0072 New Residents
When Song Ning arrived at the parking garage downstairs in her apartment complex, she subconsciously glanced around the area. Ever since receiving the phone call at noon, her bad premonition had intensified.
Song Ning walked to the elevator and pressed the button for her floor.
A young man wearing a hat walked up from behind and stood next to Song Ning. Song Ning turned her head to look at the man.
The man raised his hand to pull down his baseball cap, covering his face and revealing only half of his sharply defined lower face.
Song Ning noticed the calluses on the man's index finger, the area between his thumb and forefinger, and the palm of his hand, and suddenly became alert.
She was very familiar with these cocoons; they were left from playing with guns and knives.
The elevator doors opened, and Song Ning entered. For safety reasons, she decided not to press her home floor directly, but to press several other floors instead.
The man followed him in and pressed the button for the top floor.
Song Ning cautiously retreated to the corner of the elevator.
There was only one household on the top floor, and Song Ning's car was parked in that household's parking space. She had not heard that anyone had moved into that household.
She carefully observed the man in front of her.
The man was strong and broad-shouldered. His casual clothes were stretched taut by his muscles, and there was a 2-centimeter scar on the back of his hand, which was probably an old injury.
Seemingly noticing Song Ning's gaze, the man put his hands in his pockets.
Song Ning turned her gaze away and looked at the numbers on the elevator screen.
Shen Yuxiu lived on the 27th floor, while Song Ning got off the elevator on the 25th floor ahead of him.
The man looked up at Song Ning, then immediately looked down again.
As soon as Song Ning went downstairs, she ran at full speed toward the emergency exit.
She just pressed 26. At her speed, if she runs at full speed to the 27th floor, she should make it in time.
When she arrived, the elevator had just reached the 27th floor, but it didn't stop; instead, it continued upwards.
Is he really a resident? She'd never seen him before.
Song Ning stood in front of the elevator for two or three minutes, calming her breathing before turning around and going into the room.
When she entered the room, Shen Yuxiu was sitting at the dining table with a notebook in front of him. Seeing her return, he got up and came over: "Where have you been so late?"
Song Ning liked that he was waiting for her at home, so without thinking, she pounced on Shen Yuxiu and kissed him: "I went to have dinner with someone."
Perhaps smelling the alcohol on her, Shen Yuxiu frowned slightly, picked her up and helped her sit on the low cabinet: "Who are you having dinner with?"
Anyway, even if she didn't say it, the people following her would tell him, so Song Ning simply confessed herself: "Cheng Yanchu."
Shen Yuxiu helped her change her boots into slippers. Hearing her answer, he looked up and stared directly into her eyes: "Why did you suddenly ask him to have dinner?"
His expression wasn't good, but it didn't seem like he was simply jealous.
Song Ning knew that it was just having dinner with someone, and it wouldn't make him so obviously jealous. She was just afraid that he would guess that her purpose in seeing Cheng Yanchu was not pure.
The reason she didn't hide her trip to the shooting range was twofold: firstly, she knew she couldn't shake off the people following her; and secondly, she wanted to leave herself a way out—in case she couldn't get a gun in the end, she would still have to find him.
But before that, she wanted to rely on herself; she didn't want to be a burden to him.
Song Ning smiled slightly at him, feigning a playful remark between lovers: "Is it wrong for friends to have dinner together?"
"Okay." Shen Yuxiu lowered his head and helped her put on the other shoe.
When he lowered his head, Song Ning could not see his expression, but could hear his cold voice, which seemed to indicate dissatisfaction.
Song Ning quickly changed the subject: "Do you know if anyone lives in that apartment on the top floor? I ran into a guy in the elevator today who seemed to be going to the top floor."
Shen Yuxiu changed his shoes and stood up: "It should be his nephew, who came to stay for a while."
So it turns out someone really lived there. Judging by their physique, it's not surprising that they handle guns and knives.
"Do you know who lives there? That guy's got a pretty good physique, like a fitness instructor, but he could also be a boxer, look at those muscles in his arms..."
"I don't know." Shen Yuxiu slapped her buttocks warningly, interrupting her.
Song Ning smiled flirtatiously and wrapped her legs around Shen Yuxiu's waist: "Should I find another place to park the car?"
Shen Yuxiu was unmoved, pushed her legs aside, walked back to the dining table and sat down: "No need, they didn't mention it, we'll talk about it when they do."
Song Ning sensed his underlying emotions, but pretended not to notice and deliberately teased him, "Are you jealous?"
“No.” Shen Yuxiu glanced at her. “Get down yourself.”
After he finished speaking, his long, slender fingers began to tap on the keyboard.
Song Ning watched as his well-defined fingers landed on the keyboard, typing a lot of words, but pressing the "Delete" key in the upper right corner even more often.
If this continues, the "Delete" key may become unusable.
Song Ning smiled slightly, jumped down, and sat down in the chair next to him, resting her elbows on the dining table: "I'm hungry."
There wasn't much Japanese food available to begin with, and after the meal, she went to the shooting range to practice shooting. She expended a lot of energy, so she naturally got hungry quickly.
Shen Yuxiu released the injured "Delete" key: "What do you want to eat?"
"What's in the house?" Song Ning asked, resting her chin on her hand and looking at his face.
Shen Yuxiu's facial injuries hadn't fully healed, and his tense expression only added a touch of battle-worn grimness to his otherwise stern appearance.
She was beautiful, but she would rather never see it.
Song Ning tenderly stroked the wound on his face, growing angrier the more she thought about it: "You bastard Jiang Xisheng, you shouldn't have only punched me once."
"He's almost recovered, it's alright. Besides, even if you hit him hard, Jiayi will come back to take care of him, he'd be more than happy to do that, do you want to grant him his wish?" Perhaps sensing Song Ning's genuine concern, Shen Yuxiu's expression softened.
Song Ning knew that he was deliberately helping Jiang Xisheng and didn't want her to cause trouble. Song Ning wouldn't offend Shen Jiayi, and she was even less willing to grant Jiang Xisheng's wish. She turned cold.
Shen Yuxiu chuckled softly, a genuine laugh from the bottom of his heart: "There's no food at home, let's go out to eat. What do you want to eat?"
They usually eat very little at home, so it's normal that they don't have much to eat.
Song Ning withdrew her hand: "Then let's go to that husband-and-wife snack shop."
The shop owner was very talkative; she always referred to Shen Yuxiu as "your boyfriend," which Shen Yuxiu liked.
"Let me get dressed."
Shen Yuxiu went inside to get his clothes and came out quickly.
Song Ning stood up lazily and followed him out the door: "I knew I shouldn't have gone upstairs."
Shen Yuxiu glanced at her, amused by her plaintive expression: "Want to be carried on your back or hugged?"
“Carry me on your back. It’s inconvenient to walk while I’m carrying you.” Song Ning hugged him from behind.
"Come on up." Shen Yuxiu pressed the elevator button and carried Song Ning, who was clinging to him, on his back.
After succeeding, Song Ning thoughtfully helped Shen Yuxiu apply a layer of pressure, then rested her head on her hand and asked, "Shen Yuxiu, do you remember when you first carried me on your back?"
Shen Yuxiu's eyes warmed: "I remember."
