Chapter 65 Jin Huifang's Death

Jiang Tingjun cried and reached out to Ye Yunniang for a hug, but Pan'er stopped her from doing so.

Ye Yunniang squatted down and discussed with Pan'er, "Pan'er, I am your mother. That will never change. Look how pitifully your little brother is crying. He's probably hungry. Shall I get him something to eat?"

Pan'er reluctantly agreed, listening to Jiang Tingjun's rumbling stomach.

"I knew it, Pan'er is the best." Ye Yunniang picked up Pan'er first, then picked up Jiang Tingjun.

"Don't cry, sweetie."

Jiang Tingjun stretched his head toward Ye Yunniang's neck, his movements clearly indicating he wanted to nurse.

Ye Yunniang no longer had milk, so she coaxed him into the kitchen and ladled out a bowl of leftover rice porridge from lunch.

"We'll have porridge."

Jiang Tingjun gripped the bowl with his small hands and drank the porridge in big gulps.

After finishing a bowl of porridge, my stomach was full.

Jiang Tingduo wanted to drink more.

Ye Yunniang didn't give him any food, afraid that he would overeat and upset his stomach. She boiled water and washed him clean.

Finally, they put the sleeping Jiang Tingjun on the bed.

During this time, Pan'er stayed by Ye Yunniang's side.

Ye Yunniang reached out and hugged Pan'er.

"Pan'er, what would you like to eat tonight?"

"Meat, meat!" Pan'er said, revealing her favorite food.

"I want to eat meat. How about Mom makes you braised pork? And I'll stir-fry some eggs, which you like?" Ye Yunniang thought about dinner.

Pan'er nodded vigorously and continued ordering, "I want to eat a big chicken leg too."

"Chicken legs won't do. We don't have any chickens at home. I'll go buy a big rooster tomorrow and cook it for you, okay?" Ye Yun's mother discussed with Pan'er.

"Eat two chicken drumsticks." Pan'er held up two fingers.

"Okay, both chicken legs tomorrow are for Pan'er." Ye Yunniang held Pan'er's two little fingers that she was holding up.

"Mother, it's so good." Pan'er rushed into Ye Yunniang's arms. His mother still loved him the most.

"You are my most beloved baby." Ye Yunniang gently patted Pan'er's back, soothing Pan'er's unspeakable unease.

Having received a satisfactory answer, Pan'er wanted to go next door to find Da Lei and Er Lei to play.

Ye Yunniang took a bag of sponge cakes, delivered them to the Xu family, and then went home to the kitchen to get busy.

Meanwhile, Liang Maimiao asked around, but no one knew how the child got there. So she ran to the noodle stall and told Cai Damei about the child.

Cai Damei rushed home upon hearing the news.

Who is that child?

"Yes." Ye Yunniang nodded emphatically, confirming Cai Damei's guess.

“He,” Cai Damei didn’t know how to say it, and after a while she slapped her leg hard, “they, as parents, could just… abandon a child who’s only a year old?”

Cai Damei's words were full of disbelief.

Ye Yunniang didn't believe it before, but now she has no choice but to.

"Mother, I want to go to Sheep Dung Alley." She wanted to see Jin Huifang and find out why she wanted to go there and why she had sent the child there.

"I'll go. You need to take care of the two children at home." Cai Damei got up and walked out.

Ye Yunniang wanted to go with them, but then she heard Jiang Tingjun crying from inside the house.

Ye Yunniang had no choice but to stop and enter the side room.

Jiang Tingjun lay on the bed and cried bitterly.

"You woke up, couldn't find me, and started crying~" Ye Yunniang said with a smile as she stepped forward.

Jiang Tingjun reached out and hugged Ye Yunniang tightly, burying his head in her neck and crying.

Ye Yunniang coaxed and carried him to the kitchen. The steamed egg custard was ready, and a little sesame oil was poured on it.

"Don't cry. Let's eat some fragrant and soft steamed egg custard." Ye Yunniang scooped a spoonful of steamed egg custard and fed it to Jiang Tingjun.

When Jiang Tingjun smelled the food, he stopped crying and ate it quickly and heartily.

After finishing a small bowl of steamed egg custard, Jiang Tingjun held onto the bowl to look inside, only letting go when he saw there was nothing left to eat.

After playing with Jiang Tingjun for a while, I figured it was about time to make dinner.

Ye Yunniang put Jiang Tingjun on a small chair and negotiated with him, "I'm going to cook now, will you be a good boy/girl?"

Jiang Tingjun stared at Ye Yunniang for a long while before nodding.

"Good boy." Ye Yunniang reached out and touched Jiang Tingjun's face before getting up to cook.

Dinner was ready, but Cai Damei still hadn't returned.

Ye Yunniang went next door to call Pan'er back.

Ye Yunniang fed the two children and coaxed them to sleep.

Jiang Tingjun clung to Ye Yunniang, and Pan'er also asked to sleep with Ye Yunniang.

Ye Yunniang coaxed both children to sleep, and was covered in sweat from exhaustion.

Stepping out of the room, Ye Yunniang went to the courtyard gate and looked towards the alley entrance.

Ye Yunniang was extremely worried. She wanted to go to Yangshi Lane to look for them, but she was also worried about the two children inside the house.

My heart is split in two, and I don't know what to do.

A figure appeared at the alley entrance; as it drew closer, it was Tie Xiong.

Upon closer inspection, he was carrying someone on his back—it was Cai Damei!

"Mother!" Ye Yunniang hurried forward.

Tie Xiong avoided Ye Yunniang's outstretched hand to help Cai Damei, carried her into the main room, and placed her on a chair.

Cai Damei sat down. "Tiexiong, thank you for today."

"It's what I should do. Aunt Cai, how are you feeling? I'll go and fetch a doctor." Tie Xiong said, getting up to go and fetch a doctor.

"No need to go, I'm fine. I... I was just startled. I'll be fine after a rest." Cai Damei grabbed Tie Xiong's arm, preventing him from going.

Ye Yunniang brought in tea and handed it to Cai Damei.

Cai Damei took it, gulped it down, and said, "Pour me another cup."

"Okay." Ye Yunniang took the cup and poured another one for Cai Damei.

After drinking two glasses of water, Cai Damei felt much better.

"Yunniang, I'm so glad you didn't go today, it was really scary." Cai Damei patted her chest in lingering fear.

"What's wrong?" Ye Yunniang had a bad feeling.

"Jin Huifang is dead." Tie Xiong said the result that Ye Yunniang least wanted to hear.
