Chapter 54 Hug them and they all turned into stars
Mrs. Fitch's cooking skills were as good as ever. Cynthia ate slowly but conscientiously, finishing all the food.
The lamb is very tender. It is fried on both sides in brown mutton fat, dyed with a honey-brown color. A little bit of mutton fat that was deliberately not removed curls up into crispy edges, adding some taste to the tender lamb.
Garlic is added to the green sauce made from basil leaves, parsley and mint, mixed with olive oil and a little sugar to enhance the flavor. The refreshing taste can dissolve the greasy taste of mutton fat.
"It's delicious. I love this lamb," said Cynthia.
"Mrs. Fitch will definitely like you." Darien said with a smile.
She ate a few thin slices of lamb clean, mopping up the sauce at the bottom of the plate with a piece of white bread and swallowing it all.
Mrs. Fitch loved guests who finished their food thoroughly, and she would be talking about Cynthia for a long time to come.
It was a delightful dinner, the guests were satisfied and the host was delighted.
When the after-meal dessert was served, Cynthia's smile became even more surprised. She carefully poked the sponge pudding with a fork and watched the sticky syrup slowly flow into the plate.
"I still remember the way Karan looked the first time he tried this dessert. He dipped too much maple syrup in it and it was so sweet that it penetrated his teeth. He looked so funny with a frown on his face as he swallowed the sweet sponge pudding." She rested one hand on her face and lost herself in memory.
"Time makes people grow. The last time he ate this dessert, it wasn't so sweet that it stung his teeth," said Darian.
"He likes this dessert too, right?" Cynthia asked.
Darien couldn't remember anything from such a long time ago, so he quickly winked at Sevier.
"Yes, Mr. Karan ate the whole dessert," Sevier replied.
"He really likes sponge pudding covered with maple syrup, but he always denies it and tells me he doesn't like it, then asks me for help." Cynthia smiled.
The dinner ended in a pleasant atmosphere. Cynthia had limited energy, so she returned to her room early to rest.
She was both uneasy and impatient to see Avery again.
She made a request to Darien, and Darien promised her that he would fulfill her wish after breakfast tomorrow.
It was a rare good day in the tower tonight, with the stars shining high in the night sky like a black curtain.
"Today I want to listen to a fairy tale about love," said Darien.
"Okay, please wait a moment." Sewell tucked the quilt for him.
"It has to have a happy ending." Darien moved around in the quilt and stretched his arms out from the tightly covered quilt.
"Okay, dear master." Sewell opened a storybook. "A long time ago, there was a lovely girl who lived in a small village."
This lovely girl is busy taking care of the sheep every day, herding sheep, milking sheep, making cheese... and many other sheep-related tasks.
One day when she was herding sheep on the grassland, she picked up a wounded wolf. The girl was afraid at first, but the wolf's sad eyes softened her heart.
She bandaged its wound carefully, and then they never saw each other again.
The wolf knew how to repay a favor. When the girl had almost forgotten the incident, she received a rabbit and a pheasant as a thank you gift.
One day later, the girl was driving her flock of sheep when she encountered a rainstorm. She lost her way in the rain and she and her flock walked into a psychedelic forest.
There were many monsters in the forest. The girl bravely waved her whip to drive them away, but she could not find a way out. She cried sadly while hugging her lamb.
"And then?" Darien listened intently.
"Then, two green lights slowly approached her. When they were very close to her, she realized that they were not lights." Sewell turned a page of the book.
Darien huddled down under the covers.
"It's a wolf, and it looks a little familiar." Sewell noticed it, with a hint of laughter in his voice.
The girl couldn't help but scream and raised the whip in her hand.
Her whip was caught, and a young man with wolf ears appeared in front of her. He told her not to be afraid and that he would lead her and her flock out of the forest.
The girl was brought back to the village safely. The wolf boy's face turned a little red, and he begged the girl to let him stay.
"He said he could take care of the flock, bring her back from any corner where she got lost, and he could also hunt by himself. The girl looked at his fluffy ears and agreed to his request. So they lived happily together." Sewell closed the storybook.
"This story isn't interesting enough...and the romance only has a slight edge..." Darien was a little dissatisfied, but sleepiness had already enveloped him.
He didn't finish his words and fell asleep immediately leaning on the soft pillow.
Seville felt a little guilty for a rare moment, so he put the storybook away and ran away without even giving her a goodnight kiss.
The next morning, Cynthia woke up early.
She slept very little and had some pain in her heart, but she was very happy.
She could finally meet Karan again, although she didn't know what to say to him. She had prepared many words, but the most likely scenario was that he would keep his mouth shut when they met.
"You get up so early. How about some simple pancakes? You can spread honey or jam on them. Do you like orange jam? We also have apple jam." Darien said to Cynthia.
