Chapter 62
Xu Xiao stood in front of them, panting heavily: "Damn, I just got back from the disciplinary office."
"The transfer students are picking up their school uniforms."
"I heard she's an art student! Her aura is absolutely amazing!"
"So excited?" Chen Zhou punched his shoulder in surprise.
"Damn, you didn't see that! She's so beautiful!" Xu Xiao patted his chest. "Her hair is long, straight, and black, down to her waist."
"Holy crap... the most important thing is the scent..."
"I could smell her fragrance before I even saw her!" Xu Xiao said excitedly. "I could smell her fragrance in the hallway before I even entered the room."
"I don't know which class they're in, but they're definitely not on our floor." After saying that, she became dejected again.
"If it's our class, what can you do about it?" He Shang slowly came out of the back door, put his hands in his pockets, and stood next to Xu Xiao.
"She's in our class, so isn't that getting one step closer to the goddess?"
"No matter how close he is, he's not yours..." He Shang shook his head and looked at Chen Zhoujing, "Oh, out getting water again?"
He glanced at the cup in Chen Zhoujing's hand, squinted, and looked at the corners of his mouth that were curving upwards: "You won't be laughing in a moment."
Chen Zhoujing suppressed a smile and said, "Oh?"
"What riddle are you talking about?" Xu Xiao scratched his head.
"It's nothing..." He Shang was about to say something when two people came from the right corridor.
"I wonder which group I'll be in this time..."
"It's okay. If it really doesn't work, I'll talk to the teacher about it."
Gu Zhenyi and Xu Xiu walked over from the opposite side, both looking worried.
Gu Zhenyi was the first to look up: "What are you doing?"
“A transfer student has arrived,” He Shang said.
"Another transfer student?" Xu Xiu asked.
"Yeah, and I'm an art student." Xu Xiao scratched his head sheepishly.
"An art student?" Gu Zhenyi murmured, glancing around before finally stopping on Chen Zhoujing.
Feeling her gaze, Chen Zhoujing suppressed a smile: "Why are you looking at me?"
"What does this have to do with me?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Jian Sheng looked up and gazed at Gu Zhenyi.
Gu Zhenyi shook her head noncommittally and clicked her tongue: "It's related to you, but it also seems like it's not."
"Why are you all being so mysterious? What are you talking about? What's wrong with the transfer student?" Xu Xiao asked anxiously.
"You'll have to discuss this with your brother Chen." He Shang shook his head, feigning regret, "Back in the day... sigh."
The hint was clear, and Xu Xiao understood it. He looked at Chen Zhoujing and asked, "Your rumored white moonlight?"
After he finished speaking, everyone's gaze fell on Chen Zhoujing.
Chen Zhou gasped in surprise. The probing and teasing gaze made his scalp tingle. He frowned and subconsciously looked to the side.
When she met Jian Sheng's questioning eyes, she opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, she turned her head away.
His heart skipped a beat: "No, it has nothing to do with me!"
"What white moonlight? I don't have a white moonlight..."
Chen Zhou moved closer to her, startled: "You don't believe me?"
Jian Sheng's expression remained unchanged, revealing no emotion, but it was precisely this appearance that stirred a sense of unease within him.
A sense of panic ensued.
She lowered her head, moved to the side, and slowly said, "I understand."
"What do you know? No, it's really not." Chen Zhou's tone quickened as he bent down to look at her face.
No one spoke, and everyone's gazes were fixed on the two of them, making Jian Sheng feel somewhat awkward.
She raised her hand and pushed Chen Zhoujing's arm: "I know it's not true, don't say anything."
"Tsk tsk tsk. Chen Gou, how can you be so shameless?" Gu Zhenyi stepped forward, pulled Chen Zhoujing aside, and shielded Jian Sheng behind her. "What's your hurry?"
Chen Zhou stood up straight in surprise, and a chorus of jeers rose around him. He pinched the back of his neck and said, "Get out, get out, get out."
Seeing his discomfiture, He Shang curled his lip and said, "It seems... this white moonlight is someone else."
He sighed and added, "The one that comes might be Black Moonlight."
