Angry
The young couple returned home as the sun set.
Cui Zhijun got off the carriage before Tai Shi Zheng and stood quietly in the light and shadow. He turned his head carefully to see the person sticking his head out from under the curtain, stretched out his hand and waited silently.
Before Zheng got out of the car, seeing him waiting, she gently placed her hand on his wrist. But Cui Zhijun stepped back slightly, letting Taishi Zheng's hand slip away. Zheng was startled by Cui Zhijun's action. Looking at her arm, which had been inexplicably left hanging in the air, she pouted and complained, "What are you doing? If you don't want to help me, why are you reaching out?"
Cui Zhijun glanced at her and didn't explain.
He just silently stretched out his arm, without consulting anyone in the car, and unscrupulously put his arm around her waist and carried her down.
Zheng gently rose and landed gently. The carriage was high, and Zheng clung to Cui Zhijun's shoulders, still in shock.
Angry at Cui Zhijun's silence, she threw a tantrum, raised her hand, and shoved him away. Zheng simply said, "Cui Erlang, you scared me. Next time you want to hug me, can you please just say so? Being sneaky and silent is ungentlemanly—"
Cui Zhijun couldn't help laughing when he saw the angry look on the person in front of him.
Zheng stared at him, wondering what had become of him lately? He hadn't smiled even when she'd tried to make him laugh. She'd even assumed he couldn't laugh!
Dusk has arrived and the birds are flying south.
The young couple stared at each other, neither of them speaking first.
But Cui Zhijun was a grown man, and he couldn't compete with anyone, not even his own wife. So, Cui Erlang, who always refused to beg for mercy, was the first to take Taishi Zheng's hand and gently said, "Madam, I will remember your words. Let's go and see Grandmother."
Zheng snorted, "That's more like it, let's go."
The young couple held hands and were about to go to the mansion. Unexpectedly, at this moment, the sound of horses' hooves could be heard in the distance.
Zheng has the most sensitive ears.
She turned her head and saw the long street full of dust. In the endless dust, a mighty soldier wearing red lacquered mountain-patterned armor and a ring-handled straight sword on his waist appeared in a trance. He was riding a horse and waving a whip, rushing towards her with the momentum of breaking the enemy. Passersby retreated one after another.
Zheng wondered what had happened.
But when the man stopped his horse in front of the Bo's house, Zheng was even more bewildered. She looked at the man in front of her with confusion, and couldn't figure out who this tall, mighty, and handsome soldier was?
Cui Zhijun, however, looked at the man beside her and said suddenly, "Brother, you're back."
Oh, it’s Big Brother…
Zheng nodded blankly, but she exclaimed in disbelief: "Ah? This is my eldest brother——"
Cui Zhijian received a message from home this morning saying that the old lady was ill.
After the training, he rushed to Bian Jing without stopping.
I think he's probably the only one in the manor who cares so much about the old lady. Those who are hypocritical and want to take advantage of the situation to show off their power have already fled. But after all, who can blame him for being raised by the old lady herself?
The old lady's partiality is also obvious to everyone.
Even though no one says anything, how can there be no complaints?
Cui Zhijian responded with a serious expression, his worry clearly visible. He ignored Taishi Zheng's words and simply said, "I'm back to see the old lady. Come on, go in," and hurried out the door.
The young couple sighed and hurried after him.
-
But from the moment Cui Zhijun entered the mansion, he kept arguing that Taishi Zheng didn't need to go with him, and told her to go back to her room and rest. But Zheng refused to listen and instead, she grabbed Cui Zhijun's arm and followed him all the way to Fushou Pavilion.
"Xiao Zheng, you better go back obediently. It will be inconvenient for the old lady to have so many people with her."
Cui Zhijun seemed to be worried about her because he had hurt her last night. Zheng shook her head and stubbornly insisted on pestering Cui Zhijun: "I don't want to. If the old lady thinks there are too many people, I can wait for you outside. I don't want to go back first, is this not okay?"
Up ahead, Cui Zhijian saw Fushou Pavilion approaching and heard the young couple mumbling behind him. He suddenly stopped, his hand on the hilt of the sword slung across his waist, and looked back at the people behind him. "Alright, since you've pushed it this far, I'll make the decision for you. Let's go in together."
