Chapter 7: Showing Face

Ding Fang's matter-of-fact tone displeased Ye Yunniang.

"Is Sister Ding in a hurry to put it on?"

"You're unwilling?" Ding Fang's tone turned cold.

“I am deeply grateful for Madam’s generous reward. I would like to choose a fine piece of fabric to make a dress for the young master. Sister Ding, there’s no rush. Let me finish making one for the young master first, and then I’ll make one for you,” Ye Yunniang explained softly.

"Ye Yunniang, if you don't want to do it, just say so. Trying to fob me off with the young master, I really misjudged you." Ding Fang tossed her handkerchief aside, turned her face, and went back into the house.

Ye Yunniang took two steps forward, wanting to explain.

Ding Fang slammed the door shut, refusing to explain to Ye Yunniang.

Ye Yunniang went back to her house, first washing her hands and tidying up the house, then washing and drying clothes.

After finishing my work, I sat down to sew clothes.

Ye Yunniang made it very slowly for the young master, being very meticulous with every stitch.

Ye Yunniang's embroidery skills were taught by an embroiderer specially hired by Cai Damei.

The top is simple, with auspicious cloud patterns embroidered on the hem and lapel, while the qilin on the trousers required a lot of time and effort.

"Sister Ye, dinner is ready." Pear walked in carrying a food box.

Ye Yunniang then noticed that it was getting late.

Putting down the clothes in her hands, Ye Yunniang shook her head; her neck was a little stiff after sitting all afternoon.

Wash your hands, return to the table, and sit down to look at the dishes for dinner.

Soybean and pig's trotter soup, tofu and vegetable soup, stir-fried celery with shredded pork, and stir-fried wood ear mushrooms with eggs.

"Pear, eat with us." Ye Yunniang invited Pear to stay and eat with them, as she couldn't finish all the food by herself.

Ye Yunniang sincerely invited her, and Li'er did not refuse, so she sat down to eat.

Ye Yunniang had been at the Jiang residence for a month and had developed a habit of drinking a small bowl of soup before each meal.

Although it was low in oil and salt, the chefs at Jiang's restaurant made it very delicious.

After packing up and leaving, Ye Yunniang went for a walk in the courtyard to digest her food. She ran into Shiliu, who was also strolling around.

"Sister Pomegranate," Ye Yunniang greeted.

"You and Li'er are very close?" Shi Liu asked with an ambiguous expression.

“Li’er is very cute. I was bored staying in the yard. It’s thanks to her that I have something to talk to and pass the time,” Ye Yunniang replied with a smile.

"It's not good to trust others too much." After saying that, Shiliu turned around and went back into the house.

Ye Yunniang watched Shiliu leave, puzzled. What did that mean?

If you can't figure it out, remember Cai Damei's teachings: "Don't think about things you can't understand. You might figure it out in a few days. If you can't figure it out, it's because the Bodhisattva is telling you that this is something you shouldn't be trying to figure out."

Ye Yunniang snapped out of her reverie and continued her walk in the courtyard. Feeling she had had enough, she went back inside to wash up and rest.

After a good night's sleep, Ye Yunniang arrived at Fanghua Courtyard.

"Nanny Ye, what brings you here?" Hongcai asked, somewhat surprised to see Ye Yunniang.

"I've come to pick up Sister Chunyao," Ye Yunniang said as she walked into the house.

Hongcai's eyes lit up as she realized what was going on. She reached out and stopped Ye Yunniang, "Today is the fifteenth. Madam is taking the young master to pay his respects to the old lady. Nurse Ding came early this morning to serve the young master."

Ye Yunniang was puzzled as to why Ding Fang had rushed to come.

After more than a month of getting to know Ding Fang, Ye Yunniang knew that Ding Fang was the type to shirk her responsibilities whenever possible.

Suddenly, I remembered Dingxiang and Dingfang talking at the door yesterday, dressed like their mistress, and Shiliu's words during our evening walk.

Dingxiang came to tell Dingfang yesterday that the Fourth Madam wants to pay her respects today and wants her to take the young master to the Zhongleyuan to show him off.

As a maid in the manor, Li'er should know about this.

"Thank you for informing me, Miss Hongcai. I'll head back now." Ye Yunniang didn't ask any further questions and took her leave.

"Not too stupid," Hongcai said, then went back to her room to get to work.

Ye Yunniang returned to Zhiyuxuan, where Shiliu and Chunyao were having breakfast in the courtyard.

"Yunniang, you're back. Come, have some more." Chunyao invited Ye Yunniang to sit down.

Seeing that the two of them didn't seem surprised, Ye Yunniang knew about it too.

Ye Yunniang sat down. "I've already eaten, I'm not hungry."

"The old lady prefers quiet. On the 15th of each month, the ladies of the manor will bring their sons and daughters to pay their respects."

The old lady would reward the servants who took care of her grandchildren.

Every year on the 15th, the maids and servants from each household would rush to accompany their masters to the Zhongle Courtyard to pay their respects.

Ding Fang learned of this from her younger sister and wanted the reward.

She might have hesitated if Chunyao and Shiliu were taking turns, but Ye Yunniang had no background, so she could just take her without hesitation.

"Thank you for your guidance, Sister Chunyao." Ye Yunniang thanked Chunyao for the information, and after thinking for a moment, told the two of them her attitude.

“I’m coming, Mother told me. Do my job as a wet nurse well, and when the little master stops nursing, she will come to take me home.”

"You don't want to stay?" Shiliu looked at Ye Yunniang properly for the first time.

"I can't bear to leave my son and mother." Ye Yunniang didn't want to spend her whole life in the Jiang family.

She didn't want to do anything that would make her look good in front of her master.

Shi Liu looked at Ye Yunniang and said, "From now on, the three of us will go to the old lady's courtyard."

"Thank you for taking care of me, my three sisters. I'll go back to my room to pack up now." Ye Yunniang said as she got up and walked towards her room.

A bucket of water was placed by the door. This was an agreement between Ye Yunniang and Li'er to place a bucket of water in front of the door every day for her convenience.

Ye Yunniang pushed open the door, took out a small garment, a basin, and scented soap to wash the clothes.

Wet the soap, rub it to create bubbles, apply it to the clothes, and rub them in.

Ye Yunniang only learned after entering the Jiang residence that there were not only soap beans and wood ash for washing clothes, but also fragrant soap.

The scented soap was delivered by Coral; it has a camellia fragrance and smells wonderful.

After washing and drying the clothes, Ye Yunniang began embroidering a qilin.

She embroidered each stitch carefully, thinking that her little master would look very handsome in it.

At noon, Pear stood at the door with a food box in her hand. "Sister Ye, I've come to deliver lunch."