After saying that, he patted Chen Zhoujing on the shoulder and nudged Xu Xiao: "You should think about your study group. If you're assigned to Zhao Chengyang again, you'll be unhappy."
A casual remark drew everyone's attention back to the study group.
The study groups were rearranged in the second semester of the second year of high school, and the familiar study patterns allowed the members to get to know each other better.
Disruption and reorganization are things that bring both sorrow and joy.
Jian Sheng's grades have improved significantly, and her ranking has stabilized at around fourteenth in the class. She wondered which group she would be in this time. She lowered her head, her thoughts wandering.
Xu Xiao seemed to be ignited, suddenly becoming excited and speaking in a high-pitched tone.
"Damn it, this is so annoying! I don't want to be in his group. He's going to kill me. He's acting like a madman. Last time he called me in the middle of the night to talk about a question on that exam..."
"You've made me wide awake. Isn't that crazy?"
"You were a victim too?" Gu Zhenyi's lips twitched. "Last semester, near the end of the semester, there was a monthly exam, late at night, and I suspected he was venting his anger."
"Holy crap, it was that monthly exam!" Xu Xiao clapped his hands, getting excited. He was about to continue when he remembered something and glanced towards the back door.
The person was not in their seat, but continued, "His parents seem to be sick too. They dote on his younger brother and take out all their anger on him. That night, I said if it really didn't work out, I would go out with him to play some games. Then I heard a loud knocking on his bedroom door."
"I was so scared I didn't dare to say anything." He rubbed his arms, his voice automatically becoming softer.
"Why would he call you in the middle of the night? Isn't that disturbing other people's rest?" Xu Xiu said to Gu Zhenyi with a stern face.
“Around nine o’clock, thankfully, I was having dinner with him at the time, and he answered the phone,” Gu Zhenyi said slowly.
He didn't need to guess; Xu Xiu's dissatisfaction subsided along with the sound of his voice.
"Why isn't Chen Zhoujing watering the pothos in the office?" Gu Zhenyi asked.
Chen Zhoujing withdrew his gaze from Jian Sheng and said expressionlessly, "Dead."
Gu Zhenyi sneered, "That's it, now that you're dead, you won't have a chance to find an excuse to switch study groups!"
She winked at him and shrugged, saying, "Let's see what happens. It doesn't matter which group we're in, right, Xu Xiu?"
Xu Xiu, who was lost in thought, froze: "Well, you can ask me anything you don't know."
"You two have finally calmed down a bit. Before, you two were always fighting and killing each other; you could practically tear the classroom apart." He Shang raised an eyebrow. "Did you change your ways after you started dating?"
Gu Zhenyi pulled her hand away from Jian Sheng's arm, stepped towards He Shang, and punched him: "Are you crazy?"
"Hey, what are you doing!" He Shang touched his arm and hid behind Xu Xiao.
A light drizzle was falling outside the window, and students chatted idly in the corridor.
A considerable number of people gradually joined the group outside the classroom of Class 13.
Taking advantage of a lull in the two's playful banter, Chen Zhoujing quietly moved closer to Jian Sheng, who seemed lost in thought.
He coughed, stood ramrod straight, and waited a while. When no one spoke, he lowered his eyes.
Jian Sheng turned her face to the side; her hair seemed to have just been cut, it was shorter, revealing her fair face and chin.
When she wasn't speaking, she would quietly stay to the side, watching others talk, occasionally a smile playing on her lips.
He was used to her quietness and her little gestures, and was often delighted by the unexpected side of her that she showed.
Fortunately, fortunately, he was the only one who saw these faces.
Chen Zhou turned his head away in surprise and coughed again.
The touch was just right, pulling Jian Sheng out of her thoughts.
She looked at him, and he was smiling at Gu Zhenyi and the others.
Jian Sheng pursed her lips, her chest still feeling a little tightness from the study group and her "white moonlight" (ideal love interest).
I don't know how Teacher Zhong arranged it this time. She turned her head away and unconsciously frowned.
Chen Zhoujing waited for a while. She looked at him from the corner of his eye, then looked back, but still didn't say anything. He hissed and went to look at her.
