Zhao Qingyun smiled inexplicably, suddenly finding the drunk Xu Lai quite amusing. Normally, she was always dignified and generous, wearing a shell, and no one would have imagined that she had this side to her.
While talking to her, he didn't stop washing the dishes. After cleaning them, he said while wiping his hands, "Xu Lai, you're drunk. Go upstairs and rest."
Xu Lai leaned against the desk, rubbed her temples, and said, "I told you I wasn't drunk! I just don't believe you."
Zhao Qingyun had one hand on his hip and the other covering his forehead, secretly chuckling to himself.
Grandpa and Grandma finished cleaning up the trash in the main room. Not seeing Xu Lai, they assumed she had gone upstairs first and went back to their room to rest.
Seeing the door close, Zhao Qingyun reached out and tugged at Xu Lai's sleeve, asking, "Shall I take you back to your room?"
Xu Lai nodded: "Let's go then."
She took the lead and walked forward, but she became dizzy and almost bumped into the kitchen door. Zhao Qingyun pulled her back, put his hand on her shoulder, and pushed her forward.
Xu Lai felt very uncomfortable. She turned around, hugged the person behind her, and rubbed against him, clearly treating him as her pillow.
Zhao Qingyun opened his arms, somewhat at a loss. Looking at the girl's fluffy hair, he felt a little itchy. He limply lowered his hand and said, "Hey, don't take advantage of me. What if you don't remember tomorrow? Who am I supposed to complain to?"
Xu Lai found him too talkative and said impatiently, "Shut up, it's too noisy."
Zhao Qingyun pinched the bridge of his nose, then picked him up and carried him upstairs.
He threw the person onto the bed, turned around and went out, downstairs, out of the yard, back to his room, and closed the door.
Zhao Qingyun's movement was incredibly smooth. He leaned against the door, his chest trembling slightly. Looking at his own reaction, he smiled helplessly: "Damn it, just a little bump, and I'm this excited."
It was getting late, so he took his pajamas to take a shower. His face was clearly reflected in the bathroom mirror, and upon closer inspection, there was a small tooth mark on his right cheek.
Zhao Qingyun took a longer bath than usual. He cleaned himself up, and the cold water made him more awake. A chill spread around him.
Xu Lai woke up thirsty in the middle of the night, her throat was dry. She went downstairs and drank a large glass of water before she felt a little better.
She didn't have amnesia from drinking; she vaguely remembered that Zhao Qingyun carried her back to her room. "Honestly, he didn't even bother to prepare a glass of water for me. It's obvious he's never been drunk before."
After Xu Lai finished drinking her water, she went upstairs and went back to sleep. The other person, Zhao Qingyun, who was separated by two walls, was wide awake. He stared at the ceiling, seemingly lost in thought.
At five o'clock in the morning, a rooster crowed. Zhao Qingyun rubbed his temples. He had barely slept last night, and that image was the only thing he could see when he closed his eyes.
He got up and ran around the village twice. When he came back, he ran into Xu Lai opening the gate. She greeted him with a smile, "Good morning!"
Zhao Qingyun's face darkened instantly. "Early? What do you mean 'early'? I haven't slept all night, and you're so refreshed."
He nodded slightly in response. Xu Lai was a little confused. What was wrong with him? Why was he suddenly so cold and inexplicable?
Today was the last day of packing, so she first went to the village committee and then went to the market to buy groceries.
It had been a long time since she had eaten rice noodles at Grandma Yunxiu's shop. She bought the groceries and then went to the noodle shop.
"Grandma, a bowl of rice noodles," Xu Lai called out.
"Okay, it'll be ready soon."
Less than a minute later, Grandma called Xu Lai to bring the rice noodles. When she saw it was her, she said in surprise, "I haven't seen you in a while. My daughter-in-law was watching your live stream yesterday."
Xu Lai smiled sheepishly, about to say something, but then someone else came to order food, and Grandma went back to work.
There was a fan in the shop, but she still ate until her forehead was sweating. When she was almost finished, Xu Lai called out, "Grandma, pack five servings of soup noodles for me."
After Xu Lai finished eating, the noodles were packed up and she paid for them, saying, "Grandma, I'll bring you peaches next time I come over."
She drove all the way to the village committee, handed the breakfast to Uncle Guiping and said, "Uncle, could you help me distribute this? See who hasn't eaten yet, and take a portion for them."
She got home early and took out her phone. Remembering that she had promised her fans a giveaway during yesterday's live stream, she opened her following list and followed back some familiar IDs.
In less than ten minutes, she had drawn the winners and announced it in the comments section of her latest work: "Congratulations to these fans, remember to send me your address."
She refreshed the comments section, and people started replying one after another:
"Oh my god, I won! Thank you, Xiao Lai, for watching from the very first entry until now."
"I cried because I only watched and didn't comment!"
"The blogger is really fast, not dragging their feet at all."
Xu Lai felt heartened. She has many fans who have been with her all this time, and she is determined to repay them with an even better performance.
As of 2 p.m. today, the last batch of peaches has been packed and is ready to be loaded onto trucks for shipment.
Xu Lai looked at the orders from the same address with some doubt. Was she sure she hadn't ordered the wrong thing? Three hundred orders, how long would it take to finish eating?
There was also an address for Hengxian County. She muttered, "Why bother with all this? It's all from the same place. If I want to eat it, I can just come and pick it."
Suddenly, an idea struck her: why not set up a self-service picking garden? Although there are quite a few such projects in their village, few people from other places know about them, so business is not good.
After Xu Lai finished her busy period, she had some free time. A day later, she saw someone reviewing the products.
"This peach is really delicious. It's big and red, unlike the ones in the market that are artificially colored."
"The peaches have arrived, and my family thinks they're delicious. We'd like to place another order. Do you have any left?"
I think it's just so-so.
Xu Lai read through all the reviews and found no complaints about rotten or bad fruit, so she was relieved. If there were any, she would have to deal with them later.
A few days later, the buyers confirmed receipt of their goods and the money arrived in their accounts. Xu Lai went to the bank to withdraw the cash and gave it to Grandma Juying first.
"Grandma, this is the money from selling peaches. After deducting labor costs, it's a total of 22,000. Please keep it."
Grandma Juying didn't know the details, she just let her sit down, then took an envelope from the cabinet and handed it to her.
Xu Lai opened it and saw that it contained money. She quickly returned it, saying, "Grandma, I helped you not for the money."
Grandma Juying's tone was a little stiff: "Take it. If it weren't for your help, all my peaches would have rotted on the tree. If you don't take them, don't come back again."
Xu Lai had no choice but to accept it. She then went to the homes of several other scattered garden owners, gave them the money, and received red envelopes in return.
Finally, there was Xu Shen. Some money hadn't arrived yet, so Xu Lai gave him a portion, saying, "I'll transfer it to you once all the money is in your account."
Xu Shen squeezed the stack of cash and said, "If I had known, you would have just transferred it to my account directly. Why did you have to withdraw the money?"
Xu Lai explained, "Have you forgotten that most of the people in our village are elderly and don't use mobile phones much? Cash is certainly more convenient for them."
