Chapter 11: The Gift is Very Bad News
Darion held the chubby little hen in his arms and gazed at the jeweled crown atop King Soren's head.
So shiny, so bright, so desirable.
Sewell thought the same thing.
There was no fear of power in the eyes of Mr. Mage and Mr. Crow, only a desire for money.
But King Sauron didn't think so.
The stormy nightmare from many years ago once again swept through his memory. He was of royal blood but was exiled. Then he pushed open a door, and everything was different.
Darion gave him armies, prestige, and everything he needed to take the throne... and he ascended the throne and was crowned king.
He didn't see Darien again for many years.
Until this moment.
A strange fear immediately gripped his heart.
Why was the shopkeeper's gaze fixed on his crown? Could a wish given be taken back? Integrity was of no use to him...
But suddenly, a crazy joy replaced the fear.
Does meeting again mean that he can make another wish? He is no longer the exiled prince with nothing. Now he has a lot of chips in his hands.
King Soren couldn't help but smirk.
"Let's go, I want to go over there and take a look." Darien said to Sevier.
The golden light was too dazzling to his eyes. When he thought about having no money in his pocket, not only his eyes hurt, but his heart also hurt.
Darien left in pain and had an ice cream at a roadside cafe to soothe his pain.
They returned to the tower before evening, bringing with them a large collection of miscellaneous items.
Besides the two pullets, they also bought a pair of wild rabbits, hoping that they would not get out and make a mess of the whole heath.
"A gift for you." Seville took out a small oil bottle with exquisite carvings and placed it on the cabinet next to Leon.
"Thank you very much. It was Darien who chose it, right?" Leon was very happy, and the parts in his body made a creaking sound.
Darien hummed twice and floated over.
It’s a rare opportunity to go out, and everyone in the tower has gifts.
Sewell got a new pair of cufflinks, Pluto received a bottle of green ink with silver shimmering in it, Fitch received a delicate tea set fit for a mouse, and Mrs. Fitch received a large roll of rags and some small accessories...
There's nothing we can do about it, because the small clothes sold outside are only for dolls and not for mice.
The two long stuffed potatoes would not fit into the tight clothes, so Mrs. Fitch had to make them herself.
"Oh dear Darien, you always know what I need... Look at this pretty little lace hat, and this soft tweed. And this! My favorite red polka dot pattern!" Mrs. Fitch screamed every time she opened something, almost fainting with happiness.
Darien was a little smug. Choosing the right gift for each person was a science, and judging by everyone's reactions, he was definitely an expert at it.
"As long as you like it. I also bought two hens and a pair of rabbits, which will save us a lot of money." He said casually.
After Mrs. Fitch finished looking at the fabrics, she went over to look at the hens and rabbits she had bought.
After taking a few more glances, I realized something was wrong.
She screamed, "Oh my God! Who sold you chickens like this? This one is a pullet, and the other one is a castrated rooster! The price of a castrated rooster is much lower than that of a pullet!"
Shocking! Top profiteers were scammed by profiteers!
Darien was furious. "Ahhhhhhhh! Next time I see that chicken seller I'm going to beat him up!"
That night, Mr. Master had a meal of crispy roast chicken. The roast chicken was delicious, but he was in a bad mood.
After setting the table, Sewell quietly left for a while, grabbed a handful of nuts, opened the gorse door, and a large group of crows were at his command.
"You do this first... then this... then that..."
After a while, a new wonder appeared in the royal city. Lucas, who was selling chickens at a stall, attracted a group of crows. Whenever he appeared, a large group of crows would fly to his head and shit. The scene was very spectacular.
This shit-soaked spectacle only disappeared when Mr. Mage completely forgot about it.
Lucas lost his name in this whole thing. Not everyone may know Lucas, but as long as the guy who was chased and shitted by crows was mentioned, everyone in the royal city would know who that was.
Back to the tower, the day after they went out, Darien and Sewell were studying how to build a chicken coop.
"I think we're going to have a good handful of hay," Darien said seriously.
"And lots of boards and nails," said Sewell, equally seriously.
A book was spread out in front of the two of them, containing instructions for building a chicken coop.
However, it is worth mentioning that this book was written by a witch, and she also wrote in the book that the hen's feeding trough should be given a constant supply of clean water spell and a drying spell to keep it warm and dry.
The witch's chicken-raising technique was very meticulous, and Mr. Wizard and Mr. Crow studied it carefully.
