Chapter 98 Sense of Ritual

When Xu Lai came out of the shower, she found that Zhao Qingyun had sent her two messages.

"girlfriend."

"What should I do? I can't seem to fall asleep."

Xu Lai smiled and said, "Then don't sleep."

The other party sent a crying emoji, and Xu Lai felt that his public image had completely collapsed.

The next morning, Xu Lai borrowed Xu Shen's car and went to the next town to pick up her grandparents. She also bought some cigarettes, alcohol, and milk, as her last visit had been too rushed and she should make up for it this time.

Her aunt even offered to let her stay at her house for a couple of days, but Xu Lai declined, saying, "There are still chickens, ducks, geese and dogs at home, and no one is looking after them. I've already troubled the neighbors for several days. I'll come over to visit again next time I have the chance."

After saying that, she smiled and asked her cousin, "Hanhan, are you going to stay at Grandma's house for a couple of days?"

Song Han's eyes lit up when she heard this. When she was little, she loved playing with this cousin and would follow her around whenever she went to her grandmother's house.

The aunt looked at her daughter and asked for her opinion. Song Han nodded: "Okay, okay, I haven't been to my grandma's house in a long time."

Song Han packed her clothes and got into the car, so there was one more person on the way home.

Xu Lai and Song Han chatted enthusiastically, and she learned that Song Han had just turned eighteen this summer and had been admitted to a university in the province. School would start in another half month.

She arrived home safely, and it was almost noon. She cooked dinner first, and then settled Song Han in her place.

At noon, she planned to make stir-fried green beans with pork and braised pork ribs. Considering that Song Han was here, she also bought half a chicken to make a small stir-fried chicken.

Xu Lai didn't call Xia Ning over. Just as she was about to take out her phone to record a video, Song Han leaned against the door frame and said, "Sister, let me film it for you."

Xu Lai nodded: "Okay, I'll teach you how to take the picture."

Song Han shook her head: "It's okay, I know how to use it. I plan to save up and buy one myself when I go to university."

As Xu Lai washed the vegetables, she asked, "You like photography?"

Song Han's eyes lit up: "I really like it. I hope to capture the most beautiful moment of everything in the world so that it can be preserved forever. When I see the photos, I can remember the scene at that time."

Xu Lai affirmed, "Your idea is great. Here's what we'll do: you can choose whichever camera you want, and I'll give it to you as a gift for your college entrance exam."

Song Han was both excited and embarrassed. "Let's forget it. It's a bit expensive. I'll save up and buy it myself."

Xu Lai insisted, "It's okay, you don't need to feel burdened. I can still afford a camera."

Song Han said earnestly, "Then thank you, sister. I will definitely take lots of beautiful photos and make sure your money isn't wasted."

Xu Lai understood that children Song Han's age often want expensive things, and given that her aunt's family wasn't wealthy, she would consider many things and ultimately wouldn't dare to ask her family.

Back when she was in college, let alone graduation gifts, even tuition was a problem. Now she has the ability to fulfill Hanhan's wish, consider it as her treating her to a meal from back then.

After dinner, she planned to make up Song Han's bed, but Xu Lai pointed to Xu Yan's room and said, "How about staying in Xiao Yan's room?"

Song Han nodded: "Anywhere is fine, you can arrange it."

Xu Lai took out the bedding from the cabinet, made the bed, put on the pillowcases, and finally smoothed out the wrinkles, saying, "They're all clean and washed, not the ones Xiao Yan used to sleep in."

Song Han was about to rest for a while when Xu Lai closed the door and said, "Come and call me if you need anything. I'm right next door. I'll take you to the orchard after the sun goes down."

By evening, Xu Lai took Song Han to the orchard. There were still some fruits hanging in the vineyard, but not a single yellow peach.

Xu Lai handed her a basket: "Let's go in and pick some grapes. Don't worry about picking them, they all belong to your brother Xu Shen, they're all on him."

Song Han rarely experienced fruit picking. As soon as she entered, she wanted this bunch and that bunch, and in no time, her basket was more than half full.

With their basket full of grapes, the two went home satisfied. Xu Lai tried to take the grapes, saying, "Let me do it, these are a bit heavy."

Song Han moved to the other side: "It's okay, I'm quite strong, don't underestimate me, sis."

Xu Lai had no hands, so she picked a foxtail grass and tied it in her hand. She wrapped it tightly around her head when she was a child.

As they neared home, Zhao Qingyun's car pulled up at the gate. Song Han exclaimed in surprise, "A Bentley? Are there really that many rich people in the village?"

Xu Lai couldn't help but laugh and explained, "He's the grandson of Grandma Jiang next door, from City B, um," she paused, "you could say he's a rich kid."

Song Han nodded: "It looks expensive."

As they chatted, they arrived at their doorstep. Song Han went inside to put out the grapes first, while Zhao Qingyun took out a bouquet of roses from the back seat and walked over to Xu Lai. "These are for you. Yesterday's confession was too rushed, so I'm making up for it today. We need to have a sense of ceremony."

Xu Lai took it; there was a gift box on top. She smiled and said, "We're already together, so what, are you afraid I'll change my mind?"

Zhao Qingyun took her hand and stroked it, "That's not necessarily true."

He leaned in to kiss her, but Xu Lai covered his mouth. "Stop it, let's talk about it tonight. We're still at our doorstep."

Zhao Qingyun left looking aggrieved. Xu Lai didn't like him. She didn't object to physical intimacy in a private space, but with so many people coming and going at the gate and so many villagers gossiping, she decided to skip it.

She carried the flowers back, and Song Han exclaimed, "Wow, what beautiful flowers! Who sent them?"

Xu Lai kept him in suspense: "Guess?"

Song Han remembered the man at the door, and her gossipy nature was ignited: "Is he that Bentley owner, sis? Is he pursuing you?"

Xu Lai smiled and said, "I think so."

After dinner, Song Han came over with her tablet. She pointed to several cameras on it and said, "Sister, I don't know which one to choose. I think they each have their own advantages."

Xu Lai put down her phone, took the tablet, and said, "Let me see."

After comparing them, she felt that both Canon and Sony were quite good, and the prices were not much different. So she said, "I think these two are okay. You can decide which one you want, or we can buy both and compare them. Keep whichever one you like."

Song Han didn't want to trouble her, so she said, "No need to go to so much trouble, just use Canon."

Xu Lai sent the link to her phone and promptly placed an order.

At that moment, a message popped up on WeChat: Zhao Qingyun: "I want to come over."

Xu Lai glanced at Song Han, who wasn't paying attention to them, and replied, "It's not convenient. My cousin is in her room. We'll talk later."

Zhao Qingyun's agitated mind calmed down. He put down his phone and hurriedly did thirty push-ups in his bedroom.

Song Han stayed and chatted with Xu Lai. She was quite worried about university life, so she asked some questions about university.

Zhao Qingyun waited until ten o'clock, but there was still no news. He was about to go to sleep when there was a sound from the balcony.
