Chapter 108 Cooking!

"You cook?" Ye Yunniang looked at Li Pan in surprise. "When did you learn to cook?"

“We’re learning from Aunt Mai Miao today,” Li Pan replied.

"Mother, just sit down and rest. We'll cook." Li An took Ye Yunniang's hand and led her to a small stool, letting her sit down and rest.

Li Pan and Li An washed and chopped vegetables, and started a fire to cook.

Several times, Ye Yunniang tried to stand up and intervene, but Li Ping stopped her each time.

Li Pan and Li An teamed up to make vegetable noodles and a cold dish of wood ear mushrooms.

The noodles were a little undercooked and a little salty. The vegetables were a little bitter, but Ye Yunniang thought these were the best noodles she had ever eaten.

"Mom, we'll cook for you from now on." Li Pan finished the last bite of noodles.

“That’s not right. We’ll eat the food too, so we can’t say we’re ‘helping’,” Li An retorted to Li Pan.

Li Pan thought about it and realized she was wrong. "Mom, we'll cook more meals from now on, and you'll feel more at ease."

Ye Yunniang wanted to say that cooking wasn't tiring for her, but she also wanted her child to be sensible and not spoil the fun for her.

"good."

With Lunar New Year's Eve just two days away, Ye Yunniang decided to take the children to Sanxi Farm to burn paper money and pay respects to their grandfather and father.

Arriving at the village in a rented oxcart, we first went to the cemetery to burn paper money.

Cai Damei is already here.

"mother."

"grandmother."

Ye Yunniang and her child gathered around.

"Hey, hey, aren't you cold?" Cai Damei reached out and touched Li Pan's head, who was closest to her. Her eyes caught a mark on Li Pan's neck.

Cai Damei deftly pulled open Li Pan's collar, "What happened to your neck?"

"I'm fine," Li Pan blinked, saying she was alright.

Cai Damei stared into his eyes, "Pan'er, tell Grandma the truth, what happened?"

Li Pan looked left and right, unsure of what to say.

"Grandma, come in from home," Li Ping said.

"Pingping." Ye Yunniang reached out and covered Li Ping's mouth.

"Yunniang, what happened to your hand again?" Cai Damei grabbed Ye Yunniang's wrist and examined her hand carefully.

Because of the secondary injury, Ye Yunniang's hand is still bandaged.

"I'm fine, I just accidentally hurt my hand while chopping vegetables," Ye Yunniang said, making up an excuse so Cai Damei wouldn't worry.

"You can cut both hands while chopping vegetables? Tell me the truth, don't make up excuses." Cai Damei knew Ye Yunniang very well and knew she was lying as soon as she heard her.

"Grandma, a thief broke into the house." Li Pan didn't hide anything. "Mom was trying to save me, and she was injured while catching the thief with a dagger. The injury went all the way down to the bone, you could see the bone." Li Pan started crying as she spoke.

After hearing this, Cai Damei felt guilty, thinking she shouldn't have left home.

"Mother, the thief has been caught. We're all safe now." Ye Yunniang supported Cai Damei, worried that she might not be able to hold on.

"Come with me." Cai Damei regained her composure and led the mother and her three children to her carriage.

A female doctor was standing guard by the car.

Cai Damei had the female doctor examine the mother and her three children, and only breathed a sigh of relief after finding no problems.

Tell the three children to go play aside. Cai Damei pulls Ye Yunniang aside and says, "Tell me in detail what happened after I left home."

Ye Yunniang recounted what had happened at home after Cai Damei left.

"Have Tong Mo's parents gone to look for his mother?" Ye Yunniang was worried that they would make things difficult for Cai Damei.

“They did come,” Cai Damei recalled the events of that day.

After settling Cai Damei in a separate courtyard, Bao Min had only one thought in his mind: he must have a formal title for her.

Most of the affairs of the government office are handled by the deputy.

No matter what Bao Min said, Cai Damei disagreed.

Cai Damei always said, "Born a member of the Li family, will die a member of the Li family."

As for Bao Min's claim of marrying into the family, that's even more impossible.

How could a prefect of a state marry into another family?

Bao Min was really having a headache dealing with Cai Damei's stubbornness.

What troubled him even more was that his older brother and sister-in-law came.

What are you doing here?

"I've come to see you, always causing trouble." Bao Shao's words were harsh.

Jin Huilan reached out and nudged Bao Shao, "Xiao Min, we've come to spend the New Year with you." Jin Huilan used the excuse they had agreed on beforehand.

"No need, you should go back early. I have things to do." Bao Min declined, knowing that it would be troublesome if they found out about Cai Damei.

"What are you busy with? Busy getting married into the family." Bao Shao snorted coldly. When his brother and sister-in-law came, they didn't even offer them a cup of tea and tried to send them away.

"Did Xiao Mo tell you that?"

"Xiao Mo wants us to try to persuade her together," Jin Huilan comforted Tong Mo.

"He wants you to persuade Ye Yunniang to marry him, right?" Bao Min knew his nephew well.

Speaking of Ye Yunniang, Bao Shao became even angrier. "Bao Min, I'm handing Tong Mo over to you. Is this how you're educating your nephew? Flirting with an unfaithful widow, what kind of behavior is this?"

Bao Min was not happy to hear this.

“He learned this from you.” Bao Min finished speaking and bowed to Jin Huilan. “Sister-in-law, I’m not saying this to you.”

Jin Huilan wouldn't be angry with her brother-in-law, but she was dissatisfied with Bao Shao.

What does it mean for a widow to be unfaithful? What does it mean to be flirtatious? Bao Shao forgot that she was once a widow herself.

Kim Hye-ran turned and left.

Bao Shao realized he had said the wrong thing.

He glared at Bao Min and went to chase after his wife.

Ignoring his brother's disdainful look, Bao Min looted all the items that Bao Shao and the others had brought, items suitable for pregnant women, new mothers, and babies, and returned to the manor.

Bao Min didn't hide it from Cai Damei and told her that her brother and sister-in-law had come.

"Madam, my brother and sister-in-law are here. How about we get engaged first?"

Cai Damei focused intently on her needlework, ignoring Bao Min's words. She was tired of hearing him say the same thing every day.
