Chapter 18 Gold Coins Are Heartbroken Kittens Tonight
The banquet to entertain the guests was very grand. The beautiful and soft embroidered tablecloth was without a wrinkle. The silver cutlery and glassware were polished to a shine. Many candles were lit on the crystal chandeliers, making the whole restaurant sparkle.
The servant pulled out a chair and Darien sat down in it, finally breathing a sigh of relief.
It's a bit strange that Seville is not here.
Without the crow's face to look at while eating, it seems like my appetite is not as good anymore.
Darien thought as he waited for his food to be served.
At this moment, Mr. Crow, whom the wizard missed, was having dinner in the servants' dining room.
Because he was the butler brought by Sir Ferrers, he was arranged to sit below Mr. Water. He could start eating after Mr. Water picked up his knife and fork first.
Sewell poked the mashed potatoes on his plate with his fork, missing the dining table in the tower.
Of course I miss Mr. Master too.
The first dish served on the banquet table was a small bite of foie gras sandwiched with bread. It was salty, with the aroma of lemon peel and a hint of pepper.
Lord Hayden distracted his attention and finally had more than just Darien to care about, so Darien could have a good meal.
The dishes served on the table were very delicious. The wild boar meat was able to remove the fishy smell that had seeped into the bones. Although the spices were a bit strong, the meat was delicate and tender. The charred fat was oily when you bit it, and the honey was just the right sweetness.
Sweet and delicious.
Darien used his knife and fork to elegantly separate the tendons and bones, then cut the meat into small pieces and put them into his mouth... Actually, he would rather grab the ribs and put them next to his mouth to chew on.
Elvira ate the dishes on the plate very casually. The taste of these dishes was very familiar to her. She had eaten them many times since she was a child. After her mother got married, she took away half of the cooks in the castle.
She was eavesdropping on Anna talking to others, interrupting at the right time, and then making some witty remarks to make Anna laugh.
Anna thought Elvira was cute, but Claude, who was frequently interrupted, didn't think so.
He began to compete with Elvira for Anna, while maintaining his gentlemanly demeanor.
Darien was eating seriously; the conversation had nothing to do with him.
The chicken salad was also delicious. The clear soup made from cabbage and pork cartilage was surprisingly light without being rich. The wine tasted a bit astringent but still sweet. There were also steaks and salty pies... A certain crow was forgotten, and Mr. Wizard had a big appetite.
The dessert served at the end was also delicious. It was a delicate and small pastry. When you tapped it gently with a spoon, you could hear a clear snapping sound. The layers of pastry were filled with lemon custard, which was sour and sweet and delicious.
Although the food outside was delicious, Darien missed the dining table in the tower even more, and he didn't know what the Fitch couple had cooked for dinner tonight.
Across the river, in the manor kitchen, a rat party is underway that will last until midnight.
Bread, cheese, sweet milk, all the foods that mice like to eat are available. A big pot of salty and fragrant cream soup is enough for a group of mice to jump in and swim. They don't use plates, but eat big chunks of bread and scoop up the cream soup, eating until their cheeks are bulging.
"Little Jenny, don't just eat the apple, have some hot donuts!" Mrs. Fitch raised a large plate of donuts sprinkled with thick icing sugar.
"Okay!" Jenny Pig swallowed the apple core and grabbed four donuts with both hands. She wanted to eat more food tonight.
Seville and Kenneth were not so happy. Although there was soup and snacks in the servants' dining room, the order was more distinct and it was difficult for them to fit in.
Kenneth poked at a piece of carrot dejectedly. He wanted to leave.
After dinner, Darien was invited by Lord Hayden to play cards with them. He couldn't refuse the invitation, and they even wanted to use gold coins as stakes.
Mr. Wizard was very upset after playing cards. He lost all the gold coins he had in his pocket. He was at the point where he couldn't leave the table without cheating.
The agonizing card game ended very late. Darien lost miserably and had to pay a small debt. He would send someone here to deliver a sum of gold coins early tomorrow morning.
There was a rustle, the sound of gold coins flowing out of the pocket.
Crack, that was the sound of Master's heart breaking.
Darien, very unhappy, rolled himself up in the quilt, like a crepe with fresh cream and strawberries, but when he took a bite he found that it tasted bitter.
With a creak, the window was pushed open.
A black figure flipped in from the window and landed steadily on the thick carpet.
A small corner of the crepe was pulled open, revealing the depressed face of the wizard in the darkness.
"Sevier, I lost money." said the muffled voice.
"They're all bad guys, how much you lost," said Sewell.
The quilt rustled softly, and Mr. Mage covered his face with it again.
Mr. Crow waited patiently for a while, and then he heard long breathing sounds from under the quilt, as if he had fallen asleep.
"How much money did you lose?" The quilt was lifted, and a steady voice was heard close at hand.
Darien held his breath and pretended to sleep, a warm breath coming closer and closer, close enough to hit his face.
Damn it! He can't hold it anymore!
Mr. Master threw off the quilt and stood up!
Boom!
"It hurts!" Darien covered his forehead, and the skin he covered soon became red and swollen.
Seville was not in a much better situation. Mr. Mage's headbutt hit his lips directly, and his teeth hit his lips, leaving a big wound, and he was bleeding.
The master and servant covered their heads and mouths respectively. The originally quiet bedroom was now eerily silent.
