Listening to Yin Han's words and seeing his tears, Nan Sheng felt a pang of heartache for him for the first time.
Suddenly she realized that all this time, she had been angry and upset, but Yin Han had been upset even more.
This was the first time she had ever seen him cry.
"Of course I know you didn't take the necklace." Otherwise, she wouldn't have stepped forward.
Although she hadn't initially intended to step forward, she noticed that when Yin Han discovered the necklace on him, he seemed unwilling to explain, as if he was letting the person in front of him do whatever he wanted.
“If I don’t step forward and don’t speak up, will you just admit that Luckly was your fault, like before?” Nan Sheng asked directly, clearly determined to make everything clear.
Yin Han was taken aback. Did she mean that she knew Lcukly wasn't harmed by him?
“No, I’m just really sad. Before, you would always be the first to stand up for me whenever I had any problems. But tonight, I waited for a long time, and I thought you would never talk to me again. I was thinking that if you don’t care anymore, then it’s meaningless for me to do anything. I don’t want to.”
Yin Han suppressed his emotions for so long and spoke to her word by word.
“Your life isn’t just about me; you’re living for yourself.”
Nan Sheng was shocked to find that he had been harboring such thoughts all along, and at the same time, she understood why he liked her.
“But if you’re not in my life, if you ignore me, I feel like I don’t want a life that has no meaning,” Yin Han said bluntly.
All that's left is to say "I like you".
Nan Sheng looked at the boy who was half-squatting in front of her. His face vaguely overlapped with the one she had met the night before. She stretched out her fair fingertips and gently wiped away his hot tears that were about to fall.
"So, are you going to tell me the truth? Or are you going to keep making me angry?" Nan Sheng cupped his cheeks in her hands and asked seriously.
Yin Han blinked her sore eyes, her thick, long eyelashes wet with tears, looking pitiful as if she was about to be abandoned. She shook her head: "I don't want to make you angry, I don't want you to hate me."
That feeling is no different from having your heart scraped with a knife.
"If you don't want to make me angry or be hated by me, why don't you tell the truth?" After wiping away his tears, Nan Sheng propped herself up on the sofa with one hand and gently pinched his cheek.
Yin Han sniffed, lowered his head, and didn't know what to say.
His slender fingertips continued to caress her wrist.
"Hmm?" Nan Sheng spoke again.
"You don't like me." Yin Han finally managed to say this after holding it in for a long time. He could understand that it was a mutual affection, but he still felt extremely wronged.
“Luckly was ruined by Lu Zhicheng. He knows I like you, and he wants me to admit it. I don’t want you to know I like you, and I don’t want Nan’s parents to know either, because I’m afraid they’ll think I’m ungrateful, and I don’t want to see any look of disgust in your eyes.”
"He might have arranged the necklace incident tonight as well. I didn't dare to say it because I was afraid that you would care about Lu Zhicheng and would ignore me because of him."
That time, when he couldn't hold back, the disgust in her eyes really pierced his heart.
"Sheng Sheng, I dare not... I know you don't like me, and I don't ask you to like me. Just don't hate me, and don't abandon me."
This is what Yin Han fears most.
Upon hearing Yin Han's deepest, most genuine thoughts, Nan Sheng realized that she hadn't truly entered Yin Han's heart to understand his world.
When she heard that Lu Zhicheng was responsible for Luckly's death, she wasn't shocked at all. To be honest, she hadn't thought it was Lu Zhicheng who did it, since he wasn't there at the time, but she also didn't think it was Yin Han.
Now that she knows what Lu Zhicheng did, she used to consider him an ordinary friend, but now he's nothing to her anymore. But this score will have to be settled sooner or later.
Now, there are more important things to do.
Nan Sheng took a deep breath: "When did I ever say I didn't want you?"
Yin Han was startled, raised her head and looked at Nan Sheng with teary eyes, pursing her lips without saying a word.
"Besides, my parents won't think you're bad, and they certainly won't think you're ungrateful." She knew how much her parents liked Yin Han; otherwise, they wouldn't have allowed it after she brought Yin Han home that time.
"As for you liking me, didn't I find out a while ago? I didn't say 'I don't want you' to myself, but the things I said in anger were really hurtful, so I just apologized." Nan Sheng explained to Yin Han one by one.
Indeed, when she learned that Yin Han would have a reaction to her, she couldn't accept it at first. Although the way the two of them interacted before was very intimate, she felt it was normal.
The sudden change, and the fact that Nan Sheng had never experienced anything like it before, made her somewhat resistant to it. But during this time, she calmed down and thought a lot, and also searched for a lot of information online.
Gradually, she stopped having any obvious aversion to it; instead, she began to think that it was perfectly normal.
Liking is not just psychological liking. While physiological liking is important, it is uncontrollable.
When Yin Han heard Nan Sheng apologize, he subconsciously shook his head and looked at her nervously and seriously: "Sheng Sheng, do you forgive me now?"
Nan Sheng didn't answer immediately, but instead pulled Yin Han up. At first, Yin Han was unwilling to get up, but under Nan Sheng's forceful gaze, he sat down next to her, his eyes following her intently.
I want to get an answer.
Nan Sheng's slightly reddened eyes darted around as she asked a question unrelated to the present: "Yin Han, am I seventeen years old now?"
Yin Han frowned slightly, not understanding why she asked that. Wasn't it her birthday just tonight?
"Hmm, what's wrong?"
"Then let's wait another year. I'll be eighteen then, and we'll have graduated. If you still like me then, just confess to me properly, and I'll say yes, okay?"
Nan Sheng turned around, sat cross-legged on the sofa, and sat facing Yin Han.
With just one sentence, Yin Han was completely stunned.
He had never thought about this problem; just a second ago, all he could think about was that Sheng Sheng would forgive him.
What do you mean?
"Sheng Sheng... does it mean what I...I think it means?"
"If I confess my feelings to you in the future, will you say yes?"
"......."
Yin Han excitedly grasped Nan Sheng's shoulders, but remained rational and did not squeeze her hard.
Nan Sheng felt a little embarrassed by his bright red, amused eyes, and said haughtily, "Why are you allowed to like me, but I'm not allowed to like you?"
