Chapter 56: Desert Journey
When enemies meet, they are extremely jealous of each other. Glenn rushed forward, picked up the goblin Graham, and gave him two symmetrical slaps.
Graham had his eyes closed, but the two slaps were so powerful that his whole body was shaking. His eyes were still closed, but he opened his mouth and vomited.
Seville was quick-witted and quick-handed, and he circled Darien and retreated more than ten steps.
Glenn was the only one who got hurt, and the vomit mixture covered him.
The goblin he was holding in his hand finally woke up slowly.
"I'm not dead yet." Graham felt pain in his face and dizziness in his head.
"You're going to die soon!" Glenn threw him back into the pile of mushrooms viciously.
"You two stay away from us." Darien pinched his nose and took a few steps back.
"You are, you are Glenn." Graham struggled to crawl out of the mushroom pile, widening his eyes to identify him carefully.
"I am! You damn goblin! I'm going to settle accounts with you now!" Glenn threw his soiled clothes to the ground with a tearing sound.
The poor goblin is about to get a beating.
Darien covered his eyes, leaving a wide gap between his fingers. It would be impolite to just watch the fun, so he felt the need to cover up.
The atmosphere was tense. Just as Glenn was about to grab Graeme, something unexpected happened.
"Glenn! You are really my savior!" Graham flew over and hugged Glenn's thighs.
This made the sturdy dwarf look completely stunned, and he raised his hand high in the air, at a loss as to what to do.
After a moment of stunned silence, Glenn swung his legs wildly: "Hey, hey, hey! Don't try to get away with it!"
Graham clung to his legs. "I accidentally ate poisonous mushrooms. If you hadn't come to find me, I would have died soon!"
Darien put down his hand, stood on tiptoe and glanced at the scattered mushrooms from a distance. The colors were very colorful. Graeme was really lucky to be alive.
Now, his new business is coming in again.
He cleared his throat, stepped forward, and said, "If you've accidentally eaten poisonous mushrooms, simply vomiting them out isn't enough. You'll probably need an antidote, or you'll feel sick for days and even suffer from aftereffects."
Glenn had just ripped Graeme from his legs and held him up to Darien with disdain so the two of them could have a proper conversation.
Graeme was still dizzy, and everyone he saw had a rainbow halo: "Why is there a rainbow above your head?"
Darien said, "You'd better take the medicine now, otherwise there's no hope. A bottle of antidote only costs one gold coin. I believe you can make the right choice."
Graeme immediately took out the money and said, "Give me three bottles!"
Darien regretted quoting a low price, but earning 3 gold coins was not bad either, so he happily took the money and handed over the potion.
Graham drank the antidote, and his mind, which had been confused for a while, finally became clear. When he looked up, he saw Glenn with a murderous look on his face.
His tongue was tied: "Glenn, you you you you -"
Glenn said, "What are you talking about? Give me back my precious hammer! You have to compensate me for lost wages! Do you know how many orders I have backlogged?"
Graham quietly defended himself, "I did steal your hammer... but, but, I regretted it as soon as I climbed out the window, so I hid it in the flowerpot by the pond outside your window."
His voice became lower and lower, and he knew that he was in the wrong and deserved to be beaten for being caught stealing.
Glenn got even angrier. "Don't even mention the pond! I still haven't caught all the frogs you threw in there! Flowerpot, wait, which flowerpot are you talking about?"
Graeme said, "It's the tall one with the two ears and the ugly human face. I hid the hammer in it."
Glenn jumped up. "Ahhhhhh! That's my shipment! It's been mailed! It's grown wings and flown away!"
Darien asked, "Whose cargo is this? Where did you send it?"
Glenn had a terrible headache. "This cargo was ordered by Leonard, a businessman. He came with his griffin to pick it up yesterday. I heard he's heading off to a city in the desert to make some big purchases. He should have flown far away by now!"
Darien said, "That's a shame. I didn't realize the divination clues actually pointed in two directions. Which direction did he go?"
