After a long silence, Nan Sheng finally spoke: "Yin Han, where's my birthday present?"
She stretched out her hands; she had received gifts from everyone that evening, except for his.
Upon hearing this, Yin Han immediately looked up, her heart pounding with excitement, and stammered, "Yes! Yes, I have a birthday present for you! Wait a moment, I'll go get it right now, it'll be quick..."
He had just thought she still wasn't going to talk to him, and was planning to find another opportunity to give it to her tomorrow or some other time, since she hadn't accepted her birthday present last year.
"Hey, wait a minute." Nan Sheng quickly called out to Yin Han, who was about to return to his room.
"What's wrong?"
"I'm thirsty. Could you bring me a glass of water to my room later? I have something to tell you." Nan Sheng felt that if she didn't say anything soon, someone would be so aggrieved.
"Okay! I'll be right there. You go in and sit down first, I'll be right there." Yin Han was indeed surprised, but he was mostly happy. He jumped up and down and ran downstairs to get water. He looked like a spirited young man.
Seeing this, Nan Sheng's lips curled into a long-lost smile, but Yin Han didn't see it.
Then she went into the room and sat on the sofa at the foot of the bed to wait for Yin Han. She figured he would have a hard time sleeping tonight, so she might as well take this opportunity to make things clear with him.
Yin Han was indeed quick; he went downstairs to get water and pick up a gift, and within five minutes, there was a knock on the door.
"I'm on the sofa," Nan Sheng replied.
Yin Han pushed open the door and looked at the familiar scene inside the room. He couldn't help but feel a little moved. It had been a long time since he had been inside.
Ever since Sheng Sheng got angry.
Yin Han held a glass of water in one hand and pushed a small black cart with several gift boxes in the other.
Nan Sheng immediately stood up, without even putting on her shoes, and ran over to take the water glass from Yin Han's hand: "Why is it warm?"
She muttered to herself as she honestly drank it down.
"It's just lukewarm. Your period is coming soon, isn't it? It's not good to drink cold things." Yin Han answered subconsciously, then quickly walked to the sofa where Nan Sheng had just been sitting, picked up her slippers, and squatted down in front of her.
"The floor is cold, you need to wear shoes." Yin Han said, symbolically touching her calf: "Lift your foot, I'll put your shoes on for you, okay?"
Nan Sheng didn't make a move for a long time, so Yin Han couldn't help but look up, just as she was looking down at him.
Their eyes met, and Yin Han assumed she didn't want him to wear them or touch them, so he simply placed the shoes in front of her feet: "You can put them on yourself."
Yin Han's fingers tightened slightly, and he couldn't help but feel disappointed. When would he and Sheng Sheng be able to go back to how they were before?
Nan Sheng quickly finished the water in her cup, put on her shoes, and casually put the cup in the stroller. The next second, she wrapped her arms around Yin Han's waist and hugged him.
The sudden hug caught Yin Han off guard, and her body stiffened instantly.
Yin Han's heart pounded violently, as if it were about to leap out of his chest. For a moment, he could only stand there, stunned and at a loss.
Perhaps it was the warmth of her embrace that he cherished so much, but he tremblingly reached out his hands, wanting to return her hug, yet he dared not.
Sheng Sheng has been angry for so long that he now finds this reality somewhat unrealistic.
"Sheng Sheng, I...can I hug you?"
Nan Sheng didn't speak, but instead buried her face in his chest and hugged him even tighter: "I've already hugged you, whether you want to hug me or not is up to you."
Before he finished speaking, Yin Han hugged him back without any hesitation: "Yes! I want to hug you, I want to hug you too."
He had thought about it for a long time and tried his best to control his emotions.
"How did you know my period was coming soon?" For Nan Sheng, this hug seemed to have been too long ago, and she wanted to hug her for a little longer.
"I remember, although it was irregular at times, there were always a few days when Aunt Nan wouldn't let you touch cold water." Her mood would also turn bad during those days, and she would become even colder towards him.
“Yin Han”.
"Hmm? I'm here."
"Yin Han," Nan Sheng called again.
"Yes, I'm here. What's up?" Yin Han cherished the hug she was receiving.
Nan Sheng leaned against his chest, inhaling his unique scent—a faint sandalwood fragrance, but upon closer inspection, there was also the scent of the same shower gel she wore. In short, it felt like she hadn't smelled it in a long time, and at this moment, she was incredibly attached to it.
“I’m sorry…” Nan Sheng apologized first.
Yin Han was taken aback and suddenly let go of her, even though he was very reluctant to part with her embrace.
"Why are you apologizing to me? It's my fault for making you angry." Even though Nan Sheng had been angry for so long, Yin Han never blamed her. He was only angry with himself. Even though he couldn't coax her, he didn't think she was too delicate. He just felt that he hadn't done a good job of coaxing her.
Nan Sheng looked up at him. Yin Han, afraid that she was uncomfortable, pulled her to sit on the sofa, while he knelt on one knee in front of her: "Talk to me like this, you don't need to look up at me."
Yin Han was so attentive to Nan Sheng that he was almost meticulous in every aspect.
"Over the past year, I've said a lot of hurtful things to you, and I've been angry with you for a long time. I've also been very immature," Nan Sheng admitted, explaining her mistakes bit by bit.
I'm also glad that she walked up to him tonight and didn't do anything irreversible.
Yin Han's eyes were bloodshot, and tears slowly welled up. She shook her head and said, "No, it's nothing. I don't care. It's enough that you're willing to talk to me."
More than her anger, Yin Han was afraid that she would ignore him and abandon him.
He continued, "Sheng Sheng, I'm just afraid you'll ignore me. I can coax you when you're angry, I can keep coaxing you, but I don't want you to ignore me. I'm also very clumsy, I haven't been able to coax you well for so long, I've tried many ways but none of them are to your liking."
Yin Han carefully took Nan Sheng's hand, afraid that she would shake it off in disgust at any moment.
But tonight she gave him so many surprises that he couldn't help but wonder if she was no longer angry, and if he could take things further.
It made him want to hope, or rather, to verify, that she was really willing to pay attention to him.
Fortunately, she didn't shake him off.
"I didn't steal the necklace tonight, and I don't know why it was in my pocket." Although Yin Han wanted to say it was related to Lu Zhicheng, he didn't dare. He wasn't sure what Nan Sheng was thinking, and he didn't dare to make a rash decision.
"When I found out you noticed the necklace was on me, I was filled with fear. You were already ignoring me and still angry with me. What if you think I stole something? Would your cold gaze turn into disgust?"
Sheng Sheng, I'm afraid you won't want me anymore, afraid you won't want me anymore, where should I go?
Yin Han's eyes welled up with tears, which then rolled down her cheeks after she finished speaking.
