Chapter 78 Selling Grapes

When Xu Lai went inside, she found that the variety of grapes was quite complete, including Kyoho, Shine Muscat, green grapes, and red grapes.

She was a little excited: "You had such a big piece of land and you didn't tell me. I only found out now."

Xu Shen: "Keep it low-key. I only started doing this in the last few years. Last year, I harvested some fruit, and I sold them all. The price wasn't high, so I broke even."

Xu Lai reached out her hand to him, but Xu Shen dodged backward. "What are you doing?"

"Get the basket and scissors," Xu Lai urged.

Xu Shen brought her two baskets, and Xu Lai cut two or three bunches of each variety. She saw a bunch of grapes with both red and green colors and thought it was a new variety. Just as she was about to cut it, Xu Shen said leisurely, "My goodness, this isn't ripe yet, why are you cutting it?"

Xu Lai was a little embarrassed. She picked up the scissors and aimed them at him, having been so focused on cutting the grapes that she forgot to trim him.

She picked two full baskets before she was satisfied, then patted the water off her hands and said, "What do you want from me? Tell me."

Xu Shen rubbed his hands together and said, "Could you help us promote this vineyard? We thought about having fruit picking last year, but no one came. Also, could you help us buy some online?"

Xu Lai peeled a grape, took a bite, and said, "That's normal. I also became popular because of the traffic brought by short videos."

"Will you help me with this?" Xu Shen asked.

Xu Lai thought for a moment: "What can I get in return?"

What do you want?

"I can pick them whenever I want, how about it?" Xu Lai's eyes lit up.

Xu Shen nodded: "Whatever you say."

Xu Lai carried a basket in each hand as she walked home. Selling grapes was an option, but she needed to design the packaging to see which method would be best for delivering the grapes fresh to consumers.

When I was almost home, I saw Zhao Qingyun's car drive by and stop at the gate of the yard.

The two hadn't seen each other for two days. He closed the car door, came over to help her carry her things, and asked, "Where did all these grapes come from?"

Xu Lai immediately freed her hands, saying, "These are from Xu Shen's vineyard. Perfect, take some of everything to eat."

Zhao Qingyun brought the grapes to her house, and Xu Lai took a bag and put a few bunches in it for him. "Try them and see which one is the best."

He deliberately didn't take anything from the bag; instead, he plucked a few grapes from the bunch in her hand, peeled them, and put them in his mouth. The grapes were so juicy that Xu Lai could clearly see the water stains on his lips. She hated that her eyesight was too good.

Panicked and flustered, she looked away. Seeing that he had successfully seduced her, Zhao Qingyun smiled, picked up the bag, and took the string of pearls from her hand. "Let's go."

Xu Lai stood there stunned for a moment, then realized, "This person is really something, why does he have to take what I'm eating?"

She packed Xia Ning's portion and delivered it to her on her electric scooter. Xia Ning exclaimed in surprise, "Where did you buy these grapes? They're quite fresh."

Xu Lai smiled and said, "These were picked from Xu Shen's vineyard."

Xia Ning didn't believe it: "How come I didn't know he even had a vineyard?"

Xu Lai pointed to the greenhouse and said, "If you don't believe me, go and see for yourself. It's huge. He's going to shoot a promotional video tomorrow. He wants us to help him sell grapes."

Xia Ning readily agreed: "Okay."

The next morning, Xu Lai planted cucumber seedlings on the empty plot of land. In fact, many people in the village had stopped planting them by this time, but she wanted to eat them, and she hadn't had enough cucumbers this summer.

Then, after Xia Ning got up, they went to the vineyard to take pictures. As a result, she didn't take many pictures, but she ate quite a lot.

When Xu Lai reminded her for the third time, Xia Ning finally got back into the zone, quickly finished a few takes, and then called it a day.

Xia Ning picked up a bunch of grapes and ate them as she walked: "These grapes are really good, very fresh and sweet. I would definitely buy them if they were for sale."

Xu Lai looked at her with exasperation: "It took you all morning to finish filming. Were you tempted by the food?"

Xia Ning pleaded, "I promise I won't do it again next time. I've never been to a vineyard before, and I got a little excited when I saw so many grapes."

After the video was edited, Xu Lai showed it to Xu Shen before posting it online with the location marked. Xu Shen also arranged for staff to receive the guests.

Xu Shen set the prices for on-site picking: Kyoho and red grapes were seven yuan per jin, Shine Muscat grapes were nine yuan per jin, and green grapes were six yuan per jin.

Xu Lai nodded; the price seemed reasonable. She asked, "What price are you planning to set online?"

Xu Shen had never done live streaming before, but he knew that online prices would definitely be cheaper than picking on-site, otherwise netizens wouldn't buy it.

He seemed troubled: "What do you think?"

Xu Lai thought for a moment and said, "Let's make it one yuan cheaper than picking it on-site. After all, there are also costs for express delivery and packaging, right?"

"I'll do as you say," Xu Shen decided.

After returning home, Xu Lai began drawing blueprints. She designed a simple sketch with pictures of all the grape varieties in the vineyard, as well as the stream in Shangxi Village.

She encountered a problem when it came to the internal packaging, because the weight and volume of each grape are different. If all of them were made into standard fixed frames, slightly larger grapes would not fit.

She bit her pen, unsure where to begin; making more designs would increase costs.

She sent a message to Zhao Qingyun: "Do you have any good suggestions regarding the internal fixed frame?"

Someone in the office received the message, pushed the documents aside, and began to think seriously.

A short while later, he replied: "[You can tell the manufacturer to make it detachable. If the bunch of grapes is a bit big, you can remove the excess cardboard until it fits.]"

Xu Lai: [Okay, thank you for your guidance.]

zhao: [You're welcome.]

Xu Lai acted quickly. After Xu Shen reviewed the drawings and had no objections, she contacted the manufacturer she had been working with, and the box would arrive in a couple of days.

She hung the grapes on her car and commented that anyone who wanted some could go and order them, as there weren't many left and she wouldn't be doing a live stream.

Her fan count is almost up to 300,000, so Xu Lai is going to hold another giveaway, drawing 50 lucky fans to each receive a box of peaches and a box of grapes.

After finishing this busy period, she had some free time again. All the orders that had been placed had been shipped out. Once you're familiar with something, you get used to it. Besides, she doesn't have to worry about withholding wages. Every time she sells goods, she doesn't need to find anyone; she already has a regular team to help her with the work.

Xu Lai set up a giveaway in the comments section. It was her first time doing something like this, and anyone who followed her could enter.

She picked some small cantaloupes from her garden, put a few in each box, and even wrote a card by hand.

When Zhao Qingyun arrived home, there was nowhere to step in his yard, and there was a huge pile of peaches in a basket.

He was puzzled. "Where did these peaches come from?"

At this moment, Xu Lai's head peeked out from behind the tall stack of cardboard boxes. "Mine, mine, I'm packing gifts for my fans. My place is full too, so I told Grandma Jiang and moved them to your side."
