Chapter 68 Wang Deyi But regardless of whether they are gay...
However, whether it is a gay man or a lesbian, if they encounter domestic violence and seek help, the Women's Federation has a responsibility to provide assistance.
Mingxi led the person into the office, asked him to sit down, and poured a glass of warm water in front of him. The person didn't even look at the glass of water on the table, but stared straight at Mingxi.
Mingxi: "Comrade, are you reporting someone who has been a victim of domestic violence? Could you tell us the specific details?"
"I... I was abused by my wife." The man opposite him rolled up his sleeve, revealing bloody scratches on his arm: "These are all from her!"
The air in the office seemed to freeze instantly. Several female colleagues leaned over. Yu Xiaomin: "What? You? You were abused by your lover?"
It's not that men can't be victims of domestic violence, but the power imbalance between men and women is quite significant. Looking at the man in front of me, although he's relatively small compared to other men his age, he's still a man, after all. He doesn't seem like the type to be abused by his wife.
Sister Wang, a professional mediator of family relationships, gave the man a suspicious look and said, "Comrade, when couples live together, friction and arguments are inevitable, and physical altercations are unavoidable. Are you sure you and your wife weren't arguing?"
"No!" The man's voice suddenly rose, his voice trembling with tears. "It wasn't an argument! She hits me every few days. Whenever something displeases her, she hits me. Not just my arms, but also my legs, my waist, my back. If you don't believe me, I'll take off my clothes and show you."
As he spoke, he took off his shirt, and as he did so, Mingxi and his group saw the scars on his back, which indeed looked like they had been inflicted by a beating.
When Sister Wang saw this, her expression turned serious: "Comrade, tell me about your specific situation and that of your wife."
As she spoke, she gave Mingxi a knowing look.
Mingxi received the hint and immediately grabbed a pen and paper to prepare to take notes.
“My name is Wang Deyi. My wife and I got married three years ago. We were doing well when we got married, but six months later, my wife and I had a fight over money. We even got physical.”
Wang Deyi paused for a moment, then quickly added, "I knew it was wrong to hit her, so I quickly admitted my mistake to my wife. But from then on, she became even more aggressive and started hitting me. Now, whenever she's in a bad mood or something doesn't go her way, she raises her hand and starts hitting me. She either hits me or verbally abuses me. I really can't live like this anymore. Comrades of the Women's Federation, please help me! Help me get a divorce from my wife!"
As he spoke, he became so frustrated and aggrieved that he started crying.
Sister Wang pursed her lips and sighed at his pathetic appearance.
She's worked at the Women's Federation for so long, and she's never seen such a spineless man.
Everyone else in the office was also very disappointed in him.
If it were a woman, they could understand, but Wang Deyi is a grown man, and it's not like he can't beat his wife. What is he waiting for if he doesn't fight back when he's being abused?
Mingxi pulled out a piece of paper from the side and handed it to Wang Deyi.
"Comrade, we understand what you've said, but our Women's Federation cannot directly demand that your wife divorce you. Furthermore, we cannot simply accept your side of the story; we need to speak with your wife and family to understand the specific circumstances. If the situation is as described, we will primarily focus on mediation. Of course, if you really don't want mediation and don't want to continue living with your wife, we can help you apply for legal aid and find a lawyer to help you file for divorce."
When Wang Deyi heard Mingxi say that she would also investigate Mingxi's wife and family, his expression turned somewhat unpleasant.
He said reluctantly, "No, I'm right here. I've shown you all my injuries. What else do you want to investigate? Even if you look for my wife, she can't admit to abusing me."
Mingxi: "Don't worry, we definitely won't just listen to your wife. We'll conduct a thorough investigation."
Wang Deyi's expression was still not good. He glanced at Mingxi with droopy eyelids and said, "So, after I file for divorce, will the court grant me a divorce from my wife? I'm afraid that if I get a divorce, I can ask for compensation, right? Comrade, do you know how much compensation I can probably get in my situation?"
Mingxi gave Wang Deyi a strange look.
When a woman who has been subjected to domestic violence can no longer bear it and seeks a divorce, her biggest concern is actually how much compensation she can receive after the divorce.
It just doesn't seem right.
She looked up and exchanged a glance with Sister Wang almost imperceptibly.
Clearly, Sister Wang also sensed something was wrong, but she didn't show it on her face. She said, "The specific situation needs to be analyzed specifically. You're asking us now how much compensation your wife can receive, but we can't say for sure. It mainly depends on your wife's specific actions and your family's specific circumstances. Besides, we also need to wait and see what the judge thinks, since every judge's case is different. I can't say anything more for you now..."
Listening to Sister Wang's words was like listening to a lecture.
She rattled off a string of platitudes, but it was as if she said nothing at all.
Wang Deyi frowned, clearly displeased with Sister Wang's rambling.
However, he wasn't foolish enough to directly express his dissatisfaction.
"That's roughly the situation. Comrade Wang, please fill out this registration form first, and we'll register your personal information."
As Sister Wang spoke, she handed the registration form to Wang Deyi. Wang Deyi looked down at it for a long time before finally filling it out.
