Li An shook his head in denial, but lowered his head under Ye Yunniang's all-knowing gaze.
“Jiang Mingyue recognized me. She brought,” Li An paused, “the old man, and wants me to go with them.”
"Go? Where to?"
“They said they were going to the mountain town, saying there was no drought there. They said if I went, I wouldn’t be a burden to you anymore.”
"You believe them and want to go with them?"
“No.” Li An looked up. “I didn’t want to go with them. But that day you told Grandma that you had no money. So I thought I’d go with them for a while and come back after the drought is over.”
Ye Yunniang recalled that she had told Cai Damei that she had no money.
That day, Ye Yunniang and Cai Damei discussed closing the Baise Embroidery Shop.
The drought was severe, resulting in a poor summer harvest.
People spend all their money on food. Few people visit the embroidery shop; they sit there day after day, barely earning a penny.
If you don't have money, you might as well close down.
Li An understood: it was the embroidery shop that was short of money, not the family.
"Even if I had to raise ten of you, I could afford it." Ye Yunniang reached out and pulled Li An into her arms, holding her tightly.
"An'an, don't listen to the Jiang family's nonsense. They must have a plan to take you away." Ye Yunniang suspected the Jiang family of the worst possible intentions.
Even with Jiang Mingzhe, Ye Yunniang was wary of him deep down.
Now that things were out in the open, Li An was in a better mood and nodded emphatically. He didn't want to leave his mother.
When did Jiang Mingyue meet you?
"It's at Aunt Chunyao's house," Li An said without hiding anything.
As she said, Ye Yunniang and Liang Maimiao's relationship was completely estranged because of Liang Hemiao.
At first, Liang Maimiao thought she didn't know how.
When Yang Guihua returned to her parents' home, she heard her complaining about how Liang Hemiao was not doing well, and she lamented how wonderful it would have been if Liang Hemiao had married into the Wang family...
Liang Maimiao initially didn't care and was annoyed by what Yang Guihua said. But after hearing it so many times, it left a mark on her mind and she began to have thoughts about it.
When he went to the Xing residence and saw his younger sister, whom he had raised, so thin that she was skin and bones with only her belly protruding, he could no longer suppress these thoughts.
When Liang Maimiao returned home, she heard Xu Dalei and Xu Erlei laughing and talking about going next door to play and eat the pastries that Ye Yunniang had made.
Liang Maimiao could no longer suppress her resentment towards Ye Yunniang.
"Don't go to the Li family!" Liang Maimiao shouted, startling the two Xu brothers.
"Mom, where do you feel unwell?" Xu Dalei thought Liang Maimiao was sick.
"Mom, are you having hysteria?" Xu Erlei thought his mother was going crazy.
"From now on, none of you are allowed to go to the Li family's house. You are not allowed to play with Ye Yunniang's children." Liang Maimiao forced Xu Dalei and Xu Erlei to stop going to the Li family's house.
When Li Pan and his friends went to visit the two, Liang Maimiao blocked the doorway, preventing them from entering.
As time went on, Li Pan and his friends stopped going to the Xu family's house, and their relationship with Xu Dalei and Xu Erlei gradually faded.
The relationship between the Li brothers and the Jin brothers became closer.
Two weeks ago, Li An went to Courtyard No. 2 to play with Jin Dou. He ran into Jiang Mingyue, who was looking for Chun Yao.
Jiang Mingyue felt a sense of familiarity upon first seeing Li An. Upon closer inspection, she realized that Li An's face was a combination of Jiang Mingrui's and Jin Huifang's.
Chunyao calls him Li An, not Jiang Tingjun.
Jiang Mingyue began to doubt whether she was overthinking things, and when no one was around, she called out to Li An, "Jiang Tingjun."
Ang Lee was still young, and when someone called out to him, his little face showed a moment of panic as he was noticed.
Jiang Mingyue went back to find Grandpa Jiang.
Accompanied by Jiang Mingyue and Li Mingshu, Grandpa Jiang met Li An and confirmed that he was his grandson.
Grandpa Jiang was unhappy that Li An had changed his surname and was adopted by outsiders.
Jiang Mingyue said she was willing to adopt Jiang Tingjun and would let him change his surname back to Jiang.
Grandpa Jiang relented and told Jiang Mingyue that the third treasure he had always wanted to know was still in his possession.
Jiang Mingyue's condition was that she could take Li An away.
In search of the treasure, Jiang Mingyue sent people to inquire about the Li family, which alerted Bao Min's subordinates who were guarding the Li family's residence.
Before Jiang Mingyue and Li Mingshu could take any action, they were warned by Bao Min's men.
Jiang Mingyue and Li Mingshu, a family of four, were unwilling to leave Jiangcheng.
Bao Min wasn't going to do this for nothing, so he took the information to Cai Damei to ask for credit.
There's no need to go into details about how Sister Tsai rewarded her.
However, judging from Bao Min's satisfied expression, he had gotten what he wanted.
Early in the morning, a knock on the door woke Ye Yunniang, who had only fallen asleep in the middle of the night.
Ye Yunniang got dressed, took a fan, and fanned herself as she walked.
"Coming, coming, stop knocking!" Ye Yunniang called out, unable to hide her annoyance, and opened the door.
Zhou Lingling was standing at the door.
"Auntie, my grandma is dying."
Zhou Lingling's cries caused Ye Yunniang to drop the fan from her hand.
Hearing the noise, Cai Damei came out from the backyard. "What happened to my little sister? How could she be in such a state?"
“Auntie, that’s my mother. She moved all the house out to my uncle.” Zhou Lingling said, her heart filled with resentment towards Zhang Cai’er.
Without time to ask further questions, Cai Damei told Ye Yunniang to stay home and take care of the children while she went to the Zhou family's house.
Ye Yunniang went into the house, filled some rice and flour, and then went to the side room to fill a bag of silver.
Cai Damei took Zhou Lingling to the Zhou family home.
Ye Yunniang suppressed her worries and went into the kitchen to get busy.
Li Pan and the other two were also woken up by the noise, but no one was there when they came out.
We arrived at the kitchen.
"Mother, I think I hear Sister Lingling's voice."
"Your sister Lingling is here," Ye Yunniang replied, then urged the three children, "Don't ask anymore, go brush your teeth and wash your face. Dinner will be ready soon."
Ye Yunniang wasn't in the mood for anything complicated, so she simply made some pancakes and prepared four bowls of rice noodles.
After the children finished eating, they went out to play for a while while it wasn't too hot.
