Chapter 50 Not Losing Out

Ye Yunniang was stunned for a moment.

"Brother," Jiang Tingjun called out again.

"Young master, it's getting dark outside. Your brother is asleep too. How about we play again tomorrow?" Ye Yunniang coaxed Jiang Tingjun, coming back to her senses.

“No, play.” Jiang Tingjun’s stubbornness kicked in.

"How about your wet nurse plays with you?"

"No, brother."

"Young master, do you dislike your wet nurse?" Ye Yunniang rubbed her eyes, feigning grievance.

Jiang Tingjun grabbed Ye Yunniang's hand, "Let's play."

Ye Yunniang hugged Jiang Tingjun tightly. "I knew it! Young Master is the best. He's the most considerate of people." As she spoke, Ye Yunniang gave him a kiss on the cheek.

Jiang Tingjun's eyes widened for a moment, then he lunged at Ye Yunniang.

Ye Yunniang fell backward.

Jiang Tingjun got up, looked up, and kissed Ye Yunniang on the cheek.

Two sharp, slapping sounds.

Ye Yunniang was stunned.

Jiang Tingjun chuckled, as if he had won.

This child is truly someone who never suffers a loss.

After coaxing Jiang Tingjun to sleep, Ye Yunniang watched the bed and took a nap.

The next morning, Ye Yunniang woke up, opened her bundle, took out a close-fitting undergarment, and pulled out two hidden thousand-tael silver notes from a secret pocket.

I put the sachet in and hurried to my room.

"Mother, I have obtained amulets for you and Pan'er to ensure your safety. Please wear them."

"You won't be back in town by noon. These are some vegetarian buns I bought for you to eat on the way." Ye Yunniang stuffed a sachet into Cai Damei's hands, and then handed her an oil paper package containing about ten buns. It even included the buns for the neighboring couple.

Cai Damei put it away, saying, "You should go back now."

"Okay." Ye Yunniang said "okay" but didn't move, watching Cai Damei and Pan'er. She saw them out of the temple gate before going back.

We offered incense, listened to the master preach Buddhism, had lunch, took a nap, and enjoyed the scenery on the mountain behind the temple.

After staying there for a few days, I felt completely calm. My mind and body felt happy and healthy.

After settling in for a while, I packed my things and headed home.

When they reached the foot of the mountain, they were stopped by people sent by the Jiang family; something had happened at home.

It was getting late, and Jiang Mingrui and Jin Huifang were worried that Jiang Tingjun wouldn't be able to withstand the bumpy ride, so they asked Dongqing and Ye Yunniang to take the people back to the manor for a temporary stay.

Watching the carriage disappear into the distance, Ye Yunniang felt a bad premonition for some reason.

"Nanny Ye, what's wrong?" Dongqing asked.

"It's nothing, Miss Dongqing, let's go back to the manor." Ye Yunniang said, carrying the sleeping Jiang Tingjun into the carriage.

Back at the manor, the maids and servants who had received the news had already cleaned the rooms.

Unable to sleep, Ye Yunniang got up and tidied up her belongings.

The next morning, after breakfast, we took a horse-drawn carriage back to the city.

Halfway there, with a clatter, the carriage veered off course.

The people inside the car uncontrollably tilted to one side.

"Wow..." Jiang Tingjun burst into tears in fright.

Ignoring her own back pain from the impact, Ye Yunniang picked up Jiang Tingjun to check on him.

Fortunately, Jiang Tingjun was not injured.

"What's going on?" Dongqing asked, lifting the curtain.

"Miss Dongqing, the axle is broken," the driver replied.

There was no village or shop in sight, and the carriage had broken down and couldn't move.

They only had this one horse-drawn carriage; the oxcart behind it was full of boxes and there was no room for people to sit.

Holly sent someone back to the manor to report the news. They waited for the time being.

Jiang Tingjun kept crying, and Ye Yunniang carried him to a grove of trees to rest in the shade.

Several burly old women followed behind him for protection.

