Xia Ning wanted to eat the noodles from the noodle shop she used to go to in high school. Xu Lai smiled and said, "Dumplings before getting on the bus, noodles upon getting off the bus, that's exactly what I was thinking."
She ordered a bowl of egg noodles as usual, Xia Ning ordered a bowl of beef noodles, and the two of them also ordered a bowl of local chicken soup.
When the noodles were served, Xia Ning took a bite and exclaimed, "It still tastes just like this!"
After eating and drinking her fill, Xu Lai went to the large supermarket to shop. She hadn't been home for several days, and her grandparents probably only went to the market once, so she planned to buy some groceries to take back with her.
Xia Ning had already told her grandmother that she would be going home tonight. She also wanted to experience rural life. When she was young, she always wanted to escape the countryside, but now that she's older, she wants to go home to retire.
They took a bus back home, then called a tricycle to take them to the village. Xia Ning went home first to tidy up her room, and then came over for dinner in the evening.
Xu Lai pushed open the courtyard gate, and Lai Fu and Xiao Hei shouted at her twice. Then, seeing who it was, they ran to her feet and circled around her.
Xu Lai patted their heads and said, "Long time no see."
Grandma heard the noise and came out of the main room. "Oh my little Lai, you're finally back!"
Xu Lai hugged her grandmother: "Grandma, I'm back. I missed you so much."
Not seeing her grandfather, she asked, "Where did Grandpa go? I can't see him."
Grandma pointed to Uncle San's side and said, "He went to play cards. It's hot now, so he can't do farm work and just plays all day."
Xu Lai thought that her grandfather had done a good job. What was the point of working so hard all his life? He had worked hard all his life. Now that he was old, he should enjoy his life.
She pointed to the vegetables on the ground and said to her grandmother, "I'll cook something delicious for you tonight."
Grandma's smile deepened: "Good, good, I have no appetite when you're not home."
Xu Lai smiled and said, "Then you should eat more tonight."
