Chapter 40 Tiger Head Shoes

Upon closer inspection, Ye Yunniang realized that the face looked familiar.

Those were tiger-head shoes she made by hand for Jiang Tingjun.

The tiger on the left foot has only one eye, and because the stitching was done incorrectly, the color is different after it was sewn.

One is black, and the other is somewhat reddish.

Ye Yunniang looked around but didn't see Tao Hong, nor did she find any familiar maids or servants from Fanghua Courtyard.

My heart skipped a beat; something bad had happened.

Seeing that the other person had walked away, Ye Yunniang disregarded everything else and followed after them.

Ye Yunniang followed behind the lady, away from the riverbank and the crowd, into the alley.

Ye Yunniang walked over and threw a handful of powder at her face.

Ye Yunniang couldn't hold her breath in time and inhaled the powder, causing her to faint.

Before losing consciousness, I heard a man and a woman talking.

"You're so careless. You didn't even realize you were being followed."

"This is a good product, and I'm in a hurry to get it."

"What should we do with this woman? Kill her?"

"Why kill her? This woman has good skin; we can sell her for ten or so taels of silver."

"good."

Ye Yunniang felt herself being carried, and then she knew nothing more.

Ye Yunniang woke up and looked around; she was in a room with the doors and windows closed.

With her hands and feet unbound, Ye Yunniang got up and went to the door, but couldn't open it. She tried the window, but couldn't open it either.

He turned his head to look at the stick on the ground.

"Save your energy." The weak voice startled Ye Yunniang.

Following the sound, they saw a 13- or 14-year-old girl leaning against a corner of the wall. Several children were lying haphazardly around her, one of whom was Jiang Tingjun, whom Ye Yunniang was looking for.

Ye Yunniang quickly stepped forward and picked up Jiang Tingjun.

"Young master, wake up..."

"I've been drugged and can't be woken up. Let me introduce myself, my name is Wen Nuan. What's your name?" the girl said, giving her name.

"My surname is Ye," Ye Yunniang said without adding anything more.

Given the current situation, Wen Nuan's calm demeanor makes Ye Yunniang suspect that she might be in cahoots with human traffickers.

Ye Yunniang did not hide her doubts.

“I’m not a human trafficker, I was sold by my stepmother.” As Wen Nuan said this, a hint of hatred flashed in her eyes.

Upon hearing the word "stepmother," Ye Yunniang thought of herself. If it weren't for Cai Damei providing her with money and supplies, she would probably have been sold off as well.

“I was sold by my stepmother. What about you?” Wen Nuan asked.

"They knocked him unconscious and kidnapped him." Ye Yunniang didn't say more, but just hugged Jiang Tingjun tightly, hoping that the Jiang family would quickly discover that the child was missing and come looking for him.

Wen Nuan noticed that Ye Yunniang hadn't told the whole story, but she didn't ask any further questions.

"Do you have anything to eat?" As she spoke, Wen Nuan's stomach rumbled. Before being sold, she had been hungry for a day. Here, she had been hungry for two more days.

I'm really, really hungry right now.

Ye Yunniang took out two pieces of rice candy she had hidden in her bosom and handed one to Wen Nuan.

She was hungry too, so she ate the rest of the piece.

Wen Nuan took the food, ate it in a few bites, and licked her fingers. She got up and checked on the children lying on the ground one by one. She stuffed some straw under them, as it was too cold to sleep on the ground.

Seeing Wen Nuan's actions, Ye Yunniang also joined in stuffing straw into the children's mouths.

After stuffing myself, all the food I ate was used up.

"Is there any more food?" Wen Nuan asked, clutching her rumbling stomach.

"That's all." Ye Yunniang only brought two pieces of rice candy.

It's warm and I can sit against the wall, saving me some energy.

Ye Yunniang also sat down, occasionally touching her forehead to Jiang Tingjun to check his body temperature.

The locked door was pushed open, and a basket was thrown in.

The basket bounced twice on the ground, and the steamed buns inside fell out and rolled to their feet.

The black and yellowish cornbread looked unappetizing. Wen Nuan picked it up, wiped it clean, and took a big bite.

Then she slapped her throat hard and swallowed. She had never eaten such a terrible cornbread before. But no matter how bad it tasted, she had to eat it; she didn't want to starve to death.

She also wants to go home and take revenge.

Wen Nuan picked up another one and stuffed it into Ye Yunniang's hand.

"Eat up. Who knows when we'll get our next meal?"

Ye Yunniang took the rock-hard cornbread and took a small bite.

Ye Yunniang had been cared for by Cai Damei since childhood, but she suffered verbal abuse from her stepmother. However, she had never eaten such a rough and gritty cornbread before.

Chew it little by little, and swallow it slowly.

Ye Yunniang had eaten quite a bit this morning, so she wasn't very hungry yet. She ate a few bites and then tucked the food into her arms.

Jiang Tingjun woke up at this moment, opened his eyes and saw the familiar people, but did not cry or make a fuss.

"Milk," Jiang Tingjun liked to pronounce each word carefully.

Ye Yunniang glanced at Wen Nuan, then turned to face the wall and began feeding Jiang Tingjun her milk.

He was really hungry, so Jiang Tingjun swallowed hard, some of the food dripping down his chin.

Ye Yunniang wiped it with a handkerchief.

After finishing his milk, Jiang Tingjun got down from Ye Yunniang's arms and curiously looked at the unconscious child in the room.

She reached out and patted a small face, saying, "Play."

The other person was unconscious, so he was ignored.

Jiang Tingjun raised his hand to hit her again, but Ye Yunniang hugged him.

"Good boy, don't hit people." Ye Yunniang's tone was somewhat stern. Jiang Tingjun burst into tears.

Ye Yunniang gently coaxed and persuaded her not to cry.

It's unclear whether the effects of the medicine wore off or if Jiang Tingjun's crying woke up the children on the ground.

"I want my mother."

"Mother, mother..."

"elder brother--"

"Grandpa, Grandpa..."

...

The jarring sound gave Ye Yunniang a headache.

There was some good news: Jiang Tingjun stopped crying and opened his eyes wide to look at his crying older brothers and sisters.

He uttered a single word clearly and loudly: "Ugly."

Then she started giggling.

Wen Nuan, standing nearby, also burst into laughter, "Hahahaha... Madam Ye... Your child is so funny, so funny... Hahaha... I can't take it anymore... My stomach hurts from laughing so much."