Glenn said, "If I remember correctly, it should be due north. I remember the name of that city was, what was it called... Abidor, yes, Abidor."
Darien thought for a moment and said, "Is that the name? I just feel like it's not right."
Sewell said, "If you look from Mr. Glenn's window and face due north toward the Iskander Desert, the city should be called Abidal."
Glenn slapped his head and said, "Ohhhh! That's right! It must be Abidal!"
Darien asked, "How long will it take Mr. Leonard to reach Abidal by griffin?"
Glenn said: "Based on my travel experience, it should take about three days."
Darien said, "That means it will take Mr. Leonard at least two days to reach Abidal. The Plantagenet Gate can't reach places without gates. We have to wait two more days."
Glenn went from being irritable to dejected. "There's nothing we can do... Alas, the griffin flies very fast. There's no way we can catch up with Leonard. Alas..."
Graeme, realizing he had made a huge mistake, said cautiously, "I owe you some compensation for lost wages. This is all my fault, and I'll find a way to make it up to you."
Glenn took a look at the goblin. It had small arms and legs and didn't look very capable of working. He didn't know how much savings it could save.
He sighed and said, "Forget it, forget it. You're not going to make much money. Come and help me blow out the furnace. Just consider it as compensation for the loss during this period. Once I finish all the orders that have piled up, you won't have to come anymore."
Graeme clenched his palms nervously: "I'll try my best to help!"
Darien said, "Then I'll see you in two days."
Glenn said, "Well, I'll come back in two days."
The anxious dwarf treasured his hammer so much that he did not wait two days, but followed Darion back to the tower.
During the two days that Glenn was in the tower, he raided the tower's wine cellar. Darien had never remembered the existence of such a place in the tower until Sewell shoveled the drunk Glenn out of their wine cellar.
"How many barrels of wine have we lost?" Darien's expression was sour.
"A barrel of beer and two large barrels of wine. Fortunately, our wine cabinet in the kitchen was not attacked," replied Sewell.
"Very good, now attach all the locks you can find to that wine cabinet. I don't want my babies to suffer any harm." Darien gave the order coldly.
"What about the one in the cellar?" asked Sewell.
"When he sobers up, I'll collect his money. One gold coin per barrel of wine," Darien said. "I never thought Glenn could get so drunk. He doesn't usually seem to like drinking so much."
"I've heard that good blacksmiths all have their own little quirks," Sewell said. "Many people think that as long as it doesn't interfere with their work, it's harmless."
"If he hadn't attacked my wine cellar, I wouldn't have minded at all," Darien said, a little unhappy. "I brewed all the wine in the cellar myself, and I haven't even tasted it yet."
"Mr. Glenn is so abominable." Sewell said sincerely.
So at dinner time, Glenn, who had sobered up, ate a plate of spicy chili stewed cod. He grabbed the wine glass and poured it into his mouth, but it became even spicier when it entered his mouth.
"Oh my God! What kind of pepper is this? Aren't you afraid of spicy food at all?" Glenn had tears streaming down his face, and he was the only one who was screaming from the spiciness.
"It's just ordinary smoked sweet chili. I don't think it's that spicy." Darien forked a piece of fish from the plate and put it into his mouth.
Sewell smiled and filled his glass with half a glass of kirsch.
Two days passed in a flash, and they were finally able to set off for the desert city of Abidal. Darien was very happy to be able to send Glenn, the drunkard, away.
Sewell was also very happy.
The desert city was extremely hot, and Darien couldn't stand the dry and hot weather, so he carefully selected two wizard robes that could not only protect him from the wind and sand but also bring him coolness.
Before leaving, he glanced at Mr. Crow, who was dressed in black, and felt that Mr. Crow looked very hot in this outfit, so he pretended to casually throw a wizard robe to Mr. Crow and asked him to put it on quickly.
"Dear master, you are very thoughtful and considerate." Seville's smile spread to the largest on his face.
