Chapter 5: Trying to frame the baby's mother backfired, ending up with the baby's food bowl.
"Sihe, what are you doing here!"
Madam Su glanced at Si He, but her gaze drifted toward the approaching torch procession.
Si He is right in front of them, so who are they bringing down the mountain?
Sihe stood before everyone, holding the hand of the well-behaved Qingbao.
Aunt Ba, who was about to get the pig cage, was completely dumbfounded.
Didn't her son successfully kidnap Si He to the back mountain? How come Si He is here?
"Yes, they said they saw you and a man go up the back mountain, so I... but I didn't say it."
Aunt Ba quickly waved her hand, and the pig cage in her hand fell to the ground.
"Aunt Ba, I know you didn't say it, but your pig cage drowned your own daughter-in-law, and all the litters of piglets you raised died. You should keep it for yourself and not take it out."
Qingbao raised her round little face and kindly reminded Aunt Ba.
Aunt Ba was dumbfounded; her family had indeed lost two litters of piglets this year.
That Qingbao is truly a dog's mouth, she can't say anything nice, her mouth is full of curses, she's really ugly.
Aunt Ba looked at Su Xiao with resentment and anger, "Look at your good daughter, all she does is curse. She's not even as good as Mengmeng's hair."
Su Xiao's face darkened. "Si He, is this how you raised my daughter? I heard from my mother that you went back to the clan to pray for my safety for two years, which touched me. But I never expected what you taught her!"
"They spread rumors that I went to the back mountain to have an affair, and you believed them too, General."
Recalling the terrifying scene in the cave just now, and how it was the first time in her life she had ever attacked someone, Si He trembled with fear.
And the actions of her childhood sweetheart husband were even more disheartening.
"I didn't say anything!" Su Xiao said solemnly, disdainful of explaining to Si He.
Si He's heart sank. "You didn't stop them from ruining my reputation, so what difference does it make whether you say it or not?"
"Don't be unreasonable. Once the clan leader and the others come down, the truth will be revealed," Su Xiao said coldly.
"The truth is out? I'm standing here, isn't that the truth?" Si He sneered.
Su Xiao was speechless.
He had believed his mother's words for a moment.
The clan chief came down with his men, first respectfully greeting Su Xiao, and then ordering them to throw the dead man on the ground.
Upon seeing this, Aunt Ba collapsed to the ground, kneeling and crying out, "My son, my son!"
How could her only son die like this?
"Auntie Ba, please accept my condolences," the clan chief said, offering words of comfort.
When they saw Si He standing in front of them, their eyes widened in disbelief.
How did you get down the mountain?
They had already descended the mountain at top speed, so how come Sihe was even faster than them?
Si He laughed, "What are you saying, clan leader? I've been in my room the whole time and have never gone out. If you don't believe me, ask the old lady." The old lady said with a grim face, "I don't know."
"I know." At this moment, Su Mengmeng, who was hiding in Su Xiao's arms, raised her little hand.
She said fearfully, "Qingbao and I were playing in the house just now, and we didn't see Auntie."
Because her mother and Sihe were sisters, she still addressed her as "Auntie".
Si He immediately realized that these people were determined to plunge him into utter ruin.
"Just now, Qingbao was slamming Mengmeng's head to the ground, trying to kill her. If Sihe were here, how could she not stop her daughter from doing evil? She must have killed Aunt Ba's son on the back mountain!"
An old woman told Su Xiao what had happened in a vicious tone.
Another old woman added, "That's right. This afternoon, I clearly saw Sihe and Aunt Ba's son go up the back mountain. Who knows what shortcut Sihe took back? Maybe she killed him."
"You have no evidence, so you shouldn't make any more assumptions!" Old Madam Su said, stopping them.
Turning to Si He, he asked, "Si He, did you kill him? If you tell the truth, I can ask Xiao'er to save your life..."
In an instant, all the charges against Si He pointed to the murderer.
Si He sneered, "You have no evidence, so what makes you say I killed him? Are you just making assumptions?"
"You killed my son! You murderer, give me back my son's life!"
Aunt Ba cried her heart out, picked up a stone from the ground, and rushed towards Si He.
A beam of red light appeared out of nowhere and sent her flying.
Little Qingbao showed no remorse on her chubby face. Instead, she blew on the nib of her pen, making it wobble, and then she got angry and bristled.
“Your son wasn’t killed by my mother. You should think about what sins you’ve committed.”
Aunt Ba was thrown to the ground. Suddenly, she remembered what happened a year ago and was terrified.
“What a sin! What sin have I ever committed? It was you who killed my son!” Aunt Ba’s eyes were red.
Her son once accepted money from her lover to help her deceive her daughter-in-law and take the blame.
Similarly, now that her son has also taken money from Madam Su, but her son is dead, she wants Si He to pay with his life.
"I've heard that after a person dies, their soul still remembers things from their previous life. Why don't we ask the blind fortune teller at the village entrance to come and ask the soul about it?"
Villagers immediately made a suggestion.
Human life is at stake, but today is the day of General Su's triumphant return, and it concerns the honor of the clan. If it can be resolved privately, let's not disturb the government.
"Go quickly and fetch the blind man!" the clan chief ordered.
Qingbao glanced at Aunt Ba, a flash of red light passing through her eyes.
As a judge, she can sometimes see the cause and effect at a glance.
Asking the soul?
Perfect timing, she's stumbled upon her very job!
She hid the pen behind her back and waited silently, holding her mother's hand.
The blind man arrived without anyone leading him, carrying a bright yellow banner in his hand.
His original intention was to perform a ritual within the clan to pray for the general's return.
"Blind man, quickly look at Aunt Ba's son, can you still sense his soul?" Old Madam Su asked anxiously.
The blind man is a man who prays for blessings for the surrounding villages; his spiritual attainments are sufficient.
Her anxiety stemmed from her desire to substantiate Si He's guilt in committing murder.
There were only two people on the back mountain. If it wasn't Si He who killed them, then who else could it be?
"Madam, please don't worry. I will immediately raise the banner to summon his soul and reveal his spirit to the world so that we can find out the truth."
After saying that, the blind man began to fiddle with the yellow banner in his hand.
It kept circling the corpse, muttering incomprehensible gibberish.
Qingbao was speechless.
It seems this blind man's skills are rather ordinary. If he were a more skilled master, he could summon the soul with a mere wave of his hand.
The blind man chanted for about half an incense stick's time, then suddenly opened his empty, gray eyes and cried out:
"Oh no, there's another evil spirit!"
The words were spoken.
The man's soul slowly appeared before everyone, and a pale, slender ghost hand lay across his neck.
A female ghost followed behind him.
Everyone was startled by this scene, and Su Mengmeng burst into tears.
Only Aunt Ba was shocked and almost fainted.
"That female ghost's clothes look so familiar, isn't it... isn't it the same clothes your daughter-in-law wore when she drowned last year, Aunt Ba?" The villagers were horrified.
They all hid behind the blind man.
The blind man's hands trembled slightly as he asked.
"Su Dazhuang, don't be afraid. Tell me the truth, who killed you!"
