Chapter 35: Money is money
Redmond opened his arms, wanting to hug his mother one last time.
"Mom, I miss you so much. Let me hug you one last time. I'm a complete villain. You'll definitely be much better off without me..."
His hand touched Melissa's shoulder, but he couldn't go any further.
"You lunatic! You lunatic! You lunatic!" Melissa couldn't hear him and fell into a kind of self-madness.
Blood was flowing from her hands, but it was not her blood. The woman used all her strength to stab Redmond in the heart.
"So that's how it is... So this is what the prophecy is... Mom, you will kill me..." Redmond looked at his heart and stumbled back a few steps.
The pain crawled from the heart to the limbs along the veins like a spider web. The vision gradually became dark and blurry, but the memory became clearer and brighter.
"Your sins are like the grains of sand on the ground, which cannot be counted. But your life will be ended by your mother," said the old fortune teller.
Redmond didn't believe in the so-called divination. He thought these people were pure scammers, so he didn't pay and kicked over the stall.
The old fortune teller did not come the next day, nor the day after that. He simply disappeared.
But the predictions he made to others all came true, and his subordinates were both happy and afraid because of the fulfilled predictions.
Redmond looked at his mother, the old, ugly, fierce old woman, with suspicion.
He hesitated for several days, and finally told the fortune teller's prediction to one of his fanatical followers one night.
That night he was very drunk and cursed the prophecy with a lot of resentment and resentment, and his fanatical followers immediately understood what he meant.
His mother fell in a pool of blood, no longer able to threaten his life.
After sobering up, Redmond was angry, but secretly delighted. He lightly punished his followers and then slid into the abyss of sin.
This was the first mistake he regretted, and recalling it often tormented him deeply.
Redmond stretched out his hand, trying to pull out the knife that was stuck in his heart, but he eventually lost his strength.
Melissa's hands trembled as she crawled over and pulled out the small knife that she had only used to cut dried meat. Her hands were so unsteady that the handle slipped out of her hand several times.
Redmond was still gasping for breath, so she pulled out the knife and stabbed him a few more times.
"Mother……"
Redmond wanted to hold her hand, tears streaming down his face from the corners of his eyes, and in the end he was unable to hug his mother again.
He died.
Melissa's hands were covered in blood. She sat there blankly, at a loss as to what to do. Suddenly, she came to her senses, rushed to little Redmond, and shook and hit him desperately.
"Redmond? Redmond!" She kept patting the thin body, then picked him up and held him to her heart.
This slapping lasted for about a minute or two. Then, with a "wow" sound, little Redmond spat out a large mouthful of water and opened his eyes.
"Mom... I feel so bad... Why am I here..." Little Redmond said confusedly.
"It's okay, it's okay! I'll take you home!" Melissa covered his eyes, hugged him tightly in her arms, and hurriedly ran towards the village.
Darien and Sevier witnessed everything from the tree, and only came down from the tree after Melissa ran away.
"He's dead," Darien said.
"Shall we bury him here, or throw him into the river?" asked Sewell.
Melissa killed him but was so flustered that she left without even thinking about disposing of the body.
"Take our reward first." Darien shook his head.
Sewell pulled out the sword, and the contract was gently placed beside Redmond. The words turned into light spots, like flames that burned the contract clean.
Darien dropped his head a little, looking at Redmond's face and thinking about what he had just said.
The prophecy that his mother would kill him.
His mother did kill him, but for him.
This was not a good ending for Redmond. The child who was held tightly in his mother's arms would grow up to be a villain that everyone feared.
Redmond didn't say everything, but Darien could vaguely guess that perhaps he had done something to his mother because of the prophecy.
"Since you are a former guest, I will give you some extra free services. Seville, go pick up a seed." said Darien.
Seville felt around and handed over an acorn.
Redmond's body was moved a little further away from the river bank, and the acorns quickly took root and sprouted in his body, and he grew into a tall and straight oak tree.
Then it's time to end it.
Darien asked Sewell to dismantle the bird's nest before leaving, and they returned to the tower together.
"How's the business this time?" asked Leon, who was hanging on the wall.
"Not much. While I was there I longed to return to the Tower," Darion replied.