After Wang Deyi left, Mingxi felt increasingly uneasy. She said, "Sister Wang, don't you think there's something wrong with what Wang Deyi did?"
Sister Wang sighed: "You think so too?"
Mingxi nodded.
Yu Xiaomin interrupted, "What's not right? What are you talking about? I don't feel like anything's wrong."
She opened her eyes wide. Apart from thinking that Wang Deyi was too spineless, she didn't notice anything wrong with him.
Mingxi moved her lips, but didn't quite know what to say.
It's not surprising that Wang Deyi is concerned about divorce compensation. After all, if the relationship is over, the money can't go away with it. Property issues must be considered in a divorce.
However, Wang Deyi gave her the impression that he cared more about the compensation than about the humiliation of the domestic violence.
Yes, and the overall impression Wang Deyi gives off.
Normally, a man who has been a victim of domestic violence would feel humiliated and embarrassed when talking about it, but Wang Deyi did not.
He even seemed a little impatient to show it off to Mingxi and the others.
However, apart from these two points, Wang Deyi doesn't seem to have anything wrong with him.
So Mingxi couldn't quite put her finger on what was wrong with him.
Sister Wang said, "No matter what's wrong, let's do a thorough investigation first."
If all of this is just their overthinking, then Wang Deyi would be truly pitiful.
Not only was she subjected to domestic violence, but when she finally mustered the courage to seek help from the Women's Federation, she was also subjected to their veiled speculation.
Mingxi nodded; she shared the same thought as Sister Wang.
Sister Wang assigned Mingxi and Yu Xiaomin a task: to visit Wang Deyi's neighborhood and see what his neighbors were saying.
Ms. Wang then went to the neighborhood office to inquire whether Wang Deyi had sought help before due to domestic violence.
And so, the three of them set off, heading towards the home address registered by Wang Deyi.
When Mingxi and Yu Xiaomin arrived at the place, they found that Wang Deyi's house was a large courtyard with three courtyards. Before they could even step into the door, an old woman suddenly appeared from the side.
"Hey, what are you two doing?"
The woman was short, with gray hair combed behind her ears. Her bright, sharp eyes stared at Mingxi and Yu Xiaomin, scrutinizing them as if trying to figure out if they were bad people.
Mingxi quickly said, "Auntie, we're not bad people. We're staff members from the Women's Federation. This is my work ID."
As she spoke, she handed over her work ID. The woman opposite her carefully checked the information on the ID and breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that there were no problems.
She handed her work ID back to Mingxi: "Comrade, please don't blame me for being overly cautious. It's just that bad people have been rampant lately. Last month, there was a case of human trafficking in our area. A little boy was almost abducted. So I have to ask the identity of any strangers entering our compound before I dare to let them in."
"I understand."
Mingxi nodded.
She quite admired the old woman's cautiousness.
"By the way, young lady, what brings you here today...? Does the Women's Federation have any new instructions?" The older woman looked at Mingxi with a serious expression.
Mingxi quickly waved her hand: "No, no, it's like this, we came here today to investigate the domestic violence incident involving Wang Deyi."
"Who? Wang Deyi? He was a victim of domestic violence?"
The woman paused for a moment, then nodded: "Now that you mention it, I do remember something. His wife often fights with him, but... it's hard to say."
Judging from what this woman is saying, is there something else going on?
Mingxi pricked up her ears and heard the older woman say, "Young lady, you two don't know, Wang Deyi seems honest on the surface, but actually..."
She looked up and glanced around, then leaned close to Mingxi's ear and whispered, "But actually, he's a gambler!"
Mingxi's eyes widened.
The old woman said, "This happened a long time ago. About a year ago, Wang Deyi got involved with gambling, and he lost a lot of money gambling. At first, none of us in the neighborhood knew about it. It wasn't until later, when the people who had lent him money came to collect their debts, that we found out he had lost so much money and was in debt."
The woman said, "Wang Deyi's father helped him pay off his debts and gave him a good scolding, forbidding him from gambling again. Later, his father specially arranged for someone to introduce him to his current wife, Cai Xiaoli."
"This Cai Xiaoli, before she got married, was a well-known capable woman in our area. Wang Deyi's father chose her as his daughter-in-law because he heard that Cai Xiaoli was capable and wanted her to keep an eye on Wang Deyi."
Mingxi: "Then what about domestic violence?"
Auntie: "Hey, don't rush, let me explain slowly..."

Author's Note: Sorry, it's still a short chapter [laughing and crying emoji]. I've been cursed with bad luck these past two days and haven't been able to write properly. First, my computer had a problem, then bats got into my house. The property management and fire department wouldn't help, so I had to call a delivery guy to fix it. I thought I could finally write normally after that, but a friend reminded me that the bats might be coming from a leaky air conditioner drain pipe. I went to check, and sure enough, the pipe wasn't sealed properly, and there was a nest of giant, dried-out bugs at the pipe opening. So I went to argue with the real estate agent, and that's why I haven't been able to write properly. (Although it sounds like an excuse, I really didn't expect to encounter so many bizarre situations. But I should be able to resume normal updates tomorrow! *continuing to kneel like a little man*)
