Chapter Ten: A Turnaround
Sure enough, Su Yi had barely stepped out of the conference room when he was "invited" to the president's office by Lu Ming's secretary. A large bowl of steaming ginger tea and several desserts were already laid out on the desk. He forced himself to sit down in the president's seat, hoping the secretary would leave quickly so he wouldn't feel so awkward.
“Mr. Su, Mr. Lu requests that you not leave this office before his arrival. There is a resting area and a change of clothes in the back room. If you need anything else, you can press the bell on the desk to let me know.”
"……OK."
Lu Ming is always so considerate and thoughtful, making her impeccable.
Su Yi was startled awake in the soft leather chair at a little past one in the afternoon. Lu Ming was trying to lift him off the chair, while his suit jacket had long since dried.
"You don't even know how to change your clothes, and you don't even drink ginger tea. Come on, Su Yi, tell me what you're trying to do, huh?" Lu Ming sat halfway on the desk. This posture, paired with his hand-tailored high-end suit, accentuated his striking features, and his aura was quite imposing.
"Lei Li... he bullied me." These six words came out of Su Yi's mouth pitifully, and it felt kind of funny.
Lu Ming almost lost her composure and banged on the table: "Don't I know these things myself? I'm asking you, why are you at the company?"
"Lu Ming... just let me do it! Others have the chance to compete for the position. As a family member, I don't even have priority, let alone a chance!"
Lu Ming was genuinely amused and exasperated: "How about I open an office for you at the headquarters in Suijiang and put up a sign that says 'President's Wife'?" Su Yi remained silent, staring at Lu Ming with innocent eyes, which made him feel utterly defeated, and he temporarily gave up on bringing up the matter.
What time is your flight?
"11 PM..."
"Reschedule for the 5 PM shift and come back with me."
Su Yi seemed to still want to struggle: "But I can't finish my business!"
As Lu Ming spoke, she helped him take off his still-damp coat and turned up the air conditioning a few degrees: "My man, going to do things for him? I'm afraid he'll die young. You don't need to worry about it, I have my own arrangements."
"Good morning, Captain!" Yi Chu had just stepped into the police station when he bumped into his squad leader and saluted.
"Welcome back." Jiang Zhimu, holding a large stack of documents, smiled when he saw him return. "Go back and organize your things, see if there's anything else you need to report to logistics. Call Qin Xichao to the conference room for a meeting in half an hour."
"Yes, Captain Jiang."
Meeting room
In the corner of a large long table, three people huddled together for a meeting. Jiang Zhimu gave him a general overview of the current situation: "The Lu family's power and the interests involved are far greater than we imagined. The main operation is being handled by a special task force drawn from the anti-drug squad and the criminal investigation team. The armed police and other departments can also be mobilized at any time if needed. The bureau will do its utmost to ensure the smooth operation. Xichao, you can tell us about the current operational arrangements."
"Okay." Qin Xichao nodded and took over the conversation. He was the deputy team leader working with Jiang Zhimu. "Team Leader Jiang and Captain Wang Canran of the Narcotics Enforcement Team are in charge of command. Chen Chen is in charge of information equipment and network tracking. Jin Ming is in charge of transportation. Zhou Musen is in charge of contacting. If needed, Zhao Yi will be in charge of the forensic department... They are all old acquaintances of yours. Their specific responsibilities have not changed much. The main person in charge is you, Xiao Chu."
He continued with the arrangements: "You'll be in charge of the contact. I think we don't need to go to the police station again until we receive further instructions, so as not to alert them. Just stay at school as usual and do what you're supposed to do. Another thing we need to pay special attention to is that we suspect Xiao Yan, a student at your school, that he has shady dealings..."
Yi Chu was taken aback. He had some guesses, but as a teacher, it was still hard to hear others say such things: "He's not my student, but he's always been listening to my lectures, even more attentively than some students in the same major. ... About a week ago, he confessed his feelings to me. I don't know if he was serious or if he had ulterior motives, but I rejected him. However, he didn't show any extreme reaction."
“Hmm.” Jiang Zhimu pondered for a moment, “We don’t want to take immediate action against him to avoid causing any more trouble. Let’s observe him a little longer; perhaps we can gain some unexpected insights.”
“Okay, I respect all decisions made by the organization.” This was exactly what Yi Chu was thinking.
"I won't go into the details; you should know more about it than I do," Qin Xichao said. "Take care of yourself; your safety is very important."
"good."
A week later, at the bar.
Yi Chu arrived at the bar with a nonchalant air, her collar half-open as she leaned against the bar, drinking. Her face was slightly flushed, her eyes somewhat glazed, and she occasionally threw a few flirtatious glances at the crowd. She searched for a while, but couldn't find any familiar faces.
About an hour later, he was instructed to prepare to leave. Just as he was about to get up and leave the bar, a large man pushed him back down.
Yi Chu had maintained a high level of physical training for many years, so he was by no means thin, but compared to the burly man in front of him, whose pectoral muscles seemed to be touching his face and who was at least 1.9 meters tall, he really looked "frail". He sat back down as expected, trying to appear calm, and asked the other man with a smile what was wrong.
"Play with me all night, Professor, hmm?" The burly man pinched his cheek, his hand sliding down his neck and into his collar, groping restlessly. Publicly, Chu Chu was in no mood for such things, and privately, he found it incredibly difficult to react to a muscular man like this.
But his cryptic "professor" forced Yi Chu to change her mind, so she pretended to be impatient and smiled at him.
"Damn, that's exciting..." The big man whispered something offensive in his ear. Yi Chu pretended it was just a dog barking and let him lead him by the arm.
Just as he was about to enter the elevator, he suddenly heard a familiar voice behind him say a line with a gangster flair. Before he could react, the burly man next to him was somehow shoved against the wall, his back hitting the wall with a dull thud: "Get lost, you dare touch my man?"
"Mr. Gu! I'm so sorry, Mr. Gu, I didn't know! I knew he was your man, how could I dare to touch him?" The burly man begged for mercy repeatedly and ran away in a panic.
"Let's go!" Gu Bai'an put his arm around him and got into the elevator, muttering something in his ear, "You've twisted your back just walking around like that."
"Get lost!" Despite knowing he was in the wrong for being rash, Yi Chu still rebuked him for his vulgar words, "Where did you learn such language? Don't say it in front of me!"
If it were any other day, even knowing he wasn't really angry, Gu Bai'an would have tried to coax him gently. But today was clearly unusual. He simply held her even tighter, as if trying to imprison her in his arms.
"I haven't settled the score with you yet, just wait!"