"The guest didn't come back. Did he succeed in killing himself?" Leon asked.
"You talk too much," Darien told him.
Lyon usually doesn't pay much attention to the tower's business, but this special guest does tend to arouse his curiosity.
"He didn't kill himself, but found his end somewhere," Sewell replied kindly.
"Well, I guess so." Leon sighed.
Neither of them spoke of the subject again.
Darien instructed Sewell to redecorate the bird's nest they brought back, making it comfortable, gorgeous and practical.
Sewell believed that using gold to build the bird's nest, filling it with the softest velvet, and finally covering it with a thick layer of flannel...
Such a bird's nest will definitely be favored by Mr. Wizard.
But every gold coin in the tower corresponds to a bill, and a gorgeous bird's nest made of gold is not an easy wish to achieve.
The first thing Darien did after returning from the small village of Macaulay was to take a hot bath.
He always felt like he was a little pickled, so he added a lot of essential oils to the hot water and accidentally dropped a piece of soap in it.
Although the soap was fished out in time, after taking this bath he felt as if he had been pickled in flowers, and he would make people sneeze wherever he went.
The situation improved a lot after two days, and when Princess Yolanda came, she was lucky enough to be the first guest who did not sneeze.
"Good day, Your Highness. How is King Norman doing lately?" said Darien.
"He was a good king, but a little mentally ill. He seemed to see the souls of his brothers who were beheaded or hanged, and he shouted at the guards to drive them away," said Princess Yolanda.
"Anything else?" Darien asked.
"Well," Princess Yolanda chuckled softly, "he's starting to give off a foul smell of blood, the kind that even a bottle of perfume can't suppress. He's like a rotting corpse, and wherever he goes, the smell of perfume and corpse stench fills him."
"It's normal. He and his body should be having a rejection reaction soon." Darien nodded.
"What will happen, will he just watch himself rot away, or will Norman get his body back?" asked Princess Yolanda.
"He will be trapped in this body forever. He won't rot, but it will become more and more smelly. The stronger the stench, the less control he will have over this body, until he completely loses the ability to move," said Darian.
"This punishment is really gentle for him." Princess Yolanda sighed softly.
"But he has eyes that can see ghosts, doesn't he?" Darien smiled.
"That's true." Princess Yolanda also laughed, but the smile quickly faded. "Can you make me a poison? It needs to be colorless and tasteless, and even painless when dying. After drinking it, I die silently in my sleep."
"That's a very special request, but there is indeed such a potion. It's called Sweet Dreams, and it can make people die painlessly in a sweet dream." Darien was a little curious but didn't ask.
"I'm willing to pay 500 gold coins to buy it, and I hope you can keep it a secret for me," said Princess Yolanda.
"Of course, we never disclose the information of our guests. Please wait here for a moment, I will prepare it for you now. Seville, ask Mrs. Fitch for a plate of snacks, prepare enough tea, take out my collection of storybooks, and then come to me in the alchemy room." Darien immediately showed a sincere smile.
"Thank you for your hospitality. I will take good care of myself." Princess Yolanda suddenly felt a little amused.
It was not the most magnificent reception she had ever received, but it was much more pleasing to her than the finery and ornaments offered to her for flattery.
Darien walked into the alchemy room with a cheerful pace, found all the raw materials from the material cabinet, and started working without waiting for Seville to come up to help.
All the instruments in the alchemy room hurried to his side, and they loaded the materials that needed to be ground or pressed into their bodies. With a tinkling sound, the ore turned into powder, the herbs became finely crushed, and liquid medicines of different colors rolled in the distillation device.
Such a scene would only appear in the alchemy room when Darien was in a particularly good mood. The vessels seemed to be able to feel his joy and jumped around him lively.
Seville, who arrived halfway, was of no use and instead became a nuisance.
Darien asked him to stand in the corner and act like a human clock.
One by one, the refined potion ingredients were thrown into the crucible with sweet dreams and false fantasies as the base liquid. They rolled together, emitting fragrance that quickly disappeared, and various colors blended together, slowly becoming clear and transparent.
Just like a pot of clear water.
