0064 Bait
"Okay, I understand."
In a double-height study, Shen Yuxiu sat on a beige curved sofa, hung up his phone, stuffed it into his coat pocket, and continued what he had been saying when the phone call interrupted him, "Isn't it Fu Hong's people helping him?"
Jiang Xisheng sat at a mahogany desk with his hands behind his head, not answering immediately: "What trouble has that crazy girl gotten into this time?"
He couldn't find another person who could make Shen Yuxiu show such a "don't know what to do" expression.
"I haven't caused any trouble, I've just become obsessed with shooting," Shen Yuxiu said. "Let's get down to business."
Jiang Xisheng would never believe him. He's just obsessed with shooting. If he looks this grim, given his volatile temper, he's probably going to cause trouble again.
I have no idea what he saw in that guy.
Jiang Xisheng shrugged: "No. Fu Hong and Fu Cong don't get along. Back then, they did a lot of things to sabotage each other in their fight for her father's company. Thirteen years ago, she even sold out her own father to clear her name. Now, she's just a successful businesswoman on the surface. There's no need for her to risk herself for a brother with whom she doesn't get along."
He added, "Besides, she's too busy taking care of herself right now. Last time you shorted her company's stock, it caused her company's stock to plummet. She's already overwhelmed dealing with those shareholders and doesn't have time to care about Fu Cong."
"Then Cao Wenliang is the only possibility left." This is the only possibility that Shen Yuxiu can think of at the moment.
After a two-second silence, Jiang Xisheng said, "If that's the case, then it's going to be difficult. 'The people can't fight against the officials,' as the old saying goes."
He asked, "Isn't your grandfather willing to help?"
Shen Yuxiu shook his head: "Without evidence, he won't get involved."
"It won't be easy for you to find evidence against him."
“It’s not entirely hopeless,” Shen Yuxiu said. “What if he’s targeting the old man’s family? You know, the old man is extremely protective of his own.”
Shen Yuxiu spoke casually, but Jiang Xisheng was not as relaxed as him. They had known each other for so many years, and Jiang Xisheng could tell what Shen Yuxiu was thinking with just a glance.
"no."
Shen Yuxiu remained calm: "I'm not asking for your opinion, I'm here to ask for your help."
Jiang Xisheng knew all too well that once Shen Yuxiu made up his mind, he wouldn't easily change it. He warned, "I don't care what you're thinking, I'm not going to help you. You better give up on that idea."
Shen Yuxiu leaned back: "If you help me, I'll only be a little frightened. If you don't help me, I can't guarantee how frightened I'll be."
Jiang Xisheng got angry: "Are you two both sick? You both like threatening people, don't you?"
"It's trust. I believe in you, which is why I dare to take the risk." Shen Yuxiu spoke from the bottom of his heart.
"Don't flatter me! It's useless! Don't even think about it! It's impossible!" Jiang Xisheng refused decisively.
Shen Yuxiu didn't insist. He stood up from the sofa and walked towards the door.
"Damn it! Stop right there!" Jiang Xisheng called out to Shen Yuxiu.
Shen Yuxiu stopped walking, but did not turn around.
The meaning was clear: if he agreed, they would continue talking; if he didn't agree, he would go back.
Jiang Xisheng cursed under his breath: "What do you want me to do?"
Song Ning practiced until the shooting range closed before leaving. As she exited the range, she rubbed her sore shoulders and saw that the flower shop was about to close.
She suddenly remembered what the shop assistant had said last time, and quickened her pace: "Excuse me, could you sell me a bouquet of flowers?"
The shop assistant turned around, looking reluctant to work overtime: "Sorry, we're closed."
Actually, Song Ning didn't necessarily want it; it was just a whim. But since the other party wasn't willing, then so be it.
Song Ning turned and left, feeling disappointed, perhaps due to her poor performance on the moving target earlier.
On the way back, for some reason, the image of this bouquet kept popping into my mind, and the closer I got to Shen Yuxiu's house, the more I wanted it.
Song Ning stopped the car, took off her gloves, took out her phone, ordered a bouquet online, and filled in Shen Yuxiu's address as the delivery address.
After the start of the semester, she nominally moved back to the dormitory, but she actually stayed at Shen Yuxiu's house for the past two days.
