0076 The lipstick is worn out

When Song Ning pulled her 14-inch suitcase into the first-class cabin, Cheng Yanchu was already seated in his seat.

Song Ning put down her luggage and sat down in the private booth.

When the flight attendant came over to ask about drinks, Song Ning ordered a special drink and then bent down to change her shoes.

Cheng Yanchu pulled open the partition and saw the hickeys on her neck and the lipstick on her lips. He remembered calling her that morning and Shen Yuxiu was the one who answered the phone, and he felt a little uncomfortable.

He pulled the partition back up and put on his eye mask, pretending to sleep.

After changing her shoes, Song Ning accepted the drink offered by the flight attendant. Seeing that Cheng Yanchu had no intention of chatting, she didn't bother to speak either. She found a movie, put on her headphones, and watched it quietly.

A few minutes into the movie, Cheng Yanchu suddenly opened the partition and pointed to his ear with his finger.

Song Ning took off her headphones: "What's up?"

Your lipstick is smudged.

Song Ning took out a mirror from her makeup remover bag on the seat.

There was a smear of red on the corner of her mouth.

She knew exactly how it was done, but she was rushing to catch her flight and thought it was all cleaned up.

Song Ning calmly thanked him, picked up her makeup remover bag, and went to the bathroom to take care of herself.

After finishing her business, she came out of the restroom and, as she passed a seat, noticed the man in the seat lower his blindfold.

Song Ning felt this movement was familiar.

Song Ning wasn't the type of person who would deliberately try to remember people's faces. Having seen Shen Yuxiu's face so often, she found it difficult to remember other people's faces.

She mostly remembers people's features, and she can immediately recall where she has seen this person before.

Song Ning paused for only a second before returning to her seat.

Upon seeing her return, Cheng Yanchu said coldly, "He's so old, and he's trying to pull these kinds of tricks. I find it childish."

Song Ning scoffed: "Do you think he's the same age as you? He wouldn't do that just because he's going back with you. Besides, he's only 27, not old."

Cheng Yanchu scoffed, but didn't dwell on the age difference: "How do you know he won't? No man can calmly accept the woman he likes leaving him to go out alone with another man."

Song Ning lowered her eyelids and covered her legs with a blanket: "Yes, but he did it for something else."

After the plane took off, Cheng Yanchu spoke again, as the airplane announcement reminded him: "You know him that well?"

The passengers served appetizers, which Song Ning accepted: "Not 100%, but about 70% or 80%."

If you can understand a person 70%, that's already a lot.

Cheng Yanchu's voice carried a hint of sarcasm: "You're quite confident. He probably wouldn't even dare to say that himself."

Song Ning had already been in a bad mood these past two days, and after being mocked like this, she immediately retorted sarcastically: "What do you know? You haven't even found someone who lets you truly be yourself, so of course you don't know what kind of person you are."

Cheng Yanchu felt incredibly pathetic; he actually preferred her current glaring and blustering demeanor to her earlier indifferent attitude.

He asked, a half-smile playing on his lips, "How do you know I didn't?"

His words were ambiguous, and Song Ning didn't want to respond. She cut a piece of steak and asked, "Have you contacted the person yet?"

Cheng Yanchu realized he was flirting with her and changed his attitude: "3 pm."

Song Ning softened her tone: "Whether it works out or not, thank you for this."

Cheng Yanchu glanced at her and then pulled the partition back up.

Song Ning didn't pay much attention to Cheng Yanchu's unpredictable mood. They hadn't been in contact for a long time since the last time at the bar. He was willing to help her, so she wouldn't be so tactless as to provoke him at every turn.

She was more concerned about Shen Yuxiu's behavior over the past two days.

He used to get angry and then calm down quickly, but now it's been two days and he shows no signs of calming down. If it weren't for his unusual behavior, she wouldn't even know he was angry.

Even though she's on her period these past two days, it hasn't stopped him from flirting with her at all.

The night before last, we were watching a movie at home and things were going well when somehow we started rolling around on the sofa. Although we didn't end up having sex, it was more unbearable than if we had.

Last night and this morning, she was weak-willed in front of him, and although she resisted him verbally, her body succumbed to him faster than anyone else.

Even at the airport just now, the two kissed for a long time in the car before separating.

Before going through security, Shen Yuxiu grabbed Song Ning's wrist and asked her to confirm, "Are you sure you don't need me to go with you?"

Song Ning felt that Shen Yuxiu was restraining the strength in his hands; otherwise, he might have broken her hand, but she still did not agree.

He released her, a smile masking his pent-up anger: "Go inside."

After Song Ning finished going through security, he turned around and found that Song Ning had already left.

This would have been impossible in the past.

Yes, I get jealous.

But the reason he's been acting strangely these past few days is more because she's seeking help from others than from him.

He was telling her that he was her boyfriend, so that she could contact him if she needed anything.

She knew, just as he knew her, she understood him, but she still rejected him.

