0037 Don't stop me

0037 Don't stop me

After their tender moment, the two lay in bed.

Song Ning nestled lazily against Shen Yuxiu's chest, gently playing with his neatly trimmed fingers: "Have you been very busy lately?"

Shen Yuxiu hummed in agreement: "A bit busier than usual."

"What are you busy with?"

Shen Yuxiu did not answer directly: "It's not that I'm hiding a woman outside."

Song Ning ignored Shen Yuxiu's teasing, picked up Shen Yuxiu's index finger to examine it, and casually said in a tone as if she were chatting: "I received a letter today."

"Who wrote it?" Shen Yuxiu echoed.

“I don’t know him. He said he’s my parents’ best friend, and his surname is Ding.” Song Ning touched the callus on his index finger.

“Your parents don’t have any friends with the surname Ding,” Shen Yuxiu said.

Song Ning released Shen Yuxiu's hand, slowly sat up, her ample chest exposed: "How do you know there wasn't? You weren't much older than me back then."

Shen Yuxiu didn't argue with her about the age issue. He propped himself up, raised the pillow, and leaned against the headboard in a relaxed posture: "Because he said best friends. Your parents don't have many best friends, but I just happen to have heard of them."

Song Ning stared at Shen Yuxiu, not wanting to miss any expression on his face: "The letter was sent from the Southern Soviet Prison."

Shen Yuxiu calmly asked, "Where's the letter? Did you bring it?"

Song Ning examined Shen Yuxiu for a while but couldn't see anything amiss, so he got out of bed to get the letter.

She had put the package, envelope, and letter into the drawer of the TV cabinet. She got out of bed barefoot, took a few pieces of paper, and then went to retrieve the package.

Song Ning picked up the package and entered the room. She saw Shen Yuxiu raise an eyebrow at her, looking like he was trying not to laugh. She suppressed her embarrassment and pretended to be calm: "Maybe there are fingerprints on it."

Song Ning handed the letter to Shen Yuxiu, but seeing that he was about to take it directly, he withdrew his hand, took the letter back, and then took out two more pieces of paper and stuffed them into Shen Yuxiu's hands, ordering, "You are not allowed to take it with your hands."

"Okay, is this alright?" Shen Yuxiu couldn't help but chuckle as he held the package and letter in his hand with a piece of paper.

Song Ning glared at Shen Yuxiu, then climbed onto the bed and sat on Shen Yuxiu's lap through the blanket: "Professor Shen, have you found any clues?"

"Not for now." Shen Yuxiu smiled, but his smile was different from his usual nonchalant one. There was something different in his smile, and although it was fleeting, Song Ning still keenly noticed it.

Song Ning clicked her tongue, snatched the letter from his hand, and put it back into the package: "Then can you find out who sent it to me?"

"I'm not a policeman, let the police investigate." Shen Yuxiu put down the tissue in his hand and placed his hand on her upright buttocks and legs.

"Will the police investigate?" Song Ning put the package on the bedside table.

"Probably," Shen Yuxiu replied.

"I want to investigate myself." Song Ning hugged Shen Yuxiu, afraid that the police wouldn't investigate.

"How do you plan to investigate?" Shen Yuxiu asked.

"Please hire someone."

“Sure, I’ll pay.” Shen Yuxiu tilted his head back slightly, his Adam’s apple prominent, exuding a languid charm that came with the pleasure of lovemaking, which was very sexy.

“I can pay for it myself.” Song Ning crawled forward a small step, lifted his chin, and looked down at him. “Just don’t stop me.”

"Why are you stopping me?" Shen Yuxiu grabbed her flirtatious hand and held it in his palm.

"Don't stop me from investigating." Song Ning said seriously.

"How can I stop him?" Shen Yuxiu smiled, as if to say that I didn't have that much ability.

Song Ning knew he had it; he was feigning weakness and ignorance, deliberately refusing to answer her directly.

She angrily leaned down, bit his lip, then released it and said frankly, "I want to use this person to investigate the cause of my parents' deaths."

Shen Yuxiu remained silent, his face clouded with emotion, his eyes holding a depth that Song Ning could not comprehend.

Song Ning continued, as if she were confessing: "I've never understood why, even though my mother died in a car accident, I keep dreaming that she's covered in blood, even her eyes. I feel like all of you are lying to me, and even I feel like I'm lying to myself. You can choose not to tell me the truth, but don't stop me from investigating. I'm not stupid. If I didn't know what you were doing behind my back the first time, how could I not know the second or third time?"