She hadn't looked for more than a few seconds before she started walking towards the back door.
"Hey." Chen Zhoujing followed, walking to her side. "What's wrong?"
Jian Sheng walked to his seat without saying a word.
"What's wrong with you? Why aren't you saying anything?" He frowned and followed her to her seat. As they passed, he casually placed the white thermos on his desk.
Jian Sheng had already pulled out a chair and sat down, silently flipping through the papers on the table.
Chen Zhou was startled and quickly pulled the paper away.
"Give it back to me." Her voice turned cold as she looked at him.
As the temperature dropped to zero, Chen Zhou's hand, which was gripping the test paper, unconsciously loosened and almost fell to the ground.
He nudged it until the test paper was firmly on her desk. Seeing that she didn't speak, he turned the test paper around so that it faced her.
"Are you angry?" Chen Zhou asked in surprise.
The sounds of conversation in the classroom mingled with the increasingly heavy rain outside the window, and he felt frustrated and anxious amidst this noisy patter.
Jian Sheng remained silent, head down, pen in hand, scribbling on the draft paper, seemingly writing something at a rapid pace that indicated his busyness.
Chen Zhou coughed a few times: "Don't speak!"
"You're ignoring me!"
As he was muttering to himself, he felt something poke his arm. He looked down and saw a pen touching him.
The owner of the pen put it away when Chen Zhou looked over in surprise.
She grimaced, glanced at Jian Sheng with his stern face, and then at him.
Finally, he stood up and gestured for her to sit down: "Please sit down."
Chen Zhou was startled, but she had already happily walked towards the front door with her water glass in hand.
His ears turned slightly red. He glanced at the stool and sat down.
Jian Sheng heard the noise and felt a sudden throbbing in her ear when he placed his hands on her table.
She held the test paper, waiting for him to speak.
Chen Zhoujing stopped talking, crossed her arms on the table, and pressed down on the draft paper and the test paper.
Jian Sheng gritted his teeth: "What?"
When I looked up, I met his dark eyes, which were like a spring, filled with a faint worry.
Her eyes darted around, and her voice softened: "What are you doing?"
Chen Zhou raised his hand and scratched his forehead: "You scared me to death."
"What?" Jian asked in a low voice.
“I thought you were angry because you ignored me just now,” he said truthfully.
Jian Sheng simply replied with an "Oh," and said, "No, that won't happen."
At most, I was thinking about whether we could be assigned to the same study group, the matter of the "white moonlight" (idealized romantic partner), and what the "black moonlight" (idealized romantic partner) was.
Everyone seemed to know about him, except for her.
Even his family background was told to her by Jian Qingyao, a person who had absolutely no connection to him.
However, Chen Zhoujing had no idea that she had so many things about him on her mind. But perhaps because he cared, he explained to her again, "There is no such thing as a white moonlight."
“The new transfer student has nothing to do with me, I’m serious, I swear.” He then held up three fingers.
Jian Sheng looked away and said, "I know, don't say anything more."
"I...I'm not angry, what are you doing?"
She explained quickly, and after a long while, Chen Zhoujing finally believed her that she wasn't angry.
He leaned closer and asked thoughtfully, "Then why were you ignoring me just now?"
Half-jokingly, she revealed her true feelings: "Are you unhappy because people are saying that the transfer student issue is related to me?"
"Does that mean you care about me?" He carefully looked at her drooping eyelashes.
My heart is pounding, longing to hear a hopeful answer.
But Jian Sheng changed the subject: "I was thinking about the study group."
She raised her hand and pushed his arm to the top of the table, where it met the chair opposite her. Then she picked up a pen but didn't write anything.
Chen Zhou exclaimed in surprise, narrowing his eyes: "What's wrong with the study group?"
"It's okay, we'll be in the same group anyway..."
"Why are you worried about the study group?" he suddenly realized. "Are you worried that we won't be in the same group?"
Jian Sheng straightened up and slammed his pen on the table: "No! Get out of here."
"No." Chen Zhou's tone calmed down. "Let's not talk about this, okay?"
Jian Sheng didn't respond and leaned back in her chair.
