Chapter 39 Crayfish

Xu Lai shook her head and said, "They don't have names yet." She hadn't had time to name them after finding them, and she didn't know what names to give them.

Zhao Qingyun thought for a moment and said, "How about I take one?"

Xu Lai gestured for him to speak, and Zhao Qingyun placed his hand on the car, tapped it, and then made a decision: "Laifu, how about it?"

Xu Lai gave her a look that seemed to say, "Are you serious?" Zhao Qingyun chuckled and said, "No, don't think it's corny. This name has a lot of meaning."

Xu Lai remained silent, watching him with amusement, wondering what kind of tricks he would come up with. She pursed her lips and said somewhat speechlessly, "Believe it or not, if you call out to Laifu, half the dogs in the village will respond."

Zhao Qingyun touched his nose and explained, "I saw it by chance before. Lai Fu, live means life."

After hearing this explanation, Xu Lai suddenly realized how rude she had been to think the name was so corny.

She scratched her head, somewhat conflicted, unsure which puppy to name.

Zhao Qingyun opened the car door and told her to get in: "Let's go home first, we can pick it up on the way."

Xu Lai fastened her seatbelt, her eyebrows furrowed, and she muttered something to herself. She was selecting her generals, something she used to do often: "Whoever's name is called, that's who they get."

She pointed to the little black dog; the other dog was also black, but its front paws were white.

Xu Lai considered it for a moment, feeling that she couldn't name it too fancy, as that wouldn't be fair to the other puppy. Then, just before getting out of the car, she decided on the name, "I'll call you Little Black."

Grandpa had been waiting at the door for a long time. When he saw them come back, he went to the trunk to help them get the things. Xu Lai carried all the ingredients to the kitchen. She poured the crayfish into a large basin. Grandma came over to look and said in surprise, "Oh my, you bought so many crayfish! Will we be able to finish them all?"

Xu Lai added some salt, carried the basin to the well, and filled it with water.

She grabbed a few old toothbrushes, moved a small chair, and started scrubbing the crayfish. Her grandma sat down and helped her, muttering, "We bought so many, how are we going to finish them all? It'll take forever to scrub them."

Xu Lai said with a smile, "Grandma, don't worry about wasting food. Grandma Jiang is also coming to eat, and Xiao Zhao will come to help later."

Zhao Qingyun went home, changed into casual clothes, rolled up his sleeves, and was about to go next door when Grandma Jiang stopped him and asked, "Where are you going? Aren't you going to cook?"

Zhao Qingyun pushed the old lady's shoulder and walked out, saying as they went, "Xu Lai invited you to eat crayfish. We won't cook tonight."

Grandma Jiang slapped his hand and complained, "Why didn't you say so earlier? It's not good to go empty-handed."

Zhao Qingyun winced in pain and said helplessly, "Don't you know Xu Lai's personality? If you give her money, she'll buy something and bring it to you in the next second. She's more dedicated than a personal shopper."

He coaxed and persuaded her to go over there. They were still cooking crayfish over there. Zhao Qingyun took the brush from Grandma Xu and said, "Grandma, you go and chat with my grandma. I'll do it."

Grandma Jiang stood there watching, calling out her grandmother's name: "Xiuying, it's annoying to let this boy do the work."

Xu Lai chuckled to herself. Zhao Qingyun's legs were wide open, but the stool was too low for him to bend his legs. He picked up a crayfish with a large claw and held it up to Xu Lai's face, intending to scare her.

She simply looked up expressionlessly and said, "Don't be so childish. Hurry up and get to work. At this rate, you won't be able to eat by eight o'clock."

Zhao Qingyun was startled. It seemed that he was different in front of Xu Lai than he was in front of others. In other people's eyes, he was more serious and had nothing to do with the word "childish".

It took the two of them nearly an hour to prepare the four pounds of shrimp. Xu Lai cut two cucumbers, intending to stir-fry them together.

She also filmed a video today, but her traffic has been declining recently, which is causing her some distress.

"First, we fry the crayfish until fragrant, then take them out. Leave some oil in the pan, add the crayfish seasoning, add the crayfish back in, stir-fry evenly, then add beer and bring to a boil."

Today's portion was large, and she used a wood-fired stove. The fumes made Xu Lai cough. She wiped the sweat from her forehead with her sleeve, put the cucumbers in, then put them in a large bowl, and the crayfish were ready.