After waiting for about an hour and a half, instead of the carriage from the Jiang family, they were greeted by a group of yamen runners.

Once they confirmed they were members of the Jiang family, they were taken directly back to Jiangcheng.

Upon returning to the Jiang residence, Ye Yunniang noticed that there were yamen runners standing guard at both the front and back gates.

Entering the Jiang residence was like entering a bustling market, with constant noise.

When the soldiers were ransacking the Jiang residence, some people shouted that their belongings were theirs and could not be taken away.

What I got was a slap and a kick.

Of the Jiang family's masters, only the eldest son's family and Jiang Mingshu were absent. Everyone else was present.

Zhuang Meixue collapsed to the ground, the bandage on her forehead stained with blood.

It seems the injury is quite serious.

No one else in the Jiang family paid any attention to her.

Jiang Mingzhe stood with Jiang Mingrui, without even glancing at her.

Jiang Mingrui and Jin Huifang saw Jiang Tingjun and tried to step forward, but were stopped by the soldiers.

"Jun'er".

Jin Huifang couldn't help but call out, and Ye Yunniang went over and handed Jiang Tingjun to Jin Huifang to hug.

Jiang Tingjun was not frightened; he curiously examined everything.

"Go stand in the crowd." Ye Yunniang was pushed, lost her balance, and fell to the ground.

Someone supported him from behind.

Without even looking, Ye Yunniang recognized the familiar scent; she knew it was Jiang Mingzhe.

Ye Yunniang didn't say anything, but stood firm and walked to where the servants were standing.

The items confiscated from the Jiang family's home were piled up like a mountain.

Soon, someone came to inspect.

The Jiang family masters conducted strict inspections.

The servants were strictly inspected, and there were also government officials and human traffickers present. Those who signed life contracts were taken away by the human traffickers.

Good citizens like Ye Yunniang who come in to work take their own belongings with them.

Ye Yunniang arrived at Zhiyuxuan, where the place had not yet been searched.

Under the watchful eyes of the officers and soldiers, Ye Yunniang took out her belongings.

"So much jewelry?"

"I saved the young master before, and this is the jewelry the Fourth Madam rewarded me with," Ye Yunniang said, taking out all the jewelry and placing it aside.

"Your husband's surname is Li?" the officer suddenly asked.

“Yes, my husband’s surname is Li. He’s from Lincheng. My husband died in the army, so I came to live with relatives and became a wet nurse.” Ye Yunniang didn’t hide anything.

"Pack it yourself," the officer said as he left.

Ye Yunniang was the only one in the house. Regardless of the reason for the other party's departure.

When she had time, Ye Yunniang would hide silver and valuable jewelry inside her cotton-padded jacket, sewing it up so that no outsiders would find out.

Ye Yunniang came out carrying a large bundle, and from the side gate, Granny Shi's belongings were all taken out.

Granny Shi is bound by a death contract and will be sold.

Back in the front yard, Ye Yunniang and her group of short-term hires were standing together.

Ye Yunniang looked at Jiang Tingjun, who was being held in Jin Huifang's arms.

I feel terrible. I don't know what he will face next.

More than anything, people were puzzled as to why the Jiang family's property was confiscated overnight.

"Alright, you can all go now." Ye Yunniang hugged her large bundle, reluctantly looking at Jiang Tingjun one last time, before turning away and leaving.

As I walked out of the Jiang residence, I saw Cai Damei waiting anxiously, with many others around her.

"Mother." Ye Yunniang quickened her pace.

They tried to pass, but were stopped by the yamen runners.

The constables were about to inspect their belongings again, and a crowd of people watched.

Ye Yunniang's bundle was opened, revealing two summer clothes and a cotton-padded jacket, as well as two pairs of shoes.

The small beaded flower that Ye Yunniang was wearing in her hair was taken away. The bundle was opened, and inside were several pieces of clothing and a cotton-padded coat.

I shook it, but there was no sound, and nothing came out.

The constable waved his hand dismissively, "Let's go."