Darian directed the prepared sweet dream potion to jump into the glass bottle, and then he could go back to report to Princess Yolanda.
"It's very easy to use, just drink it." Darien handed the vial to Princess Yolanda.
"Thank you very much, Darien. You have done enough, so leave the rest to me. I look forward to seeing you next time." Princess Yolanda put down the book and took the sweet dream potion.
"I hope that next time we meet, I can address you as Your Majesty." Darien bowed slightly to her.
"Thank you for your blessing. I'll leave first. Goodbye." said Princess Yolanda.
"Goodbye." Darien nodded.
Princess Yolanda's skirt disappeared behind the gorse door, and Darien relaxed and leaned back. "When was our last bill?"
Sewell replied, "It will cost 23 days to decorate the carpets in all the rooms. The total cost is 348 gold coins."
Darien thought about it, but couldn't remember the recent accounts, so he used the Pluto summoning technique. He needed to check the accounts.
Pluto rolled out of the study, with a little gold-green ink on his tassel.
If nothing unexpected happens, he must be cheating again.
Darien was in a good mood, so he pretended not to see it and asked it to open yesterday's account and take a look.
"The accounting is good. You've made progress in arithmetic recently." Darien flipped through a few pages and didn't find any mistakes.
Sewell's arithmetic lessons were effective, and although Pluto's account keeping still needed corrections, it was much less than before.
Darien's mood reached a new peak. There were still 241 gold coins in his account, plus the 500 gold coins just paid by Princess Yolanda, it was simply unimaginably abundant.
It's time to check out some new wizarding gadgets to decorate the tower.
Darien thought with a cheerful mood.
So a supplier soon showed up.
"Oh, my dear Darien, I knew you would need my goods. Come and see: the green fluorite chandeliers handcrafted by the elves, the singing organ, the beautiful pearl shell candlesticks from the deep-sea mermaids..." Miss White Stork placed a thick product brochure in front of Darien.
Her face was full of smiles. Although Darien had not yet opened the book, her hand had already reached into Darien's purse, and she was sure to empty most of the bulging purse.
Is Darien a mage who can be seduced so easily?
Yes he is.
When the product brochure is opened, it is filled with a group of moving little people. Each page contains a different product. The little people are trying hard to rotate the miniature three-dimensional products for a full-dimensional display without blind spots.
"Dear Darien, look at this beautiful embroidered curtain. I asked the fairies to weave it for me when I went to Halverson. The material is very light and soft. The sunlight can pour in through the fine holes in the weaving, allowing the room to have soft sunlight without burning the skin." Miss White Stork introduced enthusiastically.
The three-dimensional figure in the booklet immediately rotated the curtain so that Darian could see the entire curtain clearly.
"You forget that sunlight is a scarce commodity here. I don't really need curtains like this." Darien was not interested in such curtains.
"What about this? It's a complete set of cupboards and display racks inlaid with gems. Putting it in a restaurant will definitely make the entire restaurant more dazzling. Look at the gems inlaid on it, distributed along the carved patterns. The purity of each gem is high enough. With only the light of a candle, each gem can reflect a charming colorful halo." Miss White Stork gave a basic introduction to the products on the next page.
"It's quite beautiful." Darien couldn't take his eyes off the beautiful gem.
Seville stood behind him and was also attracted by the beautiful color.
This master and servant have similar hobbies, so it's a good fit for them to search for the dragon's treasure together.
"Oh, my dear Darian, you are really very lucky. I bought this cabinet from a nobleman. It is well preserved, but I couldn't sell it. I reflected on it and thought that the price was too high, so I decided to lower the price." Miss White Stork said with a smile.
Darien, also a businessman, was not yet completely overwhelmed by the beautiful gems. He asked, "How much is this cabinet?"
Miss White Stork said, "It's not expensive at all. You can take it home for only 20 gold coins."
ha?
That's pretty inexpensive.
Darien suspected that he was hallucinating, so he asked the same question again.
Miss White Stork said, "Yes, you heard me right. It only takes 20 gold coins, but these gold coins are very special. I need the 20 gold coins from Queen Roland."
Darien's brow furrowed. "Name a new price. This cabinet isn't worth this price."
Miss White Stork sighed softly.
