-making episode. I find your videos particularly healing. Every time I watch them, it feels like I'm briefly back at my grandma's house."
Xu Lai put down the plate and started chatting with them. The two were even more excited when they learned that she was actually a senior who had already graduated. At their request, Xu Lai took a group photo with them.
Thinking they were her fans, she went to a convenience store and bought a bunch of snacks for them. "I was in such a rush that I didn't have time to prepare any gifts. Message me later and I'll make it up to you."
The two girls waved their hands, saying, "No need, no need. We feel embarrassed to accept these things."
The two of them ran to the fruit shop and bought some fruit for Xu Lai. "Senior, this is a return gift for you. Thank you for the snacks."
Before leaving, the two fans said, "Senior, we hope you can keep filming. We will always support you."
Xia Ning exclaimed, "I never expected to meet fans at school."
Xu Lai never expected that, despite not having filmed many videos showing her face, someone would be able to recognize her so easily.
The two stayed in City B for two days and then went back. The machine would be in place within a week, and the oil yield issue was finally resolved.
When Zhao Qingyun met Zhao Qingxi, she was quite surprised. She asked, "Yesterday we hosted two guests from Shangxi Village who are agricultural product sellers. I really admire them. I wanted to ask if you know them?"
Zhao Qingyun chuckled: "You really know how to pick people, that's my girlfriend."
Zhao Qingxi exclaimed, "Ah!" and asked, "Who is it?"
Zhao Qingyun couldn't help but laugh. "Her surname is Xu."
Zhao Qingyun said "Oh," because she thought he would say the prettiest one, but he didn't. Instead, he introduced her directly. That's just how he is; he doesn't elevate himself or those around him by belittling others.
Zhao Qingxi picked up the watering can and watered the plants. She asked, "So, are you planning to bring your girlfriend back to visit us during the New Year? Your grandparents are very worried about your marriage. Now that you have a girlfriend, you should let them meet her."
Zhao Qingyun pondered for a moment and said, "That depends on Xu Lai's opinion. Besides, I'm with her not because my family is pressuring me. If my marriage partner isn't someone I like, even if they hold a knife to my throat, I won't waver in the slightest."
Zhao Qingxi understood. Her younger brother was either completely uninterested in anything, or once he started to blossom, he was serious about it.
Before hanging up, she said, "You have good taste; she's excellent."
Before going home, Zhao Qingyun went to the flower shop and bought her a bouquet of flowers. He used to deliver them once a week, but later he noticed that the flowers in her vase were all withered, so he would buy new ones to replace them.
When he got home, Xu Lai had just arrived home as well. She hadn't cooked for a while, and since her grandmother's legs were a little uncomfortable that evening, she went into the kitchen.
In just over forty minutes, three dishes and a soup were ready: stir-fried pork with chili peppers, pan-fried tofu, braised pork ribs, and seaweed and egg drop soup.
Xia Ning helped set the table, and Xu Lai brought the dishes to the table, inviting her grandparents to sit down and eat.
After the meal, she took out the medicated oil and massaged her grandmother. Her grandmother had injured her legs when she was young, and now that she was old, her legs would easily ache when the weather got cold.
She pressed on it carefully and instructed, "Don't go visiting others these next few days. Just stay home. The weather is getting colder now, and your legs must be hurting."
Grandma nodded: "I know."
Xu Lai put away the medicated oil, turned around and left the room. She was a little worried. Her grandmother's illness could not be cured completely; she could only take good care of her.
She returned to her room and found a bouquet of flowers on her bedside table. Her mood brightened, and she hugged the flowers and smelled them.
She temporarily postponed her bathing plan, dismantled the flowers, and put them in a vase.
When she came out after taking a shower, there was already someone sitting on the bed. Zhao Qingyun was holding a book and leaning against the headboard reading.
Xu Lai dried her hair and went over to him, taking off his glasses. "Who let you come up here?"
Zhao Qingyun hugged him, "I came here shamelessly, will you accept me?"
Xu Lai lifted his chin. "Depending on your performance, you'd better dry my hair first."
Zhao Qingyun took a hairdryer, adjusted it to alternate between hot and cold air, and dried her hair, carefully untangling any knots.
Xu Lai was almost falling asleep because of him; she really enjoyed the feeling of someone playing with her hair.
A moment later, the hairdryer stopped, and Xu Lai opened her eyes. "Is it done?"
Zhao Qingyun hummed in agreement, put away the hairdryer, took hair oil from her dressing table, squeezed it into her palm, rubbed it in, and applied it to the ends of her hair.
Xu Lai turned around, lay on top of him, and let Zhao Qingyun do as he pleased.
He carried him to bed, kissed his forehead, and said, "You must be tired today, get some rest."
Although Xu Lai was sleepy, she couldn't help but think that they had been together for two or three months. He usually just kissed her, and even when they were aroused, he hadn't taken the final step.
She couldn't help but wonder if Zhao Qingyun was impotent; if he was, then it just meant he didn't like her that much.
As Xu Laidong pondered these thoughts, her drowsiness gradually dissipated, and she couldn't resist reaching her hand inside his clothes to touch his abs.
Zhao Qingyun grabbed her hand, "Stop making a fuss."
Xu Lai couldn't help but ask, "Do you have any old customs?"
Zhao Qingyun asked, puzzled, "Why do you ask that?"
Xu Lai said seriously, "Then why, after being together for so long, do you still play platonic games with me?"
Zhao Qingyun was silent for a moment, then laughed, "Xu Lai, you better be joking."
Xu Lai wasn't afraid of him; she hadn't prepared anything at home, so she'd see what he did.
Zhao Qingyun got up, climbed over the wall and went back to the next room. Xu Lai thought he was angry, so she also got up, stood on the balcony, and called out, "Don't be angry, I was just joking."
Zhao Qingyun had already taken the items out, stuffed them into his pocket, then turned them back over and pinched her chin. "It's too late."
Xu Lai wanted to say something, but her voice was muffled between their lips.