"Okay, I haven't eaten pancakes for a long time. For a long time, my breakfast was oatmeal porridge with a little sugar, which was said to be for health. I hope my pancakes can be spread with orange jam. The sour and sweet taste must be delicious." Cynthia said.
"Don't you need a glass of cherry wine in the morning for your health now?" Darien laughed.
"Yes, I really liked the cherry wine I drank last night. It tasted sweet," said Cynthia.
They quickly finished breakfast, and Darien and Sevier took Cynthia all the way to the top of the tower.
The tower was very high. Cynthia walked and stopped, holding on to the rough walls. Darien offered her his arm, but she refused.
"This is the last section of the road. I want to walk all the way up on my own." Cynthia shook her head.
They walked for a while, and Avery also took a long time to walk that road. Darien looked at Cynthia's back and felt that her figure was gradually overlapping with Avery's.
Before pushing open the door to the top floor, Cynthia did not forget to tell Darien which corner of her room her inheritance was in so they could look for it when they brought her back.
"Are you ready?" Darien asked.
"I'm ready. This is like a dream. It's so wonderful that this day can come." Cynthia took a deep breath.
"Then open this door," said Darien.
Cynthia pushed open the door in front of her with a heavy push.
The starry sky room on the top of the tower was dark. As they walked in, the floor tiles under their feet were lit up one by one, and the dim star map above their heads began to flicker gradually.
"Please stand here, Miss Cynthia, and give me your hand," Darien said. "Sevier, the contract."
Cynthia put one hand into his palm, and he took the contract with the other hand.
Just like last time, Darien threw the contract with Cynthia's name on it up. The contract floated in the air, and the words on it turned into light spots, all floating towards Cynthia's body.
On the star map above their heads, a dazzling star grew brighter and brighter, a meteor streaked across the sky, and an illusory figure became clearer and clearer.
Cynthia's body became heavier, but her soul became lighter. Her body was pale and weak, but her soul was lively and bright. The soul, shining with golden light, finally broke free from the body that bound her and flew towards the hand that welcomed her.
Avery's spirit reached out to her, and she placed her hand in it. Avery held onto hers, and they embraced in mid-air.
"Karan, it's nice to meet you again." Cynthia's voice trembled.
"Me too." Avery hugged her tighter.
The light souls rose together, becoming smaller and smaller until they were embedded in the star map hanging high above.
The two stars were close together. After being separated by a long river of time, they finally embraced each other again.
The room fell into darkness again, with only the starry sky above shimmering faintly.
"Okay, it's time for us to send Cynthia back." Darien caught Cynthia's body.
Without the soul, the body is just an empty shell. Cynthia had a smile on her face, and she must be very happy.
They took Cynthia downstairs, through the gorse door, and brought her back to her bed in her bedroom.
She had not been away long, and it was still night there.
"Good night, good girl." Darien tucked the quilt into her.
Sewell stood by the bed in silence for a while, then began to carefully search for the inheritance Cynthia left them.
It's a jewelry box in a drawer.
The small key was inserted into the lock, and with a click, the jewelry box popped open.
Inside were Cynthia's old jewelry, which was her personal legacy and would not belong to the royal family after her death.
"Put the box back on," Darien said. "I've received a very good gift, and I'm very happy. Help me find Cynthia's diary, and I'll cast a little magic on it."
"Okay, master." Sewell closed the box without any reluctance.
They searched the bedroom for a moment and found the journal, which Darien cast a small enchantment spell on.
Everything is done and they can go back now.
For a long time afterwards, Darien was in a very good mood, and even when he was woken up by Hawkins' dragon, he rarely got irritable.
Hawkins left his dragon here. He lived according to his nocturnal habits and went back to look after his house from time to time. He was very busy.
Pluto was very happy. Every day he protected his little dragon brother and jumped up and down in every corner of the tower.
Since no damage was done to the tower, Darien simply pretended not to see it.
One morning while eating chocolate pancakes for breakfast, the magic shop welcomed a particularly grumpy guest.
When he entered, the shell bell on the door rang particularly loudly, jingling so loudly that it almost made people's ears fall off.
"Welcome to the Magic Shop... It's you, Glenn. What's going on? Why are you here?" Darien covered his ears and frowned.
"Darian! You don't know what I've been going through lately! I lost my hammer! That's terrible!" Glenn shouted angrily.
"You're being too loud." Darien felt his head buzzing.
Glenn is a sturdy dwarf who has an important business cooperation with Darien. All the magical instruments he makes will be sent to the store for Darien to engrave magic spells on them.
Darien's products are always more durable.
But now he's lost his hammer, and without his old friend, it's hard for him to forge those wonderful magic items.
So as his partner, Darian had to come and help him.