Cui Zhijian said this and turned away.
The sound of the sword hitting his armor with mountain patterns was cold and sharp, and it was murderous in all directions.
Oh my god, that’s scary.
Zheng was frightened by Cui Zhijian's ferocious appearance and hid behind Cui Zhijun.
She felt a chill down her spine, and tugged at Cui Zhijun's sleeve. Zheng asked carefully, "Erlang, is Big Brother angry? Why does Big Brother seem different today? Or am I just misinterpreting it?"
Cui Zhijun reached out and touched his wife's palm, pulled her close to him, shook his head and explained, "It has nothing to do with us. As soon as Big Brother puts on this armor, he will be a completely different person. Just get used to it. Let's go. Since you don't want to go back, let's go in together."
"But are you really okay?"
If you have nothing to do, go back and continue working.
Cui Zhijun looked up at her.
Zheng found it unbelievable and turned to look at Cui Zhijun.
Tsk tsk, these brothers are really the same, they only know the appearance but not the heart, he is not as good as the outsider...
Wait, what does Cui Erlang mean by this look?
Zheng responded: "Cui Erlang, how many times do you want me to tell you - I'm fine!" But she had no intention of finalizing her "ending" tonight.
She's finished.
At that time, the couple had different thoughts, but their eyes were entangled with each other, unable to part.
Cui Zhijian turned around helplessly and asked sternly, "Second Brother, are you still going?"
Seeing this, the young couple sighed again and hurried into the Fushou Pavilion.
-
The younger generation visited, and the old lady's bedside was unusually harmonious, no one stirring up trouble in the room anymore. Although the old lady's speech was unclear and she couldn't express her feelings, after this illness, she was no longer as arbitrary and domineering as before.
Outside, Cang Yi happened to be leading the servants from the kitchen to serve the old lady dinner. When he saw Cui Zhijian, he asked, "Da Lang, why are you back?"
Cui Zhijian, dusty and exhausted, sat on the edge of the bed. Only when he glanced up at Cang Yi did he finally manage to smile. He wisely stood up and helped his wife with the chores. "My mother sent someone to tell me that the old lady was ill. So I asked my boss for leave and rushed back to see her."
As they were talking, Zheng wanted to go and help, but was stopped by Cang Yi, "Zheng, sit down and rest."
After Cang Yi finished speaking, he turned around and said to Cui Zhijian, "Well, Dalang, have you had dinner yet? If not, I'll ask the kitchen to prepare some, and we can have dinner together at the old lady's place today. Seeing her there will make her happy, too."
Cui Zhijian nodded, "Thank you for your hard work."
Wow, so polite, really courteous.
Can you please keep this set of Shanwen armor on me, brother? Don’t take it off!
Zheng widened her eyes and observed Cui Zhijian's every move. He was really different from that silly and sometimes annoying big brother.
Cui Zhijun was helping the old lady up and didn't pay much attention to it.
"It's okay, just sit down, I'll tell someone to go right away." After Cang Yi Bu finished his meal, he turned around and walked out.
Zheng saw the opportunity and stepped forward to feed the old lady dinner, ready to go over and offer her respect. But just as she was about to step forward with joy, Cui Zhijun raised his hand and took her away, saying, "I'll feed grandma, you go sit over there."
Why do you let yourself sit?
Zheng pouted. Why was it never her turn to contribute?
But Cui Zhijun knew Zheng's nature, as someone who had never served anyone before, and he didn't want her to fail to show her filial piety and end up being blamed. So, in this family, he would do the work and she would enjoy the happiness.
Cui Zhijun was about to turn around with the bowl in his hand, but Cui Zhijian came over again.
The eldest wife's child was really filial. A bowl of rice passed through the hands of the old lady three times before it finally reached her mouth.
Look at how busy they were. They fed the old lady dinner, then sat down to eat dinner together. They worked until noon, when they told her to rest, and then they all left Fushou Pavilion. The two couples left the courtyard, walking back and forth along the path outside. Cang Yi looked up at Cui Zhijian and saw that her husband's face was full of fatigue.
Cang Yi asked softly, "It's so late, are you still going back to camp today?"