Their school doesn't have room checks or curfews, so management is very free. Her roommates also knew she had a boyfriend outside of school, and they didn't say anything about her staying out all night.
After all, apart from Lin Qianqian, the other two had even busier schedules than her and didn't have the energy to worry about whether she went back to sleep or not.
When Song Ning got home, Shen Yuxiu hadn't returned yet, and the flowers she ordered hadn't been delivered. She called the deliveryman and told him to leave the flowers at the door if he arrived.
After saying that, she went to take a shower. When she came out, she saw a delivery notification on her phone and knew that the flowers had arrived.
She opened the door, and the deliveryman was very thoughtful, even putting the flowers in a small cardboard box, perhaps to prevent them from getting dirty if placed on the ground.
She brought the flowers and cardboard box into the house, placed the flowers on the coffee table in the living room, thinking of giving Shen Yuxiu a surprise.
But Shen Yuxiu still hadn't returned by midnight.
Song Ning called him, but the call didn't go through, which is very unusual for him.
The longer time passed, the more worried Song Ning became.
Song Ning felt as if her internal organs were being fried in oil. She stared anxiously at the bouquet of flowers, her mind telling herself to calm down and her heart telling herself not to overthink it, but the terrifying image kept haunting her.
Before she got here, she had forgotten that Fu Cong wanted more than just her to die; he wanted her to die a painful death.
She knew that crying was the most useless thing to do at this moment, but her hand trembled uncontrollably as she called the police, and her voice betrayed a hint of trembling sobs.
"Hello, I want to call the police. I can't reach my boyfriend, I can't get through to him on the phone. He's never like this before, I'm worried about him..."
Song Ning dared not utter the words "something happened," fearing that if she did, it would come true.
Song Ning wasn't sure if she had explained herself clearly. This was the first time she had called the police, and the first time she had hoped that they wouldn't have to send officers.
"Don't worry. How long have you been out of contact with him? Have you tried to contact his relatives or friends?" The operator sensed Song Ning's anxiety and tried to calm her down.
Song Ning suddenly remembered Jiang Xisheng. She hurriedly hung up the phone and called Jiang Xisheng instead.
Every beep on the phone felt like a torment to her heart, until Jiang Xisheng's voice came from the other end, sounding even more unfriendly to Song Ning than before: "Hello?"
"Is Shen Yuxiu with you?"
After speaking, Song Ning held her breath, waiting for the other party's reply.
"It's for you," Jiang Xisheng said impatiently.
Upon hearing the answer, Song Ning's body instantly collapsed. She gripped the phone tightly to her ear, letting out a soft "woo" before being pressed down by the other person.
During the phone call, Song Ning heard Shen Yuxiu's gentle remorse.
"Sorry, my phone broke and I couldn't tell you, I..."
The call was abruptly ended halfway through the conversation.
Shen Yuxiu put down his phone and glanced at the screen.
It looks like she's crying?
He wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with a tissue, looked at the shattered phone on the ground, then at Jiang Xisheng, and reprimanded him helplessly, but without really being angry: "You've caused this mess."
Jiang Xisheng leaned against the desk, wiping the blood from his knuckles: "I'm just trying to wake you up! This plan of yours is more than just scary, you're fucking playing with your life. Do you want to live too long? Rather than letting you fall into that pervert's hands, I'd rather kill you now."
Shen Yuxiu threw away the paper, squatted down and picked up the broken phone: "His target is not me. As long as you protect her, I will be fine."
"You've been so high-profile lately, dating her, taking her racing, kissing her at the track, and now living together. Are you trying to tell Fu Cong that you're the best knife to torment Song Ning, to make him focus his attention on you?" Jiang Xisheng angrily crumpled the paper into a ball and threw it into the trash can, thinking that Shen Yuxiu was out of his mind.
Despite his IQ of 187, he's just a figurehead.
“You broke my phone, so I’ll borrow this one for the night.” Shen Yuxiu held up Jiang Xisheng’s phone. “I’m going out to call her back. Calm down, we’ll talk later.”
"Screw your chat!" Jiang Xisheng cursed at Shen Yuxiu's retreating figure at the door. "No wonder that girl is so crazy, she learned it all from you."