"Control that expression on your face. Your smile is a little too ugly." Darien turned his face away.
"Okay, dear master." Seville still had a smile on his face.
Glenn had his own cloak, and he was already dressed and standing by the door waiting for them to leave.
As soon as I pushed open the gorse door, a strong gust of wind and sand blew in.
"Pah pah pah pah pah!" Glenn, who was walking in front, accidentally swallowed a mouthful of sand.
"It's so hot outside." Darien took a look and didn't want to go outside.
But as long as he could complete the commission and collect the money earlier, he put on his hat and walked out.
The city in the desert looks yellow everywhere: the sand is yellow, the stone slabs are yellow, and even the brick walls are yellow.
Such a color is too dazzling and needs more brilliant colors to match it.
Maybe because of this, people living in the desert prefer bright colors. The bed sheets and clothes they wear are very bright. Darian feels that the people coming and going on the street are walking flowers.
"It's really dizzying here," Glenn said. "With all the hot weather and all the vibrant colors, I feel like I'm getting even hotter. If I hadn't lost my precious hammer, we should have a cold beer first."
"After you find your hammer, you can go to the tavern and drink some cold beer as you wish. Do you know where the merchants are staying? This can help us save a little time." said Darian.
"I need to think about it. I remember Leonard said that he came to the desert to make spices. We can go to the spice market and take a look. Maybe we can find Leonard by asking a few more spice suppliers." Glenn said.
"I remember that jar. It's a water tank that can store a lot of water, right? So if Leonard knew there was an extra hammer inside, he would drink the water in the jar for several days..." Darian only said half of his words.
"I will definitely lose my reputation!" Glenn didn't dare to imagine what expression the businessman Leonard would have. He must want to beat him up!
"Perhaps not." Darien turned to look at Sewell, "Take out our map and find the direction of the spice market."
"We should hire a carriage. This city is not big, but there are three spice markets. The nearest one will take at least two hours to walk to." Seville said after looking at the map.
"Well, where's the place to hire a carriage?" Darien asked.
"Gentlemen, I can rent out my carriage. Wherever you want to go, my horses run very fast. They can run for a whole day for only 5 silver coins. It will definitely be a good idea to hire us!" A local man with tanned skin heard their conversation and immediately ran forward to recommend himself.
"Good, pay up, Glenn." Darien turned to look at Glenn.
"Well, okay, okay, I hope I can get my precious hammer back today." Glenn could only reach into his wallet.
"Thank you for your generosity. My name is Willen and I will be your driver for the next day." The local man smiled with his shiny teeth.
"Wyren, take us to the spice market here," said Darien.
"No problem! Cheer up! Karen! Elizabeth!" Willen shook the reins.
The carriage was not very spacious, but it was stable on the road. The three of them were squeezed in the carriage, like the remaining pickled olives in a jar, squeezing and swaying from side to side.
"Glenn! Don't push over here!" Darien was hit on the knee by the dwarf like a hammer.
"I don't want to do that either!" Glenn bared his teeth and covered the bump on his forehead.
"Please forgive my offense, my dear master." Sewell reached out and embraced Darien.
Darien frowned and tried to push him, but when he realized he could sit more steadily when he was trapped, he simply endured it.
The two horses clunked along the cobblestone road, and after a long time, they finally arrived at the nearest spice market.
It's not the busiest time yet. It's coolest in the desert around dusk, and vendors won't set up their stalls at noon.
It was shortly after noon, and only a few stalls had displayed their towering towers of spices.
"We're here, gentlemen. If you want to visit the spice market, you should wait another hour. The street will become lively in an hour," said Willen.
"An hour is a bit too long," Darien said. "But there really aren't many people around right now. Let's start by asking the shop owners."
"This is the only way." Glenn jumped off the carriage and rushed to the nearest shopkeeper.
They were very lucky. They only had to ask three shop owners and found out Leonard's whereabouts.
But Leonard was very unlucky.