Then they built a chicken coop together that was leaky on all sides.
"Is there something wrong?" Darien looked at the tilted chicken coop and the finger-wide gap in confusion.
"The planks weren't very consistent in size, and I think we overlooked that," Sewell concluded.
So they found a saw, and Darien watched as Sewell took apart the wooden boards that made up the chicken coop, then re-marked them with an extra-long ruler and ink, and finally used the saw.
Mr. Wizard watched the chicken coop assembly and finally engraved the spell.
And he was a little disgusted by Mr. Crow's rough handicraft.
But the little hen was very satisfied. She walked around the chicken coop with a clucking sound, and then nestled comfortably into the straw-padded nest.
"You have to lay me an egg tomorrow, two if possible," Darien said, looking at the hen.
"Cluck?" The young hen tilted her head.
The pair of gray rabbits were penned in a wooden fence, chewing fresh lettuce leaves in their three-lobed mouths. They had obviously adapted well to the new environment.
The new seeds planted a few days ago have sprouted, and dots of green are scattered in the bare brown soil. They have only cultivated this small piece of land, and after a while there will be new vegetables to enrich the diet.
The vegetable garden and the medicinal garden were mixed together. Darien inspected the vegetable garden and then harvested a wave of ripe herbs.
Two large clusters of purple mushrooms grew at the foot of the tree. They had opened their caps, a sign that the vertigo mushrooms were mature and ready to be picked.
Darian used a small shovel to dig out the mycelium growing in the soil, then shook the cap vigorously to shake the spores into the soil. After a while, new mushrooms would grow again.
There are also large and plump gem berries and red thorns, which are left to Seville to deal with. The gem berries are delicious and the red thorns are prickly, so neither is suitable for Mr. Mage to handle personally.
"Give me a bite." Darien licked his lips at the small basket of jewelberries that were as plump as beautiful rubies.
As a good assistant to the alchemist, Sewell should have sternly rejected the behavior of consuming herbs simply for the sake of appetite, but unfortunately he was the wizard's number one lackey.
"How about this one? It's the biggest and smells the sweetest." Sewell picked out the most perfect one from the basket.
Darien took a bite of the sweet-smelling jewelberry.
The thin, translucent peel was bitten open, and the sweet juice flowed out from the gap. The flesh was crispy, with a hint of berry fragrance, but also mixed with a little vanilla ice cream flavor. Darian enjoyed eating it very much.
I want to eat another one.
Mr. Mage's eyes drifted into the basket vaguely.
Sewell couldn't pretend not to see it, so he took out the second one.
After spending half the morning building a chicken coop and a shed and fence for the rabbits, Darien felt that he had done a great job, so he ate another gemberry without any psychological burden.
The number of gem berries in the basket decreased one by one, and Sewell finally had to protect the last few gem berries: "I will try to plant a few more gem berries this afternoon, so that there will be enough of them to serve as after-dinner fruit."
Darien ate with such delight that he no longer cared about the few less plump gemberries in the basket. "From now on, I want to eat gemberry-filled pies and gemberry cakes."
Sewell sighed, "Okay, Master."
Gemberry itself has no medicinal effect when eaten alone. It is generally used as a catalyst to assist in the fusion of various materials, so Darian just needs to enjoy eating it.
The last few gemberries in the basket were not saved in the end. Darien thought it was bad behavior to eat them alone, so the taste of gemberries was tasted by everyone in the tower.
"He must have been unable to resist again," Mrs. Fitch said with a smile. "This has happened more than once. Gemberries are so delicious that few people can resist their temptation."
"Is that so? It seems the decision to grow more was the right one." Sewell said, looking at the gemberries in his hand.
"It's not that simple." Mrs. Fitch shook her head.
"Gemberry is difficult to grow, and it's a struggle to grow from a seedling to a mature plant that can bear fruit," Fitch said.
"We have to give it a try." Sewell sighed for the second time today.
It took quite a while to cultivate the gem berries. When the first tender leaves finally grew from the grafted branches, Darien finally put King Sauron into the magic shop.
It was an early morning, and King Soran simply opened the door of his bedroom and returned to the familiar shop.
The furnishings here have not changed at all. The counter and the place where the clock is hung are exactly the same as before, except that there is an assistant behind the owner who has never been seen before.
"Long time no see." Darien said with a smile.