Feeling guilty, Darien rarely refrained from scolding Sewell immediately. After his headache subsided, he took the initiative and asked, "Did you dig all the herbs I asked you to dig during the day?"
Sewell licked his lips and said, "I've dug them up and planted them in the new herb garden."
So efficient, there's no excuse to lose your temper anymore.
Darien frowned and sat on his bed, trying to think of another excuse to give Sevier a good scolding.
With a sound of friction, a cluster of fire lit up in the dark room. Seville struck a match and lit the candlestick on the bedside.
The light from the candlesticks illuminated the small bump on Darien's forehead and also showed him the cut on Sewell's lip.
Feeling guilty, he averted his gaze.
"Excuse me, but please allow me to help you without your permission," said Sewell.
The face was gently turned back, and the fresh warmth of the herbal ointment drifted to the tip of the nose, and a cool feeling was felt on the forehead.
Aconite, Duchesnea sinensis, and Myrrh... Darien subconsciously used his nose to identify the ingredients of the ointment... No, is this the time to think about this?
"Is dinner delicious tonight? Mr. Murphy is a good cook. I saw how he processed wild boar meat and the process of making snacks in the kitchen..." Sewell chatted while applying ointment to him.
"It's delicious. I like the ribs and dim sum. The soup is good too." Darien was diverted.
After Sewell applied the ointment, he did some massage, accompanied by insignificant chat. Darien soon became like a melted cake, lazy and powerless.
While enjoying the full massage from Mr. Crow, a feeling of guilt rushed out from the corner.
"I lost 93 gold coins today..."
"Dear master, I am very happy..." Tears flickered in Seville's eyes.
Although Mr. Crow apparently holds the financial power, Mr. Mage always secretly creates unexpected bills, which then suddenly explode one day, causing the tower's finances to fall into a slump... The most direct consequence is to go to the wilderness to dig wild vegetables.
Of course, all the decisions made by the master were correct. For every bill that even Darien felt was bewitched by a siren, Seville could find a reason for it to happen, but the premise was that his master could be honest instead of secretly cooking the books.
This was the first time Darien was so frank. His master had really grown up!
A duck down pillow was thrown at Mr. Crow's face by the angry Mr. Mage, and fell on the carpet along Mr. Crow's handsome face.
"What's there to be happy about when you lost money? Are you mocking my card skills?" Darien said viciously.
"Of course not. You have grown up, and I am sincerely happy for your growth. You wouldn't tell me before." There was relief in Seville's voice.
Darien couldn't help but get goosebumps all over his body. He wondered if the crow had been hit silly. Never mind, he just tried to fool it for now.
"I want to hear a bedtime story." He rolled up the quilt and said.
"Of course." Sewell tucked the quilt in for him.
Have a good night.
The next morning, Elvira slipped into Darien's room.
"Ms. Elvira." As soon as she opened the door, a voice came out from behind her.
Avella was startled and subconsciously picked up the vase and turned around.
Behind him was Mr. Crow's mature and steady face. The redness and small cuts on his lips did not detract from his handsomeness at all... Wait, redness and small cuts on his lips?
"Miss Elvira, please give me the vase. The master doesn't like to be disturbed in his sleep. If you have anything to say, you can tell me and I will pass it on for you." Seville whispered.
"Oh, oh, okay." Elvira handed the vase over in a daze, and then told the purpose of coming here.
She wanted to ask Darien to help create a heavy rainstorm with lightning and thunder that would last for several days so that she could take the opportunity to get close to Anna.
"I'll tell you." Sewell opened the door for her.
As Elvira slipped out, she took one last look at the room. The drooping curtains covered the large bed in the center of the room, and she saw nothing.
But they must have something going on!
Elvira crouched down and slipped away quickly. She would definitely keep the secret well!
Darien woke up half an hour later, and after breakfast, he hurriedly said goodbye to Lord Hayden.
"I would like to ask you to stay here for a few more days, read, row, fencing, and play musicals... There are so many things to do. In five days, it will be time for the dance. I really hope you can stay." Lord Hayden felt very sorry.
"Thank you for your kindness," Darien said. "We've just moved here, and there are still many things we need to take care of. I'm not confident leaving some things to the servants alone."
Actually, it’s not like that. He is just afraid of playing cards.
Lord Hayden's card table was so terrible that he had to resort to cheating to minimize his losses.
“Brother, I want to stay. I want to be with Sister Anna and Catherine. I haven’t seen playmates of the same age for a long time.” Elvira said in a coquettish tone.
She felt very happy here and it was wonderful to be with her dear mother.
I am really looking forward to the heavy rain in the next few days. When thunder and lightning split the sky, she can pretend to be scared and throw herself into her mother's arms and ask to sleep together. Her mother's bed must be very soft.
"Elvira." Darien frowned and pretended to be distressed.
"Brother, please." Elvira also pretended to beg.
"Let Elvira stay with us. We have a lot to do here." Ana couldn't help but speak up to help.
"Okay, okay." Darien shook his head helplessly, as if he was finally persuaded.
Elvira happily continued to pester Ana.
After returning to the manor, Darien watched Sevier count the money with displeasure.
"We need to go to an underground meeting." He said in a heavy voice.
"What is an underground meeting?" asked Sewell.