Song Ning's mother died in a car accident, but she didn't believe it, she had never believed it since she was a child, even though her mind clearly told her that she was at the scene of the accident that day, even though the doctors who treated her told her that she refused to believe it because she was frightened, that she had nightmares every night because of the trauma of the accident, and that she avoided the ancestral home because she couldn't accept the death of her parents...

She still refused to believe it.

Because of this, she had people investigate the cause of her parents' deaths, but those people either told her that too much time had passed and it was impossible to investigate, or they told her that they already knew the facts. She even suspected that she had a mental problem, which was why she was being so paranoid.

But one time, someone she found told her that someone had come to him and wanted him to give up the investigation. At first, that person refused, but later, for some reason, that person gave her a result, and that result was exactly the same as everyone else's—death in an accidental car accident.

During the investigation, he said there were suspicious points, but in the end he told her that was the truth.

She went to see that person several more times. That person only told her about the characteristics of the person who had contacted him before, which were very similar to Shen Yuxiu, or rather, it was Shen Yuxiu.

Later, she asked several people to confirm, and only one of them admitted that someone had indeed prevented him from investigating, and that he couldn't afford to offend that person. According to him, Song Ning could hardly think of anyone other than Shen Xiaoyue.

Now, only this letter seems to be telling her that her suspicions were correct, and that one of her previously confused memories holds the truth she seeks.

She needs the truth, so she needs the person who is obstructing her investigation to help her, or at least not stop her.

Shen Yuxiu winced in pain, raised his hand to touch his lower lip, and saw a trace of blood on his fingertip. He smiled helplessly: "Do you remember when you were a child, you insisted on going to the ancestral home?"

"I remember." Song Ning tasted blood in her mouth, his blood. She swallowed the taste and said in a muffled voice.

“That day, I felt very guilty.” Shen Yuxiu looked deeply into Song Ning’s eyes, his voice low and gentle. “Later, I kept thinking, if you asked again, should I take you or stop you from going?”

"So you chose to stop me from going?" Song Ning knew that Shen Yuxiu was not only referring to the ancestral home, but also to secretly preventing her from investigating the cause of her parents' death.

"Isn't it the same now that people get headaches as soon as they go in? Is it really necessary to investigate?" Shen Yuxiu once again evaded her question.

"Yes, I want to investigate." Song Ning looked directly at Shen Yuxiu with an unprecedented firmness.

Shen Yuxiu remained silent.

Song Ning pleaded softly, "Shen Yuxiu..."

"Understood, no one will stop you anymore," Shen Yuxiu replied. "Would you like me to introduce you to the people conducting the investigation?"

Song Ning shook her head: "I'll find it myself."

"You don't even believe me?" Shen Yuxiu was unusually annoyed and lightly patted Song Ning's buttocks.

How many lies has he told already? If he had admitted his feelings for her earlier, she wouldn't have had to suffer so much.

"Looks like you really don't believe me." Shen Yuxiu flipped over and pinned Song Ning down.

“I do believe you, I know you keep your word, but I still want to find it myself.”

Only in this way can she truly believe that it is the truth, instead of repeatedly questioning the results of each investigation.

"I can investigate, but I can't be in danger. Can you agree to that?" Shen Yuxiu's eyes were tender, yet tinged with melancholy.

There were still shallow bite marks on Shen Yuxiu's lips, marks she had deliberately left. Song Ning raised her hand to touch them: "Does it hurt?"

Shen Yuxiu grabbed her hand, a hint of displeasure in his voice: "Let's make this clear first."

"It's just investigating a car accident, what danger could there be?" Song Ning said casually.

“Song Ning?!” Shen Yuxiu exclaimed sharply.

"You care about me a lot, don't you?" Song Ning smiled smugly.

"care."

Song Ning's chest pounded: "Then you should just tell me the truth."

"Would you believe me if I told you?" Shen Yuxiu smiled wryly.

"I don't believe it." Song Ning's face turned cold. She didn't even believe herself anymore, and she didn't even know if the person she had asked this time would believe her in the end.

"Will you agree? If you don't, I'll break the contract." Shen Yuxiu suppressed his bitterness and threatened coldly.

"Okay, fine." Song Ning glanced at Shen Yuxiu's lower body. "Do you want to do it again? It seems to be hard again."

"..." Shen Yuxiu hugged Song Ning, turned over and lay on his side, wrapping his arms around her tightly. "I'm not doing it anymore. Just hugging for a while is enough."

Song Ning nodded. Actually, she was quite tired too, and she wasn't too keen on him doing it.