After hearing what his wife said, Cui Zhijian rubbed his aching neck and said, "If you don't want me to leave, I won't go back today."
Cui Zhijian's words had hidden meaning, but the people behind him might not understand.
As soon as Cang Yi heard it, he knew what he meant.
Cang Yi felt like she was being too nosy. She had no desire to wait on Cui Zhijian that night and then drag her weakened body to Fushou Pavilion during the day. She had been with Cui Zhijian for five or six years, and since their wedding night, she'd known his reckless behavior. Even if her body was fragile, Cang Yi figured she couldn't withstand his prolonged torment.
I dare not think about it, I really dare not think about it.
Cang Yi shook his head upon hearing this, and openly chased him away, "Then you should return to the camp. I have to take care of the old lady tomorrow, so I really can't take care of you."
Cui Zhijian sneered.
Look, he's teasing Cang Yi. The boss has given orders; Cui Zhijian must return today. Besides, if Cui Zhijian really disobeys orders and stays, he'll have too much energy after running around for half a day and continuing training tomorrow. Let's leave this matter for after everything is over.
Cui Zhijian responded: "Okay, then we'll talk about it when I get back."
Come back and talk about it?
Cang Yi gasped and pushed the man, urging him to hurry up. Cui Zhijian, however, laughed even harder. Tai Shi Zheng and Cui Zhijun frowned at each other behind them, wondering what kind of riddle the couple was playing...
-
We parted at the fork in the road, but two or three people were rushing here, shouting urgently.
The host was bewildered, and Cui Zhijian was the first to shout angrily, "Why are you shouting? Didn't you know that the old lady is ill now? If you disturb her, I will only hold you accountable."
Cang Yi persuaded Cui Zhijian, "Okay, Dalang, I know you are worried about the old lady, but don't blame him. Let's listen to what he has to say."
Cui Zhijian obeyed and restrained some of his vicious intentions.
One of the messengers then spoke tremblingly, "To answer your questions, there's a fight... a fight, a fight going on over at Lanchun Garden—the Second Madam is so angry she's about to hang herself. We simply can't stop her."
Zheng was dissatisfied when she heard this. "What? The old lady is already like this, and they are still making trouble? Will this second branch ever stop?"
"Yeah, why again..."
Cang Yi sighed and agreed with Tai Shi Zheng's statement.
She wondered when the situation in the Bo Mansion would finally calm down. Could it be that they had to split up the family before they could finally find peace?
In the past, everyone blamed the Earl's wife for her domineering and overbearing ways, causing untold suffering within the Earl's household. Little did they know that many of these issues were actually provoked by the Second Wife. Furthermore, Yu Yuelan's straightforward nature and lack of embarrassment meant that the overall negative reputation ultimately fell on her. Having shouldered the blame for Chu Fanghua and Cui Banqin for so many years, Yu Yuelan no longer cared to defend herself. But now, karma had finally paid off. The Second Wife and the Third Aunt weren't wronged.
Just as the two sisters-in-law finished speaking, the sound of the ring-handled straight sword being unsheathed cut through the night sky, startling the birds in all directions.
In the dim candlelight, a hint of fierceness flashed across Cui Zhijian's armor.
He stood upright in the darkness, knife in hand, like a demonic messenger slaying evil, angrily snarling, "Is this going to stop? Ha, those who want to die will die, those who deserve to live will live. They've been making trouble for over a decade, and today I'm going to see if they'll ever stop—"
The accumulated resentment erupted.
After Cui Zhijian finished speaking, he frowned and glared, and without saying a word, he grabbed the messenger and headed towards Lanchun Garden.
The rest made people tremble with fear.
When Cang Yi saw Cui Zhijian's condition, he also cried out in panic, "It's bad, it's bad."
She knew that once Cui Zhijian got angry, even nine oxen could not stop him. Cang Yi was afraid that something might really happen, so she quickly left the two of them behind and went to chase him, "Cui Dalang, stop, don't go--"
Ke Zheng had never seen such a scene before. She only saw her terrified and looking to Cui Zhijun for help, "Erlang, Erlang. Big brother... he... what should we do, what should we do—" Cui Zhijun frowned as he looked at Cui Zhijian's resolutely leaving back, and calmly said to the people, "Let's go to the courtyard and ask for help."
