"It's hot, I have no appetite."
Autumn has arrived, but the weather remains unbearably hot.
"There's chilled mung bean soup in the kitchen, but Sister Ye needs to nurse the little master, so she can't eat anything cold," Pear said regretfully.
Upon hearing about the chilled mung bean soup, Ye Yunniang unconsciously swallowed; it was her favorite drink.
“The main kitchen is cooking red bean soup. Shall I go and get a bowl of non-chilled red bean soup?” Pear suggested.
"Wouldn't that be troublesome?" Ye Yunniang was somewhat tempted.
"Give the kitchen a few coins," Li'er told Ye Yunniang. The head kitchen was in charge of all the food in the manor. There were set standards for everyone, from masters to servants. If someone wanted something else, they could pay the head kitchen to prepare it separately.
"Sister, look, this is pear candy that I asked the kitchen to make." Pear opened her purse, inside which were pear candy wrapped in oil paper.
"Sister had a bit of a cough yesterday, have a piece." Pear said, handing half of the pear candy from her purse to Ye Yunniang.
Ye Yunniang's throat had been a little dry these past two days, so she took the piece and put it in her mouth.
The subtle sweetness of pear made my throat feel much better.
Ye Yunniang couldn't accept Li'er's pear candy for nothing, so she opened the drawer and grabbed a string of copper coins for Li'er.
"I treated you to this, sister. How could I accept your money?" Pear declined.
"Pear, go buy a few more pears and make some more pear candy so we can eat together," Ye Yunniang said, and Pear accepted the copper coins.
"Sister, you rest first. I'll go to the main kitchen." Pear tidied up the dishes and left.
Ye Yunniang ate the pear candy and stopped thinking about it.
We'll see when things get to that point.
After drinking the warm red bean soup, Ye Yunniang went to Fanghua Courtyard.
She's on duty for the second half of the night tonight.
As Jiang Tingjun grew older, Madam Jiang Si felt it was time to cultivate a bond with her son, so every morning she would have someone carry him over and play with him for a while.
Chunyao wanted to go home, and Shiliu wanted to go to another place, so neither of them wanted to compete for the opportunity.
Ding Fang intended to become the wet nurse in the Sixth Young Master's household. She was given every opportunity to perform.
Ye Yunniang didn't want to show her face in front of her master anymore, so she, Chunyao, and Shiliu took turns working afternoons and nights.
Ding Fang is basically there in the morning.
Ye Yunniang is responsible for keeping watch for the first half of the night today.
After that incident, no matter how hot it was, Ye Yunniang dared not open the window.
She played with Jiang Tingjun and coaxed him to sleep. Ye Yunniang also took the opportunity to doze off herself.
Unbeknownst to Ye Yunniang, who was fast asleep, the window was slightly ajar, and someone was standing at the window quietly watching her sleeping face.
Ye Yunniang seemed to sense something, turned over uncomfortably, and continued to sleep against the bed.
Ye Yunniang opened her eyes when Jiang Tingjun groaned.
"Young master is awake." Ye Yunniang reached out and picked him up.
Jiang Tingjun was hungry. Before Ye Yunniang could even tell him what to do, he reached out and started pulling at his clothes. He wanted to eat.
Ye Yunniang followed his movements, pulling open her clothes to make it easier for him.
Jiang Tingjun swallowed hard, some of the liquid dribbling from the corners of his mouth and even staining Ye Yunniang's clothes.
As Ye Yunniang ate nourishing and lactation-promoting soup every day, her milk production increased.
Jiang Tingjun finished one side of his drink, and that was about it. He took a few more sips on the other side and then stopped.
Ye Yunniang was in great discomfort due to breast engorgement.
Jiang Tingjun was unwilling to eat more and opened his mouth to take a bite.
"Ouch, you little rascal." Ye Yunniang pulled the item out of his mouth, enduring the pain as she dressed.
She picked Jiang Tingjun up and gently patted her back, humming the lullaby she used to sing to Pan'er at home.
Only at night, when no one else was around, did Ye Yunniang dare to hum these tunes.
Jiang Tingjun seemed to really enjoy listening to folk songs, listening with his eyes closed.