She was afraid—afraid that he wouldn't agree, afraid of implicating him, and even more afraid that he might do something she couldn't imagine to protect her.

Around 12 noon, the plane arrived in South Sudan, where their driver came to pick them up.

Cheng Yanchu first saw Song Ning into the car, and then asked his own driver to fetch the car.

Cheng Yanchu, holding onto the car door, asked, "I'll pick you up from the Shen family at 2 PM?"

Song Ning nodded: "No need to drive up, I'll meet you at the foot of the mountain."

Cheng Yanchu scoffed, "You're overthinking it. I never intended to drive up there anyway."

Song Ning was too lazy to argue with him: "Close the door. How am I supposed to leave if you don't close the door?"

Cheng Yanchu was speechless: "Can't you at least be polite and wait for my car to arrive before you leave?"

Just then, a dark green Bentley sped by and stopped in front of the car.

Song Ning pointed: "Didn't they arrive?"

"You really know how to avoid suspicion, you won't even have a meal with me." Cheng Yanchu slammed the door shut and got into his car.

The driver turned his head and said, "Why didn't you tell him that Dean Su was waiting for you to have dinner at home, which is why you refused?"

Song Ning watched the car in front drive away: "There's nothing to explain. Let's go back."

Su Qingru only has time for lunch, so there's no need for her to waste the time she specially made for him.

The two cars drove out of the garage one after the other, traveled together for a while, and then drove away in opposite directions at an intersection.

When Song Ning arrived, Su Qingru was on the phone talking about work. When she saw Song Ning, she smiled, pointed to the dining table, and told Song Ning to eat first.

Song Ning walked to the sofa, sat down, and sent a message to Shen Yuxiu: Arrived.

Shen Yuxiu: Hmm, is Mom home?

Song Ning: I'm waiting for her to have dinner.

Knowing roughly how busy Su Qingru had been since taking over her hospital, Shen Yuxiu replied: "Eat first if you're hungry."

Song Ning and Shen Yuxiu chatted about trivial matters.

Ten minutes later, Su Qingru ended the call: "Are you hungry? Let's go eat."

Song Ning replied to Shen Yuxiu's last sentence and walked towards the restaurant with Su Qingru.

The cook brought out the food, and Su Qingru gave her own food to Song Ning first: "Why didn't Yuxiu come back with you this time? Did you have a fight?"

Song Ning pretended nothing was wrong: "No, I just wanted to come back by myself."

Su Qingru understood immediately: "That means you have something on your mind and don't want him to know."

Song Ning took a bite of food and then secretly glanced at Su Qingru.

Su Qingru picked up a piece of food, her expression magnanimous: "Don't worry, I won't ask. You two should handle your own affairs. But don't argue for too long, I feel sorry for my son's bad temper, I'm afraid he'll get bored."

Song Ning thought of the saying "No one knows a son better than his mother," smiled brightly, and said with clear eyes, "He doesn't have a bad temper."

“My daughter has such a beautiful smile. At her age, she should smile more.” Su Qingru then brought up Song Ning’s school, “How is Professor Zhang doing lately? Still the same?”

Song Ning teased, "Yeah, that old professor is just like you said, very narcissistic."

“My original words were that he shouldn’t be too humble because of his academic standing. If he’s too humble, how are others supposed to behave? You can completely change the meaning of anything you say. After all, he’s your mother’s professor, and you should respect him.” Su Qingru shook her head with a smile, as if she couldn’t do anything about it.

Song Ning said confidently, "I respect him. I have never skipped his class."

You were only late once, and it was your son's fault.

"That's good. Your mother skipped one of your father's classes to go on a date with him, and that's how he got his eye on her. But since your mother got excellent grades, he let her go."

Song Ning listened attentively: "This is the first time I've heard about my mother's life when she was young."

Su Qingru smiled slightly: "There will be plenty of time in the future. I will tell you slowly. You are like her, but she is more gentle and you are more flamboyant. You are both strong and brave at heart."

Song Ning's eyes gleamed with interest: "Could you tell me more? I want to hear it."

Su Qingru recalled several interesting incidents and talked about them with great relish.

Song Ning's eyes curved upwards from time to time, her brown pupils gleaming in the sunlight.

After the meal, Su Qingru needed to return to the hospital.

As Song Ning saw Su Qingru off at the door and they crossed the courtyard, she casually asked, "Mom, is there a patient named Ding Chengcheng at your hospital?"

“Yes, he has already had surgery and been discharged.” Su Qingru looked at her. “Yu Xiu helped him transfer to another hospital. Actually, his original doctor was also very good, so there was no need to specifically transfer him to our hospital. You know him too?”

Song Ning asked, "I don't know him, I'm just asking on behalf of Shen Yuxiu."

Su Qingru was slightly surprised. Her son knew about this, but she just smiled and didn't expose him.

These two have never wanted to talk to me about anything since they were little, and now that they're older, they're even less willing to.
