Chapter 24: Heartbroken

Chapter 24: Heartbroken

Jian Tang’s birthday party was grand, and Jian Tang sent the invitation to her early on.

In the villa halfway up the mountain, Jiang Rao walked in and saw the lively conversation in the hall.

Jiang Rao saw Jian's father and Jian Tang, who was attending a social event, in the crowd. They looked like they were being forced into a life worse than death.

Jiang Rao smiled. Jian Tang was busy now, so she tactfully found a corner to sit down.

While drinking a glass of red wine, I saw Qi Ze.

He brought a female companion.

Jian Tang talked to her on the phone last night. She was thinking of finding a male companion for Jiang Rao because she was worried that she would be too busy with the birthday party and would not be able to take care of Jiang Rao, and she was also worried that Jiang Rao would be alone. In the end, she was rejected by Jiang Rao. She wanted to hook up with someone else, but the most taboo thing was unclear. Jian Tang wanted to persuade her, but Jiang Rao decisively hung up the phone. But now... Jiang Rao looked at Qi Ze who was at ease in the crowd, and suddenly felt an itch in the back of her teeth. Why did she not agree to her yesterday?

Otherwise, they would just act according to the situation at the party. Qi Ze had a female companion and she had a male companion. When they were clinking glasses, they would look at each other with their eyes behind their respective companions' backs, which was very touching.

Otherwise, she would just bump into Qi Ze alone and it would seem like she was just being too much of a pushover.

Jiang Rao looked at the female companion next to Qi Ze and had already regarded her as a competitor. The woman was tall, with neat short hair and a beautiful face, but she looked very cold.

Jiang Rao took a sip of wine and thought to herself that Qi Ze's taste had changed.

She observed carefully. The short-haired woman's gesture of clinking glasses was meticulous, and her hand holding Qi Ze's arm was very loose. Occasionally, when the two of them collided with each other, the woman would become excited.

Jiang Rao understood that Qi Ze was just doing his job and probably didn't bring the woman with him to the bed for socializing.

Her heart was at ease. Although Jiang Rao had prepared herself mentally, she was too impatient to deal with the constant stream of beautiful women around Qi Ze.

Just as she was thinking, Jian Tang arrived. She wiped the sweat off her face and took the wine next to Jiang Rao and drank it in one gulp. "My old man is too difficult to deal with. He takes me to social events everywhere and introduces me to young men, for fear that his daughter won't be able to get married."

Jian Tang complained in a low voice. Although she was the protagonist of this birthday party, she hated being treated like a monkey. Jiang Rao disagreed with Jian's father's behavior, but there was nothing she could do. She could only whisper to comfort her, "Your father... is doing this for your own good."

Jian Tang obviously knew about Jiang Rao's family affairs, and hesitated, "Where's Qi Ze? Why can't I see him?"

"Over there." Jiang Rao pointed, and Jian Tang followed her gaze and saw Qi Ze and the woman beside Qi Ze.

Jian Tang's expression changed, "That woman..."

"It's okay." Jiang Rao said firmly, standing up and adjusting the hem of her skirt, "I'll be right back."

Jiang Rao had a beautiful idea. She would first take a glass of wine to Qi Ze, then pretend to sprain her ankle and spill the wine on the short-haired woman. Then... everything would go smoothly.

Although the method is crude, it is useful.

She walked towards Qi Ze, but unexpectedly Cheng Yaojin appeared halfway.

Jiang Rao looked at Qi Chen who was blocking her way in astonishment. Her face was still furious, and she suppressed her smile and stared at the newcomer with a bad face.

"Miss Jiang."

"Hmm?" Jiang Rao made a sound through her nose. People who knew her would know that this was a sign that her patience was running out.

"Can I ask you to dance?"

Qi Chen was talking and laughing, and it seemed that the confrontation between the two opera houses yesterday was just Jiang Rao's illusion.

Was it her unintentional provocation yesterday that had the effect?

Not like that.

Jiang Rao quickly denied it.

She looked behind her and saw Qi Ze looking at her with squinted eyes.

Oh, Jiang Rao figured it out. It turned out to be a contest between two brothers.

"Okay." Jiang Rao's refusal turned into a response. She smiled and stretched out her hand.

The party dance music started, standard ballroom dance music.

The tango was melodious and passionate. Jiang Rao tapped her high heels, swung her skirt, and slid into the dance floor at Qi Chen's invitation.

Before turning her head, she glanced at Qi Ze behind Qi Chen, her lips slightly curved in a meaningful smile.

This provocative smile made Qi Ze look sideways frequently.

Sure enough, Qi Ze was upset.