He was a little unhappy when Ye Yunniang stopped humming.
Ye Yunniang continued humming, lulling Jiang Tingjun to sleep, then laid him down again and covered him up.
Normally, Jiang Tingjun would sleep until dawn.
Ye Yunniang yawned, blew out the candle on the table, leaving only one.
Lie down and rest on the bedding laid out at the foot of the bed.
Unaware that someone had pushed open the door and walked in, Ye Yunniang was fast asleep.
Jiang Mingzhe once again took the back path to see Jiang Mingrui.
After their discussion, Jiang Mingzhe left through a side path and stopped at the window of the courtyard.
The window was closed, but not jammed from the inside; it could be opened with a gentle pull.
Jiang Mingzhe stood by the window, the candlelight illuminating everything in the room.
Ye Yunniang changed Jiang Tingjun's diaper, fed him, and hummed a song.
Jiang Mingzhe was different in one way; he was precocious from birth. He knew that Old Madam Jiang had suffered greatly during his difficult delivery and therefore disliked him.
After Jiang Mingzhe was born, he was handed over to a wet nurse for care. She wouldn't see him for a month at a time.
The master didn't favor his son, so naturally the servants didn't put in much effort either. The wet nurse who cared for him let him cry at night, without changing his diapers or feeding him promptly.
Jiang Mingzhe could only endure the dampness and stench when he urinated or defecated, and could only feel refreshed when it was dawn.
Jiang Mingzhe was able to speak, and his first words were to send the wet nurse away.
Therefore, Madam Jiang felt that he was heartless and disliked him even more.
Jiang Mingzhe envied his nephew for having a wet nurse who treated him with utmost care.
Ye Yunniang was asleep. Jiang Mingzhe opened the window and entered the room, coming to the bedside and looking at the curled-up person.
Sitting next to Ye Yunniang, he reached out and touched her face; it was as smooth and delicate as he had imagined.
Ye Yunniang waved her hand uncomfortably and went back to sleep.
***
The sound outside made Ye Yunniang open her eyes and quickly sit up.
Jiang Tingjun is still asleep.
He patted his chest, amazed at how soundly he had slept, and then tucked his bedding away and placed it aside.
Ding Fang entered the house, and after the handover was completed, Ye Yunniang returned to Zhiyuxuan.
Pear brought breakfast.
After Ye Yunniang finished eating and changed her clothes, she discovered large milk stains on her undershirt, indicating that milk had leaked out.
After washing the clothes, Ye Yunniang went back to her room to sleep.
At noon, Pear woke Ye Yunniang up for lunch.
In the afternoon, I did embroidery with Shiliu in the courtyard.
Ye Yunniang mainly learned the Qi-needle technique from the embroiderers. Shiliu, on the other hand, was skilled in Suzhou embroidery, creating lifelike patterns that seemed to come alive as she moved.
Seeing that Ye Yunniang liked it, Shi Liu didn't hide it. He told her the techniques and guided her in embroidery.
Ye Yunniang was grateful and wanted to become Shiliu's apprentice, but Shiliu did not accept apprentices. She would only offer guidance; the actual work was up to Ye Yunniang.
Ye Yunniang learned quickly and embroidered a kitten as a gift for Shiliu.
Having spent a lot of time together, Ye Yunniang knew that Shiliu loved cats. However, she would get rashes whenever she touched a cat, so she couldn't keep one.
Having received the handkerchief from the kitten playing with its ball, Shiliu became even more attentive to Ye Yunniang's guidance.
Ding Fang saw that Ye Yunniang was favored by Chunyao and Shiliu, and felt even more mocking. What was the point of currying favor with two wet nurses who were about to leave?
Thinking of the Fourth Madam's satisfaction with her care of the Sixth Young Master and the rewards she received, Ding Fang felt that her and her sister's plan was about to succeed.
Ye Yunniang was unaware of Ding Fang's thoughts and continued living her life as usual.
After August, Chunyao and Shiliu left one after the other.
As soon as the two left, Ding Fang couldn't wait to move into the house where Shi Liu lived.
Shiliu's house is more sunny and has more spacious rooms.
Ye Yunniang was used to living there and didn't move.
